Saw one of these coming in to work today.

Also, I've finally been seeing a few more Jettas. Those were painfully slow to trickle out.

New Jetta... with all of the nose done up in chrome? Are they all like that, or is this a dealer add-on? Kind of goofy...

I think they're all like that, though special edition models may be different.

I don't get why VW and Audi are both putting on that mouth-agape look. IMO it looks fine with thin euro plates but just awful with US plates.

The GLI has a blacked out nose, and its bigger wheels help the looks of the car as a whole.

I got the most fleeting glimpse of a new 3 series as it passed me going the opposite direction. I didn't realize what it was and only caught a quick look at the nose and then of the rear in my mirror. Shouldn't a Bimmer be more recognizeable to another Bimmer driver?

I'm seeing plenty of 3s nowadays. I don't even mention them any more. ;)

Loaded Mitsu Eclipse, exactly like the ones in the commercials, to the T...

Very sharp, pays homage to the gen 2's which are IMO the best generation.

a black Chrysler 300C, and then a silver one.

Also the new Suzuki Grand Vitara, in silver. It really sharp, much better than the bland version it replaces.

And tragically, I also spotted again a black Cadillac Escalade that has been abandoned by the highway. It's been there for a week now. Some people really are nuts, just leaving a 55K SUV by the road like that.....

An abandoned Escalade sounds more like a sign of progress than a tragedy. :P

.....they probably couldn't afford to put gas in it any more, and left it by the side of the road in hopes it would be stolen or repossessed.

Saw my first Mazda5 today, looks like a pretty cool vehicle. Funny, it's about the size that 'mini' vans used to be (y'know, the ones that aren't so mini any more). Sort of looks like the spiritual successor to something like the Mitsubishi Expo, only much more stylish.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
I saw the new Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470. They aren't new, they just got their tallights restyled, and they look much nicer. The LX470 looks much nicer, and the taillights are more distinctive. Still, these restylings don't hide the fact that these two date back to 1998.

And about the abandoned Escalade....well I am in the Middle East so I dont think it was dumped because he couldn't afford gas....... ;)

Maybe he realized he paid too much for a Tahoe...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I've been seeing a lot of Infiniti Ms, maybe 3 this weekend. Saw an M35x driving in this morning. They look good.

LX470 got a big boost in engine output, that should help it.

I saw a new Miata at lunch today. I really like it.

I saw an A3 driving in my neighborhood yesterday. I like it a lot, but I did think it was a Golf at first.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
Saturday on the long island expressway I saw 4 Bentley CGTs, an sl 65 merc, two maybachs, and Baby blue phantom. It's almost embarassing when you see that much Cash rolling by in one day. I agree about the Mazda 5 by the way, I like it a lot, very Euro.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
a black Hyundai Sonata and a silver Mercedes G500. Looking forward to seeing the next generation.

About the abandoned Escalade....guys your comments are funny...but jokes aside I find it sad that someone can just leave an expensive luxury SUV just lying there. I did forget to mention in #1419 that the Escalade has the front left tire ripped to shreds, but that's no excuse for leaving a vehicle like that. I almost felt like getting some new tires and driving away with it! ;)

sitting across from me at a red light this morning. It actually looked pretty good from the front and side views. I questioned if it really was a Chevy, then I saw that god awful back end. At that point I knew for sure.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Almost forgot, saw my first 06 Accord sedan in the flesh, parked right outside work. You can tell by the tail lights, the whole rear looks a lot different.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Odd, saw 2 Vipers in one day. Not new, but rare enough that I was surprised.

Saw the new face-lifted Saturn Vue, not really digging it.

Also saw my first Hummer H3 on public roads. Still seems huge outside. Of course next to a Miata almost anything is.

a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, a new Volkswagen Golf, and then a Land Rover Range Rover Sport. All were in silver. The Range Rover looks better in orange, IMO.

I also saw a new Jetta. I have to agree with you.

    It is one odd duck!

    No continuity with previous Jettas

I don't understand why VW styled the Jetta to look like a Toyota Corolla. Yes, it's one very odd Duck.

While on vacation I actually got to see an SLR on the road. WOW! Not the prettiest car per say, it is one of those all aggression cars. I've seen the new R-Class too. It really hides its size well, because up close this thing is huge.

Saw a DB9 also while in Houston. My pick for the best looking production car in the world. Its everything the Bentley Continental GT isn't.

Today I saw 3 Chevrolet Uplanders. First a grey/brown one on the highway, then two silver ones driving side by side on the highway.

Also a black Volkswagen Phaeton parked by the street. I know they're not new, but they're so new I felt I had to mention them. I see so few of them that I wonder if they exist or not... I see mostly Lexus LS430s, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S Class around here, not many Audis Jaguars and VWs.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    ...silver Chevrolet SSR.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw my first Eclipse on the road, in silver. Looks much better than the last one, they gave its character back.

Also saw a pair of Bimmer 3s. Those seem to be very popular already.

