I saw an Infiniti PR on LDW this week - at the bottom it said there are 172 Infiniti dealers.

The EPA does gas mileage testing and estimating, not the car manufacturers. For all of you concerned about gas mileage, it will get better! Infiniti engines usually take about 5-6000 miles to begin to get better gas mileage. I am now getting 17.8 in suburban Atlanta with very little freeway driving. :)

With about 1800 mi. on the car, mostly city driving, I'm also getting 17.8 mpg with my M35 Sport.

    Scoop4,

I remember you saying you have a treo 650 & will be testing connectivity real soon. How did it go?

I had a chance to try a 650 on my Crimson Red M35. It connected & before making a call, would disconnect. Same thing happened several times, never able to make a call. I do think this phone did not have the latest firmware upgrade.

Aha ... another crimson! Mine's sport/tech/journey/aero ... as posted earlier, love it.

Who's the provider you got your Treo 650 through? Verizon doesn't yet have it here but will shortly. Sprint has it, says it's compatible, but Infiniti says spring has NOTHING.

You should have 14 days to return it, no questions asked. I'd sure take it back and try another tack.

My dealer had a package for a grand, down from $1800 when I balked. Included window tint ($400 if I got it myself), paint and upholstery treatment (allegedly requiring no annual "detailing" but I'll do it anyway), a set of new tires when the car's turned in in 39 months (that should be about when the tires will be worn down to unacceptable, ~ 30K miles), and full coverage for any body dings or upholstery damage upon return. Also includes the gap insurance. The window tint and tires alone made it worth my while, so I opted for it. Another $25 per month and I'd have that expense anyway ... Bart

With 2200 mi on the M35 my last 600 mi trip, 90% freeway at +70 mph, was 24.9. Car runs great.

For a shot of it, check out http://users.adelphia.net/~captnorm/m35/front-60.jpg, then http://users.adelphia.net/~captnorm/m35/rear-61.jpg

    Also sport/tech/journey

I just went to a local Sprint store, an employee just got a 650. He was curious, so came to the car for 10 minutes. At Sprint have 30 days to return.

I also wrote Infiniti, they said keep checking the bluetooth web page. Nothing new.

I'm a few days away from needing a bluetooth phone for an M35. I've searched this forum and got some info of some compatibility to a few bluetooth phones.

Question: Has anyone found a phone that uploads the phone's contacts to the car?

Question: If you get an incoming call (with a known phone number in your contact list), is the caller id displayed (just number or actual name)?

Question: How is the quality of the other person's voice? I paired up a Motorola and it sounded awful!

Please specify the model of the phone & the provider.

    Thanks,

    Norm
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
The V710 (Verizon) will not upload the phone book. However, if the incoming call is a stored number in the car's phone book, the name is displayed (otherwise, just the number).

I think the clarity is typical for a speaker phone. Others don't seem to like it.

As to the BMW 3 discussion: I had a 328i that did fine in the winter (MI) with the all-season tires. It just takes a little practice when the roads get icy. That said, my current M is a lot more fun to drive (both felt like they were on rails). I also did not have any major problems with the 3.

Just got my M35x- Twilight Blue, Wheat interior, Journey, Tech- all I can say is WOW
  • scoop4scoop4 Member Posts: 40
I just picked up my M35X this afternoon and the salesperson tried to get the phone to sync via the bluetooth, but was unsuccessful. He said that there was a software download at the palm web site to make it work. I haven't had the chance yet to play with the phone but will do so this weekend.

Overall I love the car. It's so loaded (I got the tech and journey packages) that it will take a few weeks to get fully oriented.

One thing to note. I did notice when driving home at highway speeds a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I called the service rep and he said that sometimes the new cars get a slight flat spot on the tires if they have been sitting for a while. He said to drive it for 1000 miles and see how it feels after that, My previous car was a BMW 528i that was always very smooth on highways. The tech also said that the M35's 18" wheels and tires give the driver more road feedback than the 16" I had on the BMW.Has anyone else experienced this sensation. Mostly at the 65-75 MPH range.

I too have an M35x on stock 18"s and can happily report that I have not experienced any such vibrations (knock on brazilian rosewood). The car runs smoothy at any speed (haven't taken it above 100 yet.)

