just let me drive his new carrera s. about 250 miles on it.
i was nervous! the clutch was pretty easy to get used to, and i liked the short throw shift. hearing the engine from the back felt unusual.

new (upcoming) Hyundai Veracruz SUV. This is the bigish 7 seater, supposed to compete with the Pilot/Lexus/Mdx/B9, etc. Fairly large, super nice interior, looked quite upscale.

I think the are supposed to be out in the spring sometime. A guy I know works for Hyundai corporate and was driving it, so I got to sit in the thing. You could stick a lexus label on it and plenty of people would believe it.

...at least three Saturn Auras - one black, one silver, another bronze-colored. They seem to be off to a good start in the Philly market.

I like the rear view of the new MDX but that grill is so goofy it kills me. The old one was a somewhat boring but exceedingly competent and competitive X5 fighter (at least on paper) The new one looks like it's in a jousting competition at Medieval times with that shield motif!

I have seen a bunch of Nitros around as well and they look ok. Not sure why they need to exist though, and those macho commercials are dumb.

Silver Phantom RR at lunch today, most road presence of any car by far...

I agree. I'm not really sure why not only the Nitro but also the Compass and Patriot even exist.

Seems like I see a couple of MB R Class vans a day now, pretty common around here.

Saw a gold Maserati Qauttroporte today.

Also saw a red F430 driving in the rain (I think it's the same driver I saw a few weeks ago).

And for the first time I saw a Jeep Compass. Totally unappealing to me. I especially don't like the way the front bumper is molded, just screams of cheapness. But then again for $20k it will probably appeal to some who always wanted a Jeep.

You know, the thing I really don't like is actually how the rear bumper is molded with "Compass" in it. That looks especially cheap/tacky to me.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Yuck who would buy a gold Quattroporte.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Lol the police hardly care if someone speeds, which is why most do.

The best place to really blast a car to top speed would be on the desert highway leading to Saudi Arabia where there almost no cars. I've travelled thats stretch doing 150 km/h.

Gray Lincoln MKZ. I've been seeing a lot of Saturn Auras lately.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
Nuff said... sexy although the mags and reviewers have been trashing the M6. I would get a 335 and an A8 for the same money myself.

I agree by the way that one of the worst features of the compass is that stupid rear bumper with the logo in it.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I think the whole car just looks cheap and plasticky. Like one of those molded cheap toy cars that you see in dollar stores.

Saturn Sky this morning. The top looks as awful as everyone says- like an incompetently-assembled pup tent.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
An Outlook and a G6 convertible. Also saw my first G5, but all unsold.

Outlooks was very nice, solid, but awful visibility with wide pillars and a high rear hatch. 2nd and 3rd row seats were uncomfortable as well. Steering and ride, plus engine and trans, all quite impressive.

G6 was not nearly as impressive dynamically, but had great visibility for a convertible. So it was the exact opposite. :D

New Chrysler Sebring. Don't like the looks at all. The tailights are all round, the front end is wedgy, and has those lines on the hood, really odd looking car. I'm surprised that the same company that brought out the 300C and the Charger, could come up with such an inconsistent design.

Our district service rep is driving a white one. It doesn't have a roof rack which makes it look incomplete. I hope that they will have one when they get here.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
a 2007 Honda CRV in white, my first one. Looks very different from the 10 years of bland and boxy CR-Vs. Also saw a blue Evo racing down the highway.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
That car is ridiculously bad. With the Crossfire pretty much a flop, why did they borrow so many styling cues from it for the Sebring. Chrysler seriously needed this car to do well as it's a better bet as a mass market car than the 300, but the Sebring is DOA.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I totally agree with you. I saw one a few days ago, and nothing looks right about it.

I'd get a Kia Optima over this any day.

I agree too...the car needs more rear overhang. Then it wouldn't look so bad.
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
    Just look at this mess:

    image

What were they thinking? In the new C&D, this car came in dead last. The Kia Optima placed a respectable third behind the Altima and Accord and ahead of the Camry.

