Recieved a quote for a certified (3 year 100K warranty) on an '04 GX470 with Nav/DVD and 3rd row for $45,800 with 19,000 miles. Best price for a new '05 with same options was 49,900 but the warranty upgrade was $1700 more. Does this used deal sound good? I live in an area with one Lexus dealer and the closest competitor is 100 miles away. Original price on the '04 was $47,950. Any feedback appreciated.

I live in TX and got quote for 2005 GX470 with Nav, rear DVD, 3rd row seat for 48800 and another with same options but sports model (with KDSS) is for $48000 (yes $800 less than regular model!).

Is it a good price to consider?. Do I need to buy extended warranty?. Any suggestions welcome.

Sounds like a fantastic price to me, especially the sports model.
  • txsue101txsue101 Member Posts: 5
It's a better quote than I got..GX-470 with Nav and 3rd row for about $49000 in Houston, TX. Can you tell me the dealer you got the quotation? I'm willing to travel any where in Texas.

    Thank

Most of the initial offers I got today are what Edmunds claims is invoice plus 5-8%. I try never to pay more than 3% over invoice for a car that isn't rare. The sport models appear to have over 10% markup, but they are hard to find. I've found about 10 in Southern California, Northern California, and Nevada combined.

Longo Lexus lists invoice at about $1000 more than Edmunds -- I wonder if that's a bunch of junk I don't need.

My plan -- and one that's worked in the past -- is to walk into the dealer with title to my trade in and a cashier's check for a certain amount and tell them to take it or leave it. This time I'm going to do it by e-mail. I'm going to try for just under 3%.

Anyone try this in Socal? Anyone know if any dealers are having problems selling this year?

Just received a quote for an 05 GX470 for $47,000 in RI. Car has the following:

    Nav/Audio
    3rd Row & Rear A/C
    Hitch Bracket
    Rear Spoiler
    Cargo Mats & Net
    Plus Dest Charge

Does this price seem to be in line? Looks like about $1600 over invoice.

hello, i recently bought a GX 470. I noticed the car had 150 miles on odometer but somehow didn't ask the sales person, as I thought i was getting a good deal, 1500 over invoice.

Should I have asked the sales person and not bought this car, or is this common and not to be concerned about ... any opinions ? thanks.

I went to Lexus website. Got all email info of all dealership(over 160) and requested from all of them for a quote. Not everyone responed with figures but a lot did. Its a lot of work but it paid off. Negotiated $6450 off MSRP on a model with Nav/DVD/3rd row/spoiler. Dealer is just a drive away. It's not the lowest but you have to consider shipping cost if it is over 500 miles away. Here are just a few of the quotes I got:

It's 150miles. That is nothing! Just enjoy!
  • alexmn76alexmn76 Member Posts: 6
maxhonda thanks, it is certainly enjoyable suv.

And to all others who have comments about vibration issues. Here is my take/assesment: GX does not have vibration per say, it is an ultra-smooth plush ride truck. However keep in mind, it is still a "truck", and not a car.

I am just guessing that people mentioned getting/hearing knocks after the GX having stopped. I think that is very normal, a teeny slight sound of the "trucks" differential. I kinda even enjoy that slight sound, it gives the feeling of a truck, as if a might power-house has just come to stop. I believe the RX doesn't have this feeling of tick/knocks, as its differential and build is car-based.

Now I do hear at times, when my 3rd row seats are folded, they do a little shaking and sometimes a noise on bad road, but thats about it. Overall, the "truck based suv" is SUPERB.

The only one thing I dislike our the Halogen Headlamps. I replaced them with a Performance PIAA bulbs, however that still didn't make much difference. Any comments from folks that put HIDs ? I'm at moment against putting them, cause they wont have the essential 'self-leveling' mechanism (and maybe it voids warranty too, or problem when selling to dealer)
  • jephjephjephjeph Member Posts: 17
I negotiated to that price by getting internet quotes from all the local dealers. I went in to Putnam with a firm quote for another dealer, closer to my house, that was pretty close to that.

By grinding multiple players, and playing off against them, you get the best deal.

    I didn't _need_ to buy a GX470 that day.

    Max,
I'm in southern California. Was your $6,450 off MSRP (or any of the other real competitive quotes) out this way? If so, what dealers and how much off MSRP were they? Thanks much.
  • jss999jss999 Member Posts: 1
Can anybody offer an opinion as to reasonable price
Local dealer has a Lexus corp GX470 '05 Black with 11,800 miles on it.
Stickers at $54300 has Nav, 3rd row seat, rear ent system, tow hitch, spoiler, chrome tip.
They are selling as a new car--title will be 1st. Warranty will be with in service date of 9/04 thus will run for three more years.
Have not done any hard negotiating with them--they are asking $47.5-$48. How much should the 12k miles knock off the price versus the brand new one?
  • alexmn76alexmn76 Member Posts: 6
I would say, knock of 3k from their price.
  • schneider1schneider1 Member Posts: 1
I just bought a new '05 GX470 today with same features and MSRP of $54,348. Contract price is $48,425 plus tax, $299 doc fee and $42 registration.

