I'm seeing $200 to $300 over invoice (incl. shipping) plus title and sales tax for non-Nav's.

Typically Honda and Toyota production remains pretty constant. There may be a shutdown for a couple of weeks in the summer. It is very expensive to vary production levels due the complex nature of the supply chain.

It isn't clear if dealers try to reduce their on-lot inventory, say with better prices, before the new models arrive.

It also isn't clear if the auto companies hold new models in inventory before shipping so that a fair number of them can arrive at the dealer at once.

Thanks for the info! I have a maroon camery and you are right, you have keep those reddish cars clean. I have not seen a red TL on the street yet, lots of that dark grey, I simply don't get that color. The silver is nice too.

    Hello Group

As you can guess, I'm starting my quest for a TL and would appreciate any input from people who have recently bought in the Atlanta area. I'll be purchasing an 05 AT no nav car. Haven't settled on color and trim yet (wife has total control of this area) but that won't change the price. I'm not adverse to traveling some, even to TN or Al if it will save a $1k. My experience with service on a non dealer sold car has been the same as if you bought it there so I see the downside of "importing" a car. So, I'm sure that there a number of local owners on this board with some buying experience they can share, I know that there are a ton of nice TL's around here. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello all..Really enjoy reading all the threads...I just took delivery of my 2005 tl auto with navi silver/ebony with wheel locks here in south florida. I use to be in car retail business years ago and understand it pretty well. I went on line with several dealers all over state and on phone and two dealers in person. The dealer i bought it from is suppose to be worlds largest acura retailer (rick case acura) in fort lauderdale.

They and one other local dealer here had more than one of the exact car I wanted. If fact they were the only two dealers that had two of these cars. Every other dealer only had one or none and would have to trade or the car was on order. Here these cars with navi in that color move very, very fast. The car i bought had not even been pdi'd. (dealer prepped)

I pd 500 over real dealer invoice with no dealer fee or advertising fee. Just normal tax and tag. Was very easy exp and little effort. Sold trade to carmax and got good deal with them also. Cut you a check on the spot. I read in here so many people getting the car at invoice or below.

I wonder how that is really possible without paying in some other way like dealer fee or doc charge or making money on finance rate or trade. I have several friends in business still and these tl's with navi are pretty much in high demand and acura limits production intentionally. If you are open on color and non navi it is diff ofcourse. Good luck all and you will love those car a lot. The nav and blue tooth are awesome.

Just purchased my 2005'Auto TL Navi, with splash guards, wheel locks, and floor mats from Santa Monica Acura for $32,300 including destination, plus tax title & lic. I also purchased the extended warranty packaged offered through Acura for 7 yr/ 100,000 miles with no deductible for only $1165 extra, total out-the-door was $36,297!!!!! Got a internet quote right away from their wonderful General Manager JC, who got the car and paperwork ready when i arrived and left 1 hour later. They also let me put 10k down on my credit card!!! Best purchase experience ever!! Was quoted same package by South Coast Acura in Costa Mesa which was only 10 minutes away from me, but when i got their there was no car on the lot. I would not recommend buying from these people ever!!!!

We are ready to purchase a 2005 TL 5AT w/Nav from a dealer in the Phoenix, AZ area. What's the best price out there in this market? Thanks.

I recently received a dealer quote for a TL (without navigation, automatic) for $32,645 including rear spoiler and Acura protection package. This quote seems high, but I am interested in others experiences.

Also, does anyone know what the dealer "charge" is for the protection package. It seems that they are forcing options to increase profit???

    Thanks!!!

For quoting purposes, seperate the car from the accessories. You'll be able to compare to what others are paying much more easily. Then add on the extras.
  • kradogkradog Member Posts: 10
I am glad to hear you had a good experience in Ft.Lauderdale.Can I assume you paid around 33k before TT+L? I am looking for 6spd w/navigation and have heard Rick Case has plenty to choose from. It sounds like you had a painless experience. How hard was the negotiation? Thanks in advance for your help.

