Went out for an errand, saw some new 5ers on the BMW lot. Stopped to take a look - definitely sharper looking than the prior car. A nicely optioned one is 66K. I don't think there's a diesel yet. It was parked beside a black 6er GC with a white interior. The rest of the stuff on the lot was more normal, most interesting was the used car side, which had a couple of year old hockey stick 7ers, and a loaded 2012 S-class, sadly a V8 and not a diesel.
Also stopped by MB to get a key fob battery replacement. Nothing I hadn't seen before, but they all had special lease prices on the window. $1900/month for an AMG GT seems kind of dear.
During our stay in Santa Monica for Edmunds meetings, this little gem was available for rent outside the hotel. We didn't, but the wife was thinking we should have
On the road in traffic today was beside the CEO in his new Bentley, also saw a new E-class, seldom-seen luxury trim and looked like a high spec car with drivers assistance package. Terribly driven, embarrassing, distracted and phone usage. Time for progressive fines.
Our CEO drives a 7 series. He could easily afford a Bentley but he just isn't the type. I don't even think he picked the 7, his nephew who works for the company gets that job.
Our CEO also regularly drives a later model Ferrari, I think a 458. I am pretty sure he makes a cool 8 figures, so these cars for him are like you or I buying a $700 beater
I have to laugh at "not being the type" for a Bentley, but a 7-Series is OK? If he's really not the type, a Lexus ES would do! Maybe even a Honda Accord V6.
If I didn't care for sport in my cars, I would probably be happy with luxury from Lexus. If I wanted a happy medium, Audi's A-cars are great.
I have a loaner right now. A "loaded" A3. 2.0T, quattro, Bang & Olufsen Stereo, DSG, parking sensors, blind spot light monitor. A nice small car that is comfortable and geared for good mileage. It's laughable how different it is geared (with the same 6-speed) vs. my TTS. About 1K difference in RPM at 75 MPH.
Softer sprung, but still fast in the curves. Only true sports cars would get away from this A3, yet it is comfy.

Add a sport package and that is my sons car. If it is a 2017.
I doubt it because it has nearly 13,000 miles. In fact, the key tag says '15 A3. Still, a quality car, that I know is even more improved for '17, and that's a good thing.
It has the drive SELECT (comfort, dynamic) and 19" wheels, so I'm guessing it is a "sport" model.
Surprised they had parking sensors on the '15's, but it was a new model release at the time.
Main complaint: The interior isn't quite up to snuff by A4/S4/TT standards. In fact, I still feel the '06 A3 had some nicer materials and softer more padded plastics, with nicer trim real aluminum trim accents (sport models). However, the difference is slight and it is still a nice (though dark all-black) interior. It is quiet. It is tight.

The 17 interior is updated I think. And he has cool virtual dash and nice sport seats.
Fun car, but small
Doesn't he have the "brown" interior? I think pictures are justified. For sure, the '15 doesn't have virtual dash screen; it has the center dash pop-up IPAD-like screen.

yes, he has the dark blue over chestnut. Gorgeous combo. premium package, tech/navi, and sport package. Very snazzy, and the virtual cockpit is way cool.
tough to find a twin (heck, it was super hard for him to find in the first place), but this is close. Only difference is his is cosmos blue not black, and he doesn't have LED lights. But the interior is the same!
I saw a new CX-9 while on foot today. What caught my eye was the sharp looking (literally sharp) edge at the top of the grille/front of the hood. Seems kind of dangerous from the suddenly important pedestrian impact point of view.

ON the way to work this morn, a new black (rather dirty, maybe dark gray?) Miata RF. Coming up on it from the center lane, it was in the left, in 3/4 view the front fenders reminded me a bit of the C3 Vette. Tiny car, I felt like I was driving an Expediton when I pulled up next to it!
There was a white BMW X1 playing left lane bandit, so the Miata did a nice, quick slingshot around it (even used turn signals!), followed by a silver BMW 435GC and then my XF. A trio of good lookers (and good drivers)! If only I were as handsome as my car...

I the parking lot at work, a red Jaguar XE. In another parking lot, a Jaguar F Pace. It's only second one I've seen and it looked a lot better than the one I saw in Germany.

Saw a Continental on the Turnpike today. I still think it is a good looking car. Driver thought he was in a bimmer, though, based on how he was tailgating and swerving.

In mybuilding garage this morning, a very new and very red Alfa Giulia. Will investigate this evening! Wonder if it's a surprise gift for me?

saw a new CX-9 in my neighborhood today with temp tags. Sharp looking. I think it is a replacement for a 5 or so YO caddy SRX but i didn't get a good look at the driver. Will eventually see it parked when I am out for a walk.
When I sat in one in the showroom, it felt like a very big car to me. Much larger inside than the A3. I know it is longer and wider (not sure how much), but no clue if it drives as big as it feels from inside.

I'll be able to give a "full" report on the A4 flagship drive-ability after this upcoming weekend. I did have one before for just a brief drive and it definitely drove lighter and nimbler than it looks, which I agree, it looks and feels big when you sit inside. I heard it is just incrementally bigger than the previous A4, but it is significantly lighter.

Not new, but interesting in a way, I saw 2 current W205 C-class this morning, one a rental, one a dealer loaner.
The loaner was being used by the proprietor of the Chevron I patronize. His normal cars are a very low mileage 2012 IS-F, and a 3 year old GL. The GL had a strut failing, and needed engine mounts, so it gets to spend about a week in the shop. Kind of alarming for such a young vehicle.
Visited Bentley University with my son and ex. yesterday. Of course, we discussed the cost of college these days... Just as we were making a left onto the street that leads to the Bentley entrance, a (gorgeous!!!) black Aston Martin DB11 passed us going in the opposite direction. No doubt this was the car of the president of the University!

There's definitely some tricky red herring in that camouflage, with the hood bulge and design on the C-pillar.

also saw a nice steel blue MB GLA. Sharp looking in that color. I could be happy with something of that size and configuration.

The sister picked up a new car to replace the Camry - yep, another CR-V (used, same vintage as her brothers).
