...I was washing my 1988 Buick Park Ave in front of the house and I see this young twenty-something dude in a silver metallic Cadillac CTS-V! Wow, he must be doing pretty well!

I was on the Long Island Expressway (I-495) for about 45 minutes yesterday evening, and as usual for summer Sunday evenings the westbound lanes were filled with expensive vehicles coming back from a weekend in the Hamptons. There were a few unusual sightings in addition to the typical array of Range Rovers, 7-Series and S-Classes: a very new-looking G55 (grey market?), a black Q45 (which I initially mistook for an A8), and an Elise. Speaking of A8's, I must've seen at least a dozen of them, it looks as if the 7-Series is facing some tough competition from the Hamptons crowd.
The most amusing sighting, during a brief traffic slowdown that allowed me a good look, was a CLK 320 (one of four that I saw) with the personalized license plate "OFF CALL." It was driven by a 60-ish man with a very hot blonde in her early 20's in the passenger seat. I guess there's only one question to ask: mistress or trophy wife ;)

Yep he must be....OTOH I did see a 04-06 Black Acura TL leave the plant the other day with tinted windows. It was very sharp !!!!!

He watched me almost get cut off by a guy in a Sebring which I posted in the inconsiderate drivers forum. The SSR was very cool and the guy gave me a thumbs up because he saw the almost accident take place. The SSR had the LS-2 and was very cool. I will be sad to see this very cool retro car be axed.

...not sure if it was new, but it is uncommon - red Acura NSX.

I was up in Bedford NY this weekend which is a wealthy suburb on NY in westchester county. If you live there you probably don't know that you can get a car for less than $40k or one built in the states b/c I saw none from either category.
Coolest was the New Z4 M convertible. That had to be one of the first in the states.
A vanquish passed me on a fun country road... I was very jealous
A kid (20 yr old) I know up there just got a Z3 M Coupe by putting himself into debt for the next 5 years. I thought this was dumb unil I got a ride in it and now all I can think of is why I haven't done that yet... It is sooo fast

Fit isn't new, it's about 6 years old I've heard. So it really corresponds to the last generation of Honda design.

Ironically, I like it better than most current Hondas. In some ways, the more simple, honest, straight forward design is better than the newer designs that seem to try too hard (Civic's instruments, for instance).

Interior size is what impresses me. I swear it has as much space as the gigantic FX45.

I saw a Pontiac Torrent today, so they've sold one anyway!

    Also form a distance I thought I saw a Lucerne with no portholes...but it was a Q45
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Actually, I think the Torrent is better-looking than the Equinox. Funny about mistaking a Q45 for a Lucerne. I recall seeing the TV commercial for the Lucerne and thinking, "Wow! That looks like a really nice Infiniti! Cadillac's in trouble!" I was quite surprised when it turned out to be the Lucerne!
  • prosaprosa Member Posts: 280
I've seen a parked one, but never one actually being driven. It was about 15 minutes ago heading uptown on Hudson Street in Manhattan, a silver model occupied by two middle-aged women. Most likely they had come in from New Jersey through the Holland Tunnel. Parked, a SMART looks strange but otherwise vehicle-like; in motion, it looks, well, not like any other vehicle I've seen before ;)
As the SMART passed me I got a look at the license plates, figuring it would be from Canada; to my surprise, it had Illinois manufacturer plates.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Both of those little soft-roaders seem like runts to me. And that engine...sorry, I could never go there.

I really don't mind the Lucerne, it is so much nicer than that it replaced. Unfortunately, it will likely woo only existing customers.

Not new, but rare...a Maybach 57. There is was riding along in rush hour traffic on 95th Street in Oak Lawn (for you Chicago folks). It was one of those 2-tone jobs.

one of those Chrysler 300 4 door convertibles, on the road and driving around. Saw it first with the top up. Not quite right at the back (IMO), but still better than a SOlstice!

Also saw it with the top down, and it looked real good that way.

Passed a gold Prowler early yesterday evening.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I saw a new S class in grey today. Not so unusual (as I saw a black one about 5 minutes later) but the grey one wore those 800-spoke alloys MB has had for a few years now. It didn't look right somehow.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
There are few Prowlers running around the Hershey area, but only when the Temp or day is perfect. I still think Chrysler had a good car, but either neede more power or less $$$ for what it had.

Saturn Sky. Very, very nice, prefer it to the Solstice.

