On the driver's mat- is that a cut-out around the left foot rest block?

I see that cutout on most of the heavy duty mats. Wish they wouldn't do that.
I haven't bought any "designed for" mats yet because of it. I'm drving around with some heavy black rubber mats that I had bought from Walmart years ago and hadn't used. They aren't molded to fit the floor, but they fit fairly well. Most important though is that they cover every place I put my feet. Catch a moderate amount of water/mud/etc. (Handy for when I launch/recove my sailboat, as I sometimes have to step in water at the ramp.)

Let me know if that really is a cut out around the foot rest block, would ya?

The dealer hooked up running lights for my 05 Taco Access cab (no VSC). My low beam headlights are my running lights. I like that fix because I don't need to remember to turn on the lights for dusk, dawn, rain etc which conditions demand headlights not the amber? yellow? turn signals. Incidently, it's state law in NJ, NY where I drive for headlights to be 'ON' whenever rain wipers are 'ON'. The dealer charged $200. for the hookup. My insurance company gave me a modest credit for the safety enhancement.

Little over 1000 miles w/ the Short shift installed. I've had a "stick" all my life
( 29 yrs. of driving ), and w/ this kit it's the most fun I've had. Yes, you'd be ok w/o it, but it makes a world of difference.
No problems getting into any gear inc. reverse. Again, If you have the 6 speed, get this kit.
    You won't be sorry!!

Yeah, it's cut out around the foot rest. These floor mats do a good job of protecting the carpet. They will hold water and mud and not let it run out on the carpet. I like how these floor mats curve up the transmission hump a little, to protect the carpet near the accelerator.
  • streaksstreaks Member Posts: 64
Yeah, The Toyota all- weather mats don't curve up near the accelerator enough. When your wearin boots, you can rub the carpet. Other than that, I like 'em. Think those mats pb has may be a better choice for those who are looking.

Thought about the short shifter, thanks for the input. My main complaint, is the too long clutch pedal throw, and sometimes jerky engagement. Be nice to see a good kit to shorten that up. URD ?

"I like the redesign of the new tacos.... And ford body styling is a laugh !!"

I like the design of my '05 Taco, but it's a TRD, with the plastic over fenders. I think the standard body isn't as good looking.

That said, I LOVE Ford's F series styling. I find them downright beautiful, just too big, and they're Fords. :P

I think if the next Ranger gets any of the looks of the bigger brothers it'll sell like hotcakes.

Don't have a picture, but any dealership with a Parts Dept should have them. A good place, price wise (which I got off this Forum), is www.toyotapart.com after you decide if you want them. I just bought from the dealer. I have an '05 Access Cab. Bought a set of Mats for an '05 Regular Cab. Put the Drivers side front mat in, and put the other one in the back bedroon closet.
Now you know, kind of a loner...........
BTW, pb2's pictured mats cover quite a bit more then the Toyota brand.

I'm in the process of comparing the Snugtop XV and the Leer 100 XQ. Does anyone have any advice regarding these two caps? If you've purchased either what are your impressions, what would you have done differently? Thanks for your help.

I, on the opposite, like the standard body (I chose a non-PreRunner Access Cab) better than the 'beefed up' overfenders. That was one of the reasons I didn't even want to consider / look at Frontier when shopping for my truck. I hate that abundance of useless plastic the automotive industry is putting on their vehicles nowadays. The only other 'latest design trend' that is horrible (IMO), is the edgy/boxy/crude lines (Titan, F150, even the latest Dodge).

How is that new exhaust doing? How does it sound? Now that it is done, was it worth the $$$?
  • dbt44dbt44 Member Posts: 10
I affirm your statement of "abundance of plastic". I becomes a caricature of a creditable truck. It is the 2005 version of the 1950 fender flairs. They too shell become quickly dated with only nostalgia offering kindness in future protestations.

Has anyone had any luck finding the origin of this noise.
I've seen previous post where some have heard a noise right after cold startup that sounds like, when you hold a card up to the spokes of a bicycle wheel and rotate it.
I recently had the cab mount tsb performed, and since then I have been noticing this strange noise.I hadn't heard it before, but I can't imagine that it is related. Its been a little cooler here and I've been parking outside, wondering if that has anything to do with it?Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'm wondering where in Canada I can purchase good quality seat covers for my 2005 Access Cab.

I checked with the dealer who advised that as far as they knew toyota did not make them and he did not know if/where they could be purchased.

Wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Anybody out there have any experience with the automatic door locks that are part of the upgrade security system. After 4 trys the dealer cant figure out how to program them to work and is now saying that it was a misprint in the manual that came with the system. This is my 4th Toyota truck and by far the best! :)

    Thanks

I have a sirius system but the set up is the same. This device bypasses the antenna and sends the fm signal directly into the receiver. Here is a link as an example http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GiayQcpPbaO/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=251550&I=142FMMOD01

This worked great on my 99 and 06 Taco. There is also an audio output version if you want to use an ipod or such.
  • landscaprlandscapr Member Posts: 8
By all means let the dealer know you are shopping around! I got a good deal on my 06 Prerunner by letting the local dealer know that another dealer in the next town over wanted my business....
  • landscaprlandscapr Member Posts: 8
This link is from the Toyota web site. Look through it and see that Toyota does offer seat covers. I guess the dealer didn't want to be bothered with a sale... :confuse:

Why spend $200 to have the headlights hooked up as running lights? I just leave my low beams on all of the time even though I have the running lights feature. The lights automatically go off when I shut off the key and open the door. I figure if it is dark or nasty enough to need lights in front, lights in the rear won't hurt either. I can't count the number of times I have come up on someone from the rear in the rain and darn near hit them because they had no lights on. If running my lights all the time costs me an extra $100 over the life of the truck, but I never get hit, it was money well spent.

For some reason that escapes me, Canadian Dealers are unable to get most of the TRD accessories that are easily availible south of the border. This includes the custom seat covers for the Tacoma (despite the fact that they all have the Toyota accessory cataloge which clearly shows seat covers). If you want Toyota seat covers you will have to order them from the States. I just ordered a set for my 06 Taco from www.toyotapartsstore.com . Good luck.

    I have an '03 Tacoma 4x4 TRD
I know that the rear suspension is rated for about 500 lbs.

Not only do I find this inadequate, I see many Tacomas on the road with their [non-permissible content removed] ends looking like they're dragging.

I've thought about putting air-shocks on the rear to boost it up when I'm carrying a load... or possibly a set of overload springs. Haven't been able to find overloads. I had 'helper springs' on my last Toyota truck and all they did was help mess up my original leafs.

Anybody out there found a better solution?

Do you have a double cab or did you just order for the front? What I am concerned about is would the rear covers hamper the access to the storage compartments. Any info would be appreciated.
  • vlokvlok Member Posts: 4
I have an '03 Tacoma w/ V6 engine. burned premium at first. When gas prices hit the roof I went to regular. Don't notice any difference.
I complained to the dealer about the very same noise after I purchased it. He had a mechanic check it out and told me that it is the fuel injectors. I forgot about after that, but I don't hear the noise anymore . . its gone.

I bought a Snug Top fiberglass shell over a year ago. Got one with side hatches/no glass.
It looks real nice but its a piece of crap as far as quality goes. It leaks, the connections look cheap, the latches are so flimsey that you can yank on them and they bend enough to pull the hatch open even when locked; its happened to me more than once.
    Don't know about Leer.
I had a Gem Top steel shell previously. I loved that one on my old '85 Toyota, it didn't leak, the latch/lock system was stainless steel and flush mounted. But Gem Tops are so square and sharp looking. I wanted something more complementary to the lines on my '03 Tacoma so I went with the Snug Top. Like I said , it looks good, but I wish I would have gotten the Gem Top.

They only sell the front covers, so it doesn't matter the model. I believe dealer invoice on them is $160. Best bet is try ebay. A company, Wetokole, does custom neoprene cover that look good, but are expensive. Google them.
  • mmm5mmm5 Member Posts: 5
I have wet okole seat covers. They are great. The seats feel softer and the look is great. Expensive at $500 for both front and back but well worth it.

Has any body put a 2" leveling kit on a 2006 DC longbed prerunner W/17" Sport wheels using 275/70/17 on the stock wheels?

PB...did you think the installation instructions on the Westin Nerf were vague? I noticed that the mounting bracket they indicated for the driver side actually went on the passenger side, and the passenger on the driver side.

I've been looking for a pair of nerf bars for my truck, but I'm not sure of which would be better than the other. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got Westin Platinum Series Steps, black powder coat(26-2675). I like 'em a lot. Bought them for $270, GoGrilleGuards.com.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
I don't remember having a problem with the brackets getting mixed up. But make sure you pay attention to the picture on the instructions. There are 2 big washers that work like spacers on the bottom bolt to make the bracket bolt down correctly. You will bend the bracket slightly if you don't use the spacers.

You shouldn't have any parts left over once everything is installed.

I really like my Westin Oval tube steps. I don't see them on many trucks. If you get them you need to order the mounting kit separately. The part numbers are on Westin's website.

I need to make my cab as air tight as possible. Does anyone know a way to keep the recirculate on at all times. I know it stays on until full defrost is set but I need to keep from pulling in outside air. My spouse has allergy problems and I need to control the inside air with airpurifiers. I live in the mid west and can travel in order to get to a customizer.

Look on this message board for "cabin filter". Try putting a high allergen filter in.

Has anyone here dealt with this dealership in Hagerstown, Md.? Good, bad or indifferent?

