As for a good connection with the dealers....for servicing, you don't need to go to the dealer where you purchased your car. All dealers will welcome you with open arms as they wish to make the all mighty buck in servicing. They will welcome you for warranty work as well as all general servicing...so that shouldn't be a determining factor.
As for your surprise about Santa Monica with their price in such an 'expensive' area. My take is there is great competition in the LA area....as there are not only an abundance of LA dealers, but also other brands. Within the Santa Monica area, perhaps the demographics are where Acura plays second fiddle and therefore they must offer improved pricing.
Now...the other thing about the LA market. While you did see the price list provided a few days ago....the sequencing of pricing constantly changes. For instance...when I bought 2 mos ago...the order of pricing was very different. So make sure to continue to get quotes from a diverse set of dealers because an alternate dealer may be able to provide a better deal.
Also...the listing of those with protection packages...I think it is slightly off. I know that the DCH dealerships of Norm Reeves Temecula and believe the Tustin location includes the protection package. Just that they do not overtly indicate unless asked.
And make sure you know that the initial pricing isn't the final price. You can always attempt to get improved pricing.
Santa Monica - $31,599
Weir Canyon - $32,915...they have a $500 price match guarantee..they could not beat my best price. I am going to stop by there tomorrow to see if they actually pay off on their guarantee, or if they come up with some excuse not to honor it.
Glendale - $33, 500
Hoehn Carlsbad - $33, 505
Acura 101 - $32,955
Temecula - $32,755
Tustin - was the last to retun my price request. Never gave me a price quote but said that he could not beat the price that I had.
Keyes - Never did give me a price, but when I gave them my low offer, the beat it as promised. Buying process was quick and straightforward...best car buying experience that I've had.
A lot of the dealers may have gone lower, but when I told my low price they told me that they could not beat it, so they never bothered to counter. All of them did say that Keyes was going to try to pull a fast one on me and change the pricing when I got to the dealership, but they did not and i've got the contract to prove it. They gave me exactly the price that they told me they would and without a lot of fuss. I don't think they were thrilled to let it go for the price I got, but they were true to their word with their price match.
Let me know if you have any more specific questions and I will provide whatever help I can. Good luck!
BTW...many thanks to Delmar1 for all his tips on how to go about purchasing this car. They were helpful for me and I love my new car.
In Dallas people have been consistently getting TL's w/nav in the $32,500-$33,000 range. You may wish to try there if you are dead set on getting the best prices...especially if you have a reason to go to Dallas anyway. Try emailing for quotes in the DFW region and see where it gets you...a lot of people have had good results with Vandergriff... and from my experience on the boards over the last 6 months, Dallas is usually cheaper than Austin or Houston for whatever reasons.
Good luck.
I have seen better deals in NJ or Philly area, any suggestions as to what to do? i heard the '06 will be here soon? Any changes to expect???
Any comments would be helpful.
I was simply stating the fact that my time is worth more than that. I would not waste away 2-3 Saturdays and or hours on the internet over $100. I have a family that likes my attention. In the Houston market, there has not been anyone post that received a better deal from another dealer by $1,000. If you like the car, get a good deal and buy it.
On the service thing, I just thought it would be a good idea to have a contact at the dealership that could get you things like an extra remote if you lost one or a discount on an accessory you wanted.
Wow...if you could get an extra remote and key at a later time...that would be an accomplishment. I don't have the exact price...but you are looking at about $150-200 there (folks...don't lose keys...that is a bad thing).
Any case...I totally understand your thoughts. But at the same time, don't get limited from where you buy because of the possiblities of perks or belief it is mandatory to have your car serviced where it was purchased.
In regards how do you maintain contact with the dealer once you get an quote. What I suggest is that since your first reply back from the dealer is via email (in most cases)...you reply through the same mode (IF the reponse you have is simple and straight forward). They should be fairly quick in responding to your email...most of the time within the day. Once you do knock down the list to a handful...there is where you can devote more time and attention to finalizing your deal and to speak personally with the person to determine if the person is a land-shark or is somewhat sincere.
All questions are good and none stupid. And remember...there is no robotic simple approach. Just do what you feel like doing. You won't get your hands slapped.
If you should have any questions...I am sure there are plenty of folks that will assist.
???What do you all say? Let us help others get a great deal with a great buying experience!
btw...I try to help others here because I learned and saved $ from reading the posts here. I was helped ... so I will help. And I hope that others that were helped will also assist others here on pricing and on other TL boards.
Thanks Dudes

For those people in the Houston area looking to buy you might want to consider Beaumont. I have not made any deals with them but they were very nice and upfront. They do not have as much inventory as the other big dealers in Houston do but I am in no emergency rush to buy a car. i am going to buy when the deal is right.
