    3rd "roll" = 3rd row

The rear most seats in a GX470 within 12" of the rear door and totally worthless except for Lexus to make more money when selling the GX470.

Hello. I am looking to purchase the 2005 GX. I have a few simple questions.

    1. Do all the versions come with the 3rd row seat other than special orders?

    2. Can I get the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System without getting the sport package?

    3. Has anyone seen the sport package other than in photos? Is the interior as ugly as it seems?

    Thanks

Can't make up my mind b/w these two. Price differences as well standard/available options b/w them have me going in circle.

Rear camera included with GX's nav is my (and wife's) strong pull towards GX as well as it being a larger, plush SUV with shorter turning circle (37.4 vs. 39.7 of X5). 3rd row in GX is impractical anyway, so not a lot lost when comparing that factor b/w the two.

'05 GX: TH, NL,Tow Prep, Wheel locks, Cargo Mat, Cargo Net (level 4 combo) has MSRP of $51,787 and this dealer in Atlanta would give me $2,100 off of that... Quote: $49,687 + $299 doc fee. That is $5,451 over the invoice ($44,535). I just don't feel good about this as it does not sound like a deal to me. But see, I love the rear camera and the NL. Don't want to let my emotions get the best of me.

'05 X5 3.0i: premium pkg, auto trans, xenon, PDC and Auto dimming mirrors if SPECIAL ORDERED. The dealer can let me have this for 3% over the invoice with all fees WAIVED. Before T&T, the price comes out to $46,134. That's $1,344 over the invoice price of $44,790. Definitely cheaper than GX by $3,852...though no Nav and rear camera and other disadvantages (no 3rd row, small cargo area, bigger turning circle, risky reliability). Yes, it's a BMW and drives fast like a 5 series sedan and 4 years of free maintenance service.

Please help me clear up my cloudy mind by commenting on the dilemma. I love GX but can't let X5 go off my mind. Just too many variables b/w them. Please let me know if GX can do better than above... and I will try forgetting X5.

Thank you very much in advance to those who respond.

    Simmon.

You are comparing two fairly different vehicles. We are in the market for a replacement SUV and the current crop of contenders include the GX470, MDX, XC90 (V8), LR3. Even though the GX470 has the smallest third row seat room, it still affords flexibility that the X5 does not.

If you simply want a 4 passenger SUV that drives well and isn't going to see any serious SUV duty, the X5 should do fine. However, I would question the "drives fast like a 5 series sedan" comment. I did drive a 2004 530i 6-speed when shopping for a sedan this spring. Ended up with a TL 6-speed. The 5 series is perhaps the best handling sedan in its class, but the 530i is a bit pokey with its 3.0 liter 225hp engine and 3,500lb curb weight. Noticably more so than a 3,200 lb 330i. The X5 adds another 1,300 lbs over the 530i. With an automatic transmission. I suspect the X5 3.0 would be dead last in most comparisons. Friends of my wife's opted for a X5 4.4 and are getting better gas mileage than their neighbors with a 3.0. Dealer claims the 315 hp valvetronic 4.4 is better suited to a heavy SUV application.

The MDX is wiggling its way to the top of our list, mostly because of my wife's preferences. It has the best Nav system (with rear view camera) in the business, a reasonably useable third row seat, nice amenities including bluetooth phone and XM radio, and better handling and fuel efficiency than the GX. It's not as sexy as the X5, nor as luxurious as the GX470, but it seems to have the combination of attribtes we are looking for. The LR3 is just too much of a reliability question mark. If the X5 grew to a 7 passenger vehicle and offered a 6-speed in the 4.4 liter version, we'd be in heaven. The XC90 V8 is the wild card. I am first on the list to test drive the "preview" model arriving at my dealership shortly.

Good luck with your decision. If I could squeeze into an X5, I think I'd also be looking at a Cayenne V6 6-speed. It's a little fresher and the handling is even another notch up from the already very good X5. But alas, we actually need an SUV that has some "U" in it.
  • davidc1davidc1 Member Posts: 168
Mostly agree with your assessment. But if you think X5 3.0 is overburdened, Cayenne V6 is seriously underpowered for it's weight (5600lbs). Also, you can't buy a Cayenne V6 without a whole bunch of unwanted options. They are so loaded, you might as well just get the V8.

