Broke down and bought my Navi TL. Paid $33,500 and got the usual items as wheel locks, mud flaps etc. Went to local dealer and directly to the sales manager who only wanted to deal at sticker claiming my color choice was in-demand. I told him I never buy sticker, not even the Corvette I drove in with. Needless to say, found a great dealer mentioned on this forum. Made a call, took 10 mins and they shipped my car the next morning to my driveway. Went back to the same local dealer just to let him know what the dealio was.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know I just received a quote for a non-nav TL from Sussman Acura in Abington, PA. It is 30,699. I still need to follow up with the dealer, because I am really looking for a TL with NAV. The only stipulation is that I would have to pick one from the lot. It seems there is an oversupply (of both TLs and Acura dealers) in the Philadelphia region. Hope this helps!
  • richmondrichmond Member Posts: 3
Sussman is a good dealer to work with. I don't know what's included in your price but you appear to still be $500 higher than I paid there six weeks ago.

Lucky: I still didn't catch what area of the country you are in; that can make a difference. But Danny is right, try to come down into the low 31k range. That would put you around 1k over dealer invoice if that includes destination charge. If 31.7k is the best you can do, IMO that's not a BAD price, and if you want the car, then do the deal. I paid about $500 more than that in early January to give you a reference point (Atlanta area). But I also got a wind visor, splash guards, and trunk tray included with that price. Furthermore, I'm getting the reformulated tires at no cost, and so far I've put close to 3000 miles on the current ones.

Flipper: I think you misinterpreted my statement regarding the prices of the auto and the 6MT. LuckyDog's post indicated that he might think that the auto somehow cost more, as is the case with many car manufacturers. I just wanted him to be sure that this was not the case with the TL. Certainly, local buying pressure would have an influence on how aggressive an individual dealer may want to be on a certain model car.

dtate99: I see what you where saying now. I didn't get the context. Just as an aside I wonder if the auto and the six speed really cost them the same to manufacture. I think an auto usually runs about $1000 more. Do the Brembo brakes upgrade run about the same? I have the six speed and am so far very pleased with it (some brake squeaking but not too bad). Maybe the fact that its a six speed manual and not a five speed manual adds to the cost too.

I have it on good authority (former Porsche team driver who live down the street), that the the manufacturers cost of transmissions can vary greatly. It used to be true that basic automatics were more expensive than basic manuals. But in most higher end cars, all transmissions have become more sophisticated. And, along with greater horsepower, I believe the clutch sstems in manuals have to be beefed up compared to their automatic counterparts.

I suspect that there may be more engineering research/expense that has gone into Acura's 6-speed manual than their ubiquitous 5-speed automatics. Certainly on a per unit basis. And Acura is marketing the 6-speed TL on the basis of performance, not as a cheaper alternative to an automatic. I suspect that if Acura introduced a sophisticated SMG unit or 6/7-speed automatic aka Mercedes or BMW, there would be a cost premium over a manual. But it doesn't surprise me at all that the 6-speed manual and the rather basic 5-speed auto are essentially the same price. I for one would pay more for the 6-speed, but don't tell Acura.

Bought a new TL, Redondo Red w/Parchment AT w/NAVI at the end of March for $33,600. Dealer is Inskip Acura in Rhode Island (excellent, straightforward buying experience), and deal included mats, wheel locks, etc. I live in the Boston area, and offer some thoughts about my buying experience for New Englanders:

1)Limited availability for AT w/NAVI appears real. I shopped 6 dealers across 4 states and had few choices of cars for immediate delivery. Abyss Blue seems to be the exception to this rule.

2)With demand increasing (others have noted record sales levels for the TL in March),deals seem to be tightening up. I shopped one dealer in CT who sold a TL for $33,475 in February and the best they would do for me was $34,600 for a late April delivery on an Abyss Blue TL.

    3) The end of month sales pressure can be used effectively in neogtiations. Many call-backs from salesmen on the 30th and 31st for cars that "may be freeing up." Yeah, right, but quoted prices started dropping as well.

