To answer your question msu79gt82, yes, the M35 is very quiet and almost no air enters the vehicle thorugh the moonroof, even at 80. I've only had my car for 400 miles, but I'm pretty sure others can confirm this.
  • varixvarix Member Posts: 72
I have a M35x premium options liquid platinum with 2000 miles on it now and I adore it! Never have driven a nicer car, really a joy to tool around in. I kinda like all the sounds it makes, has a nice feel to it and the noise canceling stereo system does seem to tone it all down a bit. (I do believe the Infiniti web site says it acts like Bose headphones and samples the cabin noise to add canceling sound input)

This is my first "silver' car and now that I look around at other vehicles it seems that silver and its' variants are the color of just about every other car on the road! It does stay cooler in the summer and it always looks relatively clean so I see the attraction. Is it the most popular car color now or are black or white still tops? Don't see too many green cars these days...

Regarding the keyless entry, my wife placed her purse in the trunk as we went to Taste of Chicago this week and every time I tried to close the trunk the car beeped four times and the trunk popped back open. I was going nuts fighting with the car when I realized after about the 6th attempt to lock the trunk that the car was trying to keep me from locking my wife's key fob in the trunk! We took out the key and PRESTO! the trunk locked. Damn car's smarter than me. Scary!

Finally, I've seen posts complaining a bit that the doors don't automatically lock. I know the Swedes (I'm a prior Volvo owner) think locking the car doors while driving is a bad idea and would make it more difficult to extract you from the car if a crash or medical emergency occurred, I guess they don't have carjackings and smash and grabs over there. But I wondered if the car door would unlock anyway for an intruder at least on the driver's side as long as the key fob was in your pocket or the slot making locking the door superfluous?

I'll get my wife to act as the carjacker and give it a try...

and compare it to this discussion:

The Bose system is an intelligent volume/tone booster. Active noise cancellation is different. It applies inverted or reversed-phase noise to essentially blunt or remove ambient sound.

Simply stated, both systems sample background noise, but then AudioPilot works on the music signal while noise cancellation works on the noise.

I do not know what system is used in the RL

This is regarding the question about whether or not it is more fuel efficient to have the air conditioner on with the windows closed rather than air conditioner off with windows open.

The "Myth Busters" Discovery Channel TV show tested this in an episode that I recently saw. They used two identical SUV's, one with the air on and windows up and the other with air off and windows down. They ran them on a race track at identical highway speed at the same time (but no drafting) for approximately 100 miles. If I recall correctly, the air off/ windows down car got about 7% better fuel economy.

    jeff721,

I don't know the number of the TSB, but I'm fairly sure there is one. I took my M35 in to the dealer last Friday for this problem (very loud rattle in the headliner) and it took them until Tuesday evening to fix the problem. I asked the Service Rep if this problem is generic to the M product and she avoided anwsering directly. She did mention that they had just received something (she didn't say TSB) that concerns this problem.

For others reading this it is very easy to detect this problem. If you don't already hear a rattle everytime you hit a rough spot in the road, just tap the headliner just behind the moon roof and it will rattle very loudly.
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
It might not be quite that easy. The M is far more aerodynamic than a boxy SUV. I doubt that the moonroof in the tip-up setting would alter dynamics significantly. When fully opened, it might be a different story.

matt, i'm in a similar boat with a 2000 328ci with 125k miles and was considering the m45. did you get a lease that allowed a lot of miles/year? i think i put on about 20-25k/yr.
  • thenebeanthenebean Member Posts: 1,124
leasing doesnt make much sense if you put that many miles on - the charge for the overage on miles just bumps you up close to the payments you'd make if you bought vs. leased. i'd have them run both for you and you'll see that it makes more sense with that many miles to just buy the car.

    good luck!

Noticed on the main Infiniti M35/M45 page the Luxury Performance Sedans forum is no longer there. Did we get demoted?
  • jrock65jrock65 Member Posts: 1,371
It's under M35, but not M45. There is a limit (6 I think) to the number of forums that a comparison thread can go under.

