Since invoice numbers are not always obvious, my guess at this point is that the last of the 2016s can be had for c. $4000+ off msrp.

For a 2017, my guess is that you'd be looking at more like $3000 off of msrp.

    ....

    Internet price is $24786

$21k was offer no TTL, destination included.
    I was thinking
$23771 invoice for honda sport 2016 with sensing
    -$3000 offer
    +$299 doc fee
    $22070 subtotal
    +$1306 (6% tax)
    $23376 (without reg/plates)

    i'd check that math, it's 1000 off

    20771 + 299 = 21070 (not 22070)

That's encouraging to hear @photog72 - what dealer? Be nice to see the dealers here and in El Paso come around a bit too.

It was Gillman Honda. They have a huge inventory. I know they're willing to make deals to clear space on the lot.

    2016 accord sport w/ sensing invoices @23,848 + 835= $24,683 ( I use nada pricing )

Confused ???????? R you offering 21k with destination ? Or is dealer selling vehicle for 21k.

I mean if you do the math that's @$3683 below dealers invoice minus there 300 doc fee ( $3383 below invoice )

SORRY missed your first post. If you made a offer @21k and dealer said come down I might be skeptical depending on dealer that said it. If you IM me the name of dealer in MD I could tell you what I think and how to proceed.

MD pricing is tops in the country along side of CA. The big boys like Pohanka , Criswell in MD have made deals close to above numbers already so I would not be surprised if this deal is legit.

I finally wised up and abandoned the one dealer I was working with, as he was quoting everything above invoice on 2016 EX-L. I emailed 5 dealers in the Chicago area tonight (Sunday evening) and already have multiple responses. One dealer has quoted the below in a color combo I like:

    2016 EX L
MSRP 29,505 (no sensing or nav which is fine)
Price: 24,310 + tax and title

Going to counter with 24,000 even, but I think the deal at 24,310 is very strong.

Hello all, I'm in the market for a 2016 Accord Sport (non-sensing) here in the bay area California. I'm planning to call dealers and negotiate over the phone before I send out emails to dealers in my area. Would anyone recommend the best person to contact at the dealership? would it be the internet sales manager?
My target price would be $21,000 sale price and $23200 OTD
    Thank you!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Hi @bmwm5f1 - it's often recommended to "cut to the chase" and ask for the internet sales manager. Often though, the internet manager is just the next salesperson in line.

Sometimes you can find a staff listing at the dealer's web site and they'll list the actual managers. If there's no internet manager, sometimes you can get a good initial quote from the fleet manager if the dealer lists one of those.

Thanks for all the posts, very helpful. It's not easy here in South Florida, I still think most dealers are lying, cheating, thieves. Here is what I got on a 2016 Honda Accord LX...I used to be better at this:

    Price $19,629 (includes $149 wheel locks...thieves)
    dealer fee 699.95
    elec filing fee 98.75
    reg/lec 200
    tax 6% 1226.05
    tire/batt fee 6.50

    total 21,860.25

Most dealers (8 out of 10) won't even give a price over the internet e.g., we'll beat any written price, but we won't give you a written price...thanks for nothing)

Sad to say, your $699 doc fee is on the low end of the spectrum for Florida. Not a great place to buy a car.

    Congrats on the new ride!

i was able to get as close as 2500 below invoice. No dealers would even touch anything below 3k invoice. Some of them even went to the point of telling me you are stupid not to take the deal.

Closed on this 22435 MSRP and 24880 OTD including taxes documentation etc, for Honda Accord EX 2016 without sensing.

Thank you Brian for his guidance on this amazing forum.

I noticed at a larger local Honda dealer they have almost sold out of '16 Accords, less than 15. They have 90+ CR-Vs, however.

I wouldn't say that ..though the $4300 of negative equity is adding about $120/mo to your lease payment.

As long as you got a good selling price on the Accord. Go enjoy your new car!

24.9k for a 31.5k is a 6600 discount and not possible. beware excessive doc fees

they show 25.9k as the very best price!

