    Hi, I haven't been here since buying my Accord in 2010...nice to see you all again! Looking to buy a new 2016 Highlander, but I can only find this 2015 thread. In any case, through Costco, I have the following offer from a dealer in Boston:
    2016 Highlander XLE V6 AWD in La La Rouge, with all-weather mats and floor liner:
    $36,044 plus tax and fees.

    This seems about $1,000 less than TMV.
    Dealer notes that the current deal is "through Costco, until 11/30, get the 2016 at 2015 price."

    Seems pretty competitive, yes?

    Welcome back @zowzow - we have lots of friends we only see every three years or so. :)

    Sounds good from here, but where are you getting 2016 TMV numbers? All I see for 2016 is the Highlander Hybrid (and it's running about $1,000 below MSRP for the TMV - no where close to invoice).

    I'm guessing you're using the 2015 numbers and yeah, TMV for an 2015 XLE AWD is $37,689, so yeah, looks good.

    Hi. Yes, I was using that 2015 TMV. Thanks for the feedback. I plan to proceed with this purchase and will post again only if there is anything unexpected.

    Just purchased a 2016 Limited Platinum AWD, ash interior, jade exterior. Options included cross bars, trailer hitch and floor mats. MSRP was $46,664, got the dealer down to $44,500 + TTL. This beat the Edmunds price promise price, but is still substantially over invoice. It was difficult to locate a 2016 Limited Platinum with Ash interior.

    Hopefully I did okay on price. This is in the bay area, California.

    Dealer did not have the car on the lot and had to source it from another dealer about 80 miles away. Will pick the car up tomorrow.

    Looks like we have pricing info now. And it looks like you beat the average by $1,000 so you did fine. Especially, I think, in the Bay Area.

    I came up with $42,440 invoice, $46,669 MSRP (I guess I got the options right - that may be a first :) ) and $45,370 TMV. All those numbers include the $990 destination.

    Gonna be a fun day tomorrow. Congrats!

    Looking to purchase a 2016 Highlander XLE FWD with captains chairs. After some back and forth, a dealer quoted me $35,700 +TTL, which after 9% CA tax comes out to around $39,400. Let me know what you guys think? Thinking of pulling the trigger soon!

    We show invoice of $34,766, MSRP of $37,990 and TMV of $36,278. (Those numbers include the destination).

    Your quote is about $500 below the TMV average, so you're doing fine, and it sounds like you are right in line with the other "educated" SoCal buyers posting in here.

    Just got mine a few weeks ago -- had to special order. XLE, Blizzard pearl, Ash leather. Addt'l options: captain's chairs, running boards, cross bars, rear bumper protector, tint on windows, floor mats, and cargo cover. Paid OTD $39,099. In Texas. I keep feeling like I way over paid. Any thoughts here? :worried:

    What's the breakdown of the OTD price? Sale price, taxes, fees?

    It is FWD. $33106.82 + Destination/Handling $950; Captain's chairs $275; Special color $395; Mud guards $139; Mats $235; Crossbars $350; Running Boards $649; Tint $199; Bumper cover $100; Taxes @ 6.25 % and $187.25 in Texas State Fees, $150 in Documentation Fee. All the extras they just play around with the numbers, I'm sure, to make it seem like you're getting a great base price.. :) Thoughts?

    Just FYI... I was looking into Highlanders/Pilots and saw someone's post here suggesting to look into the higher priced 2015 Infinity QX60 which are actually working out to smaller payments than Highlanders/Pilots becuase of the aggressive discounts and MFs. I just ended up getting one yesterday for $8k below MSRP with a 0.00061 money factor. Might be something to look into. Head on over to the QX60 forum for the deals.

    Hi all, I am in Maryland and want to know what is a good deal for OTD price on a 2016 Highlander XLE AWD. So far the best price i have received is 39k OTD. I dont know the exact breakdown of the price but Maryland has a 6% tax and 300 title/registration fees etc. Seems like an average deal or should i push for a lower OTD price? Thanks for any help.

    Just wanted to follow up with the purchase we made today on a predrawn gray xle awd. Price was 35,898 plus ttl, worked out to 38,600 OTD. It also included all weather mats and trunk liner. This was in the dc metro area, hope this information helps others in their negotiations.

    Not seeing anything for the Highlander here. Toyota.com shows a lease deal but that's all.

    Best bet is to get pre-approved at your bank or credit union (or online) and then invite the dealer to beat the rate. Often they can (dealers make money putting loan packages together).

    I just put down deposit for 2016 Highlander XLE AWD with captain chair & floor mats for 35,000 + 349 (doc fees) + Taxes. Total price is 37,600 (after tax) Do you think this a good price in Boston?

    Hi @cool_kk, I get $36,668 for invoice and TMV of $37,708. So your number is $1,600 below invoice. I think that's really good for Boston.

    Just curious if your deposit is refundable. Dealers really like deposits because shoppers quit looking for deals at that point. So if you put up a refundable deposit, you can still keep looking "risk free".

    Dealer gave me a price of $30,845 for a Highlander LE 6 cylinder base model with no options. MSRP of $32965. Is this a good deal?

    Invoice is $30,129 and TMV is just a bit more at $30,505.

    So your dealer about $300 worse than average. There's a deduct for Florida (I used a St. Pete zip), so I'm wondering if you may be able to knock a bit more off and get closer to (or below) invoice. Especially since Toyota is holding a Memorial Day sale. May want to hem and haw a bit unless you want a new ride to drive on the holiday weekend.

    As always, pay attention to the out the door price. Florida dealers are notorious for outrageous doc fees. (I'm assuming you really are a "Florida Buyer", lol).

