There seemed to be a lot of silver and white ones at the dealer I bought from in Fort Walton Beach, Florida - I do think folks here go for the ligher colors because of heat/sun issues. I don't recall seeing more than one or two indigo trucks on the lot at the same time when I was looking.

I ended up with and indigo ink pearl truck. I almost for a black one, but it sold a few days before I did the deed. Ironically, to someone near me in Navarre.

The dark blue is quite a contrast to my old truck, which was a gold Mazda B3000...

    Wayne

p.s. I do see a good number of the Speedway Blue trucks on the road around here

I bought a set of factory TRD seat covers for bucket seats. Everything installed fine except for the passenger seat cover. It is like the seat cover is not long enough to properly install. According to the instructions, you pull the top part under the seat and snap it to a plastic strip. There's no way! I need some help on this one..

I don't have the hood scoop on my DC but I've heard the noise a couple of times while driving into a stiff wind. I couldn't tell where it was coming from.
  • covingtoncovington Member Posts: 8
I think I know what the noise is, when I was young I remember this noise in the old mans truck. It may be the Windshield wipers. Next time one you hear it, try turning on the wipes and see if it interrupt the sound. You may be surprised.

Thanks. Yes, I know the VW color you're referring to - two friends also have Jetta's the same color as your daughters.
And it will look good if I can get them to make the thing!

Gee, maybe I can get a Ford FX4 in that color if Toyota won't make it! (just kidding..)

I tried to finish my post last night, but my computer wouldn't cooperate. The Panama City dealer has 9 Indigo double cab trucks out of 72 in stock, none of which are stick shift. The SE region has 225 Indigo out of 2700 available. Guess that is where to go for that color.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
It sounds like you might have ordered the seat covers for the base model seats. If the passenger side seat cover is two pieces then you have ordered the wrong covers. Both seat covers for the sport seats should be a single piece.

You need Toyota part# PT218-35052-01 - Seat Covers - Sport Seat - TRD Logo

To everyone complaining about the high pitched noise or beeping noise that is coming from the front windshield near the center of the dash during high winds, the answer is this: There is a loose seal around the windshield that causes a high pitched noise similar to blowing into a blade of grass when we were kids. Take your truck to the dealership and have them reseal the entire windshield. If they have questions, the can contact the service manager at Maroone Toyota in Florida. He has fixed this problem in many Toyotas. This issue has been pointed out in many of the earlier posts. I had the same problem and my dealership resealed the windshield and installed a noise kit. I haven't had the problem since and I drive alot in high winds. And I like to speed. Thank You for listening.

Where did you get the auto-dimming HomeLink mirror?
  • ap47ap47 Member Posts: 11
My DC Taco '05 is about to do the same thing...the material tag suddenly got an inch longer last time I went into the cargo space, so I figure its about to take a dump. Were you able to fix it?
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
Ebay, for $130, I think. Search and you should find some. I love the homelink mirror. It's nice not having garage door openers all over my visor.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
FYI. While performing the black headlight mod it is also a good time to upgrade your foglight bulbs or mount a bull bar, if you plan to do so in the future. With the grille and headlights out it's so easy to get to the foglights and bumper mounts.

Mine cost $629 delivered by FedEx. Installation took me two half days: first, to prep and align, second, to install. It's very weather tight and the alignment looks sharp.
  • geogeckogeogecko Member Posts: 225
Yep, I tried that a while back, but the noise was not interrupted.

I guess it could be a windshield seal problem. It did not sound at all, like it was coming from the mirrors though.

It's been my experience, that dealers want to reproduce the problem before they will replace anything. Just going in there and telling them to reseal the windshield, will probably make them laugh at me. The thing is, it's hard to get up to about 80-85 in town, and have a stiff wind coming at you...

Is this the same problem that caused the leaks in the early trucks? I sprayed my truck, and drove it in pouring rain, but never got any water in the truck cab...

What octane does the Tacoma need?

Anything at or above 87 will do. Some have said they have had pinging with 87, others have not. No one has reported any notable loss of power or change in MPG with the different grades. You can try 87, if it pings, move up a grade.

Toyota RECOMMENDS premium for all of it's V6 engines. NOT REQUIRED. (thanks C&D)

Thanks for the info. Just wondering if you let me know about the brand name and cost?

I just ordered my Ivan Stewart's from this dealer in SC. Talked to the guy said he can get them in one or two days and ship them out. You can order them from the site or send an email to Ken. Tell him Aaron or Bob referred you. Pretty good price (similar to what I've seen on eBay) and the shipping wasn't too expensive. Here's the link:

They are the real deal, referred by taco5 on cardomain.com.