Hello Brian and of course everyone else that has any inside information. I am going to take the buyback on my Passat in a couple of months and figure I may need to buy a 2016 Accord now since most all 2016's will likely be gone by November. (or will they?) What is the target price in Dallas TX for:

    1. EX-L V6 Sedan with sensing?
    2. Touring Sedan?

    What is invoice for both?

Here is your price list on models you wahttp://www.edmunds.com/honda/accord/2016/options.html?legacy=truent

If you opt for sensing in the V-6 exl model it only comes with the NAV.

Target price 2k below invoice on any model. If you can negotiate anything lower will depend on dealer stock and buying at the end of the month , otherwise if your buying this week take what you could get. Waiting till the end of the month could result in losing desired color and model on dealer lots.

Thanks Brian and team for your help and information on this site. I was in the market looking for a Honda Accord Sedan LX (2016) and was able to negotiate a decent deal here in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I asked for internet pricing and e-mailed 6-8 dealers in my area including the Chicago Region, before buying the Accord from Wilde Toyota in Waukesh (Zip 53188).

Here is the pricing breakdown for the LX:

Sales Price including destination - $19,400
    Registration Fee - $175
    Dealer Service Fee - $219
    WI State Taxes @5.1% - $1,052
    OTD - $20,846

Thanks Brian. So target price for touring is $30,642 and $28,877 for EX-L with Nav and sensing? I assume that is before TT&L and dealer add ons?

I assume it will be impossible to find much in stock on 2016's if I wait until I get buyback money on Passat in oct/nov?

I have the money in savings to just pay cash for the Accord, does that even give me any leverage anymore? Would I get a better deal if I finance through honda or dealership and just pay off in 3 months once I get my money? I would pay a little interest but maybe the dealer/honda will give me a slightly better deal thinking they will get some financing dollars?

Thanks again for advise on this.

    Touring invoice = 31,706 plus 835 = 32,541 @nada pricing minus 2k.

    EXL V-6 nav / sens = 29,941= 835 = 30,776... minus 2k

@Edmunds is always 1 dollar more on invoice pricing

Tell all dealers that you will finance the vehicle thru them if getting your price or a better deal can be had on that day . After a deal is struck on price Ask dealer what's the least amount you could finance thru them. $7500 to 10k should do it . Then pay off loan by 1st month.

Thanks again Brian. A local Honda dealer, that I have bought 2 cars from in last 10 years, has a 2016 EX-L V6 with sensing. It is used with 12k miles. Listed at 28,250. Carfax shows to be a former corporate fleet vehicle, not a rental. Only issue is back window replaced at 7k miles. What is a target price for this one in your opinion? Also, do you feel the touring has enough features to warrant 2k more than than EX-L with sensing?

last question 1st ( you feel the touring has enough features to warrant 2k more than than EX-L with sensing? )

I posted below the difference between your models. Here's what's added to the Touring model opposed to the EXL V-6. remember exl v-6 with sensing has Nav so the question is are the other options worth it to you. Me its not. But since I like both models and choice is limited at this time of the year I might go for the Touring model if there are no exl v-6 colors I like. you could look at it both ways.

Another thought is I like the touring model more if dealer discounts it more than the EXL model ?

The range-topping Touring takes the EX-L V6 offerings (minus the paddle shifters) and adds the features from the Honda Sensing package as well as 19-inch wheels, LED headlights (with automatic high beam control), automatic wipers, front and rear parking sensors, a rear deck lid spoiler, heated outboard rear seats and the navigation system.

I would consider buying the 2016 used Accord with 12k miles for 26k. Anything higher is not worth it to me. Edmunds has the private party sale @27,600. at that price what's the sense I could get brand new for 2 to 3k below invoice if I find the right dealer.

Supply and demand will be factors in pricing on 2016 models . Find dealers with 10 / 15 of your model and pricing will be better than a dealer with 1 or 2 of your model on there lots.

Your target price is the same across the board. 2k below invoice is a good deal this month in your area that's not to say you wont do better you might depending on how many dealers you have competing for your business.