Traded the 00 X5 4.4 for the 05 GX 470 Sport and I could not be more pleased. Got a fully loaded...no other options left for $51.4K and got a fair trade for the X5 too. X5 had wicked gremlins in the electric windows (4 repaired) and door handles (2 broke)...glad it is gone. The GX is not as sporty a feel but the ride is more comfortable, nav is awesome, Levinson sound system incredible and the back up camera really is function. Camera even allows you to see your tow hitch and backing it up to our motorcycle trailer worked like a charm. The KDSS must help with stabilizing during cornering as the body lean is minimal. The suspension just eats up the rough road. I hope my GX will live up to the Lexus reputation for reliability.

Hello - I am looking to purchase a 2004 GX 470 - loaded, MSRP is approx. $51,800. Please provide me advice on what I should offer for this? Also any guidelines on other configurations in terms of pricing either as a discount to MSRP or in relation to invoice price would be appreciated. Thanks!
  • lexus411lexus411 Member Posts: 12
Go back and look at post 438. I think this was a good method used to calculate a fair price for both the dealer and the customer.

I just bought a 2004 GX 470 with a MSRP of $49,998 for $43,800. So you should at least be able to get $6000 off MSRP. In your case, I think you should be able to get even more!
  • rugx470rugx470 Member Posts: 5
Did your GX have NAV and KDSS and are u based in FL? Thanks!
  • paul179paul179 Member Posts: 10
Looked at 2 leftover '04s that had an MSRP of $46K and $48K. They both have the third row and one has a DVD player. Dealer told me he would take $3K off the price;I think he can do better then that. I'll take the non-DVD at $40K-am I being reasonable?
  • lexus411lexus411 Member Posts: 12
Sorry, I was off a little on the MSRP. It was the standard build of $49,883.

This includes Nav/ML, 3rd row seats, rear spoiler, Wheel Locks, trunk Mat & Cargo Net. It does NOT have KDSS or the RES.

I purchased my GX470 in NC at Johnson Lexus.
  • lexus411lexus411 Member Posts: 12
IMO $40K would be a very good deal, but it is reasonable. I think even 40,500 would still be fairly good. Don't pay over $41,000.

What's a good price for the '05 edition with Navigation, Third row seat and DVD player?
  • luckygxluckygx Member Posts: 2
I paid $3,714 off MSRP for your config (+ gold trim and chrome exhaust tip)

    Here is my price breakdown:

    MSRP $54,325

    Paid $50,611

    Taxes $3,036.66

Title, Tag, Warranty right fees $41

    Total paid all inclusive $53,688.86
  • rugx470rugx470 Member Posts: 5
Is $45,899 a good price for a MSRP $51,863 GX 470 2004 model with DVD and NAV and 3rd row but no KDSS.

    Thanks
  • zerocarzerocar Member Posts: 3
That sounds like a great price. I bought mine in the NY area w/o the dvd for 44,800. So you did pretty good. I'm installing a 10" aftermarket for $900.
  • et415et415 Member Posts: 1
I just got a 2004 GX 470 with MSRP of $46,282 (includes third row seat, hitch bracket, and preferred accessory package) for $40,000. I love it, and I think I got a pretty good deal. Dealer is going to come to me for complimentary 30 day and 5,000 service (they have a mobile service unit). Another dealer who I asked to match the price said it was below invoice.
  • mdgxmdgx Member Posts: 8
Was it an 05? I'm shopping for an 05 now in Montgomery County - what was your dealership?
  • md_usermd_user Member Posts: 10
    Try the South Bay Lexus ((310) 325-9999). I live in Maryland and the area Lexus dealers are insisting on sticker price claiming the vehicle is a "hot cake" so I tried South Bay Lexus and got an internet quote for $48,166 with a MSRP of $53,422. Listed below is the configuration;

    GX470 2005 with Navigation System,Third-row seat,

Lexus DVD Rear-Seat Entertainment System (RSES), Towing prep package, Preferred Accessory Package (includes

Cargo net, Cargo mat and Wheel locks), Chrome exhaust tip. No MD/DC/VA got any close to the price.

Aloha and happy holidays from NJ.

I currently own a pristine 01 RX300 AWD, 47K, all options EXCEPT Nav Trade in value around $23K according to Edmunds. I want to buy an 05 GX, at net cost to me (ie Dealer cost minus my trade plus fees etc) of ~$20K..with NAV, Spoiler, NO THIRD ROW (don't need or want them), no towing package either.

