kfhmail - the place for that would be on our Finance, Warranty & Insurance board. Since most leasing issues do not apply to just one vehicle in particular, I'm not sure if the hosts there will think that subject will sustain an entire discussion - but you can sure ask! :)

I am about to close this deal on a lease for a 2004 silver Acura TL with Navi. The lease is for 36months $499 a month, 15k/yr with $3,000 down which includes everything including the 1st months payment. I didn’t get the specific about the residual, money factor, and the break down of the $3,000 down payment. This is my first lease and I am a bit nervous. Does this sound like a good deal considering I am locating in New Jersey? Any comments would be appreciated.

'04 TL 6 spd w\o Nav + wing, tint windows, underbody kit, invisible nose mask, trunk tray
    $34,166 plus ttl
Essentially, I started at $31,400 offered since at the time that was the most consistent best price I saw. Then, I added what I could find as cost for the wing, underbody kit, trunk tray, windows and invisible nose mask.
The windows were said to be $308. A local place was going to charge $239+tx for tint + brow. I got the dealer down to $270 (close enough for having it ready at pickup and saving the trouble of driving around to at tint place and waiting for the car). I figured in $1170 for the underbody kit and $511 for the wing (listed as cost). $508 for the invisible nose mask (warrantied with the car).
Basically, a discount of over $2,400 off list with options. Not bad for a car that will look like the A-Spec, but without the front suspension work or $2300 18" rims\tires. That's starting at about $1800 off of MSRP but with the PP ($33,200 vs $31,400.)
People have been able to get $31,400 (or better) with PP for the car witout nav + TTL. I didn't pay full list for the accessories, which I'm good with.

Yikes! Think about this. The dealer wants to charge you $20,964 to *rent* a $33-35,000 car for 3 years. At the end of the lease the leasing company still owns the car and you own--nothing. Can you say "ripoff"?

My advice? Either negotiate an acceptable purchase price and buy the TL, or do your homework on the Edmunds leasing board (see post #909 by host Pat). Either way, find a new dealer.

I've leased plenty of cars, so it's not that I am against the concept, but the math is very complicated!! Most leases make sense only for the dealer and the bank, not the customer. See my post #772 for more info, then let's leave the topic of leasing alone lest we be accused of going off-topic! ;-)

"Confirmed the deal today - Abyss Blue/Ebony - base auto, $1,200 discount from MSRP plus no admin fee ($190). Pick it up on tuesday! Decided that the extra $4,140 Cdn effective price difference for navi was not worth it especially with no bluetooth service now or in the near future that I was able to confirm with Bell Mobility. Other pricing as an FYI - $1500 off of MSRP on in-stock 6MT's, $1,000 off of in-stock navi, $750 off navi that would have to be ordered or traded with another dealer."

Did you lease or purchase? Was is Sherway Acura?
    Thanks,

I bought a '04 with body side molding, rear wing spoiler, tinted windows, wheel locks, and the moon roof cover for $32,000. Original sticker with accessories was $34,700. Finance rate of 3.7 for 60 months. I bought through the internet manager and was hassle free. I expect that some got better deals but I didn't have to go through any arguing or difficult negotiations to get there. The negotiations were easy. Bought from Vandergriff Acura in Arlington Texas. Color white with parchment interior.

    What's a "moon roof cover"?

I live in Minneapolis MN Metro area and am looking for feedback on pricing for a basic sedan/automatic without navigation, quotes I have received have been around 32k plus or minus 200. Thanks.

It was a purchase, never considered lease. Sherway Acura was indeed the dealer. Quite good to deal with. Loving the vehicle!

I live in the metro Orlando area and am wondering if anyone has experience with an '04 TL purchase in this neck of the woods. How much over invoice / under sticker is being charged? I'm willing to go as far away as Jacksonville, Tampa or West Palm for the best deal. What dealers were best to work with? Looking for an auto, non-nav.

    Any information would be appreciated.

sorry that should read moon roof visor.

Any thoughts on this proposed lease deal for a TL (manual):

    Cap Cost $31,250
    $1,275 cap cost reduction
$730 assorted bank fee, doc fee, registration
(total out of pocket $2,500, including 1st month)
    36 mos @ 12,000 miles
    $412 per month
    .0022 money factor
    60% residual
apparently no other fees (secuirty deposit, acquisition fee, etc).

Seems OK to me (for a lease, I know buying is cheaper in the long run). Any comments?