My gut instincts....sounds a perhaps a little rich considering that brand new spanking TLs are had a tad above $30k.
Lowest price in both were from Santa Monica. One at $31,799 other at $31,599. I realize that it is only a $200 difference...but that is huge when you are pinching below 'invoice'.
Also...'jbdriver' once again demonstrated that geography plays a big big difference in pricing. San Diego stinks...driving a little up north saves a lot. Bet it is true in many other parts of the nation...where you folks just need to search for cars in various markets.
Third observation....don't allow other deter you. That is...many indicated that Keyes was going to bait and switch...nope...Jbdriver got what he wanted at a great price.
'jbdriver'...I now know you are not 'pman2005tl'. Thought you changed your sign-on name.
Rosenthal Acura (Gaithersburg, MD) - 32,573 + 95 proc. (price received in person)
Pohanka Acura (Chantilly, VA) - 32,890 + 249 proc.
Chevy Chase Acura (Bethesda, MD) - 33,099 + 100 proc.-incl. wheel locks/sp. gards)
Frankel Acura (Cockeysville, MD) - 33,465 + 100 proc. - incl. "protection pkg."
Criswell Acura (Annapolis, MD) - 33,600 + ~100 proc. - incl. "protection pkg."
Karen Radley Acura (Woodbr., VA) - 33,500 + 245 proc.
After gathering quotes from the above dealers (with the exception of Rosenthal Acura, which is closest to me and where I did my test drives), I stopped by Rosenthal during their "red tag sale"
In any case, I'll be picking up the car next weekend and am sure I'll be happy with it. Hopefully, this info will be helpful to those shopping in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area.
P.S. - Delmar - thanks for all of the helpful info.
Good luck!
thanks for the great info. my gf is thinking about buying a 2005 TL with navi in the LA area.
either silver/black or grey/black
Just a couple of quick questions:
Is yours with auto trans?
how much lower did keyes beat the santa monica dealer price by? was it > $100?
thanks in advance.
Is yours with auto trans?
how much lower did keyes beat the santa monica dealer price by? was it > $100?
Mine was black/black with an auto trans. The black/black was harder to find...Santa Monica actually didn't have one in stock (although they said that they could get one and if there price was that much better, I easily could have waited. I think you'll have a much easier time finding the silver or grey...those were my 2nd and 3rd choices respectively.
When it came to the price...I actually finagled a little more out of Santa Monica than what I posted, but not much...<$250...Keyes matched), but Keyes included wheel locks and mud guards and they had the black/black in stock. Basically Keyes told me that they would meet or beat any price that I got, and they did.
'jbdriver'...wow...black on black. Black beauty huh?
Yeah, believe it or not, my wife encouraged me to get this color combo. Black cars look great when they're clean. but look like hell when they're dirty....but oh those days when it's clean. :shades:
I live in Frederick, MD and work at Bethesda, MD. I had some families coming from out of town this past weekend and I didn't make it to their "red tag sale" at Rosenthal Acura.
The internet quote I got from Rosenthal Acura (8/20 Saturady) is $33,670 (including $570 destination) for TL w/ Nav. So you are doing really GREAT and now I know what to ask for!! So thanks again!!
I want to retract one of my earlier posts in regards to my positive buying experience with ACURA OF SOUTH FLORIDA.
About a month ago, I bought my TL Blue/ Camel w/ Navigation from ACURA OF SOUTH FLORIDA in Hollywood, Florida for $35,629.00. This price included a nose mask & gap insurance.
When I initially negotiated the car, the sales rep and I agreed on a OTD price of $34,646.00 ( transfer tag). However, when I got to the dealership and in the finance manager's office, I added gap insurance and a full nose mask and ended up getting a new registration as opposed to a transfer of tag. This brought my (SHOULD HAVE ACTUALLY PAID) price up to $35,425.00.
This breaks down as:
34,646- price of the car OTD
495.00- Gap
169- Bra
115- Difference between new tag & transfer
________
35,425.00
However, I did not realize the final number on the finance contract was 35,629.00 which was $204 more than what I should have paid. I went ahead without realizing and signed the paperwork and drove the car home. When I got home, I realized the mistake. As a consequence, I contacted my sales associate and was assured everything would be taken care of and the money would be refunded back to me.
While this was going on, my inherent trust in people to follow through with their word compelled me to give positive feedback to American Honda, Edmunds Forums as well as Acura in regards to my "positive" experience.
After one whole long month of phone calls, messages, etc., I finally concluded this saga. I had a conference call today with my sales rep, General Manager, Sales Manager and Finance Manager. Everyone TRIED to convince me that the figure was accurate and that I was mistaken in believing that when you purchase a car everyone pays Doc stamp/ fees.