I was told by some SF/Bay are dealers that there are not too many 6MT's available. Is that right? They are willing to bring down the price for AT's but not much for 6MT's.
    Anyone had this problem?
    Thanks,

Just brought my new TL w/ Navi home. Research, patience and this forum were critical. Spent a week trying to get great deal but dealers' responses were luke warm. Today, someone must have flipped a switch. Three dealers called with very aggressive pricing. Got TL w/ Navi. & splash guards for $32,670 from local dealer. Good finance rate too. The dealer came down $485 over night. Another dropped price $270. The total price was $20 over invoice with dealer's cost of splash guards. Best price I got for TL w/ navi and protection package was $32,775. The dealer cost on the protection package is $149 according to one dealer that I spoke to. I still find that hard to swallow.

Inventory on TL is high in O.C. right now. My recommendation is maintain dialogue with multiple dealers, play fair, and be patient. Tiiming is everything.

Can anyone give me suggestions about leasing a 2005 TL????

    Hi,

I am planning to buy an Acura TL with navigation. Now I am relocating to Austin,TX from College Park,MD. My question is where would I get the best deal. Austin has only 2 Acura dealers whereas Washington DC and suburb has a plethora of Acura dealers. Could some of you share your experience and give me an idea of the buying price at both locations. I have no problems in driving down to Austin which is approx. 1550 miles from DC.

Also I am not sure whether to go for a TL or TS?X. I am looking for manual and I felt a substantial torque steer in the TL.

In terms of reliability which is better, TL or TSX?

    Thanks

I am getting ready to lease an 05 Acura TL without navigation. What I don't know is how to get a good deal. What kind of price am I looking at if I want a 3 or 4 year lease? This is in the D.C./Maryland area. I guess I am not sure of pricing and what I need to negotiate when I go in there. Thanks for any suggestions!
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
I suggest you email the dealers in DC, Austin, and Dallas. Just keep the discussions going and finalize with whomever gives the final best price...
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
I have personally never heard that these "protection" packages are needed. It's been my understanding that they are a way for the dealerships to make extra money, but that they are not necessary and that the manufacturer's warranty cover's most usual paint/vinyl problems (other than self-inflicted)...
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
    That is a great deal!!!
  • kuhiokuhio Member Posts: 3
You will get the best deal by finding the dealer that is most motivated normally. Small dealers sometimes are the way to go in smaller markets. I just bought my tl in a hyper competitive market for acura's in south florida. I could of got a little better deal going to smaller market where the dealers dont move as many. Ask the dealer how long they have had the car on their lot and or look at door jam and you can tell when it left the assembly line. If the high volume dealer is moving the navi models fast they are not normally motivated to give it away.

Tsx is really a diff car..My best friend has one and I love the look of it a lot. But close the door several times and you will hear the diff....Good luck

Glad to help. Yes 33,055 to be exact before tax and tag/license. Keep in mind that I also was working a deal for a while with ed morse in pompano and had them down to about 700 over invoice as well. They were the two only local dealers that had the exact color and model I wanted. Rick case was for sure the easiest exp i have ever had in buying a car. But I think that was because I really new the market for this specific car and had done my research. If the car had been pdi'd i would of been in and out in under two hours easily.

Dont know too much about man tranny inventory. But that had over 200 tl's in stock when i was there to get mine late last month. If I can be of any further assistance feel free to email me...Good luck and for sure get a blue tooth phone cause it is incredible...

Before buying, you better drive it at all speeds, as I have an 04 with incurable vibrations at 50-60 mph and 70+. Beware.
  • flipper6flipper6 Member Posts: 30
I can respond only to your question of the torque steer in the TL vs. the TSX although it should probably be in a different forum. I have a 6 speed TL. Although there is some torque steer in the TL, it is very manageable. I had a TSX loaner car and there was no torque steer. As has been discussed many times in these forums, 270 HP is a lot for a front wheel drive car. That being said, I would rather have the extra 70 HP and suffer the minor torque steer. I only notice it under heavy accelleration when I am turning. It has never been an issue on an accelleration ramp. Both are fine cars though, whatever you decide.

