My M35 was supposed to be delivered with Sirius. It wasn't. Dealer said it would be about 1 month due to parts unavailability and backlog. 1 month has come and gone. Salesman leaves message in response to my call me today saying that Sirius doesn't have the sharkfin in Umbria grey. I call back and he next said Sirius hasn't made an antenna to fit the sharkfin housing. He then tells me he can install XM right now. After I insist that I want Sirius (primarily for NFL and NCAA football play by play), he tells me that Nissan has signed an exclusive deal with XM. I told him I'd wait for Sirius and left it at that.
Lemme guess...your original post was removed for 3 little letters?
As far as the sat radio dilemma, I wanted Sirius, but took XM because I didn't want to wait 90-110 days for the car. I think Infiniti is determined to push XM, and I kinda got that feeling when exploring my options to get Sirius.
They gave me the line about the antenna incompatability too.
Sorry to hear that they're jerking you around. Ask them to discount you the $500 you will spend to have Sirius linked up aftermarket, as it could be a long time before an M with Sirius will be available. From what it sounds like, Sirius is in high demand, so you can bet they'll be charging MSRP for any car equipped as such.
I have not noticed a significant lag with the Moto V710 (Verizon). I also looked for call waiting info...couldn't find anything about switching calls. You probably have to fumble for the phone (as someone else suggested).
I thought the mic was in the overhead control. If it is under the steering column, what are the two sets of slits near the lights and moonroof controls? Is there a separate mic for audio controls and the phone?
I still haven't found any info on battery strength meter. Someone said they had it on the display. What does it look like? I can't find any example of a display in the manual that shows anything like a typical meter (I obviously have too much time on my hands if I can look through the entire manual looking for display examples).
I've had the same lag with Bluetooth on my Acura TL as with my M. I think it is more related to Bluetooth and not to the car itself. Interestingly I have noted it to be less prominent with my switch to CIngular from Sprint.
Actually, it shows the map in pretty good detail. It just doesn't give route instructions or turn guidance. That's kind of silly since it has the map info. Map Quest can get you right to the door. Why can't the Nav system do the same?
I've spoken to Infiniti and the Nav vendor. They tell me they aren't there yet, but may be with the next rendition.
Spoke to my dealer yesterday. Mine isn't the only complaint.
I really feel that for the money they should be as good as a freebie (map Quest) if not better.
The sliding phone is the LG PM-325. I got it a while back, tried it out for 30 days and took it back. Very dissappointed - I could not have a decent conversation with it. The only other option for Sprint is the Treo and that doesn't work that well, either. I would like to see you get the LG, try it and tell us what you think.
M35 - 66 cars (decreased by 10) M35 Sport - 117 cars (decreased by 4) M35 AWD - 24 cars (decreased by 8)
M45 - 76 cars (decreased by 9) M45 Sport - 90 cars (decreased by 11)
It didn't look like any dealers received any new cars this past week so they sold 22 M35s and 20 M45s. Doesn't look like Infiniti is providing enough cars for the demand - their sales would increase if they shipped over some product IMHO.
i thought that as the cell signal strength indicator, as opposed to the Bluetooth signal indicator....it seems to fluctuate the same way the cell indicator does.
I took delivery of my car 1 month ago and was surprised when it didn't have the Sirius installed--I bargained to have the Sirius installed at no charge. I was told at the time of delivery that it would be 2-4 weeks. That time passed. i then was told the multiple stories I related in my post above. I actually feel pretty strongly about Sirius over XM, but I don't know whether I should just cave and take XM or ride it out for another month or two. I would just like to know the real deal and I can't seem to get that from my dealer..
I tried duane salerno infiniti. They didn't try to match Ray centa (~30 miles from me). Neither did my local infiniti circle either (~ 5miles from me). I'm around 60 miles from duane salerno. maybe that's why they didn't take my request seriously but I go up to denville very often since my brothers live up around there. They didn't get back to me when I started to get serious about offers. I had a time frame since my acura TL lease ends right around now. I just turned in my acura yesterday and picked up my M35x yesterday as well at Ray Catena.