I test drove the M35x and the Lexus 300 GS yesterday. I still like to DRIVE and therefore liked the M better but had one complaint and didn't know if this was because of the low mileage. The engine seemed very noisy. Any complaints about this out there?
  • bdkinnhbdkinnh Member Posts: 292
A few others have noticed that too (I'm one of them). The M has a high reving engine, which accounts for the noise.

I'm very sensitive to sound (sadly), so I think that will knock out the M for me. Too bad - I love the car - and other than this it is perfect. I'm very envious of people that aren't as bothered by it.

As with anything else, you have to weigh the pros and cons and decide for yourself if it is a deal breaker for you. Most people seem to be OK with it (or not even notice it at all). Did you have it in manual shift mode at all (you may have been in 4th gear), or did you have it in "Drive" the whole time?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Thanks jrock, you are correct - it's listed under M35 but not M45. There hadn't been any M45 conversation for a while and I was asked by TPTB to make a change ... and yes, any given discussion can only be listed under 6 individual vehicles at a time.

I got a message today from my Infiniti salesman that said "All future inbound Infiniti Ms will have a $540 price increase. The introductory pricing is over."

I haven't heard anything about this, and the Web site base MSRP price hasn't changed. Can anyone else confirm this?
  • bp714bp714 Member Posts: 18
Can anyone who has driven both an M35 and an M45 describe the relative noise levels between the two? Is the V-8 MUCH quieter?

Is the V-6 a "good", high performance kind of loud or does it sound like it is straining.

I find I react very differently to a sweet sounding high-revving engine than I do to an engine that has a truck-like roar.

I have ordered an M35x--need the AWD--but these posts are giving me second thoughts.

    Guess I should drive one...
  • mexibecmexibec Member Posts: 114
    > Guess I should drive one...

Definitely. Road feel & noise are way too subjective. Case in point: some find a big noise difference between the M45 Base & Sport (I do), but some don't. Do yourself a favor: go drive one.
  • bdkinnhbdkinnh Member Posts: 292
    More info from my salesman:

"It will take effect on those cars that will be shipped in. Cars already on the ground at the dealerships will be unaffected. So it is on the inbound cars. It will be a bit scrambled as far as pricing until the "old" priced cars are gone."
  • tomc1227tomc1227 Member Posts: 20
The VQ (V6) engine definitely does not sound strained! The noise on the freeway is from the car's exhaust system, not the engine itself IMHO. I was worried about freeway noise from reading this forum, but so far my M35 has not been too loud for my tastes. Are the revs fairly high? Yes. Is the engine so silky smooth that it doesn't really matter? Double yes.
  • oldgrumpyoldgrumpy Member Posts: 11
My salesman told me the same thing on the price increase. All ordered units from today forward will reflect the $540.00 increase. This will make the in stock units more attractive.
  • drtraveldrtravel Member Posts: 395
It's odd that at the top of this page there are two drop down choices for the "Go To:"

Go To "Select Make" - when I choose Infiniti then "Select Model" there is only a choice for the M45 but nothing for the M35. I thought that this was only choice for the M.

Thanks for the info...that makes it all a bit clearer

I finally found the full screen M web site, very impressive but difficult to find through the Infinti web site now. Used to be easy...

M45 Sport, Tech, Journey and DES owner after 6500 miles continues to be amazed by this car. Great ride, acceleration, features, handling, and can be a sport car of a luxury car depending on how I drive it. Miles is running 19 mpg with a 60/40 highway to city mix, although most highway is rush hour with stop and go. Noise is not an issue for me, mine has the bridgestone tired on it.