PB- do you know what material(s) the oval tubes are?
    Aluminum, stainless, carbon steel?
Do they offer the lifetime warranty that the Platinum series has?

I really like the look of those bars, but I launch and sail in brackish water and am concerned about long term condition/looks. (I keep a vehicle for 10 yrs or so.)
Sometimes the bars of my double cab will get wet.

Just installed the K&N aircharger on an X-Runner and noticed two problems.
Idle while stopped at the traffic light(in neutral gear) is now 1000 rpm versus 750 rpm before installing the aircharger.
Slight runon after turning the ignition off. Pre-aircharger, the engine would shut down immediately. Does anyone notice these changes after changing their intake system? I might reinstall the stock airbox.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
I just installed mine this weekend as well. I didn't notice any difference in the engine not shutting down immediately. I wasn't checking out the RPM's at idle. Yes, they were at 750 rpm pre-aircharger. I will check it out when I go to lunch and let you know. Do you have a 6-speed?

Just a thought. When did you install it? Did you disconnect the battery and let the ECU discharge? I'm thinking you may still be in the learning/adjustment stage. It may change as you continue to drive the truck. Anyway, I'll check mine out and get back to you in an hour or so.

All the past new cars that I have owned have made this noise. It goes away with time and driving. The engine is not seasoned so you here expansion and you made smell some odd things especial if the car is kept in a garage. You will probably notice that after a 20 minute drive somewhere that the sound stops. If it proceeds after 6000 miles I would take it back to the dealer.
  • covingtoncovington Member Posts: 8
Ok this sounds odd but here it goes; Are the doors on my 06 Taco supposed to sutomatic lock after I start driving? In other toyota's they have this feature and I am thinking that my truck should have this as well. The odd thing is that right after I put the car into drive there is a sound like it is locking something but the doors do not lock at all.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
My RPM's are still at 750 in neutral once the engine warms up. I would make sure all of your connections are good and you may want to clean your MAF sensor with some CRC electronics cleaner. Good luck.
  • totoyomatotoyoma Member Posts: 5
You are not alone. I installed one a couple of weeks ago, disconnecting the battery before doing so. When I first started it I was worried when the engine ran at 2000rpm at cold idle and did not want to go below 1500rpm even after it warmed up after a few minutes. But after I drove it around for about 15 minutes it eventually dropped down to the old 750 rpm idle again and ran normally after that.
This past weekend I exchanged back to the old intake and experienced a similar rpm shift that cleared up quicker (maybe I am used to it now) If you haven't yet done so try disconnecting the battery or give it a chance correct itself. As far as the run on thing I can't say I had any problems in that area did you check your vacuum line hose connections (just a guess).
  • westeemwesteem Member Posts: 49
Just installed mine on Saturday and have driven only about 3 times since then. I disconnected the negative battery terminal per the instructions. I have a 6-speed with the 4.0 liter engine. How long before your engine settled in to the new system? I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
  • gonesurfinggonesurfing Member Posts: 5
    Update:

~5K miles after the initial starter was replaced, my truck is making the same noise again, but very intermittently.

The starter is always noisy when cold whether it grinds or not. I can usually hear a "clunk" as it disengages 1-2 seconds after start. There seems to be some unknown factor which differentiates when it makes the slightly audible "clunk" versus the highly annoying "grind".

Anyone else have this fixed?! Dealer keeps pulling the starter and checking operation and nothing is ever wrong. I am thinking it may be a bad relay that is the root of it all as I think its fairly unlikely to get 2 starters in a row with the same problem.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
They are extruded aluminum, so no worries about rusting. The mounting brackets are steel though. I sprayed them with 3m undercoating to protect them from rocks and rust. I think the tubes have a lifetime warranty, I'm not positive though.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
The dealership should be able to hook up to your computer and turn on that auto door lock feature.

Thanks for the feedback! I noticed what you're talking about when I looked at the SnugTop in the showroom.

    Hi all

I've searched this site, and every where else looking for help. I recently purchased the 05 Tacoma, V6, 4door. I mistakenly assusmed that it would be compatible with my overhead Trac Racks system I had on my Ford Ranger (ya know the one that every pick up truck owner has). The Tacoma does not have post pockets, so you cannot mount the base rails and the bed tapers so you can not slide the racks, even if you could mount them. I called Trac Racks, thire engineers could not develope a mounting they would warrantee, and Toyota...dont get me started.

My idea is to mount just the overhaed stantions, using a plate and washer set up under the composite bed cap. I need to stiffen the metal liner, and the rack will be fixed in place. Its going to be a real pain getting the plate stiffiner and washer hardware up betweeen the bed walls, but I desparetely need to get the racks mounted.

Has anyone had similar probelms, found an off the shelf solution, or engineer a better home remedy.

Thanks for you help, Dave L

Nope but it is possible. Check the Daystar kit. I think they are on Ebay too.
