Please do us all a favor and measure the distance from the side of your truck to the outside edge of your telescoping mirrors, extended and retracted. If anyone has the non TT mirrors, please measure them for us also. I feel everyone is very interrested in this difference.
Has anyone had a toneau cover on a pickup before.. if so please relay goods and bads of having one. Does the tail gate operate with the cover on? etc.
Also, I like the idea of Super Duty meet. I would definitely attend.
As for your order, it doesn't sound too unique. Don't know why you'd have to wait - maybe an allocation thing??? It would be worth your time (unless you are EXTREMELY patient) to look into a dealer with better allocation. May have to drive a little, but if your are anxious, then the extra drive is worth it! Good luck.
KGRANTC - You didn't say what your order date was, but if you ordered last week and have a DORA then the end of December makes your wait about 2 1/2 months, (10-11 weeks?) It isn't the best or worst wait around, but I don't believe anything on your order will hold it up unless it is an allocation thing. If your dealer doesn't have the allocation for the specifics of your order, then it will hold it up! He could be acting conservatively. Go ask them to check their "weekly allocation report" that each dealership receives from their zone representative. Unless you KNOW what your dealers allocation is, and most of us will never for a fact know, it's always a crap shoot. In my earlier posts, I agonized over re-ordering my truck through another dealer. But SD CC Lariat V-10 with a killer CD player is now on it's way. I'm looking at 13 weeks wait on mine. If I'd ordered it in Lansing, I'd be telling you MY mileage and mirror stories already. ( But waiting hasn't hurt me...it probably helps build character or strengthens resolve or some other crap like how good broccoli or tofu is for you!) Amen, brothers? (You are a good crew!)
http://www.airbag.net
This will give all info about airbags including switches and deactivation. It also has a link to the NHSTA and a page to print with the application for the on/off switch.
Paul.....The crew cabs do not have the switch factory installed......all other trucks do.
My price for the switch with installation was $300.
Drove all highway today and trip computer said 16.5 MPG and manual calculation came to 16.4 MPG.
2000 V10 CC....speeds varying between 55 and 75 MPH. Again I do have the roll top bed cover...so no wind resistance in the truck bed. Just keeping you all updated.
I just got the following info:
Build date: week of Nov 8
Del date: week of Nov 29
I ordered the truck on Oct. 8.
Looks like Xmas will be coming early for me!
Black Y2K 250 SD Lariat CC V8 4x4, Auto, 4:10 ltd slip, priv windows & sliding rear wdo, 265 tires, trlr pkg, hitch, prem CD.
Going to be a LONG 5-6 weeks!
Also similar subject...is it me or are the 350's a tad shorter to the roof line than the 250's? Not ordered yet, but need to fit through 9X7 door.
Oh well, there's no other truck that I would rather wait for (F-Series Super Duty)
I'm intrigued about your roll top.. that'd (suppose that's a word) work fine if I were hauling my snake killers (golfclubbers) but I'm gonna have to haul dirt and rocks sometime for my wife. Do you think the guides, hinges, etc. would handle that sort of abuse? (lots of dust, truck being loaded by loader, etc.)
I've got the cab steps on my Lariat. As was mentioned, they are running boards made out of some kind of hard plastic. As far as functionality, they work great. I'm sure you can get something that looks better aftermarket, but I don't find the stock cab steps to be eye sores. I would be hesitant to get the tubular cab steps because I live in snow country and would be concerned about slipping on them. Any cab step can be slick, but the running board type give you a bigger area to step on. I've almost slipped on my a couple of times.....like the time I put Armour-all on them.
I've got power TT mirrors on my truck, but they are not telescoping (99 truck). It's my understanding that the Power Mirror option on the 2000 models is related to the ability to adjust the mirrors and has nothing to do with the telescoping function. The telescoping function is a separate option and the telescoping function has to be done manually. You can have power mirrors with the telescoping option, but when you want to telescope the mirrors in or out, you have to do it by hand. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
No camper manufacturer would tell you that you can or should exceed the GVWR of your vehicle. They would almost certainly face lawsuits if they did. A salesman, on the other hand, is likely to say something like, "yeah, we put those things on 3/4 tons all the time". Most camper salesmen won't try to sell you a camper that is way too big for your truck, but they're not going to have any problem moving you in the direction of a camper that may put you 1,000 pounds or less over your GVWR. When I'm loaded for a trip, I'm about 600-800 over my GVWR. However, the combined weight of my truck and camper is less than the GVWR. It's the passengers, gear, water and propane that put me over.
