Does anyone know or heard rumors on any possible changes for the 2005 model ?
  • 1violinist1violinist Member Posts: 338
The only rumor I heard is that the 2005 TL may have AWD as an option.

I just started looking at the 2004 TL w/out Nav. I live in Morris County NJ and looking to lease a TL in July 2004.

Is $400 per mth including tax and other charges and fees reasonable (assume nothing down) or am I way off? Thanks for any insight, experience, etc.

I ordered a TL w/Nav, Abyss Blue&Camel. Dealer claims that if they cannot locate or swap, the car will not be available 'till mid-June. Is this normal lead time in Philly area?
  • hototaihototai Member Posts: 1
    That's a very good deal.

I got $427/mo, $790 OOP for a base TL w/ HPT. This is in Dallas, David McDavid Acura.

I just started my search for a TLw/NAV in the Bay Area. I requested quotes (through Edmunds and dealer's web-sites) and only received one quote. All others (even on the phone) are unwilling to discuss price until I come to the dealership. Exactly what I was trying to avoid. Anyone have better luck in the Bay Area with obtaining quotes?

For tv news, we're seeking people with first-hand experience that Kelley Blue Book's pricing does not reflect real world used vehicle values (trade-ins and/or sales.) Please contact jfallon@edmunds.com by Friday, April 23, 2004 if you'd be willing to be interviewed on camera on this subject.

Well, actually, I had one dealer recently print out the kbb listed price and tell me that was what they would offer me in trade. BTW, that was 800 less than the Edmunds TMV trade-in price....
  • dtate99dtate99 Member Posts: 122
On the other hand, when I recently traded in my '02 TL-S, KBB listed it as around $800 higher than Edmund's. The dealer told me that they generally use KBB as a more accurate value. I didn't complain of course.

A dealer n Montcalir just gave me a quote of 460 a month for 48 months with 2000 due at signing. My response was no thanks. He told me that
"the TL is the number one upscale sedan in the market as per consumer reports and is highly sought after and almost always sold before it arrives at the dealer. The number one car on the market is not cheap and shouldn't be".
Personally I don't care how popular it is, being overcharged certainly won't add to the popularity of the vehicle.

The lowest price quote I received in the northern Midwest: IN, OH, MI was $31,100 from a Cincinatti dealership (Superior Acura). I am working on my local dealership for $31,000. I think that is a fair price: $700 over invoice plus the $980 Holdback = $1,680 dealer profit. The 6-speed's seem to be commanding a slightly higher price than the auto. Anyone get a better price in the Midwest?
    Thank You.
  • mdhaukemdhauke Member Posts: 202
I heard they were hard to get in many mid-western cities. I hear they are still selling them near MSRP in Milwaukee
  • klee3klee3 Member Posts: 57
How did you find out about the $980 Holdback? Didn't see that on kbb or edmunds...
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
    consumer reports has a great online car buying kit;

BTW, a sales rep at Clair Acura in Walpole, MA tells me they are having a slow month and will be willing to go below the $31,900 for non-Nav they have been quoting.

Open Road Acura in Wayne, NJ is willing to go $30,300 for non-Nav
  • burryburry Member Posts: 37
I had to cancel my 6-speed w/navi order today due to circumstances out of my control. I ordered 5 weeks ago and still no word on build date. Hopefully, I will be able to order a 2005.
  • wr_gwr_g Member Posts: 33
    Thanks for your response.

I agree, $460 a month sounds high for a car that lists for around $32K. I spoke to Denville Acura on Monday afternoon and was quoted $427 per mth for 48 mths. I clarified with the internet salesman that it includes all fees and taxes with the exception of $662 for first mths lease fee and mv fees. You may want to give them a try and please let me know how it works out for you if you end up leasing the TL from whatever dealer you decide.

    Dealer Holdback:
I did a search under TIPS & ADVICE for "holdback" and found the following.
    Make Holdback
Acura 3% of the base MSRP
    3% of 32,650 = $979.50
  • sawyerjonsawyerjon Member Posts: 15
    Thanks for the info.
Was that price for non-Nav or with? The proce I mentioned was with the Nav. I'll check with them over the weekend.
  • klee3klee3 Member Posts: 57
Thanks for the response. I've found it. BTW, dealerships in the Houston area are only willing to sell TL (non-navi, auto) for $32,000 but not $31,100 you quoted. I guess I just have to wait until prices drop when the demand subsides. $31k + TTL is my target price as well. Have you found a dealership that is willing to sell it to you at that price?
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
Where you at klee3? in nothern suburb of chicago I bought my TL auto-non-nav in January for $31.000, doc fee $50, tax around 7%. I dont have the details with me.
  • klee3klee3 Member Posts: 57
I live in the Houston area. What color did you get? Also, did you buy it at the end of the month?
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
Silver/ebony, it was on the 5th. I brought my wife with me when I bought the car and told the salesman that my budget was only 31k. He tried to make me pay more, but I told him that I had already told my wife that the car was less than 30k, so noway it's gonna be more than that. Take it or leave it, I said. He gave up after went back and forth to his sales manager. :-)

I think you will get it at that price range. Just keep looking and try not to go over 31k! unless you get the nav one. Dont forget to ask for splash guard, trunk tray and carpet. They might throw them in if you threaten them to walk out from the deal. Good luck
  • dtate99dtate99 Member Posts: 122
Danny...didn't know you had to ask for carpet! LOL
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
I know, I had to ask for steering wheel too, they didnt have it installed then. lol

I meant rubber mats, but then I didnt.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Danny you got wheel locks, splash guards, mats for both trunk and interiors all thrown in for $31K? Was none of these inlcuded to begin with?
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
Nope, I didnt get those, thats why I want people to get them thrown in.