    4) I lurked on this board for 3 months before buying. Thanks to all who posted -- prevailing prices paid and confirmations about car availability proved very helpful in my landing the car at a decent price.

Hope this information is helpful -- good luck to all (the car is great, by the way, with no rattles or issues as of yet).

When I went to Inskip they did not want to deal at all, but that was over 4 months ago. Even though sales have been high the last couple of months there are cars on lots everywhere, the Nav's are the issue which will clear up in time, maybe for the 05's. Just curious, who did you deal with at Inskip? First name?
  • bosoxin04bosoxin04 Member Posts: 11
    Kevd:

Board rules ask that we not name names, but you can go to Inskip's web site and check the name of the internet sales manager -- a good guy.

I also note that the ability to get a good price is a very fluid exercise, with situations changing based on car availability and the desire of the dealer to close a sale, among other factors. I think buying the car at month's and quarter's end helped me considerably -- I also happened to buy a car that had arrived on the dealer's lot that day, and the dealer seemed happy to move the inventory without having to carry it on their books for a month.

Hope this helps -- good luck

33650 including the mud flaps but excluding the tax title etc that I have paid for Black with quartz interior, auto, navi, last weekend in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is not the best price but a few words of wisdom ( atleast in my opinion).
Get the Navi, spend that little extra money if you can, I bet you wont regret.
The car is hot and in demand so do not expect great discounts on it
My last car was I 35 ( Infiniti '03)and before I bought this TL I tried Infiniti G35 sedan and coupe. Without any exageration once you focus on the ride quality and features that this car offers everything in this price range seems to be a joke. In short I love this car!
Good luck to all current and future owners.

I am looking to buy an 04 TL w/Nav Auto, Abyss Blue, the first quote I received is not good. It didn't even occur to me that it is possible to buy a car from long distance and have it shipped. Reading from this board, I saw that some people did that.

I am wondering how often does this occur? How much do you pay for the shipping? And do you have any trouble with the local dealers servicing the vehicle afterwards?
  • 03oddity03oddity Member Posts: 60
Congrats on what sounds like an awesome deal!!

It's most helpful if you can specify the price before TTL (tax, title and license) so that people in states with different tax rates can use the info in their own negotiations.

What color combo did you get?

I recently was quoted an out the door price for tl with Nav mud guards wheel locks side molding tax tag transfer and all fees for 35,600. I think its good should I wait till the end of month??? Shelly Florida

Sorry about that $33,500 car price (I included 6% sales tax for Fl When I asked for the out the door price which was $35.600_ I dont know what dealer fees or tag tranfer fee is and dont care) Just want bottom line.

If the market is competitive for NAV units in your area then that is a good price.
  • hals120hals120 Member Posts: 20
I tried locating a TL non-nav w/6 speed in the color combination I want in my local area (northern Virginia) to no avail, so I expanded my search. I located several in the NY-NJ area at very competitive prices, so I've put a deposit down on one, and will be picking it up in a couple of weeks, and driving it home.

can I ask what you paid? I am also looking for a TL 6-sp w/o Nav and was referred to Open Road Acura in Wayne, NJ
  • shellyshelly Member Posts: 22
Was 33.500 with dealer fees or did you just have to ad tax and tags?

    Thanks,

I also live in Bay Area (East Bay) and best price I have been quoted is $ 32,000 without nav. I am thinking of buying one tomorrow, and will try to negotiated price $ 1000.00 to $ 1500.00 lower based on the posts on this board, but I am wondering if that is realistic given that in the Bay Area we end up being charged more for everything. A broker did tell me that prices are lower in Southern California which is where he buys his cars.

Thank you for the post -it definitely helped me out.
I was searching for a Silver/Quartz TL w/Navi and wasn't able to find it locally (Performance Acura in Chapel-Hill and Leith Acura in Cary) so went to Flow Acura online, did a quote request and got a good deal.
price: $33,695 w/prot package incl. The docfee was high ($345) but the price of the car was fair and needed to get it quickly.
I would recommend - but pretty far away from Raleigh-Durham area (1&1/2-2hours).