New S40 sedans are popping up quite a bit but I'm really stunned at the apparent popularity of the V50 wagon, they are everywhere but they're all red or silver. :confuse:

I saw a new HHR at a dealer, I thought it looked a bit silly but then I thought well at least they're stealing from themselves, the PTCruiser OTOH apes '37 Fords.

...saw several 500s, a Montego, and a Monterrey this morning.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
I saw the new GS sedan today, one in black and and one in white. They seem to be becoming increasingly popular. I see plenty of BMW 5 Series, Jaguar S Type, and Mercedes E Class, but hardly any Cadillac STS or Audi A6.

Also saw a nice looking black Volvo S60 R AWD.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
First time I saw the new one on the streets, looks much better than the old one, but still sort of anonymous. I hardly noticed it.

Saw the same Infiniti G35x again today, we must both have the same commute. Saw a Lexus GS last night.

......a medium metallic gray 5-door with '2.0T' badging on the rear.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
A red Bentley Azure coupe, a white Audi A6, a nice looking blue Navigator, two beige Uplanders and a silver one.

With the Bentley Continental Coupe out, the Azure looks prehistoric compared to it.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,411
With the t-tops, the old Continental/Azure reminded me of a British interpretation of something like an 80s Monte Carlo. It was ancient within a couple years of introduction.

Yesterday I saw a dark green Bentley GT parked on the street a couple blocks from my house, and probably about a dozen new Jettas. Around here anyway, someone is buying them.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,411
Today in Seattle I saw a new E350 AMG. I guess there's a more detailed AMG package available on the E class now, it had a bodykit and AMG wheels, etc. It was pretty sharp

I do have a problem with it though, it also had an AMG badge on the trunk. I think that should be reserved soley for cars with actual AMG performance mods. Don't cheapen the name that adds more clout to your cars than anything else, MB...

  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
A kid here at work picked up one. LT maybe, with 5-spd, cloth for 14k brand new. Not a bad deal.

Anyone who asks him how he likes it gets the not so exiting response "eh, It gets me around..." But he is getting 32 mpg which is impressive.
  • merc1merc1 Member Posts: 6,081
Saw one of these this morning. Such an awesome looking car, kinda puts other "domestic" sedans to shame imo.

I know there are a lot of them around at this point but it is still nice to get a good close look at an exotic. I read somewhere that there are 250 in Newport Beach CA alone. this one was parked in my neighborhood and I looked up close. The back seat looks almost real but not actually functional, otherwise gorgeous as expeced. I also just found out that a distant cousin of mine's father actually drives one in Georgia and people mistake it for a 300c all the time.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It was hysterical. 300C stretch limo. Double-stretch, too.

Also saw my first Explorer on the roads. The headlights and tails are a little different, looks a bit more modern.

I'm finally seeing a few Jettas, took a while but they picked up a bit.

On my trip to NY a couple of weeks ago I saw a couple of Infiniti FX45 limos. Goofy looking... The local Ford dealer has a row of updated Explorers on the lot. Of particular interest was a loaded Eddie Bauer with chrome grill, two tone paint and stylish wheels. Pretty sharp looking!

I saw a 3 series wagon and an E350 wagon today, both with 30 seconds of each other. I think that is the first time I have seen either of those cars up close in person outside of a dealership.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The wife drives one on that show.

Yesterday I saw a 300C with a vinyl roof and chrome dubs. I almost barfed.

I must've seen a dozen new Jettas on an extended road trip this weekend. While everyone notices they closely resemble a Corolla from behind I was fooled into thinking they were Accords from the side profile. :confuse:

For some reason they were all black.

Not only did I see them I drove them.

Co worker referred a wealthy customer to his friend at Ford . Customer bought two loaded Expeditions both black (for her car rental company), paid in cash etc..

He asked me to help him drive one of them across town to her office (he drove one I drove the other). It was funny because you don't see two identical especially black brand new tinted out Expeditions like that following one another unless it's a VIP convoy or a star is in one of them. Anyways we turned a few heads ;)

On the way back I got to drive the customer's 2006 Mercedes ML350. I love the interior of it but the exterior is unattractively overdone IMO. Exterior styling looks like it belongs ona Kia or Hyundai.

That was my excitement for the day. :P

I have seen a few of these myself and while I don't think many cars look particularly graceful stretched, the 300c has got to be one of the worst. The ones I see ( and actually pretty much every 300C I see) all have the Strut replacement grill with the tighter Bentleyesque mesh. I am usually not a fan of cosmetic aftermarket add ons but this actually does seem to improve the look of the car. I know the standard grill heralds back to the original 300 cars but it is one of the worst features IMO on the car. However, the rest of the strut package is quite garish especially the front side vents which do absolutely nothing.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say it looked like a Corolla...

VW's biggest mistake was they they styled it anonymously, not only that but it looks more Asian than German.

boomchek: did you have to stop for gas? :P

Saw an HHR yesterday. In person they seem so small. You expect them to be a lot bigger.