I went with Ray catena over Circle and Duane salerno. I don't know anything about Lynne. My sense was that Ray Catena's inventory was much larger than Circles or Salernos. (The infiniti web site lists Ray Catena's inventory online and circles but not Salerno's [at least as far as I could see]) I leased mine so I was more concerned about the monthly and 1st time payment. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice on the window. I have to review the manual in my spare time to figure the other stuff out. Too bad if we can't have the beep with the locking function. The horn sounds loud and slightly rude! I have noticed that the instrument gauge can be difficult to see from certain angles. Oh well, not a deal breaker but I wouldn't mind some slight ergonomic modifications. Acura wasn't perfect but they have very elegant and ergonomic designs. Hey at least the burnt toast smell is gone only after 70 miles.
You are correct. I misunderstood prophet's post. The "raising the bar" symbol reflects current cellular signal strength (I know because of a dropped call when it fell below 2 bars).
Well if you are paying $50K for a car you should be able to get what you want, in fact even if the car is more or less, the same should apply. This is if I read your comment correctly.
-- What am I missing here.. A $50k car and we are worried about the satelittle radio type installed. I must be missing something here. --
Probably you are. Do you think the more you spend on a vehicle the more compromises you should make? Generally I believe most people are expecting the opposite. Of course that is just my point of view. Maybe less is more.
With your phone on in the car and I assume you have paired the phone to the car---well I see the antenna strength when I look at the audio screen--whether I have a radio sation playing or a cd in the player--on the nav screen I see the cell antenna with a strngth indicator--look at the top right hand of the screen when audio screen is up and audio on--it should be there--I have a m35x with journey and nav --I hope that helps.
Yes, I have that. It stays up on virtually every screen and it represents the cellular sgnal strength. My original question is whether the battery strength is ever displayed. But it is not a big deal
"The 1 touch window button is not set up. Instead it has to be held to go up. I may need to have a a tech reprogram the windows (per Ray Catena Infiniti) but I may not care enough to do it immediately. "
My M had the same issue. There is a section in the owners manual that tells you how to enable this. The pre-delivery guys should have done it, but it's easy to do on your own.
TMITCH: Sprint has NO Bluetooth phone that is compatible with Infiniti. NONE. I inquired by e-mail on Infiniti's website last week, Monday I believe, and received an e-mail back from them stating unequivocally that there is NO Sprint phone that is compatible ... I repeat, NONE. I posted the text of that e-mail here last week. I was with Sprint for ages and had to change carrier to get Bluetooth for my M-car. Go to their site ... they'll tell you which phones are compatible ... but unfortunately they don't tell you which carriers are compatible so you need to do a bit of research. If you scan the last 10 days of posts on this site you'll find just about everything you'll need to know reported by several different visitors here. I got the Motorola V710 from Verizon. The RAZR from Cingular works but they're GSM and I'm told by the techies that CDMA technology is better; I love that slick/slim RAZR but because of the GSM technology and Cingular's more spotty coverage here in the southwest I went with Verizon. One of the posters here got a Motorola V551 (as I recall) and it works ... I'm not certain which carrier. Another has installed a RAZR from Cingular. Bart
Sean: Please see my post last week and my followup note to TMITCH a few minutes ago. Infiniti answered my inquiry stating specifically that a) the Treo isn't compatible with their Bluetooth, and b) there is NO Sprint phone compatible with their Bluetooth. Bart
Here's the exact response I received from Infiniti's website last week:
The Treo 650 is not currently listed as an Infiniti recommended cell phone. Infiniti will continually evaluate existing and newly released Bluetooth® phones to help ensure quality operation and compatibility. There are no Sprint products compatible with Bluetooth® technology.