If the car really did sit for a long time without the tires being overinflated to prevent flat spots, then yeah, you might have flat spots. On the other hand, it could just be that your tires are still grossly over-inflated. I would get it checked out immediately just to be sure it's not a manufacturing defect.

What are your RPMs at 80mph? I'm at 3000 even. What are you guys experiencing?

According to my reading of this (and other) information, I believe that the Manufacturers actually perform the tests, according to EPA specifications. They submit the results and supporting data to the EPA.

EPA does perform some tests – a small percentage, last I knew – partly to verify the accuracy of the manufacturers’ data.

EPA does have Enforcement Agents that can inspect facilities, etc.

Believing that “getting caught” falsifying and publishing EPA numbers would be something manufacturers would not risk . . .

Yeah, the 3000 RPM at 80MPH sounds correct (the 18inch wheels would do 754 revolutions per mile, and based on M35's gear ratios this translates to 2983 RPM). . Wish it was in the low 2000's (like my Honda Odyssey which does 2050 RPM at 75MPH)

How is the road noise level in your M35x? I am close to deciding on M35, but being the first year of entry, trying to get some feedback before putting down 45K.

The inventory in Northern California seems relatively stable in contrast to your numbers from the South. Of the 12 dealers within 150 miles of San Jose the total number of M cars and the total number of M35 (non sport, non X ) in inventory for the last 5 weeks is:
    5/6 156,33
    4/29 150,28
    4/22 153,29
    4/15 162,28
    4/7 165,29
  • richcreamrichcream Member Posts: 205
The road noise is negligible, really a non-issue.

I wish there was a 6th gear for high speed cruising at lower RPMs but the engine does produce a nice growl and it's only markedly audible under hard acceleration. After all, the car is 4,004 lbs...a lot for a V6 to haul, the fact that it does it so well is impressive.

According to the article in the current C&D, the hybrid vehicles are expected to capture about 3% of the total car market within the next (don't remember but let's just say) 10 years. Some of the car companies execs call this number too optimistic. Reasons given were that the additional cost of manufacturing a hybrid is not fully abserbed by customers, there is still no true visibility to how long the batteries will last and the fact that you and only marginally better mpg on highways...Also, unless you drive a lot of miles, the upfront cost of a hybrid is hard to offset by savings in gas consumption, especially when people change their cars every 2-5 years. I personally wouldn't pay extra for a hybrid but would probably consider one for the same price. From a japanese manufacturer that is...
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
What will be very interesting to see is how people will react to the hybrid Camry. Accord sales continue to slide, hybrid or not, but the Camry is doing astonishingly well. Through April of '05 they hold the bronze medal for 3rd best selling vehicle in the US, now comfortably above the Ram. How the Camry hybrid is received by the public I think is really going to determine wether they will continue to be niche market cars and "feel good" options on Lexus vehicles, or an actual option for mass market cars.

Just ordered by M35x last weekend (didn't get a chance to post till today).

    Premium
    Aero
    Chrome
    Trnk Mats

~ $2800 under MSRP (with Tint thrown in)

    Infiniti of Scottsdale in AZ

Not looking forward to waiting 2 - 3 months, but glad that I finally made a decision. Can stop spending so much time doing all the research. :)

    M45 Sport - 2200 miles - 70% city, 30% highway - current overall average 18.3MPG

M45 Sport, 3000 miles, 60% highway, 40 city, overall average 19.0. Confirmed computer estimate was accurate. Most highway driving is at 80 mph

Thanks for the suggestions. I called both the service contact and my salesperson at my Infinity dealer and they said for me to drive the car for at least 500 miles to give the tires a chance to settle in.

I did check the tire pressure and all tires were at 35 psi. I only have 180 miles on the car and will do some additional highway driving this weekend. Part of the problem may be my getting used to feel and the lightweight aluminium suspension of the Infiniti as opposed to my previous 5 series BMW, but I don't recall the drive being like this in the test cars I drove before buying my M35x.

I showed the car to some of my friends I golf with and they were very impressed and a bit envious. Aside from this, I absolutely love the car.

