If people really knew how much cars cost, over and above the purchase price, they wouldn't buy so many of them. But that'd put me out of work, so let's not tell them.
I had a 13 Exl V-6 Accord that I bought in Feb, 2013. paid cant remember about 25k for it excluding taxes etc. Tried to Trade it back to 3 or 4 dealers in Nov , 2013 with 2500 miles on it. 22k. was about the best price I could get on a trade in . Imagine that 7 months and only 2500 miles. That's why I preach get every dollar off you can.
All - I bought an accord, it was sitting on the dealers lot for 6 months before I picked it up Dont want to get into the specifcs, but this was in TX and it has definitely been eaten up by the sun. What should I do to ensure I can add some protective coat on the paint? Turtle wax?
One regimen calls for washing with original Dawn (to strip everything off), then using a clay bar, and then applying a wax. We could spend years on waxes (I'd like to try some Collinite Insulator Wax myself, but all that's a bit wasted on an old minivan).
After that initial detailed, you'd then regularly wash the Accord with a mild car soap and reapply the wax as needed.

More than the depreciation its the excise tax that kills me. In MA its $25 per thousand the car is worth. 90% of MSRP in the year of manufacture, my 4th quarter excise bill will be $200. I think in 2017 it will drop to 60% of msrp but idk, I've never owned a new car so it may stay at 90% for 4 quarters. Of course I paid sales tax as well when I bought the damn thing...
Socal (SD) dealer offering me 2017 Accord LX CVT 22,000 OTD not sure if that's a good price, other dealers giving me high quotes .
Hi @belon16, invoice is $22,263 and the TMV average price paid is $23,342.
Those prices include the $835 destination, and there's also a $232 ad fee on the invoice number. So $22,060 is a better invoice number.
You have a maximum $80 doc fee in California, but a large sales tax bill, probably around $2,000 - so working backward, your selling price is around $20,000 or $2,000 below invoice.

@Brian125, I live in the Atlanta, GA area and plan on buying a 2016 Accord EX-L by the end of the month. Can you give me a strategy outline to use when approaching dealers. What would be the first, second, etc. steps you would take. I understand inventory is low and it may be best to buy a 2017. Thank you.
Target all the dealers with your model and request online thru website / E-price, or by phone dealers best price. Always go thru each dealers Int/ MGR or dept when calling. Ask each dealer while inquiring what there doc fee charge is ? Make a spread sheet with each dealers offer , doc fee charge , Internet Mgr. name , email etc. Tell each dealer you will finance thru them if it nets you a better deal. your already pre approved with financing.
After you have dealers prices and doc fee's counter each dealers offer taking into consideration the doc fee. Make sure if a dealer agrees to your price your @2500 below invoice to 3k below.
To Negotiate a good deal you need to make this a 2 part process.
Step 1 or day one might be rounding up pricing gathering info.
Step 2 might be 2 days or a week later with telling all targeted dealers I buy today for X price.
Step 3 might be to start process all over again but this time looking for best pricing on the 17, model.
When models are limited dealers have pricing leverage. Your best shot a getting the best deal may come down to the very end of the month.
In the market for an accord touring. Which one you guys think is the better deal.
2016 Touring with 11,000 miles Honda certified with 7yr/100k warranty $28,850 Plus TTL
or
2017 Touring with 5 miles Factory Warranty $30,178 govern. Fees $60.75 Proc/Doc Fees $459.00 Taxes $1355.94
OTD-$32,053.69
Should I be surprised that the 2016 is not price a little lower. I think that for a difference of only $1328 difference the new vehicle is the better deal. I also have an appointment on Friday 9/30 with a dealer 1hr away who knows the best price I have so far, and they say they will beat my written proposal by at least $500.
Stever / Brian, where can I find invoice numbers. I found a site with invoice numbers and they seem to be off by what I'm seeing here by $1k. I looking for invoice numbers on each of the following '16 EXL, '16 ELX w/ Sensing and Navi, '16 EXL with V6. Also would like invoice for '17 EXL. Thank you.
The issue is probably due to the destination - there's $835 right there.
If you use the Make | Model dropdown tabs up top, and then click the Build and Price link, you'll wind up at a page like this (you may need to click on Choose a Style to get the laundry list).
You can then skim down the 26(!) models of Accord sedans and coupe and find the invoice and MSRP numbers - the EX-L invoices for $26,225 for example. Click on through to a specific style and you'll get to total price page which will add up the Invoice/MSRP and destination numbers for you and that's where you'll find the TMV average price paid. We usually lump destination in with MSRP and invoice here since you can't avoid paying the destination.
Here's the link for the 2017 EX-L FWD 4 cylinder. Invoice and destination on that one is $27,187.

