Today I saw both a Buick Terazza and a Saturn Relay. They were both from a distance, so I couldn't tell if they were private cars or not. So, they've sold 2 of them anyway! Maybe this should be in the "I wouldn't be caught dead" thread...

I saw my first Caliber today, in black. Kind of like a teeny tiny SUV in style...I suspect these will do pretty well, I think there's a market for it
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
...2007 Mercedes S-class was spotted Friday. Unfortunately, I was getting in the elevator of the parking garage at work and didn't have time to check it out. The trunk (the only angle I saw) looked vaguely Bangle-esque, though far more restrained (not so 'afterthought' looking, IMO).

Have you seen the Acura RDX ? Honda obviously agrees. Hell those smaller SUV's offer decent interior room, while saving the driver a few bucks at the pump. The RDX looks sporty and appears to have a good suspension that should give it sport/lux sedan driving characteristics. Unfortunatly GM doesn't have one yet. The Enclave is a little to large, and I'm not sure how big the next Envoy/Trailblazer will be. What I'd like to see is a return of a GMC Syclone/Typhoon edition. Of course a bit larger but just as kick butt. ;)

That's just a concept though, right? If it becomes real, I'll see lots of em here...that demographic is huge where I live, I swear I see a million Lexus RX a day.

I saw my first new Escalade in the flesh today...certainly an improvement, but I don't care for the odd jig in the windowline near the C-pillar/end of the rear door. It's disjointed.

took my daughter to a BDay party at an indoor soccer place (they also have indoor lacrosse, and a baseball academy). Happened to glance around the parking lot, and at 1 time, I could see 4 Range Rovers! 1 new sport, the other 3 seemed to be current generation normal models.

2 I know who they belonged to, since they are in the family of friends of my daughter, but still odd to see that many in one place. Made my Accord seem uncommon in this lot!

two new RAV4s, in silver and white.

And on the highway, I saw what I believe was a 1960s Ferrari Dino on the highway. Im not very good with older cars, but I really liked the classic Ferrari lines.

I guess the RDX isn't a concept. I'll keep my eyes out.

I saw another Lucerne this morning, it really is the best looking Buick in some time. Also a Maserati sedan, which shares some cues with the Buick. A CLS55 AMG and the local guy who commutes in a DB9 is driving it again, as the weather has improved.

Saw a Ford GT in Midnight Blue on NY State Thruway on Sunday late morning. I was driving north and could not miss the blue bullet sans stripes speeding south.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...a white Mercedes S550 in Newtown, PA. Nice car, but it was parallel parked between two SUVs near a bar on St. Patrick's day. The owner must have a lot of guts and bucks.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,341
Had my first ride in one on Saturday (passenger, not driver). It is surprisingly nice inside. If I was in the market, I would certainly check it out.

Saw one on the highway saturday... didn't really like it, it can't decide if it is a hatchback or a dakota pickup truck. Sorry Chrysler, don't change sedans to hatches. You either Subaru, don't think I haven't heard those WRX Hatch for the next generation rumors.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
RDX, I'm not sure when "we'll" see one, but I do think it will be a awesome vehicle. I heard it was coming this fall. I'd also like to know "how much" I wished they'd slap a 6 speed manuel in it and it would be
"BA BA BA Bad, Bad to the Bone" ;)

I am of the opinion that all vehicles should be avaliable with a 6 speed manual.

But then I heel and toe downshift in my MINI for fun.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...black CTS-V in Newtown, PA. Nice. Newtown is a good place to go to spot upscale rides. I also saw a Porsche 911 turbo and a Mercedes S550 there. The kids drive around in beater 5 and 7-Series BMWs. Probably Mom and Pops old rides. The Chevrolet dealer has more Corvettes and Tahoes than other vehicles. I spotted one lone Impala and no Cobalts or Malibus.

Saturn Relay. How long have these been out ? I am guessing a year.

Also,my first Caliber. I like it's looks alot better in the wild than I did at the auto show.

The first one I've seen up close -- bright red with a black top, 18-inch chromed alloys. Sharp!

I saw a current/facelift Altima "SE-R" today. Are these rare? I've never noticed that trim level before.

..I work near a Toyota parts distribution facility, so there are always a lot of new Toyotas with MFR tags around.. It looks a lot like the new Sonata from the rear...

It's something Nissan whipped out a year or two ago: a V6 Altima with a slightly tigher suspension and a few more ponies out of the VQ35. It's not a real SE-R.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I like it, but it's probably too understated for today's market. Ironically, they run the ads touting it as the official car of funky town and the car is practically bling-less.

With is monochromatic paint, dark wheels and spoiler that's actually lower profile than the standard spoiler, it should have been positioned as a no-nonsense bruiser. The Impala SS even has more bling. Throwing in the 280 hp version of the 3.5 would have helped the no-nonsense image.

New model Camry SE in a sharp Midnight blue color, rear wing, larger wheels. subtle ground effects. Wow, I can't believe I found a Camry sexy. Nice looking car. Also a couple of new GTI's and new Passat's.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...maroon Chevrolet Impala and maroon Lincoln Mark LT truck.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
black Toyota RAV4, white Hyundai Azera, and two Yaris (Yarii??) in red and white.