Scoop4: You're being spun a line of drivel by either a liar or a dope. Flat-spotting of tires was an issue in the era of nylon tires and is almost unheard of today. In addition, REAL flat-spotting is gone within minutes and is NOT speed dependent. (Anyone who tells you it may go away in 1000 miles can qualify for either of my two category types mentioned above.) Take it back and get them to make it right ... immediately. There's something not quite right in your car and I wouldn't accept anything short of complete and immediate resolution. Could be something as simple as bad tire balance, but there are more serious potential problems that they're obligated to resolve. If they can't get rid of it, I'd go up the chain of corporate command. And it's permanent, you have the lemon law to fall back upon. Remember: NO car is designed to have a front end shimmy at ANY speed. Bart

I called the service rep and he said that sometimes the new cars get a slight flat spot on the tires if they have been sitting for a while.

After sitting for awhile? A brand new model hot off the boat and out of the showroom and he says "sitting for awhile"? I rest my case. Bart

wadams: I got my M35 sport w/ tech, journey, and aero from Infiniti of Tucson. They have a monopoly here .. yet I still got my car with a similar discount to yours and it was delivered off the showroom floor a couple of hours after I told them "thank you but no thank you". I didn't/don't want or need an "X" car ... and in a climate that's sans snow, why spend more $$ for an X-car?

I'm not inclined to wait after making an order. I want it NOW, or potentially never.

    Bart
  • wadamswadams Member Posts: 5
It's nice that you could get what you wanted from the dealer. They did some searches for me, and nobody had the exact options I wanted. I'm not in any big hurry so the ordering wasn't a big deal. As for the X factor, I usually keep my cars for 7 - 9 years, and who knows if I'll still be in Phoenix then. Plus a little extra safety never hurt.

I probably could have gotten a little more off MSRP, but this was the first time I ever really negotiated for a car, and I don't think I did too bad.

I interested in buying a car in the Philadelphia, PA area (m35x). Anyone have a feeling for what dealers are being flexible and easy to deal with?

Something's goofy on this thread. I wrote post #2601 the first day I visited this board, certainly before April 15 ... and it shows up again as posted on 5/6 at 11 PM! No harm done, but it helps explain why I have trouble finding posts I'd like to re-read. Bart

Deal ?? In the South what you see on the sticker is close to the price you will pay.I'm getting 500 to 900 off a M35 with Journey. Have a 03 I-35 that I have enjoyed . Looking forward to getting the M hope I'll like it as much.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
My M35 sport hasn't seen a freeway yet, and in 100% local driving I'm getting 17.7 and don't yet have 1K on it. That's almost exactly what I was getting on my Caddy. Bart
  • scoop4scoop4 Member Posts: 40
I took my M35x out today and at 80mph the tach was reading 3200. We have a Northeaster headed our way so there was a little more wind than normal. Road vibration has improved. Part of the problem my be that I'm used to the ride of a BMW 5 series and the suspension of the M35x doesn't dampen the ride quite like the same way. In some ways it rides like a BMW 330xi.

Have any of you experienced any other break in issues of your new car? Someone had mentioned that the catalytic converter emits a smell when the car is new.

Here is the response I received this morning to a post I made on the PalmOne forum regarding compatibility of the Treo 650 with the M35x. I still intend to download Palm's car kit to see if I can get partial compatibility. I suggest that current 650 users and those who want to buy one express their dissatisfaction with Palm over bluetooth compatibility,

    PalmOne forum answer:

The short answer is that the Treo 650 is not currently compatible with the new Infiniti automobiles (I have a 2006 M35 which is supposed to arrive within the next couple of weeks-- tested a showroom model with my 650-- it choked). You might want to do a search in this forum on Infiniti and BMW to see the fairly extensive discussion of this issue over the past month or two. Some opinions have it that PalmOne will 'eventually' issue a new driver (car kit) for the Infiniti, BMW, Land Rover, etc., but there is no certainty of this. What's particularly discouraging is that many other cell phone manfacturers (Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola, etc.) have phones that work just fine with Infiniti, etc.

    You will love it!
Had mine for 3 weeks now and absolutely cannot get enough of it.

    I wanted a 2004 corvette, a H-D Low Rider and maybe a sport UV---with this car I get all 3---wow!

    Just wait.

