I think there's something like 700,000 Miatas on the road.

Most of them in Florida. ;)

No, I'm familiar with the new Sentra, but this was clearly a Versa sedan. It wasn't blocky like the new Sentra.

And yes, S2k's are scarce, the Miata sells somehting like 5:1. Up here in MA, you are more likely to see an S2k than a new Solstice though. Those are rare birds.

a really nice looking Ferrari F430 in red. It's the only the second one I've seen and it looks lots better than the Modena.

Also saw a grey Yukon XL and a black Escalade.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I saw like 5 Audi Q7 today. I kinda like these in a weird way...I think they can look sort of sinister.

Also 2 Bentley Flying Spurs, black and silver.

Subaru WRX STi.. the new facelifted model. (still needs a nose job). With a nice lip spoiler, instead of the monster wing.

    Mercedes CLK350 convertible.

    Nissan Sentra

You saw an 07 STI Limited, then. The fly-under-the-radar version of the STI.

Pretty smart, IMHO, they added nice heated leather seats and a moonroof, and delete the boy-racer spoilers and wild paint, for a sleeper sports sedan look. It appeals to a different buyer then the regular STI, too, which is much more showy.

Best part? The price is the same.

BTW, the current look for the Impreza is selling quite well, sales are way up despite the model being very dated (it came out in 2002).

Well.... the new corporate nose isn't pretty.. but, the old Impreza was already an ugly duckling, so I doubt it makes much difference...

With 300hp, they will only see you from behind, anyway.. ;)

Saw one of these at the auto show... electrifying!

I have photos, which I may be able to load up in the next 24 hrs. I took several while they were in the process of retracting and folding the top.

A DeLorean!!! Always cheers me up to see one of those. It seems to me one could make a nice little business buying crappy DMC shells and putting modern Japanese drive trains in them. Who wouldn't buy a Delorean with accord or camry insides (way more poerful than the original car btw)for $30-40k? I would be on that like white on rice
  • wylldsharkwylldshark Member Posts: 34
Me! I'd rather modify the PRV with the Stage I & Stage II upgrades from DMCH. Stage III is coming out rather soon adn will crank out close to 300hp! Of course, you could always find an old race version PRV or try a Lotus swap.

There is a guy who made a two-engine D, one in front and one in the back. The one in the front was from a Prelude.

John Z. was going to partner with Nissan and buy engines from them for his new car, but alas nothing came to fruition and now he's gone.

If there was no other choice but to choose from a Japanese manufacturer, I would go with Nissan. The words small, peppy, exciting and powerful comes to mind. In fact, there's a guy with an Infiniti engine in his D now.

Saw 2 Altimas yesterday. They're getting around fast, it seems. They look better in person than they do in photos.

Also saw a new maroon MDX next to me in traffic today.

I don't know about that Ted. Do you know all the sweet cars that can be had for 40 grand? You could have a new G35 coupe with 300 horsepower or a Delorean with an Accord engine? DeLoreans are curiosities but it would take a load of work to get more than 10 grand for one. Maybe if you tubbed one out and put a blown 350 Chevy in it, you could be 15.

Not new cars...but today I saw a car hauler with 2 Discoveries, a Freelander, a LR3, a Jag S-Type, and a Volvo XC. That load could put a mechanic's kids through college!
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Saw a Ford GT, and a Jag XK coupe. The GT is really impressive in person because it's so low and wide.

beige Bentley Continental GT, grey CLS55 AMG, and a maroon Cayenne Turbo S.

But best of all was the Ferrari F430 Spider that zoomed by me.
  • wylldsharkwylldshark Member Posts: 34
Actually a great DeLorean that needs no work done to it goes for $21K-27K. A perfect one will set you back upper $20's, lower $30's. Or you could get a frame-off restored D from DMCH for $45. Even has a warranty! :O ) Or $75 if you went to D1 in Cali. OF you don't mind doing a little recondtioning you can find a pretty good one in the upper teens and make it into a very nice driver.

Also, there is a DeLorean that has an Infiniti engine, not the G35 though. And there is one with a 350 too. Pretty nice setup the guy has!

of the new BMW X5s driving around.

Saw a new Expedition XL with the blacked out grill and all, not too bad either.

black Lexus LS460, my very first. Also a black Expedition, looks good with all the chrome, and a white Compass.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
My thought was sort of sparked by the company which puts honda engines in original mini bodies (apparently they are ridiculously fast). Why should the resto rod phenomenon get to be enjoyed by the muscle care guys only? I am all for stuffing modern drivetrains in all sorts of quirky but underpowered older cars like DMCs, VW things, Scouts (there are a few with LS1s!), volvo 240s etc...

Of course you can get a great modern car for $30-40k but that's not really the point. I am imagining a unique headturner like a DMC with the practicalilty to drive on a regular basis. Much more of a fun car than a real competetitor.
  • wylldsharkwylldshark Member Posts: 34
    I got ya.

Most people don't realize the PRV in the D is a good reliable engine - it's a Volvo engine for pete's sake! :O )

You can get upgrades from DMC in Texas that will produce 245 horses for the DeLorean, which to me is great! The Stage III will crank out over 300hp!

That's what I plan on doing to mine!

