Accord LX CVT,  offered $19,200 including destination and doc fees, excludes tax title and registration.  Have spoken with 4 Indianapolis dealerships, best counter offer was $20,050. Is there addition room to move?  Is this a reasonable starting offer?

Don't know your doc fee charge that is in this equation but that aside

You offered @2692 below dealers invoice on the LX . Dealer countered with @1842 below invoice. You may be able to work a couple hundred more out of this deal if you buy by July 4th or 5th. otherwise a lower price may only happen closer to the end of July.

Looks like a sale of 2692 below invoice or ( $19,200 ) would be a 1st and top price out in INDY

For those shopping the DFW market Autonation in Lewisville will include the accessories at no additional charge when negotiating at the end of month. I was offered an Accord EX incl dest. for $21,735.

They say it was a pricing error and that price they offered is actually for an LX. Happened to me from Rusty Wallis, Dallas

Smells a bit like the good old bait and switch but I guess you've been dealing with this shop for a while. Have heard some less than complimentary reports about Dallas Honda dealers lately though.

Please take a few minutes and write up a Dealer Review (happy buyers, please submit one too). Thanks.

I think @brian125 is out of town for a few days.

TMV is $24,484 and Dallas is a tough market for Honda buying. Sounds like you have a good deal going.

Your sales price is about $2,600 below invoice and TMV. Looks good from here and in line with @brian125's reports

For comparison, TMV on a 2017 Touring is $34,451, about $700 below MSRP (we don't show invoice yet).

So you might be able to save a bit more on a 2016 since the new ones are showing up (there's a white one in Sacramento, for example). Hard to say, but you'd think prices will get a little bit better as the "old" ones get purchased. There's about 53 2016 Tourings for sale around Sacramento so the supply is good right now.

Wonder if I could apply military discount on top of the current deal to make it sweater. Didn't inform the dealer about me being ex-military. How much more is the military discount?

Believe the Honda military discount is $500 if active duty, active reserves or retired.

What is the real invoice including destination seems like every website I search has a slightly different number.

This is the invoice price I came up with, is it correct?

    $31,707 (base) + $835 (destination) = $32,542

If that is the correct invoice price my deal would be $3,094 below invoice?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    edited July 2016
I see my issue yesterday - there was a $600 ad fee getting tacked on to our numbers. I just tried a different Sacramento zip and came up with "Unavailable" for ad fees.

    So, your numbers match ours.

When looking up invoice prices here and at other sites, the destination charges can be confusing. We list that fee and then add it with any other fees (like those pesky ad fees) to get the total price.

So invoice/destination of $32,542 minus your selling price $29,448 is $3,094.

    Nice deal!

Trying to buy an Accord LX with sensing or Accord Sport with sensing. Cannot get email price quotes from dealers, much back and forth with offers at invoice with "free" add ons. What should my target price be in North Carolina market ?

I am trying to buy a 2016 Accord EX-L in NJ
Emailed dealers for quote received a few only

    The best I got is $23,898 + 835 + TTL

Is this a good deal or can I get a better one ?

    Any guidance would be appreciated.
  • surlavrissurlavris Member Posts: 7
Bought a Accord Sport without sensing for $21460 + TTL in Schaumburg, IL 60194. I used the $750 Dream Garage code and OTD price was $23632.
The dealer charged sales tax on the $1000 dealer incentive he receives, but not on the $750 dream garage code (considered as down payment) to arrive at the final price.

2017 might roll out soon in August.
  • low_ball_88low_ball_88 Member Posts: 171
What is he dream garage code, how does one qualify for other?
  • surlavrissurlavris Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the forum for sharing experiences and price.. Here is my price breakdown for Accord Sport,
    price + destination = $21460
Dealer added accessories (wheel locks, splash guards, trunk tray) = $600 (I tried to reduce, but they didn't budge)
Electronic filing, deal doc = $194
    Dealer incentive(taxable) = $1000
    Taxable Sale price = $23253
    IL Tax(7.25%) = 1685
    County tax, plates = $443
    OTD = $23253+$1685+$443 - $1000 (mfr dealer incentive) - $750 (dream garage off) = $23631

@low_ball_88 $750 off Dream Garage code was a Honda May/June 2016 Facebook promotion that ended fast, code was redeemable till 6/30/16.