    OK,

$$$ is not an issue if I go M45 (non-sport) w/ journey & tech OR M35X w/ journey & tech. The boss wants the security of AWD, i tend to lean towards the bigger engine. Today I drove the M45 sport and thought its just too firm a ride for my daily driving (I put on appx 25K per year). I'm trying to find a review of the M35X which posts some performance stats - anyone have any info and/or links? Also - what kind of mpg are you guys getting w/ the AWD?

    Any input is appreciated!

    Yo Brodie,

I am always thinking about options--

#1-I'd rather fully fund my Investment account or retirement plan with the extra $386 per month ($1015 - $629= $386) that I don't have to pay for the miles I don't drive. I am sure that my return in them is much, much better than the 4.8% rate I am paying to use Infiniti's car for 39 months.

#2--I leased it because I've never owned an Infiniti or a foreign car for that matter--I've had (6) Cadillacs in the last 20 years--some leased, some purchased---some new--- some 2 years old--It took quite a leap of faith for me to get into a foreign car to begin with. Actually 2 of my clients have owned Infiniti's and have raved about them for years.

#3-A certain safety factor in that if I want to buy the car at the end of the lease, I have the option to buy it OR I can just re-lease or buy another one then if I still oove the car in 3 years.

#4-I write off 90% of the payment as I am self employed and drive only 1/2 mile to work--most of my driving is to client homes/offices.

#5-Your use of math is a bit tainted unless of course you factor in the pleasure factor of being able to drive anywhere whenever you or your job takes you--then, I guess you're correct in that your avg. cost per mile is lower than mine---I wonder what the value of my car will be in 2 years with 12,000 miles on it compared to yours with 60,000 miles on it. Then and only then will we be able to see what the true opportunity cost is between us and the way we drive.

PS--You didn't mention what your residual is at the end of your 24 month lease--That's the X factor to see who get's the better end of the math quoram you've mentioned here.

I still love the car though--I mean I wish I lived 15 miles away from work so I could enjoy it more! But theres a heck of a difference between pleasure and mathematics.
  • drockholddrockhold Member Posts: 34
    Yes!

I am getting about 23 MPG on the highway--driving about 70 mph most of the time and about 15 mpg in the city---I have operated the car for 3 weeks now and absolutely love it.

The m45 's ride was much stiffer and the tires were a little too slick for me for winter driving--factor in that I would've had to get other tires and maybe rims for the winters here in NW Ohio and my mind was easily made up to go with the m35x---softer ride no tire hassles and all -wheel drive too.

Hey I live in a 1 horse town but you should see all the looks I get when I stop at the only stoplight in town too!

Let's face it --if you want total performance--IMO the m45---if you want flexability and some still great performance then IMO the M35x would be a good bet too!
  • I have an m35x with approx. 1200 miles. I also have a slight shimmy at 75-80. It was worse and is a bit better now. Anytime I get a new car I wait for 1000 miles before I decide to get service. I had the same shimmy on my 2004 530i and an 2001 Audi A6. It may be just my experience, but Goodyear tires give me the most problems. After 1000 miles, I am pretty convinced that the right front still needs high speed balancing. Unless the shimmy is really annoying you or is creating a dangerous issue, drive the car 1000 miles then get the tires balanced if it is still noticeable.

I commute in my M45 Sport 25 miles eacy way daily. I have no issue with the firmness or noise some report with the sport version. My tires are inflated at 34 psi cold and this car is a blast to drive conservatively on the freeways or to let it rip and run it hard in an open spot or open road. I didnt try any of the M35 products as this is replacing my 2002 Q45 and I am addicted to the V8 performance. However, my wife has the G35 Coupe with the 3.5L engine and it runs great too. The key to me is the sound of the engine and the added shear power and performance in the V8. But it is all a matter of personal preference and priorities. I am pleased I got the M45. Take care

