    Andrew,

I test drove, among others, the TL & G35 sedan. Reading the posts on this site really helped me with pricing. I got my TL Blue/ Camel with Navi for $31,802 + fees for an OTD of $34,646. For the TL with Navi it seems as though anything at or under $32,500 is good. However, this depends on where you live, availability, dealer competition, etc.
A similarly equipped G35 is far more expensive than the TL and I really enjoyed the way the TL drove so paying the extra 5-7k for a RWD car was not worth it to me. The TL is a whole lot of car for the money.
Make sure you go through the internet department when negotiating.
As far as leasing vs. buying, you will have to draw your own conclusions in regards to what you can afford to pay monthly, amount of money to put down, whether or not you drive alot, keeping a car for several years vs. getting a new car every few years, worrying about maintainance issues, not having equity in your car, tax consequences e.g. writing off the car payments as a business expense, etc...
As far as waiting for October, again you will have to draw your own conclusions. There are deals to be made on a TL NOW. With the 06's around the corner, you need to decide which model year you want first. If you wait till October, the selection of 05 TL's will vastly be lower. There might be better deals to be made then on a 05??? Dealers might not budge off of the 06 MSRP that they are doing now on the 05's?
I really didn't explore aggressive negotiating over the G35 after driving the TL. Hope this info helps.

I live in Seattle and am having difficulty getting anything lower than $34,385 for a TL w/navigation. This is before tax, title, license, etc. Is this car so popular that dealers are holding out for someone to pay the sticker price? Also, does anyone know when the 2006 TLs arrive?
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
The pricing you are encountering is not only because the car is popular...but also because of competition within the area you are attempting to get quotes from.

Consider expanding your search outside of your area. Even consider go as far as California. I know that sounds crazy...but the price of a TL w/ nav is significantly less than what you are finding. The savings will not only compensate you for your travel costs...but beyond.

Look through this forum further and you will see recent pricing. Good luck.

I'm looking to purchase a non nav TL with splash guards and a moonroof visor. I was quoted 31,271 (doesn't include tax, tags). Sound like a fair offer?? I've heard for that price the protection package should be included.
  • socalmikelsocalmikel Member Posts: 10
There were NO hidden fees! Despite the warnings from a couple of other dealers that Acura 101 West would NEVER honor the $31,600 price for the Anthracite/Ebony with Navi, they stuck to the deal.

We also paid the Ventura County sales tax, but that shouldn't be a problem anywhere if you can prove residency in a county other than the dealer's.

My wife and I are very happy with the car, and the purchase was so painless, I can't see ever doing it any other way.

I also purchased the Acura Care extended warranty (those electronics have me worried!) on the web for $1,100, substanially less than the dealer price, and MUCH lower than retail.
  • socalmikelsocalmikel Member Posts: 10
I didn't finance with them, just paid cash. I didn't choose any of the dealer-installed options; had the windows tinted yesterday for $150 (they look great), and purchased the Acura Care extended warranty online (all those electronics have me worried) for $1,100 from Curry, a substantial discount below the dealer's price.

so you didnt purchase the wheel locks or splash guards and truck tray which come with the acura protection package. Is there any more info you can give me on the acura 101 west dealer i want to go this weekend and finalize a deal and hopefully get it as low as you did. Is there by any chance I could say that a friend i know (you :) ) got a TL with navi for 31600. any advice will help. oh and btw is the protection package REALLY necessary?
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,214
Congrats, socalmikel. Just a thought as Acuras/Hondas are very well built/reliable, I'd get my $1100 back from the ext. warranty and invest it (in a relatively safe manner, CD, Savings Bonds, MMF, etc.) for the time period of the 4 year Acura warranty. After 4 years your $1100 will have grown and will be available for any (unlikely) major repairs to the TL. If you never need an out of warranty repair of consequence, you've got a tidy sum invested to play with (as opposed to Curry Acura/Honda)!

I owned a Chrysler 300M for 5.5 years, 67,000+ miles that only came with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. All repairs were done in the warranty period, none in the final 2.5 years/31,000 miles. Although I really enjoyed the car, I just didn't want to keep a Chrysler into the 70,000+ mile range although I don't think it would have been a huge risk.