    Thanks
  • jmaxejmaxe Member Posts: 198
I'm guessing that your $730 fees includes the $550 Honda acquisition fee. Both Acura and Honda include this in their leases from my experience/research.
  • dtate99dtate99 Member Posts: 122
I'm not a lease expert, and you may want to consider going to the dedicated leasing forums in Edmund's for current money factors and advice. But, IMO, you're not doing too well here. You're only getting the car at $125 off of sticker price by paying "cap cost reduction." Try to do better.

Just picked up my 2004 TL/Auto/Navi/Anthracite two days ago. I'm in love again :-) Spent an hour sitting in it in the garage after the kids went to bed, playing with all the gadgets! After significant research, emails to 7 SoCal dealers, and negotiation with two of them, I got $600 off MSRP and paid $150 for the Pro Package (mats, splash, trunk, wheel locks). Some fleet/internet departments would only do $300 off MSRP. The Navi's are almost all pre-contracted and are moving of the lot very quickly so there is not much incentive for the dealers to do better than $600-$700 off MSRP. Basically, Acura significantly underestimated the demand for the Navi's. (BTW, current 36 mo. base lease rate through AHFC is .00225 and residual for 15k mi is 56%)
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
Monkster - Which dealer did you end up going with? I have contacted a few and had the same problem you did with MSRP. Looks like you ended up getting the same car I want. Any additional info you can provide is appreciated.

I am picking up my 2004 TL non-Navi Nighthawk Black Pearl/Quartz (actually my credit union is delivering it to my home) tomorrow evening. Her are the terms of my deal:

    MSRP: 33195
    Selling price: 31200
    Tax: 7.5%
    Residual: 17593 (53%)
    MF: 0.0016
No sec. deposit, no acq. fee, nothing down (it is not rolled into the price)
    $518/mo (tax incl), 15K/yr.
Dealer also threw in side body moldings and offered 10% off the protection package.

My credit union bought it from Acura of Dayton. I can't wait!

    30,800.

    $32050 out the door. 3.64% for 60 months. $585/month. Redondo Red/Parch.

Don't try this in March. ;)
  • 03oddity03oddity Member Posts: 60
Something does not compute. You got a nice discount. I assume you're talking 36 month lease. Residual is not far off. But that monthly payment implies a MUCH higher money factor than you quoted. Payments should be in the mid fours. Better check with Car_man on the leasing board ASAP!
  • hokiedeehokiedee Member Posts: 4
Thats a good deal. What city did you get that deal in? Was it color specific? Thanks for your help.
  • rpm2000rpm2000 Member Posts: 4
Final deal for non-navi TL (6 speed):

    $409.71 per month
    36 months @ 12,000 miles
$1,200 out of pocket (inc. 1st month, etc.).

Thanks to earlier comments, I improved the total cost of the deal by about $1,300 over what I was close to signing. This board was very helpful.
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
That seems to be a great deal. Did you finance through Honda? What were the rest of the lease terms? Using the other numbers from your previous post and just reducing the out-of-pocket would bring the payments closer to $450. Congrats.
  • rpm2000rpm2000 Member Posts: 4
It is through American Honda Finance Corp. I'm not even sure of all the final numbers, but will find out when I pick it up tomorrow. I think the money factor was reduced to .00215 and he mentioned that I was getting the car for either 200 over or 200 under invoce. The residual remained at 60%.
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
Sounds like you made out pretty well, then. Getting the car even $200 over invoice would be a great deal and your numbers are coming out as if it was even less than $200 below invoice. What part of the world are you in?
  • richmondrichmond Member Posts: 3
I just picked up my new 2004 TL - AT, Anthracite and Ebony. Looks and drives great. I purchased it in the Philadelphia suburbs. $30375 including destination, protection package AND tags plus 6% PA tax.

This board was a great help in knowing what prices to look for. Initially the local dealer offered "MSRP and few hundred dollars of free accessories". Telephone calls and Internet requests to other dealers quickly provided several prices below $31,000. Two dealers really wanted to sell me car and they kept lowering the price. Both were very professional and easy to deal with. I would have bought from either one.

rpm2000 and Richmond - You guys are getting great deals. I wish things were that easy here in SoCal. I haven't seriously started any negotiations, but I doubt I will be able to get any TL for that close to (or under) invoice. Congrats and enjoy the new rides.

Black on Black, navi, protection pkg and documentation fees for $33900 + TTL. Does this sound reasonable? I am thinking of buying it tomorrow. But test drove a G35x yesterday and thought that it should get more consideration.... what to do what to do!!! ;o)

    Thanks!