Scoop Doggy Dogg: I turned in a BMW X5 and leased an M35x. I also test drove the hell out of the 530 before making my decision. Let's settle this issue right now--there is no question that the M is a "louder" car than either the X5 or 530, or even the 3 series, for that matter. The M's engine noise doesn't bother me a bit, and the M35's cruising engine noise is reassuring, if anything. What I don't like is hearing a lot of the road and tires, and the Bimmers were measurably better in that department. I think the M's road noise is a combiunation of the 18" all-season Goodyears (some serious rain grooves) and maybe not enough noise dampening materials used in the wheel area. The M's ride is also substantially harsher over rougher pavement than the Bimmers (obviously the suspension is designed for more feedback, but the Bimmers had a great blend of feedback and ride quality. I also feel that the sound from my X5's single disc, 10 speaker Alpine was significantly better than my 8 speaker Bose in the M (the middle caliber system that comes with the Journey package). I have not had the opportunity to compare the X5 system to the 14 speaker, top-end, surround sound Bose in the Ms. I understand that once that sytem is properly adjusted, it's amazing.

The M wins out over my former bimmer and the 530 in about every other way I can think of. The interior on the M is so much nicer and more functional, the car delivers tremendous torque and acceleration, it looks awesome, and is just an all-around joy. I absolutely love the M and consider it the coolest car I've ever owned.

If I could sum it up, the things I liked better about my Bimmer than the M are as follows: smoother, quieter ride; better sound system; better heated seats; rain sensing wipers.

The M wins on everything else (I would say the climate control might be a tie--I kind of miss the Bimmer's "super-cooling" AC feature).

I have no reason to BS anyone as I have my M35x for 38 more months, and I'm looking forward to every minute of those 38 months. Although there is more road noise from the M, it isn't overwhelming and doesn't really bother me--it's just more noisy than the Bimmer. I can genuinely say I have NO REGRETS about my decision to get the M35x.

Got a V3 yesterday from Cingular. Been playing around with it and figured out how to send V3 phone book entries to a M35 by Bluetooth. The following are the steps I found that work, once the phone is paired up and have an item in the phone's address book:

    On the car;
    Hit Settings
    Phone
    Phonebook
Scroll to entry # want to add, hit enter
Scroll to Bluetooth--DON'T HIT ENTER yet (give yourself time to setup phone)

    On the phone;
Get to address book (one way is from main screen, hit down arrow)
Scroll to entry want to upload
    Hit Menu
Scroll to Send (bottom one, best to just hit up arrow)
Hit Enter--should see MY-CAR--DON'T select it yet, go back to On the car

    On the car-continuation
    Enter to Bluetooth prompt
    should see >

    On the phone
    Hit MY-CAR
should say > and should get a beep

Car will ask if want to add voice tag...

Worked perfectly for me 6 times. Once you do this a few times, will find can actually complete the car portion then do the phone portion.

I'm actually very pleased with the phone voice quality, better than I expected.

    A few observations:
Can't test this with a 2nd cell phone inside the car. Get feedback with many echoes.

Cell phone signal strength shows up on the car's display--very nice.

Think can't change entry 1--Voicemail. I changed it, went back to Voicemail.

    Very happy camper.

After a hard run in my M35, upon shutdown my engine exhaust system? experiences one or more "pings" similar to different metals expanding/contracting as it cools down. Doesn't do it all the time either.
  • drtraveldrtravel Member Posts: 395
On cool down I always hear what sounds like a small church bell chime from somewhere on the exhaust system (or a heat shield or ???). Happens 3 or 4 times starting about 3-4 minutes after I turn the car off. The dealer and his Japanese engineers will look at it on Tuesday. See my previous posts.
  • johnrbrooksjohnrbrooks Member Posts: 9
I had been struggling between an M35 and the new 06 BMW 3 series. Given that this was my first "cool" car after years of sensible but unexciting cars, this was an important choice. After test driving both in 1 afternoon the Infiniti won out. Here's why. The BMW is a high performance vehicle, but what it does so well you probably rarely do. That is, high performance, high speed driving, cornering, etc. This is not my "normal" driving experience. You can get parity to the BMW with an M Sport. Where the BMW disappoints is the spartan interior, unexciting sound system, and the general feeling of luxury. The Japanese cars are just more plush. Lastly, there's the reliability issue that worries me about German cars. So now that I've decided which car I want I just have to figure out the money aspect. A minor detail...

How do people feel about glare on the NAV screen. I noticed this morning on a sunny test drive quite a lot of glare making it hard to read. It actually seems to be more of an issue that the screen is too high up and needs a hood.