Have owned 3 Lexus vehicles. First 2 purchased from Prestige Lexus in Ramsey, NJ but on third, they seem to have gotten a bit "hoity toidy" and didn't want to deal, so I ended up at Warnock Lexus dealer in E. Hanover NJ.

    My questions therefore are:

    a) Which NJ Lexus location have you found to be the best price from..

    b) Do you think I can get to the price I want based on options/trade I described..

    c) I am NOT in a rush, so advice on when BEST time to buy is also appreciated (I guess I don't understand why it's better to wait until Jan or Feb).

    d) I also purchased the transferable extended 7/70 Platinum warranty. I can work that into the deal, right?

Thank you and happy holidays and a PROSPEROUS New Year to all..

    Ed in NJ
  • davidc1davidc1 Member Posts: 168
Ed, I believe Prestige Lexus is one of more competitive dealers. I doubt you can the deal you want unless you are willing to get one of leftover '04 GX. I also doubt you'll find one without the 3rd row seat. I've never seen one without.
  • mdgxmdgx Member Posts: 8
You live in MD and bought your car in Calif? How did you get it to the east coast?

Hello David and thanks for the quick reply.

My problem with Prestige Lexus is simple - they didn't treat me a like a loyal customer !

Here's the story (sorry if it's a bit long)...

I walk in to a dealership where, in the course of 5 years I had bought 2 cars: an ES300 and an SC400. I asked to speak to the salesman who sold me the SC, and he came over and said "I'm very busy, put your name on the waiting list and someone will get to you.." I said "Well, then I guess I'll take my business elsewhere". This seemed to get his attention, and I said "Look this is an easy sale.. I bought the SC here (my trade in), you have the RX in the color and configuration I want, I know fair value for both (from Edmunds), so let's make a deal". He had the used car manager look at the SC (which I kept in pristine condition, had new tires, and not a scratch or ding anywhere), and wrote up a price sheet(Cost, less trade-in) that was about $2000 away from where I thought we should be, and said he was "too busy to work on the numbers". The good news was he gave me a copy ! So, I headed home (BTW, Ramsey is about 40 miles North of where I live now) and on a whim stoppped at Warnock purely because it was sorta en route home. Walked in..asked to speak to a salesman..showed him the paper that Presitge gave me..told him what I needed (this was on Oct 29, 2000)for a price and he went and got the used car manager..then went to the sales manager..came back and said " you have a deal if you leave a deposit now ". I said "No problem"..and signed the papers..

Now for the punchline.. On Monday morning Prestige calls me and says they can offer me a Loyalty Rebate of $500..so now we are only $1500 apart.. I explain that I already bought the car at the price I wanted..but thanks for telling me about the rebate.. I call Warnock and say "Hey did you forget about my rebate?" and the salesman says "yep, I did.." and we agree to use it to add Lojack ..Drove to Warnock (it was Halloween night) with the SC..filled out the paperwork..and that was it.. The whole process took less than 2 hours..

BTW, the salesman at Warnock isn't there anymore, or I would go back there in a heartbeat, BUT thought I'd post here anyway to see what others have to say about NJ Lexus dealers..

I agree that finding a sans third seat will be tough..but I won't know for sure until I try !

    Happy Holidays..

Ed, that's interesting but I think most dealers are like that (not very consistent). At any given day, you'll get at least two contrasting experiences. I didn't go to Ramsey since it was more than 10 miles away. I am lazy like that. Instead I went to one closer in Englewood. My friends have gotten better deals at Prestige but I was told that Englewood service was better and obviously much closer. But later I heard from others that Prestige service is better. So go figure. In any case, we are getting the Lexus in hopes of not needing the service right? Re: 3rd row, you'll probably have to order one and wait 6-8 weeks for it, if they'll build it at all. I don't know why Lexus don't make it a standard equipment when you can't get one without anyway. Keep us updated on your progress.

I hope to purchase a 2005 GX 470 in the Bay Area before January 1st, although I would travel outside the area if I could save some money. Does anyone recommend a particular dealer and if so why? I do not need for it to be fully loaded if that helps. Also, what are some good tips for negotiating the best price? Thank you!
  • wonderfullwonderfull Member Posts: 15
Great price....hopfully this will help me get a better rate in Bay area...