I ended up buying the car. The MSRP was $53378 (included dealer adds of $590 for pinstrip and rear window tint). I calculated the invoice price is about $45484 plus whatever the real cost is for the pinstrip and rear window tint.

    Hi,
I am looking at leasing a GX 470 also. $597/month looks like an extremely good price. Do you mind if I ask a couple of questions?

You said the term is 32 months correct?
    What is the residual?
    MSRP?
    Capitalized cost?
    Lexus of Southhampton?
And I believe you said $1800 down?

I really apreciate your time. I haven't been to a dealership in my area yet, Wash DC/Northern VA, but I will update you with any pricing I receive.
  • drivebydriveby Member Posts: 3
yes 32 mos. i think i recall mid 30s for the residutal. msrp was high tho, 53k. I don't know about the cap cost. dealer was lexus rvc. I am pretty sure it was 1800 down. i am going to stop back in tomorrow to confirm/buy if the numbers work out

Can you please let me know who the dealer was in Houston? Was this the best offer you found? If so I'd like to contact them to see if they have one available. Thanks!
  • txsue101txsue101 Member Posts: 5
I got the same offer, $46900, from Clear Lake Lexus and Sterling McCall Lexus. I think both dealerships are owned by the same person. I went with Clear Lake, closer to home. I offered a couple of dealership, Westside and Northside Lexus, $46500. But both said no. I did all the negotiation via email and told them I was ready to make the purchase the next day.

Hi, looking to buy '05 GX in the next two weeks. Anyone got any good deal in CA recently?? Appreciate any info on dealer name and price. Willing to travel to anywhere in California. Please help. Thanks!!!!

    I am also looking into a GX470.

My question for you guys is:

Since it is the end of year should I get the 2005 edition or 2006?

Im am leaning towards a 2005 since I am more likely to get a bigger discount. But in the short few years how will depreciation hurt me?

I am betting that the 2006 model wont have big big changes and that I should get a better finance rate in the 2005.

    Thank you in advance.
  • genemachine2genemachine2 Member Posts: 6
I'm in the same boat... this seems like a great time to get a good deal on a 2005, but then it starts off with a year of depreciation soon after you drive it home. Still I think 2005 is the way to go unless you are planning to lease, in which case you're probably better off with a 2006 since it will have a higher residual and your payments probably won't be much different than a 2005, but you'll have a 1 year newer car when the lease expires.

Received an offer of $48,500 on a 2006 GX MSRP of $54,608 with the following options:

    3rd row seating,
    Mark Levinson Audio
    Navigation System
    DVD Rear Entertainment System
    Tow Bracket
    Rear Spoiler
    Preferred Accessory Package
    Cargo Net

Should I jump on it. Thank you fin advance for all of your help.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I paid MSRP for my 2003 when they first came out. I have an order in at Lindsay Lexus of Alexandria, Virginia for a fully loaded 2006 GX (including the Sports Package) and have been quaking in my boots at the prospect of negotiation. This is encouraging. Would you mind telling where you're getting this deal? At least the city? Thanks.
  • delaxdelax Member Posts: 4
$48,500 seems a damn good price for a loaded 2006 GX 470. Which dealer quoted you this price? Thanks
  • jim_beckerjim_becker Member Posts: 2
I'm still comparing GX470 with MB ML350. It appears that dealers now are more willing to lower their prices due to high gasoline price and decreased interests in SUV's. I got an offer of $48,000 for the same 06 GX470 configuration as yours from a local Lexus dealer; an offer of an 06 ML350 at the inovice. We reason that probably if we wait for a while, the downward pressure on pricing will be even greater.

Dealers make more money on "holdbacks" from car manufactures, so turn over rate for them is more important than haggling a few hundred bucks away from a customer. One more day parking in the lot is one day loss for the dealers.

The advantage for us is that we have the money in our pockets: we decide when to buy and from whom to buy.
  • szhouszhou Member Posts: 2
    Jim,

From which dealer did you get your offer on the GX470? Thanks.
  • jim_beckerjim_becker Member Posts: 2
It's in metro D.C. area. I'll post detailed info when I complete the purchase.
  • rappcovarappcova Member Posts: 24
Hi Jim -- Regardless of which SUV you buy, I'll be interested to know which Lexus dealer you're talking to. Frankly, even with all I've been reading in the media about SUV sales, I'm surprised that Lexus is discounting so early in the model year. This is as it should be, and probably also reflects Toyota's wish to maintain the huge market share it's established in the U.S. BTW, I highly recommend last week's Barron's article about Lexus.

Hmmmm.....at the same time, I wonder if it's going to be a struggle to get a decent price for my 2003 GX!!!
  • rappcovarappcova Member Posts: 24
You and jim becker both specify "06" as the model year for your $48,500 and $48,000 quotes. I've been checking Internet sales for a couple of dealers and their offers are more in the $51,500 range (which is $3,000 higher). The higher price seems more in line with what Lexus would do on their new model 06. Even Kelley Blue Book lists the "New Car Blue Book Value" as $51,231. The lower prices seem more like what they're getting for their end-of-year 05 inventory. Nobody's named a dealer that's offering those very low prices--so I'm waiting before I stick my neck out in negotiations. Can y'all confirm that these rock-bottom prices are, indeed, for 06's, and, if so, what dealer????