I just hit the Infiniti bluetooth page again and the Sprint phone page again & LG PM-325 is listed on both. It appears Infiniti does support a Sprint phone. I have no idea how many features it does/does not support, but it is in the list of supported phones.
My wife & I have also been with Sprint for many years and wanted to continue with them. I tried a Treo 650 (I currently use Treo 600 for myself) and it immediately disconnected. I have heard that is common. Some phones disconnect right after connecting, for battery life. I've been told even when that happens, the car can accept incoming calls (phone knows a call is coming in so re-connects), but you need to do something on the phone to use the car to make an outgoing call. That was unacceptable for me, so kept searching.
Even though I wanted to stay w/Sprint, I ended up trying a Motorola V3, Razr. It worked perfectly, so I'm now in my 30-day trial with Cingular. It is still working perfectly, not one issue. Voice quality is very good, as good as any speaker phone. I wish the battery condition showed up on the car screen, but think it doesn't show up for any phone. I wish there wasn't that 2 second delay when you call a landline, but it appears all phones have that issue. At first I thought the V3 battery life would be horrible (need to charge daily), but my wife can get 2 full days with maybe 15 minutes talk time/day. The V3 is completely seamless, just like the keyless entry/ignition. My wife keeps the V3 & keyless transmitter in her purse, never takes them out and makes/receives calls automatically, no issues. We decided to keep the ringer on the V3, for the time being.
The only issue I have is lack of Lockline insurance on the V3. I have Lockline on my Treo 600 & it has come in very handy. I did get a very nice response from Lockline, which I could post here if anyone wants to hear it. Better than that, I recommend if anyone wants Lockline on a V3 or other phone they currently don't insure, that they send their own email to Lockline. The more they hear of that need, the higher chance they will include the higher price devices.
CDMA may be better, but GSM is International. There is a lot to be said about the 4 bands the V3 uses, if you go outside of the USA.
I too have the Moto V710 and was wondering how to retrieve voice messages without sending control to the handset. Is there a way to enter "#" and pass codes through the blue tooth connection?
Also, anyone tried to pair the car with a pocket PC (like a Dell Axim X50v)? Are there any services to be shared between the two?
Norm ... I'm merely quoting Infiniti's response to my inquiry. Perhaps what they're saying is compatibility isn't "ideal" and they don't want the hassle of dealing with complaints about phones they don't recommend; I don't know. With respect to CDMA v. GSM, yes ... GMS is international ... but it's current functionality isn't as good as CDMA --- yet. I'm not a techie, but a close friend is right up there with the best of them when it comes to tech stuff and that's his take on it now. He's gone with the V710 on Verizon ... and he spends much of the year overseas on business. If it's good enough for him, who am I to question?
I can retrieve voice messages without sending control to the handset. However, I do have to use the handset to enter the password. The voicemail then plays over the car's system. I don't know of any way of using the car's controller to dial a password, as the dialing pad for the car is disabled while the car is moving.
anyone happen to have the M45 in snow yet??? how bad is it? is it something a little wieght in the rear would fix?
also - i'm between an m45 non-sport and a E500 4matic, both within a few grand of each other (mind you , the merc is a 2005 with 4500 in incentives). anyway, anyone out there with any info /opinions ?
Thanks - that's good to know. Do you mean that it doesn't give spoken instructions, or it doesn't show the route highlighted on the map? In other words, if you have a destination set, and it isn't giving turn-by-turn (audio) guidance, does it still show the route highlighted on the map so you can at least look at it and know where to turn?.
We all know jokes about British cuisine, but I must say some of the best restaurants in the WORLD are in London. The review, I hope anyway, was tongue in cheek and I can't believe he meant to be anti-Japanese (culture). He may not like sushi, but I know people who don't like -- fill in the blank -- that I like. My wife won't eat steak cooked less than medium, I don't like it cooked over medium rare.
Life goes on, to each his/her own.