Peformance Acura quoted about the same price, but didn't have color I wanted in stock. Salesperson was extremely knowledable and helpful. He tried his best and went out of the way to try to find the TL. I would recommend buying from this dealership.

Leith Acura is right down the road from me and the first Acura dealership I went to. The salesguy wouldn't deal (Never first meet salesperson face-to-face before letting them know you're shopping on the Internet) and didn't believe that other dealers were below the TMV price. Long story short, salesman wouldn't quote me carsmart Internet price and insulted me in subsequent email exchange so I purchased elsewhere. I would not recommend this dealership.

Hope that helps you future TL buyers in NC.

You should have no problem getting your car serviced at another dealer. We bought a 2003 MDX in August(I live in Wash. DC) from a dealer in Columbus, Ohio. The salesperson drove the car from Ohio to my home in DC for no charge! When its time for service, I take the car to my local dealer. No problem. as far as shipping costs, check with the dealer, as well as with a car shipping company(check the Yellow Pages). I married a woman who lived in San Diego. She had an Accord and we called a shipping company to ship it from San Diego to Wash. DC. This took place in 1998, and it cost around $750. They came to her house to get the car, and delivered it to our door in DC. it took about 10 days. We were satisfied and we had no problems.

I am looking for a good price on a 6-speed, non-navi in the Midwest. Prices and dealership name would be appreciated. There is only one Acura dealership within 100 miles of me so I am willing to travel for a good deal.
    Thank you.

    Thank you.

I bought from Performance Acura and they were great. I ended up getting the only 6-spd with NAV that came in for the whole month of Feb and I was able to do it over the internet from Iraq! The internet sales guy, Jerry is great. I highly recommend him. Funny you mentioned Leith, I tried them down in Fayetteville and they wouldn't budge either. ohh well, their loss.

  • uvacarmanuvacarman Member Posts: 9
Ok, I saw a post that somebody got a base TL for $30,000 and then the lowest I saw with the navi is for around $33,500. So we pretty much have to pay $3500 for the navigation system, right? If so, I just can't see it to be worth it. What do you all think? And is $30,000 really attainable for a NonNavi?
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
$30k, thats interesting! The way I see it, its nearly impossible but thats good news.

Durgak, you have to share the information with others. A very good deal, the best indeed, congratulation!

I've decidied to purchase a TL w/o nav and am both visiting dealers and exploring the net. Question 1: Do the MSRP, Invoice and TMV values quoted by Edmunds include tax? I assume not. Question 2: The numbers often quoted in this town hall...do they include tax or is tax always factored out of the discussion? Thx.
  • bosoxin04bosoxin04 Member Posts: 11
Virtually all pricing posts exclude tax, title and license (or TTL, as they are often abbreviated). Exceptions include people describing "out the door" prices.

    Good luck -- it's a great car!
  • 1violinist1violinist Member Posts: 338
Unless otherwise stated, all MSRP, Invoice, TMV, and Quotes do NOT include "Taxes and license fees" which vary from a state to another. The only time these charges would be included in the price is when it is referred to as "out the door", meaning total cost to the buyer. When you ask for a quote on the Internet have the dealer send you an "itemized" list for all fees and charges so there would be no hidden fees or bogus charges later on! Good luck!

