Not wanting to see you break any confidentiality rules, but since I plan on coming home to visit my dad and to see the auto show, will I see one (terradyne/avalanche) at the Detroit Auto Show. Boy there are some things I miss about the Motor City. Not many, but some.
I thought you were sold on the Tundra? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. The Suburban is a nice vehicle but really doesn't address the same market as a pickup. The 'burb is more a people hauler whereas the other is for cargo.
Is that if parking is tight on the right, you have the option of egressing from the left. Have you tried that in your retro 3 door?
On whether *any* 4th doors had been made yet, I would guess no production models, only pre-production, test models. As for the door maker, I would guess they are waiting for the final design changes...latches etc. -scott
I know it is not Silverado, but at least it starts with an S. Does anyone know if since GM is now a 23%? owner of Subaru, whether GMO and GMS pricing will be available on them. My wife wants one.
Yes the terradyne will be at the autoshow and so will the Chevy SSR (a new el camino) with a 6 L V-8 looks like a futuristic hot rod pretty cool actually better than that nomad last yr. Tim i understand about the confidentiality its cool just thought id ask if u have seen it in person. Also they will be at the chicago autoshow (a little closer to me only 35 min) its a good one except last yr the only car they didnt have was the new GTO. Since we are talking about the autoshow and its coming up soon what was ur favorite last yr??? Seriously mine was the ConceptCure GMC sierra pewter with pewter flares all chrome Z71 ext cab it was sweet. They have a new one now in the truck trend magazine its silver and grey pretty nice. A close second was the indigo blue Chevy i sat in first truck i actually sat in. Hey tim do u pay for tix to the detroit autoshow??? Sounds like u dont with all ur connections but do u know how much they run? This salesman guy i am ordering my truck for said he will send me a few but its kinda far for me and i told him i dont need em i am going to the chicago autoshow and i can get in free (connections)
SUBARU = Chevy Silverado how?????????? Hmmmmm i am not the smartest guy on the planet but they have nothing to do with each other. Thats like night and day. Try a car post maybe u will have much better luck.
Dodge has the power wagon ford has ???? gm trradyne and avalanche Dodges power wagon is based on the ram not the dakota they have another one coming out??? What does ford have coming out???
We really did like driving the Toyota, but where we live, the dealerships are NOT dealerships. They are "sellerships." The price is the price - no discounts - blah, blah.
We did find the GM dealership ready to deal - but not much on the 4 door to be delivered when????
With the Tundra, I felt I would be compromising because it is sooooo small. Also, got cold feet when I talked to a guy, with a T100 that he wants to sell - Guess what, nobody wants his T100. Maybe after the first dash, momentum will run out on the Tundra, too.
With the Silverado, I felt I would be missing the nice driving feel of the Toyota, but was eventually willing to make the compromise.
By chance I saw a Burb at one of the lots I was surfing for Silverados. They sales guy says, "If you don't pull a 5th wheel, you can do almost anything with these beasts."
I was totally sold, especially since my cargo is very expensive and would benefit from staying out of the elements. (The two main flight cases are 84x14x36 inches, each!)
Found a similar Burb on a private sale with low miles in mint shape, 350, 4 speed auto, 1500 GMC. No tax - no depreciation.
It would have been great to get a new vehicle, but the Burbs, OUCH, they are too expensive. Got nothing against those who want and buy the X-cabs - I was just a little slow understanding they were not the best fit for me.
I'd apologize for making this so long, but if you've already read this far, it's your own darn fault now, isn't it?
Explorer SportTrac, begins production soon. Based off explorer/ranger.
Lincoln Blackwood. Based off F150. Will start production sometime next year as well.
I know GM has a sport ute/truck that will start production in the fall, but don't know if its a midsize or full size truck.
I think that its kinda funny how everyone is coming out with all these "new" small trucks with 4 doors (1st being Dodge Dakota) when GM has sold real 4 door S10 in South America for a LONG time!! Guess they didn't think there was a market here. Once again, they were wrong, huh?
I will definitly be attending the auto show in Detroit this year as well. Hopefully next year I will get to attend the week before the actual show during press week since I will be a GM employee. You get free reign then, even in the concept cars that are off limits to the general public.
Saw a white truck with black flares yesterday. Fender Flares were listed on the window sticker, so don't think the dealer did it!! Last comment on the subject I swear.
My dealer called last week (I placed the order in Oct.) and said the TPW for my 1500 4x4 x/c 4 door 4.8 5-speed was 12/20/99. I took this with a grain of salt but started hoping I might see the truck in January. Called the 1 800 chevy factory number today and gave them my order number and they said my truck was being built this week. Any chance any of this is true? Has anyone else been receiving signs that the long wait may be over? My dealer had not given me any false hope over the last couple months so I think he at least thinks what he's telling me is correct.