I was just reading the posts, new to the forum and I had read your post. Are you still squeak free? I have an 05 Taco Access Cab with the V6 manual transmission. At around 4000 miles, had the vehicle at the dealership with a "squeaky pedal" and they did the lubrication that you described but this didn't fix the problem. The dealership had the clutch master cyclinder replaced and it was good until I hit around 7400 miles, I've got squeaking again when I use the clutch especially in reverse and 1st gear. It's a pain to go to the dealership but I guess I'll have to go again. :lemon:
  • vincewood30vincewood30 Member Posts: 48
There is a TSB out for the problem. Toyota had to replace the entire inside clutch assembly on my '05 but with the 4 Cylinder engine Prerunner Access Cab . Since they've done that I haven't heard a peep out of it.
  • vincewood30vincewood30 Member Posts: 48
Try and go to LongoToyota.Com Their the best dealership in Ca. Just go through the Internet Sales Department. I got my '05 Tacoma for only $300 over factory invoice.
  • gandalf1gandalf1 Member Posts: 62
Ustazzaf - it sounds like we have the same computer, or maybe ISP!

Wow, you mean I have to fly from SoCal to Florida to get the color I want? :) That works out to over 12% of the Panama City DC's being the blue I want, and over 8% of the ones for the SE region. So much for Toyota not making dark colors in warm climates...

Thanks to those of you that have weighed-in on the subject of Toyota and the number of a given color they make for different areas. But I wonder if it's more like the case of what came first, the chicken or the egg. In other words, does Toyota make the color(s) we want, or do we buy the color(s) they provide us at the local dealership?

I suspect that most of us want to drive off the lot with a vehicle the day we visit the dealer, and color becomes secondary if the vehicle has everything else (or close) that we want. Sooo, we drive the white one home and Toyota thinks they have us figured out...

Here's an interesting observation. Today, the wife and I drove up to Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains (couple hour drive each way, so it was a nice putt) and we probably saw something like 30-40 Jeep Liberty's and Nissan Titan's (both of which I also happen to like), and a grand total of one Liberty was white, and none of the Titans. I think there's a message there some place...
  • gandalf1gandalf1 Member Posts: 62
I tried Longo first after I read a post here. Maybe it was yours. Anyway, I get two Longo Internet Sales guys respond. Both guys had my truck - but neither was the right color, or maybe even 4x4, or had the tow package and both offered packages I didn't want. Sigh...reminded me of the pre-internet days!

But Ok fine, I know this is just their intro blah blah response so I politely remind them what I'm looking for. One of them (initials H.A. - I forget the other guys name) finally comes through with a MSRP of 30,877 and I can have it for $29,877....not much of a deal (not to mention the side airbags and JBL I didn't want). H.A. gets a little more serious in his next response and will actually order a truck equipped like I want for a $1,000 over invoice.

So, at $1,000 over invoice, Longo was the same as 4 other dealerships that are closer, and more than the one I'm working with. I even e-mailed their boss - who earlier sent me a message to contact him if I had a problem etc., and that didn't help.

Bottom line - I am glad you had good luck with them - $300 over invoice is very good, but maybe it was because it was a 2005 and I'm looking at a 2006? Whatever the reason, Longo had first shot (due to yours or someone's earlier posting here) and didn't take advantage of it.

I just bought a 2006 Tacoma with the TRD Sport package. I love the truck and appearance except for the decals on the rear fenders proclaiming "TRS Sport". I think the vehicle would look better without them. Any big deal in removing them, i.e., leaving permament color discoloration etc?
  • yrffejyrffej Member Posts: 47
i had the dealer remove mine, he said they used a hair dryer to heat and peel.... 20min later they were done. there's been discussion on other forums describing the removal of the chrome emblems with a hair dryer and dental-floss. then with some solvent like goo-gone? removing the remaining adhesive.... much easier on a warm day.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
For the emblems on the doors use a fishing line to get behind the plastic, then just saw it back and forth to get it off, then peel the the sticky foam off with your finger. Get any glue off with Goo Gone. Be sure NOT to use Goof Off. They are not the same thing.

For the TRD sticker on bed just heat it up slightly with a heat gun or blow dryer and pick at it with your fingernail to get it started, then just pull it all off. Get the sticky off with Goo Gone and a soft towel. Turn the towel over frequently.

Then polish or wax where the sticker used to be.

I debadged mine a while ago. Looks much cleaner. But I left the ones on the tailgate.

I have had a problem with vibration/shaking in my 2005 dbl cab, mostly at higher speeds around 75. The dealer identified and replaced a bad tire, but the problem is still there.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Claritin doesn't reduce the allergin load that sets off resperatory problems. I was looking for a way to keep the defroster on full recirculate.
  • ustazzafustazzaf Member Posts: 311
You are dead on about us picking the color they provide. I checked out the internet very extensively prior to going to the dealer. Figured that any color but white would be ok as long as it had the options I wanted. Black was toward the bottom of the preference chart, but when that was the only color available with the options, it was the most beautiful truck on the lot. I will not special order a truck, because I will drive the truck I buy before I buy it. And yes, I do want to take a truck home the day I visit the dealer. I checked 3 dealers before I found the options I wanted, so that made the truck look better too. I do love the color now that I have it though and I am glad I searched until I found the right options. Color is indeed secondary. My final thought though is that Toyota has been a major contendor in the states since atleast the early eighties, and they would not be number one in the world if they didn't know what we want. Toyotas rule!!!!