For those wondering or waiting, make the plunge, it is a great car.
  • rjlaerorjlaero Member Posts: 659
$540 bucks is not that big of a price increase on the M35/45. Audi raised prices $1000 on it's A6 about 3 months after it was introduced last year.
  • sjcbillsjcbill Member Posts: 82
I've done a little more research into this and found out that, for most people it will make no difference. Nitrogen behaves similarly to the nitrogen/oxygen and small amounts of other gases in an air mix as far as temperature vs. pressure increase goes. The primary advantage is that pure nitrogen will have little or no water content which is not true of air which has been compressed by the typical compressor. The water content can cause some small pressure variation with temperature but not enough to be significant.

Aircraft tires are inflated to much higher pressures than car tires and the primary reason for using nitrogen appears to be convenience. It is easier to inflate them from a tank of nitrogen than it is to use a very high pressure compressor. Someone also suggested that water vapor in the aircraft tire might condense and freeze at the very low temperatures experienced at high altitude so nitrogen might also be used to eliminate this possibility.

The bottom line for cars appears to be that it won't hurt anything to use nitrogen but it won't help much either so, if you have to pay extra, just pass.

I found one report of a company charging $100 to remove the air and put nitrogen in your tires.

I was in the same boat AWD or V8. I test drove both cars, I found the V8 to be only marginally quieter, so I got the AWD. I felt that both cars are tuned to higher RPMs to give them more ooomp. I love the car and don't miss my quiet LS430 that never went over 2000RPM. But it I do hope the M will someday tune down the engine noise. Perhaps a 6th gear would help.
  • jrock65jrock65 Member Posts: 1,371
The $540 price increase will only affect the M35, M35 Sport, and M35x.

The M45 and M45 Sport will NOT be affected.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
It's all about rpm's. I love the rumble of a throaty V8 but opted for the 6 because it has all the muscle I need for my kind of driving (8K/year, virtually all local commuting), and I don't push the pedal to the metal as I did 40 - 50 years ago so there's no real engine noise, IMO. Unless accelerating hard, the engine's quiet enough for me and with that Bose system bathing my ears with good tunes I don't notice the engine at all. I believe if this engine was in a GS there would be less feedback from it ... Lexus does a little better job of soundproofing --- at the risk of isolating the driver from the road and I don't like to drive in that kind of cocoon. My car's a sport, and the only real road noise I get is on rough pavement courtesy of the 19" wheels/OE tires ... on smooth pavement there's virtually nothing.

Three months, 1800 miles, and no regrets.

Titillated by a recent poster's experience with GEICO over USAA, I went online to get a quote; first time I've ever questioned USAA's premium structure. I had to call them because the '06 M35 isn't shown in their menu. I got a real live person right here in the good old USA ... actually right here in Tucson ... who gave me a robust "WOW" when I told her I have an M35. Their coverage IS less than I'm presently paying USAA ... I'm pleasantly surprised. Thanks for the tip.
  • ckelly14ckelly14 Member Posts: 105
All insurance companies seem to lure you in with cheap initial rates and increase them slowly over time. I had USAA for 8 years, but I switched when I found Progressive's rate to be 40% less. However, Progressive just raised my rate $150 this year for now apparent reason. Personally, I will be switching insurance carriers every few years.

    Sorry, off topic.

    The M35 rules!

I have the Goodyear Gatorback tires on my new M35X and they're driving me crazy- they produce such loud road noise. For those of you who have switched to the Pirelli's, did the dealer switch them free of charge or will a tire place make me a deal considering that my car only has 500 miles??
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
Be glad the airbag didn't pop if it wasn't essential.

Let there be no mistake. Airbags save lives, but they also cause significant injuries ... the "unintended consequences". In my limited specialty I've seen a half dozen people lose an eye (and one BOTH eyes) from airbag deployments. Admittedly a small price to pay v. permanent brain damage or death, but you don't want them to deploy unless absolutely necessary. The industry's doing its best to make that happen, but there will always be flukey incidents that cause more harm than good. Bart link">
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
Host .... That was my concern, the initial price lure and susequent raises. On more careful investigation, however, I found that GEICO was NOT lower for the same coverage ... USAA remains lower and after 16 years with them I have no apetite for change.
  • a6_to_m35a6_to_m35 Member Posts: 43
No deals. Dealers generally don't change tires for you.