I'd like to know if anybody has any information on supercharging the V10. Has anyone actually done it? What are the pros and cons of supercharging? Does it void Ford warranty? What does it do to gas mileage? Is there a noticeable improvement in performance or is it just hype?
Thanks for any info.
The mirror can always be pulled in flush with the truck to get it in the garage if the telescoping doesn't bring them in enough.
I pity you starting about this time of the year. I live in Anchorage and don't garage my truck. I can understand how it might be a deal killer for you up there. For those who aren't familiar with Alaska, Anchorage winters are similar to many cities in the Rockies. Fairbanks winters are closer to Antarctica. Well, not exactly, but you get the point.
No snow on the ground yet, but we're starting to see lots of snowmobile trailers on the back of pickup trucks as people are starting to get them tuned up for the season. Last month, it was ATV trailers as people were headed out to get their moose and caribou. May to June, it was halibut and salmon boats. You can tell what season it is up here by seeing what kind of trailer is being towed.
I think the name of the law is Magnuson-Moss or something like that.
Thank you all for the VOPC information. FYI, they pull trucks every Wednesday for build/delivery dates.
Also, does anyone know of a better alternative to the bedliner. I heard of some kind of spray through the grapevine. Any advice/experience?
Brutus: Greetings. I've been following your Anchor-town exploits on these posts for a while now and greatly appreciate all the great info passed on by you all.
We got a foot of snow so far and it was 3 below this AM. Yee Haw!
I plan to order a '00 SD SC psd 350 around Christmas for a early March delivery. Thanks to sites like this one, I already know what I'm after...if my biggest hang up is the mirrors I think I'm in good shape. Converted from being a Chevy fan.
I went with Line-X because the finish looked smoother. In my opinion, it looks better than the factory paint. I've got a black truck, so I would have lots of visible scratches by now. The Line-X has worked great. I carry a slide-in camper. I have to use a three inch plywood platform in my bed for the camper to safely clear the higher cab of the Superduty, so the camper doesn't actually sit on the bed. However, I'm constantly sliding the platform in and out of the bed and I've got absolutely no scratches or rips in the liner. It still looks great.
I don't think you can go wrong with either the Rhino or the Line-X. Make sure to check out some samples of the work of the company who is going to spray it in for you. They should be able to show you several trucks they have sprayed. Line-X has a web-site at www.line-x.com. The site also has a dealer locater.
..with mirrors telescoped in..8-foot 6-inches
..with mirrors telescoped out.9-foot
From what I can measure, the mirrors telescope about 3" on each side. Good luck trying to fit in those single garage doors, I am lucky to have a 16x7 door.
Borla exhaust on, sounds real good, quite until you start to give it juice. Still doesn't quite have the deep monotone like a v-8 or v-6 would, but still is an improvement over stock!!
Has anyone tried going through a drive-through yet?? Just curious if the trucks will fit...I guess we will have to pay a little closer attention to the clearances now!!
...Hey Crazyelvis, we hit 70-degrees for a high today!! HEAT-WAVE!! Lows have been around 30.
..time for Steak-n-Shake...more later....
Another question: I have the XLT trim on my CC. I noticed that the courtesy lights on the rear doors do not light. Do they only light on Lariat? Can you pop the covers and insert lights?
For those of you waiting, I'll measure the width of the truck tonite with mirrors (non-TT) extended and collapsed.
Gossamar.... Pink Floyd?.. did not realize anyone listened to them anymore (except me & now, you). good to hear no problems except trying to fit the big beast into little places. everyone's asking about those telescoping mirror distances (min/max & I'm rather curious too, as we've ordered those (why is Ford even bothering with option code 54Y as everyone's going to be ordering 54E from now on).
Kgrantc... don't "switch" dealers!! if you've received your DORA the truck has already been ordered & the "deal" is now "out of the dealer's hands" until the truck actually arrives. it also means your dealer has the required allocation or they would not have been able to actually order the truck. remember, the DORA is an acronym that stands for: Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement. don't understand why you have not been scheduled (the entire truck must be in inventory beforehand) but perhaps your salesperson may be able to help by contacting Ford to determine what component(s) are "missing". we've also ordered the psd (with the 6 speed manual) so it's probably not the drivetrain. cab steps. they're "running boards" (standard on the Lariat (at least on the CC F350). it's a matter of opinion, but we like them. they're wide and they make it an easy egress. they're also lit on the Lariat. nice. we'd be concerned about "pipes" from a practical standpoint as you can easily slip on them. it really depends upon what "look" you're trying to achieve I suppose. finally, Crazyelvis (& others) turned us on to "Rhino" liners. personally not seen one but we're going with it because we can install our fiver hitch rails & then go for the "spray"... covers up almost the entire rails.
finally, Brutus is once again correct on the TT mirrors. I've posted previously on this issue but in summation: the mirrors can only be extended/retracted manually (they have "detents" so you can easily set each side equally). the "power" comes in when adjusting the "main" mirrors only. note that "spot" mirrors can also be adjusted (manually, though). and they fold in like the 54Y (non-telescoping) tow mirrors.
