Saw a Z4 myself, top up, parked across from GW Hospital. Near by was an RX8.

Neither is new, but they're still not very common around here.

On a drive from Long Island to NJ today, I saw two new Escalades, one black and one gold. I guess that despite the gad prices and ridiculous mark-up from the GMC Yukon Denali, people are still buying them.

I also saw an F-series Ford truck in what looked like it said a "King Ranch" package. I didn't know that such a package existed but this truck was sharp. It was a 2 door extended cab and had two tone paint, white above the trim line and bronze below. I liked it. It was huge and looked tough and classy at the same time.

Dealer down the street from me just got a pair of "Nascar Edition" F-150's. Massachusetts doesn't have a huge Nascar fanbase so I would imagine the line of people just itching to buy one of them will be very short.

So I am out in Indianapolis on business and I have seen in a last day a flying spur and a quattroporte. I was kinda surprised, they must be Eli Lilly execs or Pacers. Also went over to the race track for practice laps and saw a sky in the wild for the first time...
Oh yeah and Danica Patrick doing 220 20 feet from me. I had never been to an actual auto race and I was kind of blown away. The noise is so loud that the vibrations made me physically nauseaous... So cool.

Let's be careful about the tone of posts from time to time. Had to take down the last one, not because it wasn't true, but because it danced over that fuzzy edge... even with a key w**d disguised.

General rule of thumb: If you feel like you have to hide a word with ***'s, you probably should not make the post.

Silver S550 today...these are catching on here now a little more...growing on me ever so slightly
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
about a dozen new pig snout camrys so those are out as new cars.

I saw one Escalade in white and I was not impressed.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Silver FJ Cruiser, and a new Passat wagon
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    Bronzish colored Pontiac Grand Prix
    Black Dodge Caliber
    Black Infiniti QX56
    Silver "pig-nosed" Camry
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I'm starting to see a few Calibers. Those models with the big wheels (I guess they're AWD), just look silly. They look like roller skates to me.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
That is just it though as far as I know no Calibers are AWD.

    That is just stupid.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Civic coupe in silver, not an Si.

Then a blue FJ Cruiser. Boy do those grab attention.

Finally, a silver RAV4 pulled in to my parking lot. 2nd one in the building already.

The C & D review said that the Calibur would be offered in AWD but was not yet available.

    What is just stupid?
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
The last information I had about the caliber was that it would not be offeredin AWD. That is what I said was stupid.

If they have changed that position then that is good.

while at Subway, a white Bentley Continental. I was eating outside and had a good chance to really check it out, what a fabulous car.

Also spotted many H3s, in grey, yellow, red, white.

I actually saw a brand new 2006 Grand Marquis today. The first one I spotted.
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654
As for Phaetons, I haven't seen one on the road yet at all.

I saw my first and only Phaeton about 3 months ago. Tragically it was in New Orleans and it had been submerged in water completely in the driveway of their home!
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Lol, I see Grand Marquis every day, about 10-15! The new refresh is pretty tasteful on the outside. One thing I dont like about the Grand Marquis is the rear seat. I find it really small, with less room than my Camry.

As for Phaetons, they are very rare indeed. Since they came out, I've only seen somewhere between 5-10!

I saw a Ridgeline with a cap this morning.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
    How funky did that look?

Saw that same Maser Quatroppe last night. Finally found out that it belongs to the owner of a local restaurant
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Surprisingly unfunky. The cap does a nice job of rectifying the weird lines of the Ridgeline's bed.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
To me the weirdness lies in the fact that the tail gate does not line up with the sides of the bed. I'm sure that's for visibility, but it just looks off.

Saw what I thought was a redone/refreshioned silver corolla yesterday ...but on the trunk --> there is was KIA. You've come a long way baby!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The new Elantra is interesting, IMO it's one of the few new designs out of Korea that really doesn't look like something else. I was happy to see them design something uniquely theirs.

  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...about the Koreans - their cars looked like nobody elses. I dig the Kia Amanti because it is so funky. Who else would think to cross a Buick LeSabre with an E-Class front end with a Chrysler grille? Cool! Shoot, even the Kia Optima has a look all its own and nobody offers anything like the Tiburon.