My point? I didn't need ext. warranty coverage on a Chrysler! Odds are much better on not needing one for an Acura ( in other words, keep YOUR money!). But, if it helps you sleep at night, then it's worth it. YMMV.

    Enjoy the TL!

Has anyone found a good deal on a new TL w/NAV in the Cleveland area recently? Currently I am working with Acura of Cleveland and Motorcars Acura.

    Thanks.

I just got a '05 TL Auto w/ Nav silver with quartz leather for $35,200 OTD (out the door) from Sierra Acura in Alhambra. The salesperson was very friendly and helpful and gave the price w/o much hassle. The car was brand spanking new, 4 miles on the odometer and the leather seats were still wrapped in plastic.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
I would buy the true-blue Acura part as it has a unique size (every moon roof is unique). If you are handy...you can do it yourself.

Are you really sure you want a moon roof deflector? Really? If you are concerned about wind roar...there is hardly any as Acura did a great job engineering the roof to minimize.

If interested...you could always buy from the folowing site..which sells factory Acura parts at a discount:

No, I didn't buy any of that stuff. The wife and I think the car looks better without the splash guards; the car was designed with clean lines and doesn't really need 'em. I can get wheel locks myself, and an old towel in the trunk works just fine.

I got the deal by contacting the dealership via their Internet Sales Manager, using one of the on-line referral services available at carbuyingtips.com.

Feel free to mention Mike, the guy who purchased the Antracite/Ebony Navi a week and a half ago.

We like to keep cars for at least seven years. Given the complexity of the navigation system and other onboard electronics, I'm not comfortable rolling the dice that nothing will go wrong for the minimum three years after the warranty runs out.

I've been burned in the past with big ticket items breaking out of warranty, with the labor and parts just KILLING me on the repairs. Consequently, I've purchased extended warranties on big-ticket items for quite a while, Consumer Reports be damned.

If nothing breaks, it was $1,100 out the window. But if only one major repair is needed, it will pay for itself. Friend of mine just has a $3,000+ repair on his car (not an Acura), covered by his extended warranty. As you say, YMMV.

Anyhow, taking your advice in part, we're enjoying the hell out of this car!

Best message I could find on this was message #3561 by Jennifer6 on 6/20/05 where she paid $500 over invoice with 2.9% financing on a non-nav TL at Park Acura in Akron. Let me know how your search progresses...I'm going to start looking for a TL w/nav in the Cleveland area next week and I'll keep you posted on my best offers. I'm looking to be at invoice or slightly over but I'm guessing that I may have to wait until the end of the month to get that price.

I am just starting the process of purchasing a 2005 TL with Nav in the Kansas City area. Has anyone been able to buy for under $33000.00?
  • depcsdepcs Member Posts: 3
I have been watching this message board for a few weeks and would like to say thanks for all of the advice. My buying experience was easy because of it.
I decided on a TL w/o navi in black with the camel interior. I emailed eleven dealers within a two hour drive from where I live in Harrisburg, PA, including the Washington/Baltimore area. Most got back to me within a day with a price which ranged from 31,953 to 30, 900. I then shopped the lowest price around by email and got an offer of 30, 700 from Jones Acura in Lancaster PA (about an hour from me). Other dealers offered to match my best offer. My local dealer, Bobby Rahal in Mechanicsburg had one of the higher initial offers but I went back to the salesperson who had helped us with the test drive and with very little discussion they matched the price. I ended up adding wheel locks, splash guards, floor mats and the trunk liner for an additional $193 bringing my total price to 30,893 before TTL.. I highly recommend contacting the internet sales people of several dealerships and playing them against each other. This has been by far my best car purchase experience. Now I just have to wait for the car to be delivered.

Just started negotiating a deal for a TL w/o navi. Best offer so far among 3 dealers is $31,159 w/ protection package & a doc fee of $350. Seems a little high compared to what others are paying but I haven't pushed too hard yet. I'm curious what others are paying for doc fees. I assume that this is just additional dealer profit.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,214
Not necessarily money out the window. It's kinda like an insurance policy: You're betting something will go wrong, hence you buy the insurance. Acura is betting they won't have to pay for a major incident, hence they're selling the insurance. Also, the money will be invested, just by whom and hence who reaps that benefit depends on your action.