Also a previous generation BMW M5 in dark blue. I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for the new one.....
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,341
on a local back road on my way to work. Not where I expected to see one!

Also saw a new local Porsche yesterday. Couldn't quite read the tag, but from the back it looked like a GT2 (?) Is that the one that is basically a hot rodded Carerra?

whatever it was, I wanted it!

New RAV 4's are ridiculously common around here. I swear every other vehicle I see is a new model. Makes the Highlander look like a rare bird!
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
that I also saw an orange Range Rover Sport. The driver just blasted across the highway lanes weaving in and out.

I see a ton of restyled Grand Marquis everyday. Probably 10 today alone. The rear spoiler makes them look pretty good.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Saw one of each yesterday.

Saturn Sky last night. It was dark so kind of hard to tell but did not look like the front end of the solstice at all.

    Are the Skys out yet?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yes, I drove by a Saturn dealer today and the sign outside said "Sky is here".

Is it just me or does the R-Class look like an oversized Scion Xa.

In some ways they are similar, I guess, but I perceive the R-class as rounded off overall, whereas the xA is boxier and with more edges. Put it this way, it's half-way between the R-class and the xB.

Ate lunch out, so I saw a lot of new cars...

Malibu Maxx: new front is better, still not as nice as the original Opel.

    325i

    Pathfinder

    2 XTerras

Uplander: that nose still looks awkward to me

Pilot: new one with the chrome grille looks like they put braces on the old one

750: face-lift is only slightly less ugly

    Sonata: very common nowadays

...spotted a black SLK350 and a silver CLK.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
    for spotting cars.

First off, I saw two Range Rover Sport parked at an upscale restaurant. One was black, the other orange.

I also saw two Grand Vitaras, both in beige. Two H3s as well both in black. And about 4-5 Hyundai Sonatas today, in beige, white, silver, grey. They sure are gaining popularity.

And as a nice finish to the day I saw a silver DB9 and a black Cayman, my first one yet.
  • prosaprosa Member Posts: 280
Saw my first one just a little while ago. It was (a) bigger and (b) more attractive than I had thought.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Was it really orange or was it more of a red color?

Only 100 something Vesivius Orange Range Rover Sports were brought into the US so if you saw one then that is a very rare automobile.

The Rimini Red under certain lighting conditions looks like a Supercharged Vesivuius Sport sometimes.

I spotted a Black I-Roc Z-28 ;) The hillbilly didn't take care of it either. I was very  since they are becoming very rare. It was a 5.7 TPI to boot.

I saw the new S class up very close last night. The driver was pulling out and we talked for a moment about it. He was young guy and was VERY proud of it. It's huge for starters, definitely Mayback length (57 at least) and form the rear that is what it resembles. The wheel arches don't make any sense with the form but aren't as silly looking in person. The wheels this particular one had were awesome, they reminded me of M3 wheels. The interior is very jewel like. He was backing up and the rear view camera was being shown on about a 10" screen in high def. It was a much better image than I have seen on them before. Just gorgeous inside really. I'll still take an A8 instead though and buy a WRX with what I saved.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    ..black 2007 Cadillac Escalade.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I saw a new Mercedes S550 (not up close, it was in a parking garage and I was getting on the elevator) the other day, a new Hyundai Azzera (I liked it, but it looks dated somehow, perhaps it's too roundy--in any case, lots better than the XG it replaces, though), MANY new Hyundai Sonatas and quite a few new Lexus GS, too.

As an aside, I do find the Azzera commercials irritating, where they compare Azzera's interior room to the BMW 760i (which isn't even sold in NA), as if anyone is cross-shopping the two. Why not just compare it to its natural rivals (Avalon, the two Buick sedans, Ford 500, maybe the ES330 or TL as even a bit of a stretch)?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
a Buick Lucerne yesterday. Has that big open-mouth front end, looks like a Chrysler 300M from the side and a Jetta from the rear.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
a silver Porsche Carrera S and an orange Toyota Yaris.

Also two Hummer H3s in yellow and black.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I saw an 07 Camry today...the sides are OK, but that sure is an ugly nose. Pig-schnozz. Toyota and styling, they just don't get along.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
They are pretty darn neat if you ask me. I can't wait until I get a chance to see a new Slade and Denali. :shades:

Saw my first Yaris sedan out on a test drive. Doesn't look as good in person as it did in photos. It's sort of tall and pointy-nosed, not unlike the front-end of the new Camry.

Saw a new Camry, too, and I agree with fintail about that schooze. I'd seen it at a car show but this was the first out on the street.

Saw my 2nd Caliber. Showed my wife, and she didn't really like it much. Too bad the SRT-4 won't come with the AWD option.

Finally, saw one of the new Devilles. It's hard to distinguish from the old one, as the design hasn't really changed much in, oh, 18 years or so.

a Mazda 5 and a Caliber, both in owners hands. I have seen a few 5s, but not that often.

I have seen enough S class models now that they are old hat.
