I agree I do not like the new IS's at all. The IS 300 was a good looking car and I liked the 3.0 I6 over he four cylinder or V6 they offer now.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
What 4-cylinder? In the good ol' USA, you get a V6 or V8!

A co-worker just got one of these new Camrys and I have to say it looks so much better than the previous model. It's actually very sleek and what not. I wish Toyota didn't feel the need to saddle the SE model with that somewhat generic looking body kit, but the biggest fly in the buttermilk is that snout, specifically that emblem. Yuck. You'd think that with such a good looking design overall (for a Toyota) they would have been able to intergrate Toyota's symbol (whatever it is) better than that. Really messes up the front end big time to me. Still though there has never been a better looking Camry. We'll see how it looks after the first 500K units hit the road.

Actually the orginal Turbo 4 cylinder offered in the Altezza, what the IS300 was called in the Japan, was superior to any of the engines offered in the US.

That motor had more power then the IS300, more power then the IS250 and about the same power as the IS350. The real advantage was that the engine was very small, light and pushed far back against the firewall for improved weight distribution. I think the Altezza had a nearly 50/50 weight balance.

But I passed a DB7 on the way to work this morning. Back roads, line of cars probably moving about 40-45 mph, I was heading the other way doing probably the same (Or just a wee bit more :D ) The exhaust drone literally shook my car, but it was oh so beautiful and the rumbling note was music to my ears...

That is a big snooze, just saw another one. Pedestrian friendly, at least, I'd hope.

I'd like to see someone mount a rhino horn or a pig snout on that emblem
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe a Long Horn for the Texas market?

Have to be all white with white leather interior as a special Boss Hog edition. :P

    Camry's New Slogan:

    Pedestrian and pedestrian friendly.

I didn't notice it until it passed me, so I got only a rear 3/4 view. Big and boxy, nothing stood out from that angle.

Actually saw it yesterday. Nice-looking crossover - better looks than I had expected. It's easy to identify as a Dodge with the big crossbar grille. It looks fun, not really an overgrown car and yet not a truck either. If I was in the market for something smaller I think I'd have to at least give it a closer look.

A couple of Calibers. Seem to be selling OK.

A new Tahoe. OK, but nothing exciting

A Caddy CTS-V in my parking lot at work. Nice to see a stick shift caddy.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I don't think the Caliber is really being marketed as a crossover though. I mean they are not even offering it with AWD yet.

I saw a black Pontiac Soltice on my commute from work a couple of days ago. They are very cool. :shades:

...blue Honda Civic. Third one I've seen since September. They must be catching on.

It was the first truly nice day in NY on Saturday and I saw many people taking advantage of the weather with their rides. On the Long Island Expessway I saw, 1980s vintage M3 and M6 both in showroom condition, Ferrari 575, Austin Healey 3000, a Viper Club (at least 5 in a line) an NSX, and a Solstice (top up for some reason). I am hitting up the auto show tommorow, can't wait. The trick is to go midweek. The opening weekend crowds are ridiculous and you can't get near a car let alone sit in one unless it's something no one cares about like that Saab truck or a cobalt.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw every new car out there, basically. :D

Black, causing a lot of rubbernecking. Didn't think they were delivering them yet. Look much cooler in person.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
WOW, Loren (miata1) saw one in a dealership. So they do look good, eh ? :D

I'm glad you like em' I can't wait to see one. Dad said he really likes em' too.

Way to go GM !!!!!! :shades:

I went out of my way to see it at the auto show. It's definately handsome and more masculine than that Solstice. It looks like it costs more than 25k inside and out.

But.... at 5'7", I couldn't stretch out in the passenger seat with the seat all the way back and with the top down, there is practically no storage space. These are fatal flaws. What good is a roadster when I can't throw a bag in the trunk, drop the top and take a 4 or 5 hour trip upstate?
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
I also went to the NY Auto show yesterday for about 4 hours (My friends were annoyed but it's my Mecca).
    Some Thoughts and Finds
-The AM Vantage V8 is actually that amazing looking up close, even in white like the demo they had. It is just perfect design, Equvalent to the 911 in it's classic shape. They will be collecting them in 50-75 years for sure.
-The Sky is much better looking than the solstice but I have to agree with the above threads, both cars are too small. I am 5' 9" and my legs were cramped in the footwells and I couldn't move the seat back to a comfortable position. there is no way I would buy a roadster this small unless it was made by Lotus. On a side note the funniest point in the evening was when I had a 6' 8" friend (not a typo) try and sit in an S2000. It wasn't even close.
-The BMW Z4 Coupe looks fantastic in person... it has just jumped up many notches on my "I want it list."
-The New AMGs with the 6.3 liter motors almost look like overkill now, these aren't Q ships anymore as they are clearly the biggest flashiest most badged up Benzes out there. Also some are going to say this is sacrilege but the SLR looks dated for some reason.
-Caymans look great in Black, ok in silver, terrible in red
-The Bentley GTC is much ado about an obvious idea
-The New G35 is lovely and the old ones are still some of my favorite cars to sit in. I am legitimately looking at the coupe.
-Perhaps the most fun car at the show and my favorite t play around in was the FJ Cruiser. I am not an suv off roader type at all but this toyish Tonka truck that looks like a hotrodded classic FJ has captured my heart. For only $22k nicely equipt you will want one too. It is too much fun.
-The Lucerne is very nice inside and a bargain compared to the lexus competition. Low power and bad fuel milage from that crappy GM V8 though.
-Saab is not going to be around so long I think
-The new CX9 Mazda van thing looks great, so does the Buick concept van thing. It is very lux and will probably sell well.
-The TT is kind of chunky, not as svelte as pictures
-The Mazdaspeed 6 is less impressive than I expected, less good looking even than the regular 6s. Kind of a let down.
-The GTI (My Fast hates plaid seats) is pretty cool up close. I like the wheels but I have too many bad VW quality horror stories to ever go down that route again.
    - Ferrari made poor choices in it's display cars, an odd two toned Scaglietti, a decaled up 430 CS with limited appeal, and a nice grey 430 spyder which they hid begind a podium. I guess they don't have to care too much but still they could have done a better presentation.
-Those Dodge Chrysler muscle car hemi variations have really crappy build quality, Panel gaps, loose seals were evident. Not impressive
-The aspen is about 7 years too late
-Only Russian Mobsters are still admiring the H2
-The new Navigator grill is obscene... you will see what I mean when they hit the streets...