Apparently there are folks that think this particular Lexus lacks "soul."
That is hardly just a British conclusion -- unless the folks who wrote the articles in Car and Driver are also Brits.
I don't know why your m35 doesn't give route instructions or turn guidance--but up here in NW Ohio--and especially my new m35x with Nav/Journey --mine talks to me--it tells me where to turn and which direction--I didn't program it that way--it started doing it from the moment I drove it off the lot from Infiniti of Dayton--are you sure yours is programmed correctly? Or is your location unique to the Nav program?
Thanks to all of you for the virtual help you gave me in making a decision. I would not characterize myself as a autophile or aficianado in any way. And I hate looking for cars. My problem with leasing is that 3 years goes by fast and I have to go do it again. But with your help, especially the regular posters, this experience was the most organized and informed. My lease on my G35 was over May 8th. So I had to do something. I started with the G35 comparisons and looked at the G35x, Lexus ES and BMW 330. The G35x would have won at that level.
But then I was seduced by the next level car category. I looked at the M, the Lexus GS and the BMW 530. I really went to try the BMW to see what all of the fuss was about. (I get it - it is a great car to drive). I could live with any of them. It really came down to money. The M35x was just more car for less - other things were close to equal going down the pro and con list.
I got Diamond Grpahite / Bourbon Interior - cool on the outside, sexy on the inside. journey, tech, rear spoiler, full spare, splash guards, MSRP 50640. Cap Cost - 47330, (1215 over Invoice) 15k - 39 month Money Factor .00178 no security 59 residual. So it is around 630 including sales tax
I drove to Springfield Mo bypassing the local dealer in KC. Found the car on the infiniti site and was offered the deal. No hassle. I don't like haggling and I am not good at it. We worked through a few additional options and I feel like a got a fair deal with an honest dealer. It was worth the drive.
It's a beautiful car... it will take time to figure everything out. PS. I smelled that weird smell. Thanks to you guys I am not panicking. Take Care
Anyone here having trouble learning the tricks of making the V710 phone user friendly? My wife and I spent over an hour last evening going through the instruction manual and can't find anything that tells us how to enter a voice message. There are instructions for text messaging and for picture messaging, but not voice. I admit to being a technophobe and invoking the emergency "RTM" procedure failed. My wife's pretty savvy about this kind of stuff and she came up with a blank as well. I've got 9 days left to make peace with this phone and if I can't get the hang of it by next weekend it goes back to Verizon and I'll have to go to my second choice, the RAZR from Cingular.
I was with Sprint and my Sony-Ericcson T608 worked well with my M35's Bluetooth. We were on the family plan which was up and my wife wanted Bluetooth so we both got the Moto V551 with a switch to Cingular. They too work well with both my Acura TL and the M. The T608 is not listed by Sprint and will not be activated by Sprint in some areas but are offered, if you ask, in many markets. If anyone wants to buy a T608, indicate so and I'll list email in my profile. Both the Moto and S-E pair very easily with the M's Bluettoth which is very intuitive.
BTW, I'm not sure any car's Bluetooth feature shows battery strength; anyone know?
The wood in the M35 looks like contact paper fake wood. Why don't they offer a high polished wood like Mercedes or Audi. Also, interior way too modern looking. Great performance from the engine though.
I've had my M35x for a week now and the ONLY negative that I have is that it's hard to make a smooth acceleration from a dead stop without putting your foot down hard. This, I'm sure wastes gas. Once it gets going, boy, it gets going!! The car is incredible. My friends and neighbors only want me to take them for a ride (and some strangers whom I've met in front of stores, who stand there gawking at the car). I got the Twilight Blue with Wheat interior. It's a winner!!!

You’re pretty much alone in your view of the M’s wood. An enormous number of reviews have had nothing but praise for the M’s rosewood and interior materials.