Looking for a 05 TL, auto with NAV. I tried radley and pohanka for internet quotes but not much luck yet. Looking to buy before end of april - what should i expect to pay? also - might have a buddy also interested - we might buy together, will that help negotiate a better price?

    thanks in advance
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That sounds like a great deal! Went to Acura of Concord here in the SF Bay Area and they had only about 6 or 7 TL's, and only 2 colors to select from. Additionally, no sales person ever approached us. I saw 1 TL with fancy wheels and Navi for 40,0000, I was stunned by that sticker price. I will check out the Pleasonton dealer next.
  • kradogkradog Member Posts: 10
Thanks again for your help. I can't wait to get my hands on this car! Your price was less than their best quote so I'm not working hard enough. I may have to switch phone service because my current carrier doesn't offer a bluetooth which is very disappointing. As the summer rolls around maybe the prices may fall. Thanks again.

    What a great forum!!

Pretty much decided on the TL 6MT w/ NAV and am not at all sure how to go about getting the best deal - I'm partial to the Blue w/ Camel but they're all nice and won't let that be a critical factor.

I'm fascinated by the concept of emailing a bunch of dealers knowing that, if a dealer in a different state makes the best offer, they can ship it to you? What kind of costs does that incur?

Also, I ran thru the TMV at edmunds.com and a 6MT w/ NAV in my neck of the woods (NNJ), comes in at $34,500. This seems like a few thousand more than I've seen on other postings here... there's wiggle room?

Acura is currently running a Financing special of 2.9% for 48 months... that's pretty good, I suppose, but has anyone been able to procure better terms? Given my budget, I may have to extend financing out to 60 months.

I'm very, very new to this car-buying thing as I drive an old junker to work and we lease my wife's car (I work too far away to consider leasing myself). I cringe at thought of haggling with a dealer as, in year's past, I never felt I walked away with a good deal.

Any and All comments and help would be most appreciated - and, of course, financial contributions would be welcome ;)

    Thanks in advance
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Get quotes on the internet from several dealers first, and that will reduce any haggling. Also, it is a smart investment to subscribe to Consumer Reports, they are an objective group and for an extra fee, they will give exact dealer's cost of the car which is different than invoice. The internet is the dealers worst enemy. Don't forget though, they need to make some money.
  • finzzfinzz Member Posts: 40
Thanks Frisconick... so you feel the Consumer Reports "New Car Price Service" is something to have in my arsenal? I agree that the Dealers need to make money, too, but I'd rather let them make a bundle off the next guy and let me walk away with a good deal.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
If you have Consumer Reports information in hand, you start barganing low, instead of trying to haggle down from a high price. Plus they have to respect your knowledge with a copy of a Consumer Reports print out of their costs for the car. Be careful with financing!

Hope you get a good deal :D
  • psnmpsnm Member Posts: 6
Did you try going through Cars.com or Carsdirect.com? I got pretty good response. I am still not sure how much lower I can go in the local market. I am down a few hundred dollars from what I posted (which was 33,300 for a 6MT with NAVI).

    HI all:

Got the following offer yesterday from a dealer in northern NJ for a leased TL, 5-speed auto., standard car, no additions. Deal was for 27 months, 12k miles, based on total cost of car at $31,200. $1,000 down basically to cover bank fees and DMV fees. $443/month, includes tax.

What do people think? Is this a good deal?

I've read a couple weeks of posts but not too much on leased TLs. Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
  • bargn_hntrbargn_hntr Member Posts: 8
Thanks psnm. Post #3138 on this forum mentions a price of 32.8 for an auto with nav from pohanka. That should be a good price point to work with. I will post any other information I find.

