Great Post NJ Law. How much was the sticker price? Best wishes with the TL.

    I still have 3 payments left for my 2001 Acura TL w/Navi. I want 2004 TL w/Navi, Black/Black.
I have preliminary talks with 2 Acura dealers and both has agreed for $2,600 downpayment due on signing and $409 + tax monthly payments (48 months, 12,000 miles/year). MSRP is $35,195.
Both dealers told me I have to place an order for my car's color in May or June. Just got a call from one dealer, who told me he has a car available and if I take it they will cut me a check for remaining 3 payments and put these money into new car. The payments will be: $3,000 due at signing and $425 + tax/month. Is it worth it to pull a trigger or wait till August when there is a chance interest rates may be higher and residual will be less. Thank you.

Bought mine at Acura of Wayne. Great service and very professional.

I just paired a bluetooth phone to my TL. Works like a charm. In my market, Arizona, AT&T offered 3 phones, TMobile had 1. The manager at a Verizon company store said it's in development but couldn't give a time-frame.

One of the "Genuine Acura Accessories" in the TL brochure is "back up sensors". Does anyone know what this is and how much it costs?

Whoa. What's the $499 for Dealer Inspection Service Fee? Sounds like a profit grab to me.
  • kennyg5kennyg5 Member Posts: 360
The car price is pretty good but the "dealer inspection service fee" clearly looks like an unadulterated rip off.

First time on this board - I'm a brand new TL owner, so I thought I would share my experiences. I also saw one or two postings earlier asking about Columbus dealers, so here is my story.

I needed a car quickly as my wife's Mercedes was sold and I didn't want to wait. I went to Acura of Columbus (Dublin) since they are only 5 miles from home. I was shown a demo with about 3,800 miles on it. It was the exact car I wanted (Pearl White, Auto, non-Nav). I was quoted a crazy deal of $1500 down and $509/mo, 48 mos, 15K/yr. This is NOT a $500/mo car - especially with $1500 down and everyone knows that.

Went back to the same sales rep 3 times - each time I was assured that high-mileage demos command this kind of money and I could get a new one for $570/mo, same $1500 down. Obviously this guy doesn't get it so I made some calls.

I called Lindsay Acura and spoke to the Internet Sales Manager (name withheld per board rules). Super guy - 10 minutes on the phone and we had the deal put together: $800 down, $429/mo, 15K/yr, 48 months. Right where I wanted to be as well as consistent with what I have read elsewhere.

Also, he had my exact car, fresh off the truck with only 2 miles on it!

To check Lindsay's numbers, I called Matthews Acura in Marion, OH. Same exact parameters and they came back $3 per month less. So the Lindsay deal was not a fluke. For the record, Matthews also was a great dealership to deal with. Straight-forward, polite and professional.

Lindsay Acura, and my salesperson especially, were extremely easy to deal with. Courteous, polite, professional and they respected my time. Total time doing the deal was under 30 minutes.

I am still perplexed at how Acura of Columbus thinks they can get that kind of money for a demo with over 3800 miles on in.

The bottom line: when you factor in how much money they expected me to put down against a $570 payment for a new unit, I saved about $155 to $170 PER MONTH on my new car compared to their inflated deal. This isn't real savings - since no one in their right mind would really pay the kind of money they are asking, but the delta on their "best and final offer" was astounding.

Lindsay Acura did a great job - and I love driving my new TL!

You guys can call her dealer prep fee whatever you want but the fact is is that she got one of the best prices on a NAV unit/protect/spoiler package then anybody on this board, even with the dealer prep!

    Good job Shelly.

The true price seems to be around $32,900, which is below invoice, the first I saw for a Nav TL. Mind sharing where/who's the dealer? Wonder what they sell for a non-Nav one, got to be even more below invoice! Did you finance thru the dealer?
  • 1violinist1violinist Member Posts: 338
    Here's the description from Acura:

Back-Up Sensors help alert the driver to obstacles behind the vehicles when backing up. Four color-matched sensors are installed on the rear of the vehicle, and the system beeps with increased frequency as the vehicle nears an object.

    MSRP: $578.00
Price shown includes required attachment kit
    (Installation costs not included)

"...The true price seems to be around $32,900, which is below invoice, the first I saw for a Nav TL"

Actually, the invoice for TL w/Navi is $31,575. Even if you add the destination charge of $545, the total would be $32,120.
  • njlawnjlaw Member Posts: 7
    The sticker price was $35,195.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Stand corrected. So it'd be "which is only $800 above invoice" instead of "which is below invoice." Still the best I've seen. Guess Nav TL is not cranking invoice level yet.