If you google around, you can actually find some of the conversions people have done, one of the best site's being Tamir Ardon's: http://www.entermyworld.com

He's got a lot if information on his site with pics of some of the diff. engine setups folks have did!
  • gsemikegsemike Member Posts: 2,412
I looked em up on Yahoo and am blown away by how much they go for. I see its appeal as a curiosity, but inside and out, it looks like outdated cheese. If it wasn't for back to the future, would anyone even remember what they were?
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
GMC Acadia, or whatever it's called. Looks like an oversized Pacifica crossed with a Mazda6.
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
    W/E :P

    Rocky
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
It would have looked decent if it had been the size of an Equinox or Santa Fe, but the shape and styling just doesn't work on something that large.

Also, Lutz should commit seppuku for allowing a front-wheel drive SUV to be sold as a GMC. The old Caballero was pushing it, but this is too much.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Nah, Pacifica has soft, rounded corners, and the Mazda6 is low to the ground and looks like a door wedge.

Outlook is more huge wagon shaped, and boxier than either by far.

While out at lunch I saw a G6 coupe (still uncommon here) and an Escalade ESV.

my FIRST BMW M6, in silver! It was stuck in traffic so I really got to see it. Also spotted a silver Lamborghini Gallrdo.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I still don't see it.

The Outlook is boxy and has that wide, body color C-pillar missing from both others.

The Pacifica looks round and bloated, while the Outlook is boxy and chiseled.

    Basically:

    * the Pacifica looks like a minivan
    * the Outlook seems more like a tall wagon
    * the Mazda6 looks more like a sports wagon

I actually think the Outlook resembles the Ford Freestyle more, i.e. a boxy but tall wagon:

Replying to myself here, and wow, looking at both pictures on the same screen, check out that resemblance.

Look at the roof rack. The other two don't even have that.

    Look at the C-pillar.

    Check out the window Tint.

    Check out the fender flares.

GM did it better, but there is an undeniable resemblance there.

Cadillac XLR in RED! Driven by a middle aged lady.

Volvo C30 at the Volvo lot, not a bad looking car. It's going to be competing with the Minis and MB C230s.

New Volvo S80. Looks like a S60, almost hard to tell apart.

Lotus Elise in yellow. Turns a lot of heads.

Porsche Cayman, looks better in real life than in pictures.

And a bunch of the new BMW X5s. About 2 or 3 a day. I always like the X5 even the old version. It's probably the best looking SUV out there right now imo.

Light blue Lambo Murcielago. And a white Gallardo.

Also the new F Superduty trucks. I think the only redesign is the front end on them. they're not all new.

    2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I saw a few new X5s today too, and both of the Acura SUVs.

Also about 5 Ford Edge, a couple new Lexus LS, and an Aston DB9
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
white Maserati Quattorporte stuck in traffic, and also a blue Cayenne Turbo S and a grey DB9.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
Buick Rainier SUV, I think they just killed this one. Definitely the first I've noticed and if it is at the end of it's lifecycle that is not good. I've seen more Chevy 9-7Xs than these.

Nothing really fun has been out recently with the snow in NYC
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
New Aston Martin V8 Vantage. It was behind me and the inside edge of the headlights have LEDs, so I thought it has to be a different kind of car. When I slowed down to let him pass me I saw the Aston grille. It looks really trippy.

Saw a VW Phaeton, I think my second one. Not too many of them around, and a Bentley Arnage. Both at high end hotels.

I saw an R55 today... "what's that?" you ask...
Why it's an AMG Tuned R class Merc... the most useless form of supercharged v8 power known to man... On top of that (literally) it had a giant Thule ski box starpped to the roof for extra aerodynamic effect.

    What a tool
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
New X5, first one I've seen on the roads.

Two Fits. They went in hiding during the snow, but now that it's melting I started seeing them again.

Maserati coupe behind me in traffic, too.

    A few Auras, too.

Very disappointing because the top fit was dreadful. All kinds of wrinkles and simply horrible fit.

They're what, a year old now? Gotta re-engineer those tops.

I have a 14 year old Miata with a cheap aftermarket top that I put on by myself and it fits 10 times better. GM should be embarassed.

I wasn't even sure what an Outlook was, until I saw this today.... I guess it is a twin to the GMC Acadia?

Pretty attractive, if you go for the SUV thing.. Much better looking than the Trailblazer/Envoy models..

That's exactly right. Only minor differences between the two, mostly on the interior. The Buick Enclave is far more differentiated.

I saw an Acadia on Wednesday when my wife got a test drive offer for a Buick (we didn't even actually drive the car), and the no-haggle price was $41k (already discounted). Yikes. It was loaded up, but still. And that's with the $1k rebate.

I test drove an Outlook a few weeks ago that was a base, FWD model and the list price was under $30k, so it seems like they cover a very broad range of prices.

Came into our dealership for a lease for someone. I sat in it while in the detail shop. Black on black.

I love the sound of the motor. Overall interior was very well done but a couple things disappointed me:

The key is exactly the same as used in VW (the rectangle switchblade key) except it has a Bentley logo on it.
    image

The tranny shifter pattern plate looks similar to ones in a VW or Audi.

It's kind of disappointing whenb you're spending that much dough on a car.

Sorta like Aston Martins of early 980s were using Ford Taurus steering wheels for a while (because of the airbags).

Or Lotus Esprits were using Saturn SC1 steering wheels as well for the same reason.