The matte finish is considered by many to be more sophisticated than the high gloss finish, which in many people’s view is indistinguishable from plastic. That’s why the new Mercedes CLS (a car costing 10K more than their comparable E-class) offers only Matte in their most expensive special editions.
If you think the M’s interior is too modern then you should probably consider a German car, whose old fashion interiors are well matched to their old fashioned electronics packages, and old fashioned (meaning poor) reliability.
I totally agree that the matte finish looks great. One reason I bought my M35x was the beauty and design of the interior. Every time I went back to look at the Acura RL the wood looked almost plastic, similar to the wood that was used in my BMW 528i that I traded in. The controls and nav display are also far superior to any other car I looked at. When I show the car to friends that are amazed at the interior. JPM

IMO the electronics and Nav in the M absolutely destroy all competitors, and the M’s incredibly winning reviews have, nonetheless, almost entirely overlooked this enormous advantage. That’s probably due to the fact the car reviewers have always been much more interested in driving dynamics than electronics. These days, electronics are vastly more important than in the past, and IMO the M’s superiority would be perceived as that much greater if these factors were considered.
I also agree with you on the beauty of the M’s controls. Its layout is totally logical, and your ability to directly access so much functionality with one click, (rather than searching through on screen menus) is far greater than with any competitor. Not to mention the fact that when you do need to go deep, (or just want to keep your hands on the wheel,) on screen menus can be controlled right from the steering wheel.
Has anyone upgraded the OEM tires on the M35 Sport? Any opinions on changing to Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires. How would they hold up in the snow? How would the M35 Sport with Snow tires prevail in the northeast winters? Trying to decide between Sport and All -Wheel !!
The review of the vehicle was certainly worthy, though the vehicle itself doesn't appear to be.
As for British cuisine, I'm a bangers & mash person myself, with a pint (or two) of bitter. The various pubs & other eating establishments I've dealt with over the past couple of years in the UK haven't left me wanting.
Just picked up my M35X today in New Jersey and love it!! I've got two questions about the the phonebook (sorry if these have been asked already but I'm new to the forum):
1) I've got a Moto 710 (Verizon)- Is there a way to transfer/send my whole phone book to the car's phonebook? 2) I can't find out how to erase or alter an entry I've made on the car's phonebook. What am I not doing right? Thanks .
They just removed the inventory search feature on the infiniti web site.
That does us shoppers quite a disservice--though inventory reporting did not cancel pre-sold cars--which was very deceiving...
I find that Infiniti is really milking this one for all its worth--with high money factors and stiff negotiation tactics. The best most anyone has done in the NJ area is $2500 off MSRP. Have we seen any better deals? If so, where?
I too am enamored of the technology of the M, but as far as the interior goes, I really think the Audi A6 has it beat in a walk. As to the car itself, I took a buddy along with my wife and I to take a look, and he loved the car. He though the waterfall dash was awesome, and the aluminum finish in the M Sport very futuristic. OTOH, my wife did not like the car AT ALL. She though the exterior kind of drab, and the interior busy to the point of distracting. It made me wonder if the M is geared even more toward guys than the typical luxury sports sedan. She vastly preferred the Audi, and even the GS over the M. What kind of reactions have you guys gotten from spouses (girl friends don't count-they'll just tell you what you want to hear

I just hit the Infiniti bluetooth page again and the Sprint phone page again & LG PM-325 is listed on both. It appears Infiniti does support a Sprint phone. I have no idea how many features it does/does not support, but it is in the list of supported phones.

The only issue I have is lack of Lockline insurance on the V3. I have Lockline on my Treo 600 & it has come in very handy.

PS. I smelled that weird smell. Thanks to you guys I am not panicking.

JPM

I couldn’t agree more.

As for British cuisine, I'm a bangers & mash person myself, with a pint (or two) of bitter. The various pubs & other eating establishments I've dealt with over the past couple of years in the UK haven't left me wanting.
Thanks .