I've leased the car, so I removed the Goodyears and replaced them with Pirelli's. I find the tires to be a really terrific balance between wet and dry--and really great on wet.

When they are worn out (hopefully when the lease is almost over), I will re-install the GY's and give back the car.

Just finished a quick 2400 mile road trip in my M35 and the car ran great. Solid & super quiet suspension, very fast under challenging traffic conditions, and no problems of any kind. I got 23.8 mpg @ a steady 80 mph and as high as 27.2 at 60/65 mph in the frequent road construction zones. After 7,250 miles it just gets better & better as it gets broken in. My kind of car!

I switched from State Farm to Geico back in 1982 when I bought a new Audi and State Farm's rates were ridiculous on it. I've had no regrets. I've only made one claim ( cracked windshield) but it was handled promptly and efficiently. Since then I've also added an umbrella policy with them. I like the 7X24 phone support with no agent to go through.

    Hi,
Did you buy a new set of pirelli's? Or you had the dealers changed the tires when you purchased the cae?
I've just made a purchase yesterday on a M45 sport with Tech.
My very good friend has a 1999 BMW is still trying to tell me I should get a BMW instead. His next car will be the New BMW M3
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
It makes reasonable sense to replace the OE tires if there are better, stickier, smoother tires out there for one's own pleasure. I haven't felt that need. It makes sense on a lease because you've got to give them decent rubber when you return the vehicle and you can put the OE tires back on at lease's end. Unfortunately there isn't that much precision in mileage and wear so you might find yourself wearing out a part of a second set of tires (or third) that are still good enough to turn in at lease's end and then you've incurred an extra cost.

The deal I described in post 3591 ended up being an myth. The dealer (Lynnes Infiniti in Bloomfield, NJ) took a $1000 credit card deposit over the phone for a car he didn't have and couldn't get. I have not heard from him since he called to say that he was "trying to locate a similar car", and he has not returned my calls. If the $1000 charge appears on my card, I will go ballistic.

I did manage to locate a dealer who really did have a car - Salerno-Duane Infiniti in Dennville, NJ. We came to terms and I took delivery yesterday.

M35x Diamond Graphite/Bourbon with Journey, Nav and Trunk Mat
    MSRP: $48,040
    Invoice: $43,732
Sold at: $45,668 ($2372 off MSRP/$1936 over Invoice)

    Lease terms:
    39mo/12k per year
Mult security deposits ($6500 refundable at lease end)
    MF=.00121 (2.9%)
    Residual= $29660.80 (62%)
    Monthly payment= $535.00
    Money Down = $7550 ($6500 refundable Sec Dep + $329.70 Registration + $185.30 fees + $535 First Month)

The 100 mile drive home was a nice "get acquainted" ride. Handles great, rides smoothly. A bit more engine noise than my 8 cylinder Jag S-Type, but that is to be expected and with the stereo on is more than acceptable. The Nav system is light years better than the Denso system in my Jag or my wife's Lexus. I did add air to the tires when I got home to about 38lbs -- I like the ride a bit firmer, and the dealership had them inflated to 29-30lbs.

So far, I really am impressed. In 24 hours I have put on nearly 200 miles. The fit and finish are top notch. Now, all I need to do is get a few coats of Zaino on, and I'll be good to go.

Yes, I am clarifying that the Treo soes indeed disconnect when you finish a call. But heres the strange part - if someone calls me while I am driving the Treo wakes up takes the call and sends it to the infiniti hands free. As I said before however if I push voice command to dial from my infiniti phone book it tells me the phone is disconnected. As for the V710 it works with everything except it does not transfer phone numbers to the M you have to put them in maunally which is no big deal.