Knock wood, I guess I've been lucky. Never needed an extended warranty on anything (at least that I can remember?). Hmmm, my day may be coming!

Even though you bought the warranty, here's to never needing to use it!

    Enjoy!

    Six,

I live in Tampa, Florida and bought my TL at Acura of South Florida in Hollywood. If this is too far from you, I highly recommend buying from Acura of Orange Park in Jacksonville. Great people, communication, Internet Dept, and PRICE!!!. Both dealerships are about 4 hours drive from me but I chose to buy from Acura of South Florida solely because my parents live down there and I thought of knocking out two birds with one stone- visit the parents; buy the TL at a decent price. Acura of Orange Park is probably much closer to you than the one in South Florida. BTW, I got the Blue/ Camel with Navi for $31,802 + TT & fees. Acura of Orange Park was very close in their pricing as well. Hope this information helps and good luck!

Joe, thanks much for your recommendation. I will get quotes from both for sure. I can vacation in Daytona or Miami, so the location in Florida is not too important to me. I have requested a quote from both Jax and Hollywood. Thanks again.

Anyone had a recent experience buying an 05 TL/Auto/Navi in Colorado?

I'm just starting to look -- trying to get reasonable price expectations.
The prices on this forum people are getting in CA recently are pretty
good (seeing lots at invoice or slightly below).

    Thanks!

Yeah, our Acura dealer didn't arrange the shipping either, but she was the point of contact for when they picked it up. She recommended a couple of shipping companies to us, but we went with Angel's Auto Shipping based on the number of good reviews we saw. I must admit that so far we are impressed. We arranged it last Thursday and told them not to get it any earlier than Saturday. They came on Saturday and our salesperson signed off and got the car on the truck. They should be delivering it tomorrow morning! Less than a week after we called them, we will have our car!
  • risa00risa00 Member Posts: 17
Yeah I had problems myself finding a good price up here. The best I could find was from Acura of Bellevue for $33,700 through the internet salesman. I told them the prices I was quoted from California and they told me to definitely jump on them because they were so great. Actually one Bellevue saleman (not internet) played the dumb route. I told him I got a quote for a Manual TL w/ navigation for $31,800 and he had mentioned he could meet or beat any price. He said "great, come on down." I thought I would clarify first and said "This is for a manual, correct? Also, this does include navigation?" He writes back "You didn't want navigation, did you?"

Anyways, we ended up buying our from Cali and shipping it up here.. Ended up being much cheaper than buying up here. I would recommend checking it out. Shipping is costing us $750 to ship from San Francisco area to Seattle. All we have to pay to the Cali dealer is cost of car + doc fee and that's it. You pay WA taxes and license once you register it up here.

This forum has been very helpful and my buying experience was so much easier because of it.

This is my first post so go easy on me...

My wife and I love the TL. We are looking to move out of an older V6 Passat we have had for awhile. While the brand new '05 TL's seem to be well worth the $30k price tag, we can't swing that right now. Therefore, I was looking to get two questions answered:

    1. Good '04 buying experiences in South Florida...price, good dealers, etc.

    2. Roughly, how much will the '04 prices drop when the '06's are introduced and '05's start showing up on the Pre-Owned lots?

Thanks in advance for your help...this is a great site.
  • delmar1delmar1 Member Posts: 744
Thanks for joining the discussion...hope your posting experience to be valuable.

I don't know the answers to both. But what you can do is go to the kelly bluebook site (believe it is something like www.kbb.com) and plug in the various variables you are speaking of for question #2. For instance...plug in the used car prices of a 2004 and 2005 and see what the price spread is...then apply that knowledge to guess what the price spread may be for your question.

I will be honest...I haven't bought a used car and not familar. But I am going to venture to say not much at the front end of the production year.

If the TL doesn't work out for you...consider the 2006 Acura TSX. That should have significant upgrades in the coming year at about $5-6k less.

After going to our local dealership, researching our credit union's "Shopper" program, and emailing just about all the dealerships in L.A. and Orange Counties (+Calabasas), we bought our TL w/Navi this last weekend at Santa Monica Acura. Everywhere else, it looked like somewhere around 33K was what we would pay for a TL w/Navi.

We paid 32,163 for the TL which included mud guards, trunk tray, wheel locks, body side molding and door edge guards. The base price before extras was 31,555.