    Many thanks.

Purchased 2006 GX 470 based on the below config (no rear entertainment system) from Lexus of Westminster in Orange County, CA for $47,500 (w/o tax, license, title). Most Internet quotes for this same config were $47,880. Internet quotes from other dealers which included the Rear Entertainment System were $48,995 (Keyes Lexus, Van Nuys, CA) to $49,096 (Lexus of Riverside,Riverside, CA). $48,500 seems to be an acceptable and reasonable counteroffer. However, the price of $48,000.00 seems to be on the very low side for a quoted price.

    3rd row seating,
    Mark Levinson Audio
    Navigation System
    Tow Bracket
    Rear Spoiler
    Preferred Accessory Package
    Cargo Net

I just purchased an '06 with Sport Package and have assembled quite a bit of evidence that my dealer didn't give me a very good deal. Partly my fault for not "shopping around". I'd be glad to discuss it, but want to hear from somebody else who's bought one with Sport Package before going into details. Anybody out there?
  • davidc1davidc1 Member Posts: 168
Well I got mine for what was essentially $1500 off MSRP. I didn't want to wait, so I paid market price (or not) at the time. I am sure you did better than that.
  • rappcovarappcova Member Posts: 24
Hmmm....Yes, I would guess you could have done better. Your deal certainly doesn't help my case. I got mine for $2,800 off MSRP. Still would like to hear from anyone who thinks he/she got a good deal on the Sport Package equipped 06.
    Thanks.

    Hi There,

I was reading this forum and thought I would respond. I just got my 06 GX470 with sport package on Friday... but I lease all my vehicles so I can drive new every 3 years. I am assuming you bought. I live in MN and I got offered $3000 off MSRP as an opening offer. I didn't think that was a good deal. I called a National leasing company to check rates for the lease and that is when I was informed for sure that it was not such a good deal. He was able to get me the same car with an MSRP of $57,358 for $49,900 plus $600 for shipping for a total of $51,506. My rate ended up at 5.6%, but I was only offered 5.5 at Lexus. My payment is about $755 a month. I am happy with that deal. They were great to work with and they delivered the car right to my house. I dont think you got ripped off, I think its just typical of the dealership. Lexus, BMW, Ranger Rover...they dont like to discount their cars and for the most part they dont have to. Hope this helps a little. I love the car though and hope you too are happy with your new ride. Good Luck!!
  • rappcovarappcova Member Posts: 24
Thanks heaps for your info. It completely confirms other research I've done--here on the forum and by "negotiating" anonymously with other local dealers. I figure that I should have gotten about $2,400 more in discount (which isn't even as good as you got). But yesterday I came up with another theory. Remember the rule that you should NEVER bring the trade-in into the new-car negotiations until after you agree on a price for the new car??? Well, I ignored that rule. I had obtained a quote on my '03 from CarMax for $33,000 which was above Kelley Blue Book trade-in. My dealer offered me $30,600. When I showed them the other quote, they refused to budge. The difference in quotes was $2,400. Is it coincidental that I think they gouged me $2,400 on the new car? I don't think so. If I had accepted their low quote, they would have certified the old car and made a bundle in profits. I might have gotten $2,400 more of a discount on the new car, but the net result would have been the same as I now have. However, if I had kept my high quote in my pocket and done a better job of research/negotiation before agreeing to a price on the new car, I'd be at least $2,400 richer today. So, finally, you're quite right--a dealer will get just as much as he can. What irritates me most is that this is the 5th Lexus I've bought from the same dealer and same salesman. Customer loyalty means nothing, and I naively thought it did. Good lessons for forum readers: 1. shop and research 'til you drop and 2. leave your trade-in out of new car negotiations until after you agree on the best price for the new car. Again, many thanks--the more I can confirm I was right, the better I feel. And yes, I love the new car--it's the best SUV out there!

I received an offer of $47,298 on a 2005 GX470 with an MSRP of $51,298. I am in New Orleans and of course a lot of folks are buying after the storms and there's only one dealership. It seems that either I need a better deal on the 2005 or it makes sense to go for the 2006. Any advice. I need to buy this week!
  • rappcovarappcova Member Posts: 24
Your dealer no doubt has a captive audience down there. If I were you, I would get on the Internet and start negotiating with a couple or three other dealers in near-by states. At this point in the model year, they should be selling 2005's for just a bit over invoice. It would be worth the extra $2,000 or more in savings to travel to another dealer to take delivery. If you're not getting a good deal on the 2005, I'd bet that the deal on the 2006 at your local dealer would be far worse. I've found Internet negotiating to be quick and easy. SUV's are not moving well right now. You are in a buyer's market, if you can just find a person willing to negotiate. Hope this helps.
