Unless the car you want is already in NYS, don't get your hopes up for a quick delivery. I have been waiting 8 weeks, and will probably wait 8 more. Lead times are extremely long as Mazda has sold more 3s than they planned.

    Anyway, good luck!

Also... Is it normal for the salesman to base the sales tax on the MSRP and then give the discount off the total price?
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
It may not be the salesman's choice. In some states this is required by state law. I had $4000 in rebates and credits on my last new car purchase, but had to pay sales tax on the full amount. And this was not paid to the dealer, as I bought the car out of state and had to pay the tax directly to the motor vehicle department when I registered it at home.

I am considering a Mazda3 Hatchback with the Safety package (ABS/Side Airbags etc) and the "Moon and Toons" Package (Moonroof & upgraded stereo). I have two quotes from the "Internet Sales Managers" and was wondering if they sounded about right. The best one is about $300 over invoice for the dark silver with these options and the other is slightly more for the sunlight silver ($40 more). Has anybody else bought recently in Oregon? I do qualify for the rebate (college grad) so that would bring it below invoice. Are these good offers and am I likely to miss out if I don't act quickly. Also, any experiences (pros/cons) with working with the internet sales guys vs the normal sales personnel?

$300 over invoice plus a college grad rebate?!
    BUY IT!
  • tweetsmantweetsman Member Posts: 2
I live in Oregon. I received my 3s 4 door yesterday. It's titanium gray, 5 speed with everything, including leather except the navigation system. Paid invoice + TTL. Not $300 over, just invoice. This was an internet sale with no haggling involved. Best car buying experience I've ever had. Can we post dealers and salespeople on this? If so I'll give you the names.

    Great car!
  • tweetsmantweetsman Member Posts: 2
I just read that I can post a dealership name but no salesmen.

Dealership: Murray Mazda & Chevrolet in Gresham, OR. Just e-mail the internet salesman. He told me the invoice price and said any offer above invoice would be accepted. When the car was delivered to me the price was simply invoice.

    Best wishes.

I was the buyer in the Boston area with a similar charge based on location. Since it was on the invoice, I wasn't too worried about it. It sounds like you have the same situation.

My invoice was a web printout too, but it was from Mazda and not the dealer's specific site. As others here have mentioned, the dealers seem to get their invoices from the Mazda USA site so there's not much to be done about that.

Definitely check the PDF on the mazda/ford partner site and compare to the invoice. You shouldn't find any surprises.

This sounds a bit odd: "Also, when he put the purchase price in he deducted $299 as a dealer conveyance fee from the quoted invoice price and then added it back where it was pre-printed on the order form." ... not sure what that's all about, but if it doesn't change your quoted price I'm not sure it's worth losing sleep over.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for telling me about your experience. I am going to contact the Gresham dealer today!

I went to my local dealer this past Friday and made a deposit on a Winning Blue 5 door with 5 speed and the ABS system only. Agreed to a price $ 600.00 over invoice. Any idea how long it will take to find the car in So. Florida.
  • rjisonrjison Member Posts: 3
I went through 4 hours of torture but I was able the get a Mazda 3 Hatchback at the Add Car Price of $14,985! It was last Sunday, and Long Beach had a record setting hot day about 92°F. Everyone was basically at the beach and not the car dealer. It was 3 to one dealer to customer ratio that day.
They dropped the price because I was Adamant about trading in my 2001 Chrysler 300M. They didn't want to touch it because I had it lowered with springs. They lowballed my asking price by $4k, I said no, and after about 40 minutes of sitting around they offered me the 3 at the Add car Price! You know, the car that was magically sold an hour before you get to the dealer or its Mauve or Puke yellow. They again tried to low ball my 300M another $2K, I said forget it and they said, no keep the Chrysler and We'll give you the car for $14,985...Sold!
    Specs: List Price $18,890
Winning Blue, 5 Speed, Black and blue cloth seats, Moon Roof, 6 disk CD changer, Cruise control.