@baler32 I received the following lowest offer for Accord LX (no accessories) in IL zipcode 60194

Just bought a 2016 Accord Touring in Modern Steel in No. CA

    MSRP: $35,515
    Base: $31,707
    Dest.: $835
    Invoice: $32,542

    Sales Price: $29,388
Accessories: $425 (Mud guards, trunk tray, and wheel locks)
    Total: $29,813
    Tax: $2,540
    DMV Reg: $325
    Doc fees: $80
    Tire fee: $8.75
    Military rebate: -$500
    OTD: $32,267

The dealer pulled a fast one on me when I got there with overpriced installed accessories at $695. Could not really walk away so I negotiated as low as I could on the accessories down to $425. Still felt that I paid too much for the accessories. Oh well, I guess the sales price kinda made up for it but it could have been an even sweeter deal. Beware of dealer installed accessories.
  • tonyg2016tonyg2016 Member Posts: 737
you chose not to walk away; who stopped you?
anywho, the accessories are worth about 250 or so BUT your price of 29.4k is very low so it's a wash
    overall a very good deal

The 45 minute drive to the dealership stopped me since I had no other offer remotely closed to it. Also, I was going to buy 2 out of the 3 accessories afterwards anyway.

Wondering if anyone has a answer to this question, I purchased two Hondas a couple of days ago an Accord and a CRV. The wife and I have excellent credit and asked for the .9% and 1.9 %financing special. So though we qualified the sales manager said he would not give us these rates unless we paid a certain amount for each car which in hindsight was over the average price. Does anyone know if this is ethical or acceptable to use an advertised interest rate from Honda which we had credit worthiness for as part of the price negotiation? Thanks
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    edited July 2016
Doesn't sound ethical to me. Ethics often has little to do with legality though. The dealer is probably going to say you got the rate and that the price paid was a separate transaction.

Maybe writing a Dealer Review would help. You could also complain to Honda.

Sometimes there is a bonus that the captive finance company gives the dealer o get customers to finance through them. I don't believe Honda had this last month but who knows. What did you end up doing? I would double-check all your paperwork from this scummy dealership...
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
We typically recommend that people get qualified at their bank or credit union and then invite the dealer to beat the rate. That keeps the dealer honest - dealers usually get paid for putting loan packages together whatever the rate is.
  • kevina1kevina1 Member Posts: 11
So it can be confusing. Honda corp advertises the rates so you assume that Honda financing and the dealer are two differant entities. The dealer charged $500 for each car for a finance paperwork charge I asume they make money on this, the car price I assumed was a separate matter.
  • kevina1kevina1 Member Posts: 11
So to answer what we did we purchased the two cars. We swung by after work on a whim and did not do our homework. The salesman was staying late and kept leaving to call his wife so we let ourselves feel rushed. I only checked the true car price after signing the paperwork and realized we paid above average for both cars. The saleman said he was giving us a good deal since we were purchasing two cars.our mistake. This dealership in stratham New Hampshire does not get great reviews so I should have gone in better prpared.

    Brian125,

I am shopping for an Accord Sedan LX without sensing. I am in the intermountain west (Salt Lake City). Most similar deals on this forum have price of $19,200 to $19,800 includ. destination fee. With taxes and fees most are out the door between $21,000 and $22,000.

    The salesman I have purchased five other cars from at Stockton12 Honda quoted;
    Price including destination fee: $20,653.46
    Taxes: $1,455.73
    Dealer fees: $540.91

    Total out the door: $22,650.10

I have never been allowed to walk away from a sale by this salesman before. He has made a better than average deal on previous purchases. The difference between us was too much however. Is the regional difference that great? I think I should have been able to get the car for less than $22,000. They turned me down at $22,200 even though I set my limit at $22,000.

Needless to say I am upset at this salesman who I have been loyal to. Is this truly as low as he can go in the intermountain west or should I cut ties and shop around?

PS: sorry about the previous half post

Your area and market pricing on Accords cant match pricing you been seeing in this forum. Unless your willing to travel to CO. Make your best deal at months end with 5 or 6 area dealerships. Your quoted deal that I broke down is $1239 below dealers invoice minus dealer fee's of............... $540.91.