I ordered mine on 10-8 with nearly all the stuff on it.Duals,cc,Lariet 4x4 hd susp. tt package and leather chairs etc. Planning on buying a fiver once this is paid off.
I am not even looking for it until the after the new year. (hoping it will be sooner). I was told 16 weeks. sooo, until then. Glen39
Jimsrs, yep, I hope to get BIG-BLUE on the plates, I sent in the application, should know in a few weeks whethere or not somebody else in ILL. has what I want. If not, I had a few other ideas, like "IMAVTEN;IRAVTEN". Catchy huh???
For those wondering about the cab steps, there was some discussion back in group II about it. Basically boils down to preference. I had the factory mud-flaps installed and they match the cab-steps great! Plus the RHINO liner that is being sprayed next week will also match the steps. For me they are easy to step on, look good and are easy to clean.
Also, I agree 150% with SMCCARTHY about the CD player...it ROCKS!! On the drive home, some of the roads were kind of bumpy, but did not skip once!! For those of you not familiar with ILL. roads, they are the PITS!! Haven't read the book yet to find out about that DJ thing, maybe later tonight.
And hey I listen to Pink Floyd also....He is the greatest!!! wink wink.....
donlynch....I don't think the roll top would work if you have gravel haulers dumping into your truck.....I don't think the tracks would hold up to well under that kind of stress. Plus the tracks would get full of dirt and sand....wouldn't be a pretty picture.....and for 700-900 bucks I would not take the chance.
gossamar....man what a heat wave....savor the moment cause you are gonna be freezin' your gagotcheees off real soon!!!
Whalercat
supercharged crew cab.. although i didn't get to
drive it, i can tell you it really really moves!
when the driver mashed it, the tires were spinning
for a full 3 or 4 secs (even with slightly larger 33" tires and stock axle ratio, dunno which
though) . i can tell you that i myself have a few
mods on mine and that makes a good amount of
difference in performance, so a would definitely
make a huge difference.
whipple (twin screw) is coming out with one,
actually kenne bell's bringing out the whipple
charger for the v10 by the end of this year.
for pros/cons i would say:
pros: more power
better mileage.
cons: will be very very hard to get warranty
service on anything regarding the engine.
maintenance will be a little more often.
with the paxton, it uses the engine's motor oil
(which i dunno if it's a good idea) so you would
have to check it more often..
with the whipple, it has it's own motor oil so you
would have to check that often (very easy to do
so and refill).
*if* you like to romp on it, engine life will
decrease than if you didn't have a supercharger.
also, gotta use premimium gas (i have to now with
my mods).
whalercat: The difference between a F-250 SD and a SRW F-350 SD is beefier springs, and therefore a higher GVWR, on the SRW F-350. The DRW F-350 obviously throws in some different drivetrain components. The ride should be somewhat different between a F-250 SD and similarly equipped SRW F-350 SD, but to what degree is probably more a matter of opinion than anything else. The real issue is the higher legal weight capacity of the F-350.

FYI, with normal power mirrors the truck is 99.3" wide, which gives you about an inch more clearance on each side..
I don't do much towing, so I opted for the normal mirrors as I use the garage every day..
I ordered my truck with the 4.30 axle ratio. I understand that the higher ratios will give better highway performance (less engine wear and better gas mileage). I also understand that with the higher ratio I will be able to cruise at greater highway speeds than with the lower axle ratios.
Does anyone know what realistic cruise speeds are on the highway for a V10 crew cab? I just sold my sports car -- never owned a truck. I did this because I was tired of being trapped in the city on a fresh powder ski day in the high country. I decided to get a vehicle that would allow me to get through ANY snow storm -- but I also need a vehicle that will get me there fast. I don't expect sports car performance from my new truck but I'd like to get as close as I can.
I'm not a mechanic and don't know how to tinker. Warranty and reliability are critical to my modification decisions. If anybody has low maintenance ideas on how to maximize acceleration and top end speed, I'd really like to talk about it.