seems you got great price, congrats and enjoy your new MZ3.
  • mazomazo Member Posts: 2
i just wanted to post my "out the door" price i got on my Mazda3. it's a
    MAZDA3 s 4-Door, 5-Spd Manual, 160-hp 2.3L DOHC 16-valve I4-cylinder, BLACK LEATHER, MOONROOF & 6-CD PACKAGE SPORT PACKAG.
no wheel locks or cargo net or anything else. my total out the door price was 18,623.00 US Dollars. hope this helps someone.
my trade-in was rediculous, so i don't believe the made much if any of a profit on that. after coming to this site, cars.com and carsdirect.com, i felt like i got a very good price. also got the 3.9% financing.
I wish anyone else good luck in getting your mazda3 at a good price. maybe this will help guide you.
  • ish2lish2l Member Posts: 19
Congrats on your new 3, I'm waiting for the exact same configuration on mine which should be here in a couple weeks. What state are you in and did you have to order yours or did you just pick it off the lot?
  • mazomazo Member Posts: 2
i'm in alabama. the car was on the lot. i searched the mazda.com site and found it. by the way, nothing added on the loan such as insurance of any kind or anything like that.
the cash and trade-in put my down payment at $3850.00.

Just got home from my local (well not the closest) Mazda dealership. Bought a Titanium Gray 2004 Mazda3 S with the sports package, leather seats, and the ABS package for $17,740 (plus tax and tags came to $19,000). It took some haggling but I believe this was a great deal. The only problem is that the dealer has to locate one for me. Overall a really good experience. Good luck to anyone else out there.

I just signed for my new strato blue mica Mazda3i today. I got these options: 4-speed, power & 16" wheels, ABS, A/C. I paid $329 below invoice, and I qualify for the college grad rebate. When all is said and done I'll be paying $16,738.59. Being that I'm a female and this is my first new-car purchase, I think this is a great deal. Is it?
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Invoice for that is $16,567 (including destination charge but no advertizing fee), so you did good. Did the $16,738.59 include sales tax? What's the sales tax on new cars in WI? Actually it's better to compare the price with all fees included, but without tax (apples and apples).
  • lizzylizzy Member Posts: 3
My before-tax price was 16,238 + $107.50 in fees. Sales tax is 5.5% ($893.09), and after-tax I got the $500 college grad rebate. So I have $16,738.59 due on delivery, everything included. Good deal?
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Yes, you did good. Will you marry me? ;)

Seriously though, you got a good deal.
  • lizzylizzy Member Posts: 3
Wow, I was not expecting a proposal....just some idea of what kind of deal I got. hmmm...
  • poondoggerpoondogger Member Posts: 14
I got invoice on my car. Plus I got $500 cash back rebate. I didn't have to put any money down. I got incredible financing considering I don't really have much credit history. + I didn't have to haggle over price at all. I just walked in, she handed me the keys, I drove the car, came back and then I was talking to finance. I got incredible "Fleet" benefits because my college by some coincidence buys their school busses and work trucks through a affilated ford dealership. So I scored big time.
  • kit71111kit71111 Member Posts: 3
mazda 3i w/ moonroof & 6 cd changer, power & 16" wheels, and abs for 17352. invoice for the car is 17332. is this a good deal?
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
I would go back and haggle some more....you can do better. Maybe the dealer is so desperate they want to lose alot of money.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Hey, we're picking up on your sarcasm. :)
  • foxswimmerfoxswimmer Member Posts: 1
I have my Mazda3 on order with a dealership in LA. Titanium Gray Mazda3 s Sedan, 5 spd, moonroof/6CD, ABS/SAB/SAC, sport package, leather. Can't wait till it arrives! Negotiated a $100 over invoice price on the car.