Appreciate all the experiences and great advise offered here, and am looking for some input.
Currently, I am leasing an '01 CL Type S and have enjoyed driving this for the past 42 months. I have been to the local Acura dealership 3x now in conversation to lease a TL,Auto, Non-Nav. The dealer is offering this at $32K not counting AHFC Acquisition fee of $595. Total rent charge for this will be $380 for 48 months/12K miles/year.w/tax, $406/month.
I have countered to $31,500 and they basically laughed me away. This is the only dealership in over 100 mile radius and the location I leased my CL through.
Questions: should I just go for this and am I being reasonable holding out for $500? Next, do dealerships set Lease Rate Factor and make money here as well, or are these 'set' by American Honda?
    thanks guys..great forum

Anyone recently buy a TL w/ Navi in the northwest? Curious as to the deals you were quoted (northwest is a notoriously horrible place to negotiate a good deal on a car). My first quote was very poor - only a touch (<100) below MSRP (includes protection package thrown in which was floor mats, trunk mat, and splash guards)
  • uvacarmanuvacarman Member Posts: 9
Can anybody help me confirm the 0 to 60 time of the new TL. My dealer told me that in manual it goes 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds, and in auto it's 5.6. He said the initial tests said 6.3, but through a recent test it is now 5.4&5.6. If so, I'm definitely impressed.

Thanks for the compliment negotiations took 3 hours walked out the door 3 times because I insisted on the options. The reason I broke the price down because I negotiated an OTD price of $35,000 and could care less about what fees etc they charged. Then I went to finance and got a simple interes 2.75 loan for 30,000 after puting down $5000 for 60 months. By the way SHELLY is not a girl Thanks
  • shellyshelly Member Posts: 22
Please look at MSG 1417 I did not get ripped off on dealer fees. The OTD price is where I started.
  • shellyshelly Member Posts: 22
Please look at my MSG 1417 and you will understand how I negotiate the OTD price of $35,000 I could care less about all the fees as long as they accept my figure for the tl/Nav and all options i wanted
  • shellyshelly Member Posts: 22
Negotions was an OTD price of $35000.00 They did not care if I leased or purchased. After I got my price with all my options it took 3 hours. I decided to purchase and finance through their bank at a rate of 2.75 simple interest 60 months with 5,000 down.

Does anyone have any experience with dealers in the San Diego area ? I'm looking for a 2004 TL 6M without NAV. When you get dealer quotes, how do you get more than one at the same time ? Edmunds doesn't display them all.

Somewhere I read that there is no MPG option, or miles option displayed. Is that true ?

    Thanks !

Just bought a silver/blk 2004 TL/NAVI/5A at Jay Wolfe Acura in Kansas City. Price was 33,300 plus the 199 doc fee and 3.9% for 3yrs. Great dealership, negotiation was not very long. Price included the protection package and destination.

I'm considering leasing a 04 TL Non-Nav this month. One dealer offered the following on a 36 month lease 12,000 mi/yr: $475.00/mo.(includes tax), no down, first month's payment and license fee due at signing. Cap cost was $31,029.00. Does this sound like a good deal? (I'm in southwest Ohio).

Also, anyone know or know where I can find dealer cost and retail cost for the following TL options: body side molding, rear deck lid spoiler, and mud flaps? Thanks.
  • fmillerfmiller Member Posts: 7
Do you know the rate factor and residual for a 36 month/15K mile new TL lease? (Non-Nav)
  • aries1aries1 Member Posts: 11
Go to www.acura.com. Click on TL image, go below to "build a price" and go step by step until you reach "exterior assessories", you can see how they look, description and price.
    Good luck

    Ram03,

Given you are in Ohio, I would strongly recommend you call Lindsay Acura in Columbus and Matthews Acura in Marion. I dealt with both and they were a real pleasure to deal with. See my posting #1407 for more details. Ask for the Internet Sales Manager at Lindsay Acura. Based on my experience I think you may be able to do a little better.

    Good luck! Keith

Bought a Navi Automatic - due end of this month. The trade-in value swung the deal.