Sorry about the long post but it was too much fun. Go to the show if you can and play around in those FJs, I like the Yellow one.

Aston Martin has easily the best looking lineup of cars in the industry, bar none. People would just stand there and stare, mouth agape.

Sky Redline looked good. But I dunno, I kind of like the idea of a $20k toy more than a high 20s sports car.

Z4 coupe I did not like, but I was with Bob H. and he loved it.

G35 looked better. A lot like the old model, but evolutionay improvements. We both liked it, minus the chrome spoiler on the back.

FJ is hot and trendy, and both models on the floor were PACKED with people (compared to a ghost-town surrounding the Acura MDX). But...ergonomics are awful. The seat belt is anchored in the door, so to let someone out of the back seat you have to take your seatbelt off, which is absurd.

Funny thing is the Element is the same way, but the concept Honda showed had the seat belt integrated into the seats, like in the Chrysler Sebring and some GM pickups. Much better execution.

FJ also has horrible blind spots, and wasn't as easy to climb in as the Element.

I liked the CX9 as much as you did, but the CX7 seemed a lot smaller than I expected so that disappointed me.

    GTI plaid looks awful. Agreed.

I also agree about the Ferrari stand, weakest I've ever seen from them. No brochures at all, either.

H2 was crowded when I was there. Must still be a lot of mobsters in NY. ;)

Navigator and Escalade both have cartoonishly large grilles. I'd go with the GMC version for that reason alone, or even a Tahoe. But GM was dumb not to put magic 3rd row seats in there.

I liked the Fit too. Space is incredible. Reminds me of the xB a little, but with less rear leg room and more cargo room.

The Fit is impressive. It uses space very well. It could definatley be good for a small family and will get 35 mpg doing it.

a white Range Rover Sport, light blue Bentley Continental GT. Also spotted 2 Chargers, in red and grey. Both were V6 models.

Wish I could visit the NY Auto Show. The Kuwait Auto Show wont come back here until 2007!!

Saw a typical trophy wife driving a new taxi yellow Hummer H3. Guess hubby must be an oil exec.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Not a brand new car, but today I spotted a black Bentley Azure cruising on I90, top down

Saw two new GTI's one after the other in New Paltz NY, one gray, one red.
Saw a beige Lucerne (rear end damage) back in NJ.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
    Nate,

R U a student there? It's always nice to meet a fellow hawk.
  • natenj1971natenj1971 Member Posts: 174
I grew up in New Paltz. My parents still live there. I was driving them home from Newark airport when I saw the GTi pair.
Could Main St be more crowded???
I've only seen a couple new GTi's down in NJ and days apart.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I graduated in 91. It's unbelievable how much the town has changed since then. It used to be a ghost town on weekends but now it like Times Square. I think it's been good for the town because there are nice shops and restaurants, but it's a different vibe.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Last time I was there was 1977! Anyway, I spotted three new cars at lunchtime: gray Dodge Charger with the 3.5 V-6, a blue Mustang convertible, and a gray Cadillac CTS.
  • natenj1971natenj1971 Member Posts: 174
I just saw a red new camry SE on 57th and third and for an instant through it was a BMW. It was a passenger side view. Not so crazy about that spoiler package but it does make the car look meaner.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...black Pontiac GTO. If GM's now selling these at fire sale prices, I'll take one!
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...black Ford 500 at lunchtime. One thing I'd change about it is to give it a Fusion-like grille. I don't care much for that black mesh look.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Dark blue Bentley Continental GT with camel colored interior.

Drops of a very nice looking woman who says she is picking up her Freelander.

    That just blows my mind.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Yeah I'd think someone with the taste of a Continental would choose better than a Freelander lol
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yeah the woman that dropped off was considerably younger then the male driver makes me wonder.

    Daughter maybe mistress possibly. ;)
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
The 500 gets the Fusion grill for either 2007 or 8, whenever they throw the 3.5 in there.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
Local Honda dealer got 5 2007 Honda Fit's on the lot today. One of each color except black and white ones. Kinda neat but I will still look at the Mazda5.

I saw my first Yaris 'on the street' last night, a nice-looking silver or silver-blue sedan.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Spotted a black Hyundai Azera and a light blue Hyundai Sonata yesterday.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Spotted a couple of these this weekend. I haven't seen as many around as I thought. I wonder if they have enough supply already.

    Daughter maybe mistress possibly