    Passing on info...
I just purchased a TL Auto, no NAV for $31,000. That includes destination charge with no other crazy hidden fees. Excludes tax. (6% in CT) I bought it at Acura of Bedford Hills in NY- they were respectful and reasonable- I walked in with the Consumer Reports invoice price, & knowing that acura is giving a holdback for April of $997.00. They started at 31,600, went to 31,200, & settled on 31,000. I could have pushed it a bit more, but I thought that was reasonable (for their profit margin). I just picked it up last night- AWESOME CAR!!!!
This site is great- good luck to all
    :)

A few posters have made me question the best way to negotiate to buy a car. When I bought my TL, I sent emails to dealerships asking for their best price. I then negotiated them off each other until I reached a price that I felt was good and none of the other dealers would touch.

I've heard others that seem to start negotiations with dropping a bid for a low number and then ?working up? Does this work? I would suspect that the dealers would merely throw out their usual number regardless of whatever you ask, but haven't tried...

Wonder if one system works best?
  • payoffpayoff Member Posts: 12
    2005 Acura TL at/navigation

It appears that the price target of 33k or under is a good price, anything higher would be leaving money on the table, one price posted of $32,670 with splash guards is exceptional, so long as there weren't other factors involved, trade-in or the purchase of an extended warranty, etc...

Aside from the Manual Tranny option, I wonder if the choice of colors has a bearing on how aggressive the dealer will be on the pricing, if Silver is the most popular, the dealer may not be as aggressive? Either way, patience is the key, if you wait long enough, the deal has to come through since the 06 model will get closer to launching.

Just wanted to share what I paid for my car and my car buying experience:

    What: 05 Acura TL Auto w/Nav Green/Camel
    Add-ons: mud flaps, wheel locks
    When: Sunday 4/24/05
Where: Keyes Acura in Van Nuys, CA

    Price Breakdown:
$32500 Car+Add-ons+Destination (they wouldn't separate out the extra add-ons, but for this price it was still worth it.)
    $45 Doc Fee
$2522.24 Tax (7.75%, Orange County residence)
    $28 DMV Electronic Filing Fee
    $264 License Fee
    $9 Reg/Title Fee
    $8.75 CA Tire Fee

    $35,376.99 Total (OTD)

    The experience went as follows:
My cousin and I visited several dealers during the day. I was initially looking for a Blue/Camel color combo. My first stop was at Downey Acura. Their sales manager seemed upfront honest and personable. He offered $33.9k and wouldn't budge. I told him I'd like to look around some more. He didn't try to tackle me at the door but simply stated I would probably get the run-around from other dealerships. I said ok, I'd like to find out for myself.

We then headed to Santa Monica Acura. They only had an Anthricite/Camel color combo on the lot. After comparing notes about my Downey dealership pricing, he went down to $33,250. I told him I was really looking for a Blue/Camel and that I didn't think I would buy. We got up to leave and then he stopped us and "suggested" offering the car at $100 above cost, but he wouldn't say what "cost" was. I shook my head and said no, I'd like to look further. He kept saying, "...so even if I offered the car at only $100 above cost..." no, no, no. He finally let us go.

We then dropped by Acura 101 West. They didn't have any Blue/Camel's w/Nav on the lot, but then my attention turned toward an 04 Green/Camel that was sitting there. It was non-Navi, but it looked so sweet. After seeing that color combo I decided that's what I wanted. There was no pressure from any salesman or even any major attempt to get our business. One dealer just walked around the lot with us, but not seeing what we wanted, we left without much a-do from him.