This is 100 times nicer looking than the Sebring:

    image

I mean, even the Malibu looks better than the Sebring.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I agree, the Sebring is a miss. That thing will be in rental fleets ... well, it probably already is!

I don't even like the new Sebring convertible. And I may need a 4 seat 'vert to replace the Miata. :(

Saw a new CR-V at lunch today.

That thing is really dis-jointed. Just looks cobbled together. Really, it almost looks as if the rear doors on back were grafted onto a different car from the drivers door on up.

Whomever designed this must have had some weird hardpoints that he/she had to meet up with. Yuck.

Wow, that's harsh. Call me a minority as I actually like the new Sebring. Took one for a spin at the NE auto show and found it to be a solid and substantial ride. It was quiet, smooth and competent. And the polarizing looks are unique in that they don't look like anything else in its class. it isn't as sleek as say, a Mazda6 but I think it could be much worse.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
Today going to grab a sandwich (only two blocks away) I saw a New XKR Coupe (awesome, I really like the new XKs) a Ford Edge, Audi S8 (the new Lambo engined one) and a Black Flying Spur. That's three firsts for me, not bad for a days work.
  • chuck1959chuck1959 Member Posts: 654

Why not? I love the hardtop convert option. The design looks a lot better than the old one. Looks like there is more back seat room.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Inside I even like the old one. I'm sure the new one would be OK.

I'm not crazy about the stripes on the hood or the headlights. It's not like they're a deal killer, but I don't find it attractive.

but two new Chrysler Aspens! Also what appeared to be a Nissan Versa sedan (had no idea they were making that version). Combine that with a gazillion new RAV4's and CRV's and I'd say it was a slow evening for spotting. :(
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Was it the new Sentra? They look alike now.

Saw an MDX and then a white BMW 3 series coupe.

    Seen recently,

Ford Edge not bad looking, several were on display at the preview to the Barrett-Jackson Auction. I suspect they'll become invisible in a short time.

Mercedes R-Class seem to be all over Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa, for some reason they're all black. My wife says they don't look expensive enough to be Benzes. I think she's right, an E-class wagon looks a lot classier.

Audi Q7 I can't wrap my head around the concept of an ugly Audi but I'm not the only one, the Q7 seems to be a pretty rare bird. IMO it's the least good looking of the Cayenne/Toureg family. To my eyes the Toureg is the best looking.... go figure.

In the non-CUV category I saw a couple of new 328i coup[es and a convertible that was probably a 335ci. They look just as good as the photos suggest. BMW is moving away from Banglization and back to clean, understated but handsome styling.. Hooray! :)

...red Mazda MX5 Miata and red Honda S2000. I must see at least 20 Miatas to each S2000. S2000s are scarce around here.
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
from a ten day stay in the Netherlands and I saw some pretty interesting rides. The new Volvo S80 is all over the place, and it looks great. I also saw a white BMW M coupe, my very first one. It also looks much better than the Z4 roadster. Those small mini European city cars were everywhere. Some of them are pretty nice, like the Seat Leon and Ibiza.

Also spotted two Bentley Continentals and some other vehicles that you wouldn't expect to find in Europe, such as a Mustang GT, Trailblazer, Yukon, Suburban, Windstar, Sienna, and two Navigators. Gas is very expensive there, like 1.3 euros.

Also saw a new Dodge Nitro. It's smaller than I expected.

The S2000 is fairly rare, and must be super-rare in a domestic holdout like Philly. Honda has sold maybe 40,000 of them in the US since summer 1999, while Mazda sells that many Miatas in 18 months. I do see them around every so often (and I see mine every day) Someone else in my dinky county has a black 2.2, and I saw a black one at the Scion dealer the other day.

I also saw a new Senta this morning. Looks a bit like a compact-size Ford Fusion. Also saw a bronze C6 Corvette at the dealer. That color works for the Murano and 350Z, but the 'vette is too bulgy in the wrong places to carry it off.