Haven't you guys just basically said the same thing? :)
  • idontknowitallidontknowitall Member Posts: 5
$33,500 was without Tax & tag but I am fortunate to live in a state where taxes are maxxed at $300.00. I am also unfortunate to live in a state of high pollen which makes black somewhat green! Looks sharp when washed though :) I never really seen the Nighthawk black until they pulled it off the truck.. up close it sparkles with blue flakes.. Tag cost is a minimal cost and of not much concern.. Whatever you do, try to avoid the Doc. Fees. I received my car in the driveway some 100 miles away with free delivery but on the paperwork appeared $289.00 in Doc fees. A phone from the driver was all it took when I said you can load it back on the truck if you think I will pay for fees never discussed. Of course it was removed with an apology. Just goes to show that a deal can always be made to seem a deal but read everything before signing and if possible always pay your deposit with a credit card as it is so easy to not be out your deposit if the deal falls through.. But again on my TL purchase, other than Doc. Fee issue, easiest car I ever bought. I had no hassle locating color choice Black/Black. As I said 10 minutes on the phone and the deal was done. I received a call back about an hour later letting me know it would be in my driveway the next morning. Something my local dealer was not able or willing to do for the price. Acura of Augusta, in case you wanted to know.

I've received multiple quotes, through internet and via visit to a local dealer. The local dealer thus far appears to be offering the best value. They've proposed $31,795 for the 2004 TL, no nav, no options, no other charges. The only thing this # doesn't include is tax and tags. Do you feel this is a fair deal...or can I do better? Also wondering what people feel is best bet with the metallic silver...ebony or quartz and why. Thx.
  • 1violinist1violinist Member Posts: 338
It depends on your region, but many people reported buying the non-navi at around $31,000. Color is rather a personal taste, but IMO silver would go better with ebony as it provides a contrast to the light exterior. Good luck!

I've looked at a lot of these online sites, and tried Edmunds, carsdirect, autovantage, etc to get price quotes and figure out the price I should pay for a tl with nav. I need help sorting through it:

Best quote so far from dealer: 33,995 (35 and change delivered)

Edmunds TMV: 34, 314 with dest charge avg price
Kelley blue book 34,383 (range 34320-35366)

Based on another website, I tried to calculate the actual dealer price. Acura has a holdback of 3% of the total (off 35,195 sticker which is 1055.85). Supposedly, you subtract this off the invoice (32128.45-1055=31072.60) then add the destination charge to get a total price for the dealer of 31, 617.60.

    So the questions are:
    1. Is this the correct dealer price?
    2. What is a reasonable profit for the dealer?
    3. How accurate is Edmunds or Kelley Blue book?
    4. Did anyone get the consumer reports info? Is it worth the $12?

    Thanks
  • chris19006chris19006 Member Posts: 4
That sounds like a reasonable calculation, however, my quote was 30,699 at Sussman in Abington, PA for a new non-nav TL and someone else posted that they bought one for 500 less than that. I'm sure they must be getting some kind of profit even at these prices. Who knows?
  • rich48rich48 Member Posts: 21
I just spoke to two friends who both purchased non nav base TLs for $30,000. They both puchased at the end of the month, one at Ramsey NJ Acura and the other at Open Road Acura in Wayne NJ. These seem to be the best prices posted here
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
I am going to buy a TL but my current lease isn't up until 7/30/04. One dealer told me that the lease price is likely to increase monthly because the residual value is decreasing each month. he quoted me a lease based on a 52% residual (48 months) and expected it to go down to 50% in May. Any thoughts?
  • statenstuntstatenstunt Member Posts: 2
I also got my 2004 Acura TL, auto/non-nav for 30k at Open Road Acura in Wayne in mid-February. At first they were hesitant but I had told them about the 30k offer at Park Avenue Acura in Maywood and they matched it, plus threw in the protection package (wheel locks, splash guards, trunk tray) to beat it.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
First.. the salesman has no idea what the residual will be next month. But, you can rightly assume that it definitely will be lower in July or August than it is now. March and April seem to be when all the numbers converge to make good lease deals.

However, it is possible that there will be lower money factors to make up for the lower residuals later. No guarantees, though.

Does anyone know how to find out whether Honda is going to keep shipping 2004's throughout the summer or is there going to be a 2005 TL model? I haven't heard about any model tweaks for 2005 given that this build is so new.
I am deciding whether I can afford to wait until June or July to enter into a new lease.