I just took the delivery of a new Silver/Ebony 2004 TL, Auto with Navi, from Acura of Avon in CT today. Following accessories are included - All weather mats, Mud guards, Wheel locks, and Trunk tray. Here is what I paid:

$33,475.00 (including their $195 documentation fee and
above accessories; that is how I negotiated)
    $2008.50 CT sales tax)
$89.00 Tax, Title & Registration fee.

    $35,569.50 – Total paid

Also, dealer arranged 2.9% financing for 60 months thru American Honda Financial Services.

I had placed the order in the first week of February. It was built on 2/19 and took delivery today.

I had great experience with the sales person and dealership. I also had very positive experience with Morande Acura but got the deal I wanted at Acura of Avon.

I think I got a good deal. Thanks to all of you for your valuable input. I wish I had known about these discussion boards when I bought my Odyssey. Thanks again!
  • richmondrichmond Member Posts: 3
The dealers were Sussman Acura, West Chester Acura, Metro Acura (actually in Philly), one in Reading, PA and another in Ardmore, PA though I don't recall the names.

I was surprised that telephone calls and requests for quotes over the Internet got immediate responses below $31,000. Everyone wanted me to come in for a discussion but gave me these prices when I said that it needed to be worth my time. Castle Acura in the Wilmington area quoted list price over the Internet with no suggestion that I could do better there. One of the other dealers said they owned nine Acura dealers. I was concerned that they would be all the ones around here and I thought I was not going to be able to get competitive bids. Not the case though.

The aggressive pricing may expire on Saturday (tomorrow) as it is the end of the month. I do see that Acura is offering 2.9% financing again. Sussman and Metro both offered it and I assume that all dealers can get it.

I believe the protection package is a standard package. It includes trunk tray, wheel locks and splash guards. It was quoted as a $250, $270 and $300 option but most dealer included it in the price they offered.

I did want to get the Nav - I like toys - and I would have paid $2000 for it. I was quoted prices ranging from $33,200 to $34,100 for a TL with Nav so this would have been a net $3000+ option and that was too much for me. None of the dealer seemed interested in discounting the TL's with Nav but did have non Nav's and were aggressive with the pricing.

    Enjoy your TL's

Both Cush Acura (Kearny Mesa) and Ball Acura (National City) were very good to deal with. In the end I went with Cush because their cars came in a few weeks earlier.

Got my 04 Silver/Ebony TL with Navi in bay area today. Paid MSRP, no discount! Salute to all who paid less than MSRP! Feel bad for myself! Also, I plan to keep the car more than 4 yrs so got the extended warranty, too. Yes yes yes… silly… a lot of people told me not to get it but since this car is fully loaded with so many electronic stuff , I got it just for the peace of mind!(honestly speaking, not 100% sure on US manufactured cars yet! Hopefully, this car will change my opinion.) But, the strange thing about the warranty is the dealer offered 7 yrs/80k miles instead of 7 yrs/100K people mentioned in the above post!

I also live in the Northern Va area, and was curious which dealer gave you such a good price on the non-nav TL. I'll be out looking today, and figured I'd look there as well. My '01 325 was totalled recently, and I"m expecting a good settlement check from them next week. I'd orginally been planning to test drive the IS300 and G35, but am pretty much set on the TL (provided the price is right). Kept telling the wife I won't go above $32.5K, so your deal was right about inline with what I wanted to spend. Thanks!!!
  • ssamirssamir Member Posts: 9
I want to confirm what Richmond said earlier. These 30,375 + 6% Tax are in phila suburbs. Metro dealer is giving these prices. The dealer has also assured me 2.9% honda financing.

In all it is nice to see some agressive pricing
  • acuralover1acuralover1 Member Posts: 2
Got the car from Acura of Lynnwood yesterday (deep green/parchment). Worked with Minh, the internet manager. Super friendly, no hassle. Paid MSRP, but had accessories in addition to Protection Package thrown in also. This was the best we could do in the greater Northwest area. This car is way too much in demand, and not enough dealerships around to be competitive.

We also got a TSX at the same time, and got a really good deal.

Both cars got 2.9% financing from Honda of America.

Highly recommend dealing directly on the internet/email with Minh, then go in in person. Walking off the street, they add in a second sticker, which is ridiculous. He immediately threw the second sticker out the window for us.

    From Ardmore Acura this afternoon:
    2004 Acura TL (Automatic Transmission)
Antracite + Ebony + Navi + one oil change =
$33,650 (including Protection Package) + TTL
(they had it on the lot). 2.9% financing.

