I saw these all around the University of Washington campus in Seattle, all in one day:

2 gold GL SUVs, they're HOT

    1 new silver S550

    3-4 old S-classes

and 3-4 Honda S2000s, strange seeing how I rarely see them and now in one day, in one area, I see multiple S2000s

Saw a nice Aston Martin DB7 convertible in light blue.

Lots of Scion TCs (we don't have them in Canada).

...a black Ford Edge. Heck, this lumpy crossover thingie is about as edgy as a butter knife used to slice a piece of granite.

I saw a grey CL550 today, the first I have seen on the road. I'll take one, please.

I spotted a Ford Edge. It was dark so I couldn't see much but I immediately recognized what it was. Looked nice from what little I saw.

I saw my first Gen II BMW X5, or is it X5/v 2.0.
It looked just like the gray one seen in the Nurburgring commercial, very nice and oddly doesn't look any bigger than the v 1s.

When the X5 first came out I thought it didn't look as nice as the contemporary E39 5-series Touring (wagon). FWIW the new one looks much nicer than the Bangleized E60 Touring.

I've seen one on the roads, and also think it looks better than the old model. Good update.

2007 Sentra and a 2007 Tundra 5.7L crew cab. The Tundra is hilariously chunky, and actually manages to make GM's new trucks look almost svelte.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...black Mercury Montego. I got to drive a new Fusion last night. My girlfriend likes the car, but I think her current LaCrosse is a nicer car with better features.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
First one I've seen with steelies. They actually styled the wheels so they sort of look like alloys, even though they're not.

Previous models had some seriously ugly steelies, these look much better.

That's something competitors like the Forester and RAV4 have been doing all along. Who says a steel wheels has to look bad?

PS Also saw an RD-X yesterday

One of the "features" on my '77 Cobra II..

Styled Steel Wheels.. came with trim rings and center caps... woo hoo!!

I saw both in the village last night about a block apart. I always try and see who is in them (usually without success due to the curtains). One of these passenger's actually had some kind of spot light on his face, I guess he really wanted people to see him being driven around.
Also saw a 60's Mustang fastback and an M5

    150 km/h ? Hey that's just over 90mph. What happened.......gearbox jammed in 2nd ?

Was watching an old episode of Top Gear recently where one of the guys was tooling a Bentley Arnage along a desert highway at between 160 and 180 mph.................and looking very relaxed as he did so. :)
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
There is at least one Rx400 Hybrid taxi in NY. I thought that was an odd choice.
Usually they highly regulate what cab drivers can use but they seem to have exceptions if you are willing to buy a much nicer car than the crown vics that fill the ranks. I also saw a Merc E350 a few years ago.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Escape hybrids are more common. They use a bunch of those.

Hybrid makes sense for stop-n-go city driving.

But a luxury SUV does not. :lemon:

Warm dry day here today, got behind and alongside a new unplated DB9, sounded very nice...the driver was concentrating very hard, so it looked - death grip on the wheel and never moving his head. Also a new Jag convertible with a weird looking older woman driving it.

    I also saw a modified W203 C-class badged "S666"
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...spotted last night - black Impala SS followed by a yellow Corvette convertible with a black top.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    ...red Jeep Compass.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw one yesterday while going home. Oddly it almost seems bigger than the Sentra.

    Hey.. me too!!

From the back, they do look narrower, though..

Compared to the Fit and Yaris, the Versa seems Lexus-like in its interior appointments... I think I could give up 2-4 highway MPG to get the extra creature comforts of the Versa.. and, I'm really not much of a Nissan fan...

Plus the base engine is a 1.8l, and you can get a 6 speed.

It's a shame they didn't tune it for sportier driving.

Imagine a Versa SE-R, with a 2.0l or so engine, and the same 6 speed manual? I'd be test driving one, that's for sure.

Tundras, Tundras, Tundras. I pass a few of them each day and one of the guys here at work just bought a 5.7 DC over the weekend. They seem to be really taking off.

Followed a Toyota Prius home from work yesterday that was tagged with a bumper sticker "Voltswagen". Got a chuckle out of it.

Does the new Mercedes E-class come in a coupe version? I could swear that is what I saw this morning... :surprise:

A CL maybe? Or a CLK, or an SL, or an SLK? I can't keep the alphabet soup of recent MB models straight either.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
Nope, the CLK is the closest thing size-wise.

The big new CL550 is just beginning to hit the streets here, maybe it was one of those?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
Maybe the CL550.. I passed it on the fly.. I see CLK models every day, so I don't think that's it...