The samsung is a new phone PDA with slide out querty keyboard not much bigger than the treo. It is windows mobile 2003 SE has a bigger screen, WiFi, Bluetooth. It is being released for sale 7/5. 599.00 w 2 year contract a bit pricey.

Weird! It should always be on the ready.

I'll take a look at the Samsung ... first one to try it please post. The thing that I find most irritating with these carriers is they have no way to TRY a unit prior to purchase. Even with a 15 day return policy (or 30 in Cingular's instance) it's a nuisance to embark on a path and then find you've got bupkes. Bart

If you have a sprint Treo, run and get the latest bluetooth treo update. All reports indicate that's it's 100% bluetooth compatible, providing pairing; receiving calls; holding a connection; downloading contacts; dialing out with the infiniti address book; and dialing out by voice. It appears that palm has gotten its act together.

As an aside, it also provides dial up networking support (DUN) for a bluetooth connected notebook, allowing one to access the internet on his notebook through sprint's pcs vision, via a bluetooth connection to the treo.

Bart, I do not see a message from this scoop saying his car voice system works. He may have the 650 Sprint unit with update. The Verizon is new and they have not released an update for it - yet!!

Congrats on the car, I have the 35x as well and I absolutely love it.

I can only hope your MPG are better than the 14 or so that I'm averaging, 3,300 miles in!

The V6, from what I've been hearing is actually getting worse MPG than the V8 because it has to work harder, and is geared higher, in order to carry the 4,004 lb frame (the weight of the "X" version anyway.)

I'm sure you'll get better MPG than me though, as I have the lowest reported that I know of (including the freshalloy forum.) In any case, you have an unbelievable AWD system coupled with what is IMO the best car in the class. Enjoy!

You're not alone, unfortunately I'm averaging the same gas mileage and I also have the 35x. In fact, mine may be even a bit worse. I do very little highway driving though.

How did you avoid the approx $450 lease fee? I have a very similar deal ($543/month), but I have the tech package. However, my residual is close to 65% ($31,800). My security deposit was only $5850 (I only had to do 9 months), but my upfront was more because of the lease fee. If you avoided that, it was probably a mistake and you're quite lucky. Every dealer I went to quoted me the same lease fee. My lease is with Infiniti/Nissan so if you have a different leasing company, that may be the reason. Good luck with the car!

CT: Scoop's message is #3645, posted on July 3. I'm still a bit befuddled by all this, and am now looking at the Samsung i730. By the time this is all over I'll be reduced to a dribbling fool. And the moment I make a purchase, something newer and better will surface!

A buddy of mine has two Parrott Easydrive systems ... one in his SL55 AMG and the other in his turbo Carrera ... they both work flawlessly with his V710 so if all else fails there's a fallback position. I'm getting a Parrott for my wife's Lexus GX ... it has no Bluetooth capability, and she's getting my V710 when I get the Treo or the Samsung.

Just got a call from my salesman at the dealership; my new M35 has just arrived and will be ready for delivery in a couple hours!!! It's a twilight blue/wheat interior M35 with the premium package. Ordered it in early April and it's finally in. I'll be adding the rear splash guards, wind deflector and rear spoiler in a couple weeks when they come in off back order. Can't wait to join the ranks of you happy ladies and gents that are M owners!!

I also just got word that my M35 Sport - Graphite on Graphite, Journey, Tech has just arrived (placed order end of May and got lucky).

Was wondering if there was any advice from the group re: "looking over the car" before leaving the dealership. Thanks again for all the postings that made for a very easy decision. Can't wait to get behind the wheel!! :shades:

I just visited my local dealer and learned he has 6 M35, all but two are base models, no options and non sport. He is completely out of M45. He had a ton of G35 coupes, which I also own in addition to my M45 sport. I drove my G35 couple this weekend (wife's car) and must say the noise level in it versus my M45 is vastly higher in the G.

Any others experience difficulties finding in stock M45's at other locations?