How much of the ( $540 ) is dealers doc fee charge? Minus doc fee charge off the 1239 #. That may be your only room to negotiate further with this dealer. There is no harm or foul to ask other dealers to meet yor asking price for a immediate sale. Check out my link of dealers that have good reviews in Utah. Email / call them

    http://www.dealerrater.com/directory/Utah/Honda/?__v7=1

Your Salesman has a bottom line number its not his call but management who set price guidelines.

I would call your salesman thank him for his prior sales service and drop him a final reminder that your calling other Utah dealerships and presenting your offer of 22k OTD to them. Who ever meets your price Today or by the end of this month gets your business. Make your best deal at months end noting you did all you could to save a few more $$$$$

    Good luck

I Got my new 2016 Accord EXL with Navigation and Sensing (Kona Coffee Brown) on July 2nd.

$26,126.00 (Base price $5,379 below MSRP)
    $169.27 (Doc Fee)
    $1,341.06 (WI Sales Tax)
    $150 (Plate & Registration)
    -$1,000 (Odyssey Loyalty Rebate)
    -------------
    $26,786.27 (On the Road)

I think this was an awesome deal. I had decent offers from multiple dealers in Chicago area. I wanted Kona Coffee so had to go about 70 miles (but that dealer had the best price too). Also I got the car without any accessories. The Dealer was Honda on Grand (Elmhurst, IL). Did all negotiations remotely and everything went pretty smoothly at the dealership. None of the local Wisconsin dealers came within $1000 of the price.

    Hi all:

Would love some opinions on this...Was looking at a 2016 EX-L was just over 5K miles on it. The dealer (in Fairfield, CA) quoted me $24,991 + taxes/fees/etc. I had told the dealer that while I would love a fresh-off-the-truck EX-L, the price was *just* out of reach, and I thought that this one with the 5K miles on it would bring the price into a "doable" range. Then, before I even make my decision, I get an automated e-mail a couple of days later from the dealership saying that the car was no longer in stock. I e-mail the representative to confirm that it was gone, and she replied and said that it was. She asked if there was anything else I might be interested in, and I wrote back and said basically what I typed above--that, while we'd love a totally new EX-L, it was just out of reach price-wise. I was fine with it and figured that it just wasn't "meant to be." Then, less than 15 minutes later, I get another e-mail from her saying that, lo and behold, she had a totally new EX-L in the color I wanted and quoted me $24,958.67 + tax & license fees...a hair less then the CPO one we were discussing earlier! So, here are my questions/thoughts/concerns:

    1. Why/how did this completely new one magically become available now (and I wonder why this offer wasn't made beforehand)?
    2. I am worried that the dealership is trying to lure me in with this quote and then, when I get there, they'll say something like they misspoke and that the actual quote is higher.
    3. If the quote is legitimate, it is for the EX-L without any accessories added. We'd be interested in getting the all-weather floor mats, trunk liner, and splash guards, but I don't know whether to just get them online or if I should push to have them included at no extra cost.
    4. If the quote is legitimate, is it a good quote? Again, this is for a 2016 EX-L from a dealership in Fairfield, CA.

I'm not that great when it comes to negotiating, etc., so any and all opinions/feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Forgot to say that I had asked for the OTD price in two separate e-mails, and I haven't gotten it yet. After the first request, the dealer e-mailed back and just asked if I was OK with the quote. I responded and said that she hadn't addressed my request for an OTD price showing all the fees, etc. I have yet to hear back from her after that e-mail.

    1- Buy new,
2- 2k to $2700 below dealers invoice should be your target range in CA to buy a EXL model.
3- Buy accessories online its cheaper. Adding those accessories will complicate your negotiation process
4- Read thru prior postings on CA deals and pricing.
5- Buy at the end of the month

Thanks, Brian! Like I said, I'm not all that experienced in this whole process, so I appreciate the help. :-) This may be a stupid question, but I just want to confirm...when you say 2K to $2700 below invoice, you mean before taxes, fees, etc., correct? What should I look for amount-wise in terms of those taxes, fees, etc.?

    Thanks again!

Bought after getting 6 quotes. Best quote in NC below. Does not seem as good as other deals on this forum but was best I received in a 250 mile radius.
    Accord Sport CVT
    Price: 22,101
    Incentive -1,000
    Dealer fee: 600
    Total: 21,701
    TTL: 694
    OTD: 22,395

This was in Raleigh, NC. How does this compare for the area. Seemed very high compared to others on the forum.