Hi all, I was planning on buying a 2017 Honda Accord LX. The price that the dealer quoted is 19490+ fees. Is this a good price? It has no extras.Just the basics. I live in New Hampshire BTW and could buy from MA also.
If the $19,490 includes the 835 destination fee its a excellent deal @2539 below dealers invoice. If NOT shop around In the MA , Boston area you will save a few more dollars
Thanks for your super quick reply. I was looking at certified used 2016 Accords/Camrys and noticed that the difference in price was not too much. Will ask about the destination fee. Should I ask for any freebies to be thrown in? Just FYI, I am a lady with very basic knowledge of cars so I hope this is not too good to be true.
Ask dealer for 3 or 4 free oil changes . Tell dealer if they agree you will let them advertise there dealership name weather on license plate or sticker / 10's across the board on there dealer satisfaction survey.
I personally tell each dealer never to put there name decal on any of my vehicles. License plate frame I don't mind.
purchase price $30,106.90 process fees $499.00 tax $1270.14 dealer bus lic tax $58.15(why do I have to pay this) Purchaser online sys filing fee $10.00 License and title fee $50.75

Thanks for the advice. Final price OTD is 19,887(Accord LX ) plus registration etc. They said no free oil changes, but gave me mats though. They also offered extended warranty for 1480$, which is available till Wednesday when I will pick the car up and give them the cheque.
Good job . Pass on the $1408 warranty its Overpriced . You could buy warranty down the road from any dealer . What was offered for that price?.......................... 7yr, 0 deduct. ?
I'll post dealers that give excellent pricing on the Honda extended warranties .
Fill out online forms or call dealerships for pricing. There should be no Taxes added to any of these plans.
Curry Honda Moss Honda Saccucci Hyannis Bernardi
Out of above dealers get your lowest price for your desired coverage then call your local dealer to match price.
If you want my 2 cents..... Save your money on a Honda warranty. Id rather buy 1400 dollars worth of a couple of good blue chip dividend paying stocks / mutual fund , or a more conservative approach keep rolling over that money in a highest yielding checking acc. or CD
Check out America's credit union, Alden credit union there checking acc. plans net 5% if you meet there requirements.
Vanguard has the lowest fee's on there mutual funds. There are funds getting 6% to 12% over the last 3,5,12 yrs.
Brian 125, I did want your 2 cents I will take your advice and skip the extended warranty. It was 8 yrs or 100,000 miles I think. Definitely going to look into the 5% checking accounts. Do you have any favorite funds at Vanguard? Thank you for taking the time to give me dealer info, much appreciated.
Thanks Brian125. Got the car today. They tried to make me buy wheel and tire warranty and such. But I said no thank you, picked up the car and ran away as fast as I could....:)
hey guys.....any help please ... I am trying to get the 2016 EX with 22000 OTD, or XL (with sensing) with 20000 OTD, do you think that I can get them with these prices , especially that I live in NY state ? if not, what a good price should be ?
Invoice is $24,971 on the EX and TMV is about $70 more than that. A selling price of ~$20,000 seems a bit of a stretch - even $3,000 below invoice just gets you to $22,000 before your taxes and fees.
An LX with Sensing invoices for $22,805 and TMV for that one is within $15 of invoice.
With your apprx. taxes of 10%, that would also put your selling price close to $5,000 below invoice. Can't see it happening.
The other issue is that there's not much 2016 inventory left in your area. When leftover models thin out and dealers are selling the newest model, they seem to lose interest in blowing last years' models out.
Maybe at a month end, Black Friday sale and some weird election news scaring everyone (can it get any weirder though?) - dunno, still would be a stretch to get that kind of dough off I think.
$3,000 or more off invoice would make me happy if I was buying.
Hello. been a while but I still haven't bought an accord yet. What do you think about $23,000 for a used 2016 EX-L V6 sedan with Navigation with 20k miles? Personal car ..one owner via CarFax. Bought 9/2015.

I see your in VA did you price a 17 model ? Pricing in and around your area on the 17 model is $2500 to 3000 below invoice. If you could afford the 17 model go for it . Its a better deal in the long run unless your going to keep 2016 vehicle 8 to 10 years .

If I am qualify for the college grad program, OTD price will be $26,553.
Are they good deals?
Thanks
I don't see an EX-L with that high of a MSRP - are you shopping one with nav or Sensings?
Your taxes are roughly 10%, so your selling price quote is around $24,500. That's very good - the college grad incentive would be gravy.