Can adults comfortably sit on the 3rd row seat?
  • lexus411lexus411 Member Posts: 12
Adults will NOT fit in the 3rd row seats. These seats are even tight for a child.
  • gxorlrgxorlr Member Posts: 16
I test drove a LR3 and a 2005 Lexus GX470. Its hands down Winner! You guess which one or see the title of my post. LR3 has just begun to stick to its reputation of "unreliable". I wish them luck with their ridiculous pricing and nonsense dealerships. Lexus on the other hand was a "Maaavalous" experience. Bought one will have one in 10 days. Its loaded and I will remember "December to remember" from Lexus. No no one is paying me to tout a good product except for my own will. 270 hp feels just about right for this fancy truck. Good luck and Happy new year to all current Lexus owners and potential owners.

    Thanks

my wife and I are expecting our second child soon and the first one is still in a car seat. My wife drives an ES300 and I drive a Sequoia. When I drive she sits in the back with our child. My question is, has anyone experienced having 2 car seats in the second row? If so, can an adult sit back there as well with some comfort? We are also looking at the MDX which seems to be the widest of the SUV's we are looking at (X5, ML 350, XC90), however my brother has an MDX and my sister just bought an MDX a couple of days ago. Thanks for all the help if possible.

i got my 2005 gx at south bay lexus in torrance off pch for $47K and a little over $50K out the door. i spoke to the internet dealer. dealt with him over email and phone, picked up the car in an hour. really painless. drove it back to SF afterward.

on the late 2004 gx , the 3rd row seats were FREE . the 2005 gx has bluetooth and the upgraded navigation , and stronger engine that is more efficient . in addition the 2005 gx has the new 5 speed automatic gearbox . most 2005 gx's are coming now with michelin's .
  • mdgxmdgx Member Posts: 8
Just bought a loaded 2005 Blizzard from MD dealer. After much legwork received quotes from $500 off MSRP to three quotes at around $1800 off. Pulled the trigger at that amount as I did not feel that it would get much better until later in the year.

Also received a $2500 off quote from Atlanta and a $0 off quote from Charlotte.

Dealers still report that they are selling all they can get in this area.
  • gxorlrgxorlr Member Posts: 16
Please tell us what options are included in your out the door price of $50k? The financing deal before Jan 04, 2005 from Toyota Financing was very good 3.76% with its December to remember event. I had a great experience buying. No pressure No stress but then again I knew what I wanted and for exactly how much. (I ended up paying 1% more than what I had intended on the gross because I knew I was getting a good deal with financing too) It seems that Lexus supply for GX is well controlled. They are not flooding the market keeping the demand levels high. Also, more and more dealers are purchasing GX's w/o RES and then installing it themselves as after market charging $1500 for Audiovox'. Make sure if you are getting a RES then its OEM installed. Simply means that when it gets off the ship in CA or NJ it has RES on it. Good luck.

I went to the Columbus, OH dealer to negotiate a gx470 and they would only come off MSRP by $2000 for an 04. I want an 05, they only had one on the lot and said they would only come $100 off of MSRP. I am looking for dealer in the midwest that will negotiate online or by phone. I am looking to pay $2000 over invoice. Any help would be appreciated.

Last week I bought a 05 Blizzard GX with MSRP of $52,330 for $47,000 plus tax. Has NAV, ML sound, 3rd seat, rear spoiler, tow upgrade, accessory package (wheel locks, etc.). Car should be here tomorrow. Dealer was Ray Catena Lexus in New Jersey.

Faxed a request for prices to about 12 dealers on east coast. Since there are very few GX's in stock now, response was not great, but this offer beat everyone by a wide margin, and I should have the car within a week of making the deal.

Seems anything in stock or coming in has 3rd row seat, which I did not want, but was not interested in waiting the 3 months that I was told would be required to order a car without 3rd seat. Prices for a special order without the third seat were higher than what I paid for the car with the seat.

All negotiations were done in a day by fax and phone. So far, a very pleasant experience.

Does your 05 GX include a Rear ent. (DVD)?