I TRIED convincing them all that I received a quote in writing that my OTD price including everything would be $34,646 ( and that included doc stamps/ fees). A reasonable person would assume that included everything???
Further, they maintained that everyone pays doc stamp/fees ON TOP of the quoted amount WHEN YOU FINANCE A CAR. That being said, my sales rep as well as the finance manager knew at least one week prior to me driving 3.5 hours to their dealership that I would be financing. Obviously, I relayed that to them but I guess I was speaking Egyptian because my quoted price, on paper, OTD, APPARENTLY did not include doc stamp/ fees.
I made all of them a suggestion. One of which was that in the future they should advise their customers, whether on paper or verbally, that their quote OTD was not inclusive, and that they would end up paying a "doc stamp/fee."
I additionally posed the question, " Is it is worth it to you to have a unsatisfied customer who may / may not got a great deal on car to walk away from your dealership vowing never to do business again either thorugh purchasing or servicing?" Their answer- they did not care.
Look, putting aside the $200 something dollars, I did get a deal on the car ( at least IMO). I got the TL I wanted in the color combo I wanted and I have absolutely no issues with the car.
Will I contact AMFC and change my opinion?- YES
Will I contact Acura of America and change my opinion?- YES
I will never purchase another car or service my car at that dealership.
Does OTD pricing which includes everything written on paper according to Acura of South Florida actually mean everything?- NO
I guess this is one of those stories that you hear about when dealers add on fees once you get to the dealership ( or after the deal us done in my case) .
Well, I will wind up this long tear-jerker. Thanks for taking the time to read my "Venting." Any thoughts or comments are welcomed.
BTW, they actually had the nerve to thank me for sending them a customer from this forum. Someone actually printed out my post and brought it to them and apparently, the customer brought from them as a result of my post. I am glad that someone did benefit from my posting and I hope they got the deal without the hassle that I faced.
They ( all the managers) actually asked me, " Why did you say good things about us if you are so unhappy?" My response was- "because I believe people are inherently good and follow through with their word. You have done nothing to lose my trust and I tried to help others as well as your dealership out from my own goodwill." No response to that statement....
For those of you considering this dealer for your next purchase- you might or might not get a good deal; watch your 6 when you get a quote for "EVERYTHING OTD."
Regards,
Joe
For those of you who already own a TL, do you think there's any value in getting the body side molding? Does it really help prevent scratches and dings or is it only an opportunity for the dealer to make additional $? Thanks in advance for any opinions.
Can you give us the price before TTL?
Thanks
Car price was 32,600 + 6% sales tax + 165.00 DMV fee + 299 in dealership fee's.
5% interest rate. Hope this helps
What kind of pricing are people seeing in the Houston area and from which dealerships?
Also, awilksta, which dealership offered you 33000 plus TT&L?
I live in Louisiana and the prices here suck.
Thanks.
Wow, great price! Is this the lowest price posted so far?
Again this is for a TL w/o nav. Monday morning I ended up haggling with the guy who had given me a test drive (I didn't get an internet quote from his dealership) and he went from 31,750 down to 31,000. I didn't tell him my other quotes, but did say from my research 30,500 seemed fair and that I had lower offers (30,998 and 30,990). He didn't budge and let me walk. I then went to Carland where I had gotten the lowest quote, telling the dealer there that I only had a minute due to a meeting (which was true). I explained to him as well my seeing 30,500 as fair, and asked if he was willing to do anything to finish a deal before I left. He came back around 30,875 (33,500 OTD), which I took. In retrospect I wish I had asked him to meet me halfway at 30,750 (nothing would have been lost). Anyway, it's over now and I love my TL. :shades:
Considerng a TL with Auto/Nav and from this board, it seems the price to shoot for (before tax, tag, etc) is $31,500-$32,000. Assuming we go in and offer $32,000 for a car on the lot, how much would the dealer be making in this instance? I'm assuming no other dealer "fees" would be added to that $32K number.
Thanks!
Aaron
1- When dealing through phone or internet with dealer, always reach a verbal agreement.
2- Once you get a verbal agreement, have dealer fax/email you ALL the details of the deal including either Nav or non-Nav, color choice, options, car vin#, agreed base price, and OTD cost (which should include tax, title, license, doc fees) and financing.
3- Never ever buy any extra options in finance, as they will work out new numbers.
4- test drive the car and ask questions
5- Any promises are worthless unless specifically written on the contract.
6- There's no such thing as an ethical car salesman, as long as they make a living on 100% commission.
7- ALWAYS read your contract... if it takes to long, who cares! let them wait.
8- If they were honest and treated you well, score them a 10 on the Customer Satisfaction surveys. If they were dishonest, well choose whatever score you feel is more appropriate.