I noticed that one of the current rebate/incentives for the Mazda3 is $1000, but it mentions something about having a "Direct Mail Certificate". Does anyone know anything about this particular rebate?
  • thejackal1thejackal1 Member Posts: 7
Got mine yesterday afternoon. Mzd3 GT w/GFX and rear spoiler, Titanium grey, 5spd. But I already have to go back to the dealer. 1; They stickered the car when I specified that I didn't want any(Does anybody know what to use to remove the dealer stickers?). 2; They lost the master for the nut locks..! 3; The Air Bag lite is already on!(I'm just waiting for the grooves to appear on the brakes!)
But still it drives like a charm... I love it! And they installed the 2.3 badge on it. And got the spoiler for nothin'. I'm not complaining about the mechanical problems(Air Bag Sensor/ Brakes). I expected them to appear.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
Just warm the sticker up a little with a hair dryer and peel it off. Don't wait too long to remove it though, because after a while the adhesive on the sticker will set up a bond with the paint. The last time I peeled one off I didn't even need the hair dryer.

Sorry, I can't help you with your nuts.

I just got home from picking up my brand spanking new Mazda 3 5 door (Velocity Red). Is it just the color, or did I catch myself going 70+ on the interstate on the way home? Hehehe. This thing accelerates SMOOTH. Anyway, the dealer was an hour away....unfortunately, the closest dealer to Poughkeepsie NY is Middletown Mazda-Volkswagen. But they did OK by me, considering I started off by giving them a choice of options that they just couldn't find. Had my heart set on xenons, but had to settle for just the Auto, Moonroof/6CD and ABS/Airbags. Incidentally, the standard headlights are white enough that I doubt I really needed the xenons anyway.

Paid maybe about $100-$200 over Edmunds TMV...not too bad considering it's not like I can play dealers off each other. The guy at Middletown was great; made sure everything was A-OK, took me on a guided tour of everything in the car before even taking the check. When he was doing this, for some reason the wipers wouldn't turn off...oops. They had to push a fuse back in. Also, they didn't have the MP3 player in yet, so I have to go back and get it installed in a week or two; no additional charge (got that in writing). Gives me some time to shake a few bugs out of the car and get them fixed at the same time, in one trip. I would have waited to pick it up until they had it installed, but I didn't have a car. (Mine died, which started me shopping at an accelerated rate).

Anyway, I'm very happy with the guys over at Middletown Mazda...check them out if you're in NY State. If they can find it and get it, they'll get it to you. So far no other mechanical problems...gee, I should have checked the front wipers again, but I just didn't want to spoil the smile I had all the way home. :D

Thanks for the tip. Will try it tomorrow if its not too cold out. Or I`ll have it done by the dealer(they made the mistake in the first place!)next week...
  • flabuckflabuck Member Posts: 2
Picked up my new winning blue 5 door on Thursday night. $17,600 for a 5 speed with ABS option.
add sales tax and other fees came out to $19,300.
Dealer had to go 140 miles to find a blue one so I wasn't to mad about paying some of the extra fees. I figured it would be a month wait, only waited a week. So far no problems.
  • jrkflajrkfla Member Posts: 21
Looked at a Mazda 3s. however, all the dealers are asking for a "dealer Services fee" for processing, car prep, etc... ; they all say it like clockwork and claim all dealers do it and theirs is lower than most. The 4 Acura dealers in the Tampa area are asking for 399 and 599. I am also looking at a TSX and have talked to2 dealers for that car and they all ask for it as well.? I can actually get a good price on the car, but the service fee of 599 is a joke.

can anyone shed any light here? Are you paying this for your Mazda3 or any new car for that matter. no one above seems to claim to have paid it or refer to it, but then again, every dealer is asking for it, so something has got to give.

    thanks for your help
  • z71billz71bill Member Posts: 1,986
The fees that a dealer can charge are based on local market competition. In Houston Texas area no such fees were being charged by any of the Mazda, Honda or Acura dealers I visited while trying to buy a car. Toyota dealers had all kinds of fees. Bottom line is - if they can charge it many will.
  • mazda6smazda6s Member Posts: 1,901
It's a free market so dealers can charge whatever people will pay. All that really should matter to the buyer is the bottom line, the out-the-door price.
  • mattmann23mattmann23 Member Posts: 3
Hi I know someone has gone to the car cost site and knows how much the invoice price for the Mazda 3 sport With Air is. The dealer in BC says he can not go down in price which is a load. But knowing how much room he has would be beneficial to me. You can email me privately.
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
I don't have the cost info on the 3 Sport, but the 3 sedan GT with automatic shows MSRP of $23,475 including Freight, PDI and airtax; and Dealer Cost of $21,966. I suspect you'd find a similar % spread across the board.
  • jaronson11jaronson11 Member Posts: 2
$18,500 on the road price here in Iowa. That is for a Silver, 3s with everything but the xenons and navigation. Goes real nice with our Black P5.
  • edgaremedgarem Member Posts: 58
I'd agree with bodble2 - they've got about C$1500 on the Sport, a bit on the accessories, plus whatever discounts they're getting right now - which I doubt are very much. Some may disagree with me, but I'm happy with about half of this on a model I want.