47k is an excellent price. TIA
  • win26win26 Member Posts: 4
No, my deal did not include the rear seat entertainment system. If I still had young kids, it would be a nice feature.
  • moj1moj1 Member Posts: 11
i paid ~$46,989 at south bay lexus in torrance (contact the internet specialist) for 2005 gx470 ash blue with DVD-nav, ML, 3rd row, chrome tips, wheel locks. No res or spoiler, but really did not need them anyways.

the gx is nice but few things are annoying. you can tell lx470 is much more luxurious car. my wife has a sc430, and hands down a much more luxurious car, which she always reminds me (of course, more $$$)
  • gxorlrgxorlr Member Posts: 16
Win26, Thanks for your reply. Makes me feel a little better coz I paid as much as you did to the same dealer. (I paid addtl $1500 for the RES)

I think, based on your post my GX is on the same Boat arriving on Jan 06. If you get yours let me know and I will do the same if thats ok with you.

    Thanks.

Gxorlr, got a call at 4:00 pm today that car was at dealership. I'm picking it up Monday. Mine was on shipment that arrived in Newark on Dec. 30.

Win26, I wish you lots of fun. Mine came in at port (?) Jan 6 so they said when I called. I expect delivery by midweek next which clashes with my schedule. I guess next Sat would be my best bet. I would take delivery daytime so that I can check the GX out in natural light.

Since you will be taking delivery prior to I do, please give me some pointers if you think I should have it before hand. I wish you best of luck and enjoy your GX.

    Thank

Win26 & gxorlr, congra. on yours new GX470. I have questions regarding your purchase at the dealership.

Gxorlr, did you purchase the GX thru the Internet dept. or it was a walk in sale. Lease or purchase?

I bought the same truck as win26 on 1/1/05 (same dealership), but added a dealer install 10" DVD. My price was $50,718, MSRP of $52,330 plus $2,200 for the DVD. In my case, I paid $3,700 more (over win26 $47,000 purchase price) for a after market DVD and $2,200 more (over gxorlr $48,500 purchase price). Seem like I didn't get a good price. My price was a "Discounted Internet Price".

I also expect delivery by midweek (1/13). But won't take delivery until Sat. morning. Hope to see you at the dealership. (by the way gxorlr, what color is yours?)

    Regards.

    CarK,

    I walked in.

    I never mentioned $48,500

Color is Meri blue. Royal huh?

What else do you want to know?? ;-)

How is your stint at the dealership?

    You didn't pay too much.

You can get a loaded 05 for just under $51k

    How do you say booklin.

    Whats your color?

P.S. What was your actual purchase price?

Hi. I just picked up my new GX470 last weekend. My wife and I love it although the tire pressure warning light came on a day after we picked it up. We might have to bring it to service to reset the light.

My model has 9700A. Does anyone know what that means? Thanks in advance.
  • scott1scott1 Member Posts: 50
"My model has 9700A. Does anyone know what that means? Thanks in advance"

Lexus does running changes in its models during the production year. 9700A, designates yours as being a part of the initial production run of the GX470 for I'm assuming , 2005.

When they decide some change or improvement is in order, that next production run will be 9700B.

I have a late edition 2004, and mine has the designation 9700G, which was the final batch of 2004's. They started over at 9700A when they started 2005 production.

I am trying to decide my exterior color b/t the Blizzard White and the Silver Pine. The brochure makes it hard to realize the true colors from the swatches and the dealers close to me do not have any in stock. Is the Blizzard White a bright white or more of an offwhite/beige? Thanks.
  • win26win26 Member Posts: 4
I had the same problem and decided to take a Blizzard because I could get it now rather than waiting some indeterminate time for Silver Pine. From a distance, the Blizzard looks real white. Up close, in bright light, you can see the gold metal fleck in the paint, and it warms up the white (which is why they call it Blizzard "Pearl" I guess). It is a nice shade of white, but it sure looks white as opposed to gold or beige. White also tends to make the car look somewhat larger than a dark color.

My first choice was the Silver Pine based on the small paint chips, but I saw a video on the Lexus website of a Silver Pine GX. Though it was rather poor quality internet video, it looked a lot more green than silver, so if you want a silver car, that may not be it.

The dealers do have some larger paint samples in the showroom, about 4 inches square as opposed to the 1 inch samples in the glossy brochures.

The Blizzard Pearl has grown on me in the week I've had it. From a comfort and performance standpoint, the car is fantastic.