It's important to remember that the license and taxes you pay are based on where you register the car, which is your home county. Go up on the DMV web site. They have a calculator you can use to figure this out. Unfortunately, buyers in L.A. pay higher sales tax. You can't necessarily compare with someone elses "Out the Door" price, which includes their tax and license.

We had arranged our own financing through Costco/Capital One beforehand. We had applied over the Internet and they mailed us a "blank check" to use at the dealership.

We paid the $12 to get a car report from Consumer Reports. It was very helpful because we knew the exact current dealer incentives/holdbacks.

We did not trade in our old car because we have read so many times that this confuses a deal. Also, we don't buy extended warranties or things like "protective coatings" because we have also learned these items are not necessary.

When we told the other dealerships what we had arranged with Santa Monica, most told us "Go for It" if we could get it. We were driving up from San Clemente to get the car, and had the obvious concerns that when we got there, they wouldn't honor the deal. We had itemized the deal via email before, so just brought the email with us.

It went EXACTLY as promised. When we got there, the car was washed and ready. We drove it (we had driven them before). We checked it over for scratches, etc. We were asked for a copy of the email. They put together the paperwork exactly as it was in the email. We signed the papers, and we left with our new car.

We can't stand feeling like we are being "worn down" by a salesperson, and we hate wondering if we are being lied to. It was nice leaving the dealership with a car we love and feeling GOOD about the experience. It was worth the drive, even with L.A. and Orange County traffic.

    Hey everyone,
I just got an offer for an '05 TL w/navigation for $32,999 + TTL. This includes the destination fee and the protection package (splash guards, all weather mats, wheel locks, and trunk tray). Also included is the availability of a loaner car if any type of services or repairs are required. What do you think?
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
That's a great suggestion delmar!!! The TSX is a great buy that they could afford with Navi. :) However, if the TL is what they really want, waiting until the 06 comes out, then buy an 04, seems sensible.

The best deal I'm getting in the Houston area is $31.4 w/o Nav and window tint (very important in Texas). I did get an offer of $31.3 about 1.5 hours from here plus protection package but that isn't worth the drive.

Anyone in Houston gone beyond the big city for a better price?

We are looking at getting an 05' TL with Navi (without is a possibility), anybody know what I can expect as far as price here in HI? I have researched the invoice price and I have seen the MSRP here (it seems high, 35+). I am looking at leasing, but want to see if anyone else has bought or leased a TL here. Any advice would be highly appreciated. I have spent a lot of time learning as much as I can about leasing, but I am hoping to learn more from others experiences.
I test drove the TSX, the TL and the RL. They were all fun to drive but we really liked the TL, the RL was nice but the TL actually felt better during the test drive.

Very interested to hear how exactly you went about purchasing from CA? I am going to go test drive a manual TL today here in Bellevue. I currently lease a 2002 VW Passat and was all set to trade it in for the new 06 Passat but it was a huge let down. Are you able to do a lease through an out of state dealership? I'm all for saving a couple grand if possible!
  • risa00risa00 Member Posts: 17
It was quite simple.. We wrote a bunch of internet salespeople down there to get quotes and to find the exact car we were looking for. It's really funny but there was only 1 car on the entire West Coast that was what we wanted and we found it. Once we decided to go with Los Gatos Acura, we called her and talked with her about the price, car, etc. She put the car on hold but didn't require a deposit. She fed-exed us the paperwork for us to sign and look over. We then sent it back with the deposit in the prepaid fedex envelope. We then arranged shipping ourselves and made her the point of picking it up. They came and she signed off that everything looked good. Car arrived 3 days later and we got it yesterday. LOVE IT! Everything was perfect and my husband is so glad that we purchased this car out of state.. plus it was a heck of alot cheaper. She is now mailing us the documents that we need to register the vehicle in Washington. That's it.. It's alot simpler than you would think.

Now I don't know about leasing, since we didn't look into that option. That might be something you can ask them. I would actually ask a few people since several dealers told me I would have to pay CA tax when really I didn't pay any CA tax.. I just have to pay WA tax when we register it.

Vandergriff in Dallas will get you under 31. It was worth the drive and the hassle of getting a local dealer to match. One email to them and they will return a quote.