Just got word that my car is "At Sea". Not sure how much longer, but it can't be much more than a few weeks, can it?
  • lmp180psulmp180psu Member Posts: 399
I just purchased my Mazda3 Sunlight Silver S sedan for $500 above invoice - $300 over invoice plus a mandatory $200 fee charged to dealers by Mazda for my area. This fee is legit as my saleswoman showed me the official invoice from Mazda with this fee on it :(

    I got the following options:

    Sport AT
    6CD/moonroof
    ABS/SAC/SAB
    Xenon/TPMS
    Sport Package

My saleswoman was professional and knowledgeable from the time of my first test drive in January, through the buying process today. She even picked me up from my apartment this morning ( in an RX-8 :) ) since I live 120 miles away from any one that could take me.

Anyone in the Central PA area, should definitely consider Freysinger Mazda near Harrisburg, PA. Even the F & I manager was low key, and was respectful of me not purchasing any of the "extras" ( may consider GAP insurance though).

Happy to be part of the Mazda family!
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
enjoy your new 3....they are great.

Also, if you didn't have a big down payment or you rolled in a previous loan, GAP is a very good idea.
  • lmp180psulmp180psu Member Posts: 399
    Thanks for the congrats!

I put down $5000 + $1000 in rebates ( no previous debts), and this is my first new car, so is GAP protection still a worthwhile purchase? The dealership is charging $380 +tax for lifetime coverage. I have to call my insurance company to compare prices.
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
Well, accidents of this type do happen, though rare. Just hope you get a significant discount for the water damage! :)
  • lmp180psulmp180psu Member Posts: 399
LOL! But "at sea" sounds a lot better than "under the sea" :)
  • mbennett674mbennett674 Member Posts: 66
    If I hadn't already waited 10 weeks.....

I hope you all get you cars quicker than I do.
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
if you took a long term loan, i.e 60 months and you don't have alot of financial resources then I would take the GAP....cars often depreciate faster than people pay them down and insurance companies are gettng very stingy with payouts....which could potentially leave you holding the bag at a time when you need $$$$ to get a new car...$380 is a reasonable price.
  • wilecoyotewilecoyote Member Posts: 10
Imp, Gap Insurance is typically more of a necessity when your down payment is very low and it covers just that gap between what you OWE on the vehicle and what the Insurance will claim the Vehicle is now WORTH at the time. JMO but I don't see the advantage of wasting money getting an insurance coverage where there will likely (not definitely)be no gap as in your case. Depending on the amount of money you put down (5k) and the Amount/Interest Rate of your loan, and the length of the loan, $5k should likely cover the "gap" which would be the depreciation vs the loan payoff. Check your numbers and see how it looks...

I posted this in the Hatch forum, but I figured I'd drop it here too to see what you guys think...

Well, I went down to my dealer today and put in a transfer order (from another dealership about 30 minutes away) for a Mazda3 hatch! I am definitely looking forward to this - I'm expecting delivery tomorrow afternoon! here are the specs:
    Mazda3 Hatch in Titanium Gray
    auto trans
    ABS/EBD/Side air curtains package
    Moonroof & 6-cd changer
Final price was $19700. Thoughts? Comments? Extra money laying around that you don't want? let me know.
  • npaladin2000npaladin2000 Member Posts: 593
Is that price of the car, or out-the-door price (including tax, tags, etc)?