I started with $33,200 with no protection package (a number I saw here). They came back with $34,400. I said how about $33,500 with Protection Package. They came back with $33,800. I said no thanks and prepared to leave. They said one more check with manager. They came back with $33,650 - I said how about with an oil change. Check with manager. They said fine but no trade-in on my 110K mile 1994 Acura Integra (No biggy, I'll get more via cars.com). Deal.

I was going to wait until the end of March (end of quarter pressure), but the 2.9% financing was attractive today.

    How did I do?

BTW - A lesson I learned in my negotiating class was never agree to "split the difference" unless the other side concedes something. e.g. They offered to split the difference between $33.5 and $33.8. I said, fine but with an oil change (should've gone for rubber mats, oh well). Always try to be creative, getting stuff thrown in...

Thanks to folks who posted their numbers on this board. Definitely helped me feel more comfortable.

Two weeks ago I put a deposit down on a TL and financed for 4%. The car is due this week and was already on the dealers delivery manifest. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get Honda's 2.9% financing that others here are mentioning they received?

This guy bought his Silver/Ebony w/o Navi Automatic Transmission last night in Virginia for:

    $29,755 w/o Navi

It could have been b/c last night was the last night or because he's bought from the dealership before. I'm not sure. However, talking to most dealers, it seems all the dealers in the DC area want to get rid of their non-Navi's really bad because few people are buying them. I was quoted

$33,700 w/ Navi (price includes freight)

If people are paying Invoice or near invoice for the non-navi, and it costs 33,700 for Navi then we're all paying $3,700 more just to get a Navi. That's outrageous. IMHO, the dealers are pushing the customers around.
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
As much as I hate it too, it's not the dealers' fault. It's the laws of supply and demand and Acura's production ratios of NAVI vs. non-NAVI that are to blame.

And it certainly is an aberation to see an invoice price charged for 2004 TL right now. I would expect that most people are paying $1,000 over invoice or more for non-NAVI TLs.
  • legend91legend91 Member Posts: 14
In Atlanta its about $1500 off non-navis and MSRP and a 2-4 week wait for navi. Both throw in protection pkg. This is all web and phone w/several dealers. I would guess even more discount on non-navis as you haggle off the lot.

I was very impressed w/navi on test drive but don't want to pay $3500 for it.

Will the next month or two start shipping enough navis to get under MSRP? Any way to find out the latest production ratios?
  • soljcsoljc Member Posts: 11
I suspect Acura is picking up production of nav units, but I think it'll be a good 4+ months before supply catches up with demand. Until then, you can surely get a good deal on non-navs.
  • car3car3 Member Posts: 27
I don't like this as a Honda fan. They are selling NAV Tl's for like a mark-up price. Thats crazy. I wonder what the percentage is sales wise non-nav TL's vs NAV TL's.
  • sjz1sjz1 Member Posts: 4
Took delivery this weekend of an anthracite/ebony TL, auto, non-navi, from Acura of Orange Park (Jacksonville). $500 over invoice which is $30,300 plus their junk $395 dealer fee, so roughly $31,200 plus TTL. Hated paying the fee, but they would not budge. Judging from the other posts, this looks like a decent deal. Also got the 2.9% Honda financing.

Would definitely recommend this dealership. They had about 30 TL's in stock, all colors, with and without Navi. Dealt with the Internet sales guy. Beat the quotes I was getting from the Orlando dealerships by a wide margin.

    Thanks to all who posted.
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
I suspect that when supply does catch up with demand, the non-Nav and Nav TL's will be priced similarly with respect to their invoices.

For what it's worth, I was offered $1,500 off list for any TL, Nav or not, 6-speed or AT by my Pennsylvania hometown dealer. I suspect that if I negotiated hard, the deal may get better on the in-stock ones. They had more non-nav TL's in stock, but they did have two unsold 6-speeds with Nav available immediately. Unfortunately, after hearing strange engine noises over the weekend, it appears that our SUV may be more in need of replacing than my sedan.

how are you guys getting around 30500 pre tax ? what is a good deal here in So Cal for non-nav?
can you guys who bought it in So Cal, provide some info on priceing ? like what dealer/sales person and what price ? much appreciated...
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
I'm in the same boat as you, looking for a non-navi Tl in So Cal. So far, the best I have been able to come up with (over the phone, without any additional negotiations)is around 1800 off of MSRP. This is with a AAA buying program. It was inferred that some additional negotiating could reduce the price further, but I didn't want to go that far until they had the car I wanted on the lot. It's still well above invoice (I don't know how they are getting such great deals on the East), though. Contact AAA for their car buying programand they will point you to the only dealer in LA/OC that deals with them.