Unlike me, I wasnt aware they could be thrown in as extras. I thought it was all included.
  • pulisubspulisubs Member Posts: 39
It depends on your negotiating skills. With little negotiation and no walk-out threats, I got tint and splash guards thrown in for 31,150 on a 6-Spd non-Navi. In fact, the splash guards were added on the day of delivery.

Depending on your region, what time of the month and how many cars are on the lot that the dealer wants to get rid of, you may get more...

After reading about the 2004 TL problems, I'll probably wait until next year to buy it. Second year model of new design should have less problems. Anyway, thanks for your input.

If anyone in southern cal. is interested in anthracite w/quartz interior, non-nav, auto. Saw one on the lot at Sierra Acura in Alhambra, Cal. on monday. It seems that alot of people are looking for an anthracite exterior. Hope this helps.
  • wr_gwr_g Member Posts: 33
The $427 price was without Nav. but it still sounds high to pay another $400 per yr for Nav.
  • jpiatchekjpiatchek Member Posts: 177
Ah! The old bring the wife along trick. Usually works. Did it one time and she got all excited after a test drive and it back=fired when she decided she had to have the car no matter what. Oh well, sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you!

Has anyone got any pricing info? First trip to the dealer today and they were trying to get full sticker?
  • jets613jets613 Member Posts: 8
Anyone know how much (if at all) they will disocunt the 04s in the summer before the introduction of the 05s? I am trying to figure out whether at this point it makes sense to wait for the 05 model.
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
I was told that since the 2004 models are still considered "new" Acura is still producing 2004's and will just transition to 2005 without much fanfare. I don't think they will be any '04 discounts until late fall, if at all
  • jets613jets613 Member Posts: 8
But do you know if there will be any signifigant enhamcements to the 05 model that would make it pay to wait?
  • achadhaachadha Member Posts: 106
2nd year models tend to not have any major changes added...just fix the first model year bugs
  • jets613jets613 Member Posts: 8
I guess that's really my question. Are there enough bugs in the 04 that it pays to wait for the 05?
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
I have an offer of $385/month for 48 months (12K) for non-Nav MT. I will have to eat $1200 for last three payments of my current lease to close this offer by 4/30/04. However, the dealer is willing to finance the unpaid balance on my old car, raising the lease to $415 per month. However, if I wait until July, I am afraid that the residual will go down from 52% to 50% and interest rates will go up towards 6%, which will make the $385 go up to $415 per month anyway.
    Any thoughts or experience?
  • wr_gwr_g Member Posts: 33
$385 per mth for a TL lease sounds like a good deal to me. I was quoted $427 per mth for 48 mths and 12,000 miles. Does the $385 include a cap cost reduction and sales tax, etc.?
  • mdhaukemdhauke Member Posts: 202
If money is not an object and you have a car that will last a few more months I would wait for the 05.
  • jets613jets613 Member Posts: 8
Do you think they will start selling 05s in mid-October like the new RL?
  • surfgebsurfgeb Member Posts: 24
No cap cost, just the usual 1st mo and acq fee. The price includes 5% sales tax
  • lurchy24lurchy24 Member Posts: 3
Hi - A dealership in California has informed me they have an 04 TL w/navi demo model for sale. It will have approximately 3,000 miles on it and they are offering 10 cents a mile off. Anyone know what the standard is for determining the proper cost for a demo? I don't have any idea of what kind of offer to make on the car, 33k maybe? Perhaps I should wait for the 05 to come out and buy a new 04. Appreciate your thoughts....
  • 95gt95gt Member Posts: 69
No way man. One demo's are always abused. Two with 3k miles on it they should offer you a dollar a mile off on the car. Sounds like they ar trying to rip you off. Wait a bit and get a new 04.
  • lurchy24lurchy24 Member Posts: 3
I've heard that there are some problems with the 04's, anything major?
  • 95gt95gt Member Posts: 69
I would say normal 1st year things. Seat memory had to be taken in and fixed, tire issues (now i think they come with different tires), rattles. Nothing that is dangerous or that can't be fixed in most cases with a quick fix. This is also not across the board issues, i am sure we hear a lot more about it on these boards because people are more apt to complain than praise their car.
  • lurchy24lurchy24 Member Posts: 3
Good deal. I appreciate the info. I've driven the A4, 3 series, g35, 350z and nothing seems to compare $ for $. The dealer keeps telling me that I have to place an order for the TL....if this continues, they may not have many extra 04's when the release the 05's. Any idea when it's supposed to happen?
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
You are allowed to post the dealership name and number, just not the salesperson's. Please do so, if you get the chance.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Anyone knows how they price the color adjusment? It seems that the popular ones (grey, silver) are actually a bit cheaper than the ones less so (like green, white). Is it based on supply more than demand? Wonder if it means much on actual purchasing. Maybe it's more on what dealer happens to have anyway.
  • bridenbriden Member Posts: 18
$33,395 + $99 proc. fee & ttl for a Silver/Ebony Auto Navi. They are also giving $13,700 on my '01 Accord EX V6 Coupe. That's $425 over KBB "excellent" trade value.

Paid the $500 deposit tonight and delivery is expected in 4-6 weeks. So far they've only agreed to throw in the wheel locks but I'll be angling for the trunk tray and winter mats before it's over.

I would definitely recommend Norris Acura West in Ellicott City. They've been a total pleasure to deal with and no one in the area would touch the price.
