My Cadillac DTS has rear seat warmers and coolers and the seat is adjustable.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's funny - my kids heard those exist and now they want our next car to have them.

Funny how you need something you didn't even know existed yesterday. ;)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Heated seats are one of those once-frivolous things that a person can easily get used to. They are standard in many cars now, so the market agrees.
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 16,954
I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I think I'm the only person on the forums who can't stand heated seats. Now, OTOH ventilated/cooled seats they are kinda cool.

When I shopped the Taurus it had rear heated seats.

In the past few days, I've seen 2 last gen 2011+ Saab 9-5's. Silver one a few days ago, grey one today. There used to be a black one in the neighborhood a while back, but I haven't seen it for a few months. They are pretty handsome in the flesh.

I wanted them for my 2nd roadster but the packaging forced leather and other stuff I didn't want.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,348
my neighbor has one of those. Not sure of the year, but it was bought new not all that long ago. Definitely last generation, and he got it I think shortly before they went bust. No clue if he bought or leased.

A co-worker got a 9-5 at a good price then the navi busted and she realized the deal may not have been so good after all.

I suggested searching for a salvage.

Saw another Mazda 6 today - probable rental (lower spec, no plate frames, fresh plates).
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Saw another new Range Rover today, new Avalon too.

Facelift E-class hitting the lots now
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 16,954
Yes, "Abacomike" who has ordered a new E-class mentioned in SFTSF that his dealer just got a bunch in.

I'll have to take a look at that.

Here's another report of some showing up, in LA

I am not warming up to it. I like the weird light elements, but the theme to me is disjointed - soft round new parts with the angular old parts, and they got rid of the ponton themed rear fender accent.

To me the only thing that looks "off" is the grill on both the sport and regular models. It seems as if it is sticking out too far.

Not a bad looking car, but if I had to pick the previous model is better looking.

Porsche 959. Silver. I saw this today on the freeway between Zurich and Schaffhausen. This one appeared to be the real deal with the right proportions and details, unlike the 911 based copies I've seen. And it's not like there is a lack of means here. Very cool.

Cool, but more for the Classic thread, though. :shades:

    Saw a new C4S.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Oh, I just drove that road several months ago. One of my favorite non-Autobahn places in the world. I'm jealous! The drive between Zurich and Chur can also be gorgeous.

Here's a 959 I happened upon sitting at a shop adjacent to a local indy MB shop last year:

The grille is kind of unusual too. Maybe just too new to my eyes. I prefer the sport side and rear trim, but I would have to stick a hood ornament where they've decided to place a flat badge. MB sedan without an ornament = wrong, unless it's an 80s tuned car with an SEC nose, maybe CLS can get a pass.

Coupe. Sales must be at a crawl as they are rare now.

I like the back better than the front, but I didn't realize you can get a normal sunroof.
That full sunroof is being touted.

I don't think I knew there was a Classic thread. Whoops.

To keep on topic, I've seen quite a few of the F31 3-series tourings here; they must be selling well. Nice looking wagon; I wonder if any 'aspirational' current Jetta wagon owners will look to move up, especially with BMW confirming diesel availability for the US.

I rented an F11 in 2010 - I'd take that over an X3/5. It was a gas though.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Saw a Gran Coupe today, Tesla S, Avalon Limited moving fast on I5, and no 14 E-class visible at the dealer.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw a new one today...anyone else think these can look anywhere from good to bad depending on the color?

    Pearl White looks best.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Saw a newer Rolls Phantom with LED lights.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The big van, so boxy, I mean, box trucks look at it and say "you're boxy".

The front of the cabin is boxy, even. Good for 7' tall drivers, I guess.

Loaded up, with the panoramic moonroof. I think the Forester made competitors add this option.

I like that Ford offers it a-la-carte on some models.

And Ford just reported their biggest quarterly profit this decade. Surely because they offer that pano roof option. ;)

Juice - I remember you mentioning the revisions Subaru has/will make to their 2.5l engine in the Forester to eliminate the head gasket problem. Has the 'permanent' fix been made yet? Or is that coming?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yep, the FB25 engines have replaced the EJ25 engines.

There's a very easy way to tell - pop the hood and look for an oil filter. The FB engines moved the filter to the top of the engine bay, super easy access. Bet I could change the oil in less than 5 minutes.

If I had one that is! :D

My brother's 2011 (?) model was the first year to get it, Outback got it the next year. Impreza got the FB20 with the redesign.

While we're de-coding Subaru engines, the FT86 models have the FA20, with the DI added. The H6 are called EZ36.

You will not see coolant leaking from a head gasket on an FB engine for one very simple reason - coolant no longer flows through the gasket. The head is cooled by separate lines.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
That's tempting, especially since they're now using a timing chain instead of a belt. Our 2007 Forester's been doing fine...fingers crossed, as 'Mike' would say...

Yeah, my wife's 09 is also fine, and has low miles since she's basically working from home now. She got that car right when she stopped commuting, so it has just 30k miles in a little over 4 years.

I'm hoping for updates to their tech before even considering a trade.

Saw a white Ferrari California (I think) today, and someone smoking in a brand new looking C coupe (where are the emotorcons?)
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,348
    a nice silver Maserati coupe.

    Bluetec.

I like these except for the excessive chrome garnish on the rear bumpers. Fake skid plate, exhaust diffusers, overdone tips, c'mon guys....
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
When you've got a boring car, add styling and garnish. See Toyolex and Hyundai.

I think the overdone exhaust idea is mainstream now, everyone has it.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It is, there are very few vehicles with metal skid plates, even so called "SUVs" have plastic ones.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...maroon Nissan Rogue on DUBs at Magee and Oxford Avenue and white Audi A6 at St. Vincent on Oxford Avenue in NE Philly.

Plenty tough enough for scraping the ground at the local mall or pilates clinic
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
If it's old and beat the wheels and tires may have cost more than the rest of the car is worth.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Probably female owned with a lululemon bumper sticker.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Saw an ordinary pickup today with one of those gallon jug sized tailpipes - a skunk could nest in there.

All those plastic SUV skid plates are to help bump up the mpg to 13. :-)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Out here on the west coast, those tailpipes end up on 90s era Civics. Sporty!

Worked late today, got behind a Tesla S leaving the office complex - driver was cautious. Saw probably the same white Ferrari California from yesterday, and what I think was a Ferrari 458 Spider, blue.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I swear this one looked twice as big as the usual boyracer ones (there's one on a Mitsu here in my little town).

Eight hours of zombie driving today and I didn't see anything new looking.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Steve - did you ever see the photo I shared of my Forester with the giant Folgers (actual, real Folgers can) can prop for April Fools?

That got a lot of laughs.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I do remember that Juice. :-) Next year you need to string a dozen along the bottom of the bumper and hook a smoke machine up to each one.

Be sure to rev it a lot at the stoplights.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I could pipe in fake exhaust sounds.

Why not? OEMs do that. :D
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Or the dumb air intake "sound generator" on the Lexus GS. Worse than fake exhausts.