I have a Leer that I really like. It is rated at 300 pounds roof capacity. Looks nice and lifts a few inches just behind the cab. It is the 180 midrise on Leer.com. Nice quality for a grand. Will send pics if you request or tell me how to post. trd4d at yahoo.

Love your Taco. I just purchased this model this last week and am also planning on removing the decals (maybe the badges, too). From your photos it looks like you added the black bull bar & black nerf bars. Wondering who the manufacturer(s) of these items are? (Westin?) I am guessing the skid plate that is presently on my 06 will need to be removed to add the bull bar/skid plate combo?
    Thanks

Where do you get the info for the TSB on this specific problem? Are all dealers aware of this existing problem? Thanks for your help!
  • gandalf1gandalf1 Member Posts: 62
Yep, Toyota makes a good product and they know it. Even more importantly, they know that WE know it, and will buy it even if it's not necessarily our color of choice!

If I wasn't so hard-headed, I would have already bought a white or silver one! Regarding your selection, nothing looks better than the color black...when it's clean!

The stock 265-70-16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trails are great for now, but when its time to replace them, I want to up my off road traction. I am looking into getting some BFGoodrich All Terrains or Mud Terrains.

Which design is better for the desert sands of SoCal?

What is the largest size tire that will fit on stock 2005 Tacoma TRD Off Road 16" wheels without rubbing and a lift?

If I do decide to get a lift, what do ya'll recommend? Daystar, Toytec?

    Thanks.

Westin bull bar and Westin Tube steps. No need to remove the Toyota skid plate. The Westin one overlaps it. The stock skid plate goes back a lot further than the Westin one. No need to remove tow hooks or anything. Just bolt a couple brackets to the bumper mounts and bolt the bull bar to the brackets.

    :)

Showing my incredible ignorance - how often do you use those extra lights on the bull bar?

a while ago someone post a message, about a alarm system, for a 05 tacoma wich uses a page with a range of several hundred feet. will you guys please telme wich company was.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
I have the PIAA 5250s which have dual beams, just like your headlights.

They have low beam fog lights and then you can switch to brighter driving lights.

You can leave them on any time for extra visibility at night, which is nice to have in deer country. During the deer rut season there are deer crossing the roads all the tiime. The Plasma Ion (yellow) fog lights really help visibilty in rain, fog, and snow.
  • pb2themaxpb2themax Member Posts: 471
Hundreds of feet? That's nothing. My CompuStar alarm/remote starter has a 6000 foot range.

I can start my truck from inside my job and then it's all warm and toasty when I get out to it. I'll never go without a remote starter/alarm. I love it.

Drove down to the local 1/4 mi track this past Friday night to watch a little test and tune action. Decided to run my 05 double cab, 4wd, auto, short bed down the track just to see what it would do. I knew the truck felt pretty quick but never realized how quick. First pass was a wash due to no available traction at the start. Next pass I tried 4wd hi and was amazed how well the Tacoma launched. Just put it in drive, power/brake at the start and floor the accelerator. I made 5 passes with the best 1/8 mi time of 9.81 @ 70.05 mph and 1/4 mi of 15.44 @ 87.05! Beat a swb 05 Dodge "Hemi" 1/2 ton with dual exhaust on one of the passes as well! The only mods I have are a drop in K&N air filter, hydrocarbon trap removed, and a Gibson after cat exhaust.

    Reply to wooddorker,

I'll take your advice and stop by a few truck body shops to see what they say. I'm not sure the cap clamp will distribute the weight or resist the uplift forces any better than my plate and washer idea, but I'll look into it.

    Thanks

I was wondering if anybody else's engine sounds like crap. Mine makes a rattling sound, Mabey a lifter chattering. has anybody else got this problem, and what is the fix?
  • adventurer1adventurer1 Member Posts: 13
The V6 is not the most refined engine but it gets better with age. Mine made the infamous "tick" up until about 4K mi then it slowly faded away with more miles. I have 11K now and don't even notice the tick any more. The "tick" sounded just like a loose valve, cam chain noise or exhaust leak. Put some miles on it and it should get quieter.

" I'm not sure the cap clamp will distribute the weight or resist the uplift forces any better than my plate and washer idea, but I'll look into it."

The cap clamp isn't supposed to distribute weight. The "tracks" themselves will do that, just as bottom rails of a cap would.

The uplift is a whole 'nuther story. Remember, those same clamps hold caps on that have roof racks, and boats, bikes, ladders, rocket boxes, etc..., attached to them. The side tracks in the bed are actually quite strong, I've already attached serious loads to them with no issues.

My whole point was to suggest to make sure you use the Trac-Rac rails, and not to try to attach the uprights directly to the bed. The rails would probably be best attached as you say, but with a slightly different fastener.

The truck shops have a special, expanding nut they can screw the tracks down with. These devices are also used to attach racks, shelving, and cages to commercial van interiors.
  • johndeerejoejohndeerejoe Member Posts: 19
I've got over 24500 mile on it. I've still got the tick that you describe, but the one that concerns me is a lot louder and normally occurs first thing in the morning. thanks