  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
Much nicer than the Solstice. Side by side, the Solstice looks downright chintzy. The Sky looks like something to pull up at the country club driving. The Solstice looks like a girl's car.

Speaking of Prowlers, I saw a purple on e over the weekend, with the matching trailer. Still quite the eye catcher...

And I actually saw a Crossfire! I think those are about as rare as the Prowler.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...spotted a Cadillac SRX, Buick Rendezvous, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a Hummer H2 in that order at lunch today. What did they all have in common? They were all driven by women.
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654

Not really. In the past week here (Houston, Tx) I have seen 4 Crossfires 1 Black(my fav) 2 Silver and 1 White (first time to see a white one) I haven't seen a Prowler a couple of months and it was Yellow.

a black Mazdaspeed 6 at the Jersey Shore on Friday. On the exterior design why does the radiator have to be so big? The radiator design almost takes up the whole bottom of the front end.

Oh yeah also saw a new Black Ford Fusion with new car dealer tags at the Jersey Shore too. I was like wow thats nice looking for a Ford!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Oddly enough I saw one this weekend as well. They're very rare, even though they're not new and were actually discontinued long ago!
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
When I saw my first Fusion, I thought the taillights looked alot like the last model year Prelude.

I agree, it really is a breath of fresh air from GM. It looks like sorta like a baby Corvette, that can't hurt Saturn at all!

...first Yaris I've seen on the street - this one was a green low-end sedan, (plastic hubcaps).
  • carguy58carguy58 Member Posts: 2,303
"When I saw my first Fusion, I thought the taillights looked alot like the last model year Prelude."

No that wasn't the last model years Prelude that the tailights of the Fusion remind you of. The 92-96 Prelude was the second to last generation of Prelude. The 97-01 or 02(forgot what exact model year the Prelude got discontinued)was the last generation of Prelude.

As a matter of fact doesn't the Front of the Fusion remind anybody of the 97-01 or 02 Preludes front end? They are very close looking resemblance wise in terms of headlights design. The grille design of the 97-01 Prelude and Fusion are very different though.

Mazda CX-7 in copper red mica in Secaucus NJ. It was weird looking in person, like the Murano was strange to see when it was first released.

    I saw a goodie today:

And not 10 minutes later I saw a 300SL roadster! A different one than the one I've seen previously.

Donald Trump drove up in one during an episode of the last Apprentice (pretty much the only good part of the whole series :) ), my jaw dropped to the floor.

Anyone see the story about the guy who bought one of these and it died on him after he drove it 4 miles? Most expensive lemon of all time I guess. Kinda funny...
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
And to make the day complete I saw what I assume was a F430 Spider. Nice rash of cars today. I also saw 2 new S-class and maybe 5 CLS...I need to become a MB salesman.
  • prosaprosa Member Posts: 280

The Fusion's grille reminds me of a new multiblade razor - sorry, "shaving system" - from Gillette ;)

Nice pictures! I have never seen one on the road, the only one I saw was on a car carrier. It was silver.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Rare, yes, but also quite ugly. How could they put that nose on the car? Reminds me of this guy...

    image

That is seriously the ugliest supercar ever. Well, it gives the old Consulier a run for its money.

The owner can't park either, what a tool.

I think that car is hot. Batman could drive it with no modifications. I never do this either, but if it was mine, I'd probably take up two spots as well. At least it was in the back of the lot.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I don't like the nose either. It's a strange looking car, reminds me of a bird.

    I do like the exhaust.

Now I need to find in a parking lot the Enzo I saw last year.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
But he didn't really take up the two spots, not enough that a compact car wouldn't park right next to it and end up giving it a door ding. It just looks like he came in crooked.

FWIW, most Batmobiles were ugly, too.

New Jab XK(?) convertible, and a Yaris sedan.

    Also a Bentley COntinental GT.

The most famous Batmobile was based on the old Lincoln Futura concept from the 1950s and modified by George Barris.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, but that's for a cartoon character.

Plus, the batmobile was scary to kids. The SLR looks...comical.

I showed my daughter and she laughed. I pointed out the resemblance to Squidward (a character on Sponge Bob Square Pants) and she LOST IT! :D

    Black Bently Continental sedan... Whoa.

About a million new body RAV4's. Not really but there are certainly a ton of them out there.

A yellow Acura MDX. Yes, a yellow one... I believe it was the "Spa Yellow" used on the S2000