Now Hyundai comes along and virtually copies a Honda Accord and an older Toyota Camry! Feh!

Here is Houston, that '06 GM is only 1 out of 2 '06's I have seen. I see dozens on the previous year.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
    Exactly.

The owner of the Italian place across the street from me has one.

    Stunning car.

So 120,000 for a top of the line Quattroporte Exectutive GT with a nearly 400 hp Ferrari engine or...

An A8 for about the same money a little more HP but boring looking.

A 7 Series and XJR can be had for about the same money but only the XJR is near as sexy.

The S-class costs more and is about as common as a Honda Civic in some parts of the country.

I know what I would buy with my money.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,587
Well.. maybe... If it was just the $120K..

And, you.... working at a Land Rover store might not think twice about it... but, how much do you think it is going to cost to maintain that Maserati? Most 4-doors aren't weekend cars that you take out when it is sunny... A car like that will probably be driven 10K-20K miles/yr...

Those Italian cars... Don't they use Extra Virgin Olive Oil at $50/qt.? ;)

At least with the BMW, the only thing you'll pay for in the next four years is tires....

During all the traffic I was in today while on the way to the mall, I spotted the redesigned Saab 9-5, the new Yukon and Tahoe, a new Caliber, and the 07 redesigned Lincoln Navigator. The grille wasn't a bad as it looked in pictures. In fact because of the grille, I immediately knew it was an 07.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...of Smart cars at a Montgomery County Mercedes dealer. One looked as if it was supposed to be a Smart pickup.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...two Toyota FJ Cruisers - one blue with a white top and the other black with a white top and also a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,345
A red with black fade hemi decals, so I guess that was an R/T. Just before that, a bright Yellow Daytona. That one was hard to miss.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

I had a nice long view of a white Gallardo spyder (top up, Mass. Plates) at a light this morning on the way to work. I have no idea what someone is doing driving a Lambo in Manhattan on a Monday morning in the rain. A white one no less. I think these are barely out yet in the states so I thought it was a good sighting
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
That wouldn't surprise me. Infiniti has this technology out now that mounts cameras in multiple locations around the vehicle to give you some vision to make up for their poor body designs.

Land Rover had a concept a couple of years ago called Land_e that had clear composite built into the lower portions of the doors and front/rear fenders to give better visibility. :D Maybe not very practical but useful when driving off-road or in a tight spot.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I saw maybe half a dozen 07 Escalades today, so those are now off the "new car" list. Also spotted a Mazda 5, only the second one I've seen on the road.

Not new, but I saw 2 XLRs today...I see about 30 current SLs for every XLR, so that was unsual.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Spotted a Yaris hatch tonight...not bad save for the wannabe-Camry nose. That center instrument cluster still seems wrong to be though
  • jcat707jcat707 Member Posts: 169
Today I saw a Honda Fit and a Jaguar X-Type wagon. That was the first X-type wagon I've ever seen in public and from the rear, it looks exactly like the old Volvo V40.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,587
What a coincidence... I saw my first X-type wagon, yesterday...

It does have a resemblance to the Volvo from the rear.. but, I think it is much better looking, overall..

It has better lines than the sedan... Doesn't look as small..

a white Dodge Charger SXT and a white Range Rover Sport.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I saw my first Honda Fit on the road yesterday. It was a total base model. It's remarkable how lame it can look without the body accents and alloy wheels. I thought that the one I saw at the auto show looked really sharp, but this one was a total wallflower.
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654
I have spotted 2 Yaris sedans today. I agree about that center instrument cluster. That would make me (if I was in the market for a new car) not even consider it.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Interestingly saw my first of each on the same day. The Yaris was a hatch.

I think a lot of wall street bonuses were sitting in money market accounts waiting for the S550 to come out. They are literally everywhere now. I saw one last night next to a Maybach 57 and I have to say presence wise they are about equal. Makes the maybach look like an even bigger waste of money.
