I assume I pay taxes based on where I buy it. What is the tax rate in Philly and NJ (Or Virginia)
(I started this thread in Problems and Solutions, but it's more a question for this forum now...).
A new '04 6MT was delivered to my house last week. Very quickly off I realized that this was not a new vehicle - there was nicks and scuffs on the interior trim and there was an unusual wear pattern in the driver's lether seat.
The sales rep (Silverhill Acura in Calgary) pointed out these things to me (that I didn't even notice) that they said will be replaced.
Then within 45 minutes after the sales person left, the clutch started showing problems. Then just became undrivable. Seriously. The next day they are towing the car away and it's been in the shop for a week now.
Originally I thought this might be a manufacturing anomaly, but now I'm not so sure. I just found out that the vehicle was actually a showroom demo that was dealer traded to Silverhill in Alberta.
I negotiated a price based on a NEW vehicle, not a showroom demo. Do I have reason to be upset here? Correct me if I'm wrong but the Market Value of a showroom demo should not be equal to a car fresh 'off the truck'...?
Silverhill has dealt with these problems admirably by giving me a good loaner from their Used Lot and have been great, but I'm reasonably sure we would NOT have had all these problems if it was a new car in the first place.
I've got a call into the GM of Silverhill, I'll post an update after I talk to him.
Corey.
I wanted to pay $30,500 but the dealer wasn't interested...
Does anyone have insight on where the breaking point is on this?
I wonder if another $500 would have sealed the deal.
What's your sense of the premium for sticks in So Cal at the moment? Apparently there are only 15 or so around.

I just talked with the GM of Silverhill Acura and he said unequivocably that that blown clutch could not have been in any way caused by in-showroom abuse. He went on further to say that they have to ship the blown (flywheel) to Honda for warantee reimbursement and they couldn't do that if it was becasue of abuse.
And as far as all the trim nicks and scuffs that WERE likely caused by Joe Buyer and his kiddies climbing all over (my) car, they have proactively replaced all the fixtures and left everything spanking new.
So I'm satisfied that I was worried over nothing - and big kudos to Silverhill management and Service for how they dealt with this.
Corey.
Actually, the invoice is $29,755. The $545 destination charge is not included in the invoice, and usually added on top.

Please check the header of this discussion (or our Rules of the Road linked at the top) for the kind of sales information which may and may not be shared within the Town Hall.
The Town Hall may not be used to pass on salepeople's names, contact info, etc. Asking people to email you with, or for, that information is using the Town Hall to do that, so that's not an okay thing to do, either.
We appreciate your understanding.
The tax rate for new vehicles in VA is 3%.
They gave me temp non-resident plates and had a runner get the MA plates for me while I was in NJ for a few days business.
Even if it was not included, the invoice + destination would be around $30,500. Who would not pay this amount for a TL? I know I would do it without hesitation. Unfortunately, the dealerships in the Houston area are still asking for $32,000 + TTL, at a minimum.
PS. philadelphia only
Been following the thread for awhile and wanted to chime in with a "what do you think?" post.
My local Portland Acura dealer her has the 2004 TL that I want, Silver w/Ebony interior, Auto, etc. The only real difference is that I am adding the A-spec kit which costs roughly $6k inc. installation.
When you subtract out tax, that is a price of $38,221. Subtract out the A-Spec kit and that leaves the price at $32,221.
First question, that seems to be in line, at least within a couple hundred, of what others are getting their non-navi TLs for. Does that seem right to you?
Secondly, insights on the A-Spec? Seems a bit pricey and you could certainly add after market components (tires, wheels, etc) along with the factory molding options for a bit less.
Thoughts on any of this? Oh and btw, for me the choice of vehicles came down to the TL or a BMW 530i. Just seems that, while a different car altogether, the TL is similar enough to me that it is tough to spend the extra $16k for the BMW I want.
Thanks
Jeff
You can figure on getting about $1K of that back on re-sale.

I suggest you make darn sure that before you spend $6k on a set of cosmetic junk and a few limited value suspension upgrades that you want to keep that car for the next 10+ years. I think you'd get absolutely hammered on resale. The luxury minded buyer would want navigation and not A spec, the enthusiast driver would want a six speed (and I, for one, still wouldn't want A spec).
As for the A spec kit itself, one of the major mags just tested one and found the kit to make almost no difference in handling compared to the standard 6-speed. At least with BMW's sport package, you get a true serious handling upgrade that you can feel, excellent sport seats and other useful items, without the tacky cosmetic add ons for about 40% of the cost of A-spec.
Spend your money as you wish, but suggesting you can't justify the incremental cost of a 5-series and then dropping $6k on an A-spec package is a contradiction in my book.
Here are the details on the TL itself:
Car: $31,749
Doc: $100
License: $19.50
Not the best price I've seen, but good enough for me to stay in town.
But this certainly aint the place for this discussion... moving on.

Driving in real world consist of 85% straight line and 15% turning. 1/8 of that 15% might need good handling. TL's handling is not the best but ranked 3rd before G & BMW.
After years in the market, G hasnt reached TL's record of monthly sales.
Reliability, reputation, more hp, exterior/interior, resale value, mpg etc do matter in real world.
$33k for exclusivity is impossible, btw I see a lot of BMW on the street too and BMW is more than $33k.

I have an old phone but don't mind replacing it with a bluetooth enabled phone. Your response sounds right to me but still a little skeptical given what I have been told by Verizon that they don't support bluetooth. Any TL owners out there that have used the bluetooth feature on the TL and can provide insight?

I purchased from Bridgewater Acura in New Jersey. I got the same offer from Montclair (NJ) Acura, which would have thrown in maintenance program, including all oil changes for 3 years/36,000 miles, but I wasn't going to drive there for maintenance anyway so I decided to go with the local dealer instead. My experience with Bridgewater Acura was excellent. I shopped around quite a bit and the salesman was definitely the most straight-forward and (apparently) honest one that I encountered.
Thank you all for your posts. This board has been a valuable resource and your help is very much appreciated.
The lease on my 2001 TL comes due on 6/30/04. I'm looking to lease an '04 TL 5 Speed AT, no navi for 48 months and am starting my search.
Can you please tell me the dealership, your salesperson and whether it was a good experience?
Enjoy your new TL and thanks for your help.
