Also, I have two payments left on my current VW lease. I normally would think that is $600 I am losing in negotiating power on new lease because the dealer is paying it off for me. The sales manager is trying to convince me that he is able to get VW credit to let me out early with no penalty because I'm getting another VW and that the dealer is only eating about $90 of the $600. If that's true, I don't mind losing $90 of negotiating power on new lease. Does anyone know how this works?  Thank you.

I don't believe that VW has a pull ahead program, so that $600 has to go somewhere. Either it is added into the new lease, or the dealer increases the trade value to accommodate that extra balance. I'd get a clear answer from the dealer before proceeding.

We don't know how it works. You just have to be satisfied with the numbers. If the dealer says they aren't eating it, they probably aren't. Otherwise, they would use that as a negotiating tool.

Update - I called VWCredit and what the dealer told me is not accurate. They occasionally run promotions where they eat 2 months of a lease in order to get someone into another VW, but they aren't running that now.

I'm saying that the dealer wouldn't claim that VW Credit was eating part of the payments, if they weren't. Knowing they were getting VW Credit to cut them a break, wouldn't you drive a harder bargain with the dealer? When it comes to lease turn ins and buyouts, the dealers and VW Credit have a lot more going on than we know about (not just VW, insert any make here).

During negation I was able to get a very good discount (21% off MSRP). However, when I then said I wanted to lease I was told it wouldn't be possible at the same price due to different manufacturer incentives (it went down to 13%).

Does this make sense? Michaell, do you have insight into such VW discounts? I was also offered an alternative still including the 21% off, but a much higher MF (0.00202)... Something doesn't feel right.

$750 customer bonus for financing vs. a $250 dealer incentive on leases.

Those are the incentives we know about. It's not always that way with every make, but many have purchase incentives that aren't valid with the lease program.