    Stever, thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes, I am truly a Florida Buyer and we do have some outrageous doc fees (especially on real estate). When I check the invoice price on another site it gives me $31,037. That and the price I was quoted include the destination charge of $950...(900 plus $50 for a Southeastern Surcharge).

    If I lived, say, around Lakeland or further north, I'd go to Tennessee to buy my cars. But I have family in Chattanooga so it's easier for me to say that.

    So not only do you wind up with idiotic doc fees in Florida, Toyota buyers also get to enjoy SET's captive distributorship with their junk fees and charges.

    Ah, gotta love Friday rants. :D

    Hello Stever, I am in Virginia and looking to purchase a 2016 Highlander XLE AWD. I have a price of $38,000 OTD and wanted to see your opinion on that. Also, do you think once the 2017's come out that the price of 2016's will drop?

    H @hitsquad, I get invoice of $36,303, MSRP of $39,675 and True Market Value of $37,103. Those numbers include the $900 destination but no taxes and fees.

    Figuring 6% taxes, that would put the average price paid around $39,300.

    So it looks like a solid quote from here.

    Predictions, ah. :)

    Sales are still on track for another record year, but most automakers slipped some in May. Toyota took a big 10% hit, but mostly in sedans. So prices should ease a bit and incentives should increase. The best deals should come as the new models arrive in the showrooms. Usual disclaimers. ;)

    You may want to ask about the Takata airbag recall. Some new Toyotas are arriving with airbags that will be recalled in 2018 but Toyota refuses to name which vehicles are getting them. (NY Times)

    @hitsquad, 1% over invoice (before tax, fees, but including destination) is about the most you should pay.

    Prices of the Highlander probably will not go down. This is a VERY high-demand vehicle (VERY small number of days inventory on the lots), and Toyota will have no trouble selling them.

    well prices won't be going up - that's safe to say. Since this version of the Highlander was introduced, Honda has come out with a new Pilot, and now Mazda has a new CX9. It's Summer and AWD vehicles sales typically cool down. It's year 3 of the current revision Highlander - it's still regarded to be best in class, but there are other cars that compete well.

    Sacramento California ... I just purchased an Highlander Hybrid Limited Platinum for $50,164, which was about $3,350 below the msrp. Most offers, like edmunds. is $1,000 below msrp

    I didn't see a price for a tailgate protector.

    Invoice is $42,979, MSRP is $47,184 and the True Market Value price is $44,924 (Portland zip).

    So you beat the TMV average by $924, plus you got a great color. Congrats!

    Hey Stever or Anyone. Im in NC around raleigh. Ive flown to Maryland to Fitzmall back in '08 (Corolla) and '09 (RAV 4) to get cars. Flying up there saved me $1500 to $2500 from Toyota costs here in NC. Things may have changed since then here in NC. My question is, Would it benefit me to fly anywhere on around the east coast within oh 10-12 hours driving from NC to purchase my next toyota? And I am looking at the Highlander '16 as my next SUV. And do you know a location to fly to? Thanks

    I used to follow Fitzmall prices more closely. In recent years they have "slipped" - no great shakes on bargains that I've seen, compared to the good old days.

    Got free miles eh? :)

    My guess is that the deals in your surrounding states aren't going to much better than quotes closer to home, but you are in the SET region and likely have more junk fees than dealers in other states do. Honda dealers are still aggressive up in Fitzmall's region, so you may want to float some emails up that way anyway. But my feeling is that Toyota dealers aren't as aggressive up there.

    Toyota's U.S. sales fell 5.6% in June but that's mostly cars and the Prius that are getting hammered. SUV sales are still strong.

    Sounds like you know the drill - email for some quotes and keep expanding your reach if nearby quotes aren't too hot.

    I don't know if you can fly from your smaller regional airport to another smaller airport without going through a big hub like Dulles - since you'll (hopefully!) only be flying one way, even JFK should be manageable.

    Oh @scholarbill, check out Earl Stewart Toyota down in Florida. They have 17 Highlanders in stock today and there's a 4th of July sale event advertised. Other dealers hate him because he doesn't charge fees, but he's a no-haggle shop and usually they have higher prices.

    I have to say.. the Baltimore/DC/VA area is pretty competitive. I've flown there to get a car, and a friend has done the same thing.. BMW and VW.

    NoVA is still great for Honda too. Not as sure about Toyota deals up there as I used to be. Ditto Subaru.

    I'm in northern NJ and have an offer of $37,098 for a 2016 Highlander XLE with second row captains chairs, remote start, and all weather mats/cargo. This is before taxes, title, registration. With 7% sales tax, I would be out the door at $40,411. Thoughts on the deal?

    Invoice is $38,278, MSRP is $41,960 and TMV splits the difference at $39,765.

    Your quote is $1,000 below invoice in an area where Edmunds adds a few hundred bucks for a "regional adjustment".

    Sounds like a good deal!

    Just left dealership in Baltimore, MD. Left a $500 deposit on what I believe is an excellent deal. Please let me know your thoughts. 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD V6 - Black/Black $35,435 (with title, taxes, MVA, etc) total out the door price $38,552. Is this a good deal?

    Dealers love deposits because they take people out of the market and quit checking for deals. Except in cases where the smart shopper still double-checks their numbers. :) Good for you. It's always best to leave a refundable deposit just in case you do find a better deal.

    Invoice is $36,303 (including the $900 destination) and the TMV average is $37,145.

    Almost $900 off invoice (they are essentially giving you the destination free). Sounds good from here.
