Yes, that is correct. Dealer cannot modify the residual, but they can inflate the MF by as much as .00050 for extra profit.

Besides the MF and residual value, you need the MSRP and adjusted cap cost (selling price plus any taxes or fees that you are not paying up front).

1)I am looking to lease a new subaru crosstrek 2016. Is this a bad idea considering the 2017 is coming out next month? What can I expect to happen to prices when the 2017 comes out?

2) is the quote below a fair price? It seems high based on my calcs

.00050 MF and 60% residual for 39/10.
ZERO down? Does that mean you pay nothing at signing? Or, is it 1st payment, etc, etc?

The 36 month numbers are .00120 MF and 64% residual.
All else being equal, the payment would be about $18/mo. higher than the 39 month term.

Down payments aren't the end of the world, but it serves to mask the true monthly cost of the car.
As noted, we recommend against it.

Good reasons we've heard for downpayments?
My wife will only let me spend $300/mo., so if I put $4000 down, I can get a $400/mo. vehicle.

No idea on Crosstrek pricing. Get a selling price or CAP cost, and we can calculate a payment.

Hi, thanks for your help earlier this month. Finally went to dealer & they came back to me with the following: MSRP $29596, Selling price: $26,959. For a 36 month lease with 0 money down,they said 15,000 miles a year the residual would be $17,461.64 and for 12,000 miles a year it would be $18,053.56. The money factor on both is .0008. Is the residual correct? Is the residual based on the MSRP or the selling price?

Hi, Initially, they quoted $354 for 12K and $372 for 15Kmiles with no money down. I wound up putting $1K down and my payments are $318/month for 12K miles. I'm sure they got me somehow but my understanding from two other dealers is that I got a great selling price. I priced the same model but without Eyesight and that dealer couldn't match or beat the price on this model that included EyeSight. Curious to hear your thoughts.