Was trying to get to $33,500 (inc. doc fee) based on what I had been reading on this board. Only quote I got below $34,000 I got was $33,800 (with the prot package) plus $150 doc fee. Was close to buying but then the trade-in offer seemed low. So I took my car to a second dealer who is closer to me but was priced $400 higher on the car - he offered $1400 higher trade-in price than the first guy. I called the first dealer to let him know I was moving on because I had a quote $1000 better all-in, and he quickly found the additional $1000 to meet the price. I went with the second dealer who seemed more up front from the get-go. I probably could have gone back and forth for another few hundred dollars, but I was ready to be done!

Thanks to all who posted and for the Edmunds tips/articles/TMV data. All very helpful improving my confidence during the process and acheivng the goal I set out with, which was not to worry about getting the best deal ever, but to get a fair all-in price on the car I wanted in the current market.

I am looking for a 6MT/navi TL in the Kansas city/Springfield/St Louis area....can anyone elaborate on good deals in these MO cities

TL Auto with navigation - $33,000 even (including All season mats, truck tray & wheel locks) + Taxes & Registration.

I live in N. Jersey and worked with Montclair Acura. They talked me out of a NAV. model since they said it would take a month to get one in and they were only will to come down to $34,195. But, they were willing to come down to $31,195 on non-Nav.

I called Motorwold in Wilkes Barre PA and they gave me a quote of $31,000 for Non-Nav and $33,000 for Nav. over the phone. I went there to test drive and they had the exact Nav. I wanted (Anthracite /Ebony) which was the only Nav. on the lot. I was ready to ask for all-season mats, trunk tray & wheel locks, when they offered them up without negotiating. I also needed to pay $50 for a temp. license to get it to Jersey and they threw that in.

Had it for a month and love it, although I'm still waiting for the mats...

Got a good price for a 6MT w/o Nav & MPT in Springfield, Mo. List=$33,900 + Lugs, cargo mat and mudflaps + $195 doc fees. I paid $31688. Probably could have done better, but it was there and didn't feel like playing the game. They had a couple of 6MT's in stock last weekend.
  • fmillerfmiller Member Posts: 7
When people on this board discuss a price, such as: I got a quote/price of $30,500 + taxes, doc fee, title and plates. Out the door. Does that figure include the $595 aquisition fee? Or is that an extra. I currently have an offer of $31,000 + aquisition + taxes + doc fee + title and plate transfer. (Non-Nav)

Should'nt I be able to do a bit better?
  • 1violinist1violinist Member Posts: 338
There's nothing called "Acquisition Fee" -- the only valid charge is "destination charge", which is $545. My guess it's one of those pure-profit items dealers insert hoping their customer is not savvy enough to catch it!
  • bobbyzbobbyz Member Posts: 7
In my search for the best lease price on a 2004 TL 5AT no navi, 48 months, 12,000 miles/year, I was quoted the following by a dealer in Eastern PA: $440/month. Price includes tax, wheel locks, trunk liner, mud guards and mats. Also includes dealer's time to swap out the Bridgestone Turanza tires with ones I'm providing. I pay only first month and MVB fees at signing. How does this compare to other lease offers you've all received? Thanks for your help.
  • mdhaukemdhauke Member Posts: 202
Actually "destination charge" is one of the few legit charges that car dealers have.
  • flipper6flipper6 Member Posts: 30
The question of whether any fee is a "legitimate" fee or not is pretty subjective. When you buy a car you are expected to pay a destination fee. To me it makes no more sense than paying a destination fee if I buy a TV at the local appliance store. The appliance store also had to pay to have the TV delivered to his dealership but he includes that cost in the price of the TV. I think fees that are included with cars have more to do with tradition than with logic. Years ago every dealer had a dealer prep charge which was added to the price. We are still conceptually "paying" a dealer prep, it is just rolled into the price of the car.
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
Acquisition Fee is for leasing. It is the charge the bank or finance company charges to enter into the lease. Usually the dealer doesn't address this fee when negotiating the sale price of the vehicle.

Thinking of taking the plunge on a 5AT Navi before interest rates go up.

Is Acura offering 2.9% in May?

What's the best price you've found on an 04 TL in LA/OC? (Clean deal, including destination, before TTL.) Where??

    Any decent lease offers?

    Thanks to all,

My anthractie/ebony 6-speed Navi & HPT package is being made next week and will be available around May 22. MSRP $35,395. My price $33,300 ($1,000 over invoice).

hals120, I appreciate your e-mailing me the contact at Acura of Westchester. Unfortunately, they couldn't match your deal of about $300 over invoice on a 6-speed Navigation. They claimed that the deal I got was much better than they could do for a Navi car, especially a 6-speed in the exact color combination I wanted, with HPT. Congratulations on an excellent deal for yourself.