Our last stop was at Keyes Acura in Van Nuys. There, they had both Blue/Camel and Green/Camel w/Nav. After seeing their inventory and me expressing interest in their Green/Camel we went inside to play the game. A young gentleman who had only worked there 2 months initially gave us a $35,900 price. After relating my stories of other price offers he asked how much I would offer. I said, "how about $32,750?" He left and then came back with another dealer. He introduced himself, sat down with a worksheet with number scribbled on it and said, "we can offer $33,800". I again related my story of the other price offers, and then also that I knew the invoice price was under $32600. After more talk about prices, financing, monthly payments, I stalled and said I wanted to wait until I could put more money down because the monthly payments still seemed a bit high. This was no B.S. I was giving him either. I could afford the car, but it would be sapping a bit of extra spending money I was used to having. It was late, after 8pm, and the dealership had closed. I was actually ready to go and told him that I didn't want to waste his time (or ours) and that I'd prefer to wait a little longer. He said ok, but let him talk to his manager one last time. He came back a couple minutes later with a final offer of $32,500. I clarified that this included destination, the wheel locks and mud flaps that were already on the car. He said "yes!". He also said that they were losing money on the car selling it for that price, below invoice. I asked them to leave me and my cousin alone for a moment to talk it out. My cousin thought it was a great deal and I couldn't argue. My only question was if I wanted to commit to making monthly payments a little higher than I wanted to for the next 4-5 years.

Well, it's obvious what I decided. The drive home was awesome and I love the car! The personnel at Keyes were, all in all, very courteous and friendly. I never cared for the negotiating game which they played well..."we need to make money too", "we'd be giving the car away...","my manager's nuts giving you this price...". But once that was out of the way, everything else fell into place and went smoothly. I didn't buy any extra packages, even though they gently pushed them in their F&I room. A few "no"'s and all was good. The F&I guy did show me on the computer how much they claim to have paid for the car, which was showing $32.8 and some change. It was a pretty good deal, either way.

Thanks to everyone on these forums who have posted their prices and experience. I've been following them religiously for the last 3 months and it has helped me gauge what's reasonable and fair. I hope my experience may help others out there in the market as well.

    All the best!

Thanks for sharing your buying experience. I have already checked out the dealerships in both Scarsdale and Larchmont. My experience in Scarsdale was not the best. I let them know that and because of it, they continuously call me. I have heard nothing but good things about Acura of Bedford Hills. I don't plan on purchasing until the end of May so I am saving them as my ace in the hole. I am hoping that they will come through for me as they did for you. I am looking to get my hands on a 5AT w/Nav. Curious to know who you dealt with. I understand that name dropping is not permitted in this forum however.

    >> am selling my TL'04 for $32,900 that has 7,500 miles on it in Indianapolis,IN.

Why would anyone pay almost $33,000 for a used TL when you can get a new one for the same price (or $1,000 more depending where you live)?

That price seems way too high to me. :confuse:

Lookup DC, MD, DE, s. PA, & s. NJ dealers at www.acura.com. Then search this forum (and the TSX board) for the dealers' names. If anyone's already posted any info, you'll find it quickly & easily.

Since you're willing to drive a bit, I've seen some good deals discussed by some of the Philly/south-Jersey dealers. I've bought two Acura's in Dover, DE w/ good results. It's been several years since the last one, so I don't know if they're still competitively priced. (For what it's worth, I'm still very pleased w/ their service dept.) Then again, if you're REALLY willing to drive a long way, I've seen a lot of good prices from some midwest and new england dealers. Look through this forum - you'll see.

Also, if you drive aggressively enough to be bothered by the torque steer, you may prefer the TSX. It has a better hp/chassis balance. The TL 6-spd seems like a good candidate for RL's SH-AWD.

As far as reliability, check consumer reports and the problems/solutions forums here at edmunds.com. IMO, either one would be a reliable car.

:P the dealer pays 31,502 for a AT Navi. Invoice is 32,555 and MSRP is 35,670. This is from Cosumer Reports. It seems to me that MSRP is too high.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
for an AT non-Navi, the dealer pays 29,742, Invoice is 30,734, and MSRP is 33,670. MSRP is way too high. :P