Use the internet go on all your targeted dealers web sites look at there inventory. Dealers with 3 or 4 vehicles today might not be there tomm. or in a few days . Dealers with 20 or 30 vehicles is where the best deals lie. email / call them see if they have a model you like , make them a offer to buy that minute giving a credit card deposit to hold vehicle till you get down to dealership. Negotiate over the phone or thru emails with the internet manager or his team. The dealerships that wont negotiate on the phone or with emails you could visit .

Thanks Brian, according to Auto Trader there are 99 New EX-L's 4 cyl.. within 100 miles of me. Only 18 EX-L V6's. Probably better luck negotiating 4 cyl. Lets hope I like it well enough after test drive tomorrow.

I know lots of factors will vary my experience from anyone else, but will someone give me a ballpark of where I should expect to end up if I negotiate on an Accord EXL with sending(either engine - test driving today) or a civic touring?  With the 17s hitting dry ground, I want to take advantage of the timing, but don't even know where to begin. Also are there any factory to dealer incentives for leasing or buying?  Thanks!

Looking for a 2016 EX. I am getting quotes $23,500 to $24,000 less tax. $27,200 MSRP. I have seen discussions indicating $23 is possible. What are the dealer incentives to allow $2k below invoice?

What is the minimum that American Honda will finance (I want to apply the $500 military which is finance driven).

    thanks

I was just quoted the following in Rochester, NY. There aren't a ton of dealers here, but I could check in some surrounding cities (Syracuse/Buffalo):

    MSRP: $35,515
    Offered: $31,690
    Tags, Title, etc: $325
    Tax: $2,535

    OTD: $34,550

I feel like this is about $1000 high. Possible this is the price since we're in a smaller market? Any thoughts? Initial idea was to go back and ask for $33K OTD & settle for $33.5?

You can get a better deal. I'm thinking closer to the end of the month. But, there are others here with better opinions. I bought mine with a couple days left in the month and paid about $2000 below invoice. I'm guessing this is a Touring? I walked OTD for $33,400 in Texas.

Brian. You were so right! That V6 in the Accord is great! Shifts much smoother than I4 CVT. I figure about $1800 more for the V6 EX-L with Sensing over same with 4 cylinder is worth it. I only drive about 9k miles per year so savings in Gas will not be substantial with 4. Amazing how I can justify more power!

I figure the absolute best I am going to do on a new EX-L V6 with sensing is between $27,700 and $28,700 and inventory is dwindling fast. You think I could pull the used one I mentioned earlier for $25,000? It is same car but used with 12k miles. CarFax says Former "Corporate fleet vehicle" Only ding on vehicle is rear window replaced at 7k miles at a Honda Dealer. Listed at $28,250. I realize you said 26k earlier. Edmunds trade in shows 25k. Who knows how much they gave for it.

Like I posted earlier I would consider 26k if all else failed with new pricing and my choice of color on a 2016 model.

25k would be my firm price to buy with 12k miles on it . Problem is dealer wont under sell this Accord. But that's there problem not mine or yours. Tell dealer you will buy it for 25k

The V-6 had you at hello too... Don't cheat yourself for 1800 dollars. The I4 is best suited for folks living down in Gods graveyard  Florida .

Thanks Brian.  So I will be selling my Passat back to VW. Buyback happens end of October to December. Pros of waiting:

    1. Not borrowing from my savings.
    2. Get a 2017 accord
    3. Don't have to have insurance on 2 cars. (Will cost me about $200 for insurance for 3 months.)
    4. Minor risk of buyback money being delayed.
    5. Incentives from VW and other dealers to get my buyback money.

    Pros of buying now:

    1. Great deal on 2016 accord
    2. Park Passat means no chance of totaling. Only stipulation on buyback is being able to drive it to a dealer.
    3. Warranty out on Passat out September
    4. Passat tires won't make it until December. 235/45/18 tires are at least $400 installed.

What should I do? Also, White or silver accord?