Also, saw a CLS today... I'm kind of over that look... Either make a coupe... or a nice looking sedan (like a Jag).. Just not digging the 4-door coupe.

I am not into the CLS either. They are eyecatching, but I wouldn't want one every day. I am too tall, and those windows are too short.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
The CL-coupe is 8.5" longer than the E-class... The CLK-coupe is 8.5" shorter..

Maybe it was a CL.. I'm sure it wasn't a CLK..

Finally saw my first Ford Edge on the road.

    Also saw a Lincoln clone.

Both look OK, but I can't help but wonder why they're so big outside without even a 3rd row option.

A new G35 passed me today, boy does it look good. Evolutionary, but they fixed it in all the right places.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I agree with you on both counts. The Edge just looks so damn porky. How did it baloon to 4500 pounds?

The last gen G is a sweet ride and they made the new one even nicer inside, out and under the hood. That's a car to lust after.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Look at how much better the packaging for the Freestlye is. Too bad it's a bit dull.

I wouldn't mind having Freestyle space with Edge styling.

    -juice
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I always liked the Freestyle, even though it's not a huge seller for Ford.

As a recreational vehicle, or a family wagon, I wouldn't hesitate getting one. The Pacifica is also another one I like.

I spotted a new CX-7 in traffic, it's bigger than
I thought it would be. I was sure I was looking at a CX-9
but the badge told me otherwise.

It looked Murano-sized, very handsome in silver.

So hard to tell those two apart (CX7 and CX9).

A couple more of these. Saw an old one and a new one side-by-side, and while subtle, the improvements are very significant. It's quite a handsome sedan now, making the old one look just a tad awkward.

I also see 1-2 MDXs every day now. It's gotta be outselling the RDX because I only see those once a week or so.

Also saw a Mistu Outlander. Seems tiny for a 3 row crossover.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
In San Juan PR of all places. I saw a bunch of 4 door wranglers down there as well. back in NYC I saw the Black S8 that parks in my office again, also two phantoms out the window this morning
  • matthattan1587matthattan1587 Member Posts: 53
I spotted a new GMC Acadia parking on my block, GMC really hit the mark on this one, good looking vehicle. I also saw the new Lincoln MKZ and Ford Edge...I don't really like the styling of these two.

I have seen multiple Mazda CX-7's and a Cx-9. The CX-7 is a good looking vehicle, the front looks very sharp. The CX-9 is more like a large minivan, think they should have just made the CX-7.

Lastly I have seen some new Altimas out there, not a big fan of these either, liked the older Altimas better and a brand new Ford Escape, it looked sharp, but pictures of its cousin the Mazda Tribute looks even better!
  • matthattan1587matthattan1587 Member Posts: 53
I have seen this lexus RX400 on the FDR Drive, it is the only one in NYC. Yesterday in Union Sq I saw a brand new Toyota Prius Cab!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They needed the CX9 to replace the MPV.

The CX7 is very small, much too small for someone who would be shopping for a people mover. I ruled it out for its small size.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
Mazda doesn't have a regular mini-van, anymore? I guess I missed that.. :surprise:

Nope, last year was the final year for the MPV.

They sandwiched it between the small Mazda5 and the big CX9.

I should take a closer look at the CX9. Saw it at the DC auto show but don't remember much about it (that's not a good sign...).
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
Take all the sport out of a CX-7 and add some pork and you have the CX-9... amazingly generic...

No mini-van? What a marketing mistake.. :surprise:

MPV couldn't sell even with a $4000 rebate, $18k for an LX! :surprise:

I'm sure they make more profit per car selling a $26,000 crossover.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,531
Assuming they can move the minivan driver to an SUV.. I'm guessing that they lose about 90% of them..

The MPV was 4 years behind the times on size... Even Kia and Hyundai can sell full-size minivans... How is that for an oxymoron!!?? ;)

Well, they weren't many MPV customers, so they didn't have much to lose in the first place.

The crossover should do similar volume at a much higher price level, and that would still be a success for Mazda.
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654
Actually I thought they both did.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
have seen many of the revamped Altimas around these parts. Sharp looking redesign IMO.

Also the MDX and RDX seem to be selling about equal, I see a few during my commute to work and back.

At the local Starbucks where I get my coffee in the morning, I saw a couple of contractors trucks from the same business parking in the back row. 2 new Tundras and a third pulled in while I was waiting in line. Glad to see those trucks are selling well.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Guess so. They never got rid of the Tribute, so the CX7 and CX9 sandwiched the old MPV.

Got a $25 certificate (gift card) offer from Mazda so I may go drive a CX9 soon.