Lewac, thanks for your input on the cab steps. I'll stick with them and add the molded splash guards. What are you referring to when you say "fiver hitch rails" and "cover-up the entire rails"?
Talked to my dealer yesterday. He believes my order will get pulled by the factory next week. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Talk to you all later.
After reading all the posts here, I too will believe it when I see it. Until then I guess I will take the advice from all of you and wait patiently, and continue reading about all the great stuff and power I will be getting as an early Christmas present.
As for the TUBE step bars - the ones I put on (and the ones I've seen the most) are not perfectly round all the way. At the door entry they flatten out and have a heavy duty plastic step on them. The plastic is textured for good footing. The day I put mine on I went out toolin' around in the mud and covered the bars. However, the flat spot still had OK traction. The flaps will help keep the steps clear and safe. With running boards this wouldn't happen - but it all in the look you are going for.
Thanks for the input on the lights. I'll pop the covers this weekend and see if there are sockets and if they are wired (2000 CC). Report on Monday - also I'll make the mirror measurements I said I'd make last night - forgot! But it sounds like others have done it already with the non-TT mirrors.
Bummer day today - had to drive the old Dakota to work to return to the lease agency tonight. It amazing how quickly you get used to looking DOWN on other vehicles. I feel small in the Dakota now - but after tonight its GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothin but SuperDuty from now on!
Gossamar & Bess - Thanks for taking the time to measure mirrors, we all learned there...
Crazyelvis - Thanks for the info on the roll top. I would like to have some sort of top to help with gas mileage, etc., but don't want hastle of handling and storing a hard top.
Todlake - Wish we could drive 80 here in Oklahoma ... speed limit here is 70 on Interstates and 75 on Toll Roads. (tongue in cheek)

From the menu select CONTENTS, then select FEATURE ARTICLES, then select BIRTH OF TYRANNOSAURUS RED.... enjoy!
Your info on the axle ratios is incorrect. The taller gear is the lower number. The 4.30 is lower than the 3.73. The engine will be running higher rpms at all speeds with the 4.30 than it will at the same speed with the 3.73. In theory, that would tend to indicate that there will be more wear on an engine with the 4.30.
For the same reason (higher rpms at all speeds) the mpg will definitely be less. I have the 4.30 on my truck and I get a good 2mpg less than the guys with the 3.73. Some of that appears to be related to the fact that I have the duallys on my truck also, but you will definitely get less mpg with the 4.30 compared to the 3.73. I get 11.5-12 on the hwy at 70mph compared to an average of around 14 that is being quoted from the guys wih the 3.73.
As far as warranties go, federal law says that the dealer has to prove the aftermarket part caused the problem before they can deny warranty work. However, I think you would have a real hard time getting warranty work done on the engine and other drivetrain components if you have a supercharger. I'm considering a Gale Banks Power Pak, but that's basically just ram air and headers. A supercharger is totally different modification. Also, if I do decide to modify the engine with the Banks system, I won't do it until next year. My truck will be very close to the end of the warranty by then anyway, so it wouldn't really be an issue for me.
Wow!!! Thanks for taking time to explain and clarify the gear ratio thing. I've contacted my dealer and will change my order to reflect the higher gearing (which is actually the lower ratio number).
This change will, no doubt, affect my delivery date but I'd rather wait on my truck and have it right.
Brutus: Regarding engine mods, like you I'll probably wait a while before I do anything -- I don't want to jeopardize my warranty just to get a little faster start off the line.
Crazyelvis... listen to "Floyd", huh? we discover something new all the time. my "girlfriend" (why do they call our significant other that?... we've been together over 10 years) has not one clue what they are saying. in fact she doesn't really understand much of anything about them! oh, well, the differences in life continue...
Whamm1068 - complete VOPC information is available in step by step form complete with decoding information you'll need. It's available at Ford-diesel.com. Go to FAQ, then to Step 2 The Ordering Process. Complete and awesome. Dealer code 10 is the best priority that the dealer can assign. You seem to have ordered from a dealer with an allotment problem. Dealers only get trucks if they sell trucks. Otherwise they have to wait. I just got scheduled this week, week 8. As a matter of fact, the VOPC this morning changed by build date to the week of Nov. 1 with delivery Nov. 15, a week earlier than the day before. Excellent news since I wanted the truck for a trip with my youth group to Cleveland! If you look 50-75 posts back you will find some information about allocation if you haven't already seen it.