I Seen a white one too i believe u. These stupid fender flares are pissing me off i dont care anymore as long as i get my truck blue and flares balck ill be totally happy. Storch i envy u very much u r very lucky to see and go in those cars we cant. I dont like the lincoln blackwood at all this is my philosphy Ryan's Philosophy 101 Companys that make cars (lincoln, toyota, etc..) should stay out of trying to make trucks and Suv's sorry but this is what i believe. The only concept i wanted to sit in was the conceptCure truck man that truck was gorgeous even though it was a gmc. 4 doors on S-10s i dont see the point to that myself i seen the new dakotas recently they are nice but i dont know i think they should leave the crewcabs to the full size heavy duty trucks. Man i am very opinionate sorry guys
Has anyone bought a hitch cover for their truck yet? I am gonna order a shirt out of the chevy mall magazine and they have a real nice Z71 hitch cover and i figure why not get it now. Just wondering if anyone had one like this and if they liked it. Go to Http://www.chevymall.com they have a silverado one on sale for $34.99. I personally like the Z71 it goes nice with the sticker on the side
I have the same engine noise that you have/had. I am ready to have GM/Chevy trade or buy-back my truck. I have started this process.
I was wondering if you would give me more detail about your situation and what steps you did to get GM/Chevy to agree to buy-back. How many times did you take it in for this problem? Did you use BBB arbitration? etc...
They have more in the magazine order it its free. I think u can subscribe online. They have about 8 different ones. For some reason on the website all they have is the silverado and suburban. They have the Z71 trust me i almost ordered it but i didnt. Its circular like the silverado silver with the Z71 in the middle like the sticker. Order the catalog they have some nice stuff just ordered a shirt today. The Z71 hitch is $44.99 the lock thing is $19.99. That website has about a third of everything they have in the catalog.
The salesman i am buying my truck from offered me tix today but i asked my dad about going and he said 600 mls u guess his answer. I hear you about the clothing issue forget the suit gotta wear jeans. I guess ill just have to go to the chicago autoshow now but at least its pretty cool im sure not as big as detroit though.
Never really much thought of a year 2000 vehicle as "Retro"...
As for the parking thing, It's been a casual, but admittedly un-scientific observation of mine that people tend to center their car/truck/4 wheeled tank in the center of the parking spot (to the best of their INability, LOL). I just try to park away from the assembled mass of cars. As for the 3rd door, hardly ever open it. Holding out for a 4 door truck thats going to cost more money is a lot like someone that will pay Two or Three hundred bucks more for an otherwise identical computer that's 50Mhz faster than another. It's all in how you see the world, I guess.
2 doors to 3, big jump forward. Fireworks and a parade.
3 doors to 4, wow. What was that? a bottle rocket and a kid pulling a wagon???
When these trucks come up for resale in 3 - 5 years, I wonder what amount of the additional cost of that ultra-modern 4th door will be recovered vs the resale value of a retro 3 door. My guess is a few pennies on the dollar, if that. Hasn't seemed to hurt any of the other makes of trucks...
In a couple of years a used 2000 4 dr may only bring 1 or two hundred more on the used truck market over the 3 dr. But myself I would say 20000 for a 3 dr vs 20200 for a 4 dr I'd take the 4dr. If most feel that way it might be hard to unload a three dr. Its mainly convienience of not havning to walk around the other side to put in groceries, etc that I don't want in the bed. Also as I've said before, my garage to house door is on the drivers side. Almost impossible to get anything out of the current 3rd door in my garage (like a parking lot) as my wifes Camero is on that side. If I had my druthers I could be happy with a 3rd door on the drivers side. As I've lived with my current Z71 for nearly three years I am familier with the drawback of a third dr on the passenger side. Its the only reason I will not get a third dr Silverado. And I don't mind parking away from the crownd in a parking lot, I need the exercise. But I am anxiously waiting for 2003 to see the HD model with the duramax or new big V8. Maybe GM will have the bugs out by then and can deliver. .... Rich
I hear that alot on this site, but why is it Ford and Dodge don't have this problem? Are we sure the Silverado will have this problem or is that just to justify our 3 drs? Well I've had it with my 3dr and hope to unload it as soon as possible. ... Rich
I don't follow the off brand too much....but I remember seeing a test on it...and showing how much slop the cab had when cornering..and such.
But who cares...
I won't be buying one...a Dodge that is..
As for hard to sell a 3 door. On my particular truck it looks like a 4 door 2500 in 2000 will be almost nill....if not nill.
I see no problem with a 2500.....a 1500 maybe....but probably not. With 2500's being about 5% of the sales....it's hard to find ANY used 2500 around here.
My 97 F150 (1st year of the 3rd door) had more wind noise and loose fit than my current 99 Silverado does.
Sure, a 4th door would be nice, but its definitely not a reason to hold out for. Those who think it will be worth more on resale have been hiding behind their calculators and spreadsheets too long.
I totally understand why you want 4 door, and agree you will get back the extra money you paid up front to get the 4 door option. But 3 doors hard to "unload?"
The used car/truck market is less trendy than that. If a vehicle is in nice shape no trouble unloading whether 3 doors or 4. Lots of buyers, not just in Bob and Elizabeth Dole's neighborhood need/want trucks. Getting one in good shape, in any configuration, is the bigger challenge.

This terradyne im talking about is nothin like the avalanche. Its like the opposite its like the power wagon not a SUV. U have to see pics of it i guess. Thats one damn ugly but neat looking truck
cut a fourth door in! you might get undo "wind noise" or "cab flex" that will cause your truck to fall apart just sitting in the parking lot (where you just can't use any damn doors at all!). personally, when i get my FOUR door silverado, i'm going to weld all four doors shut, permanently remove the windows and add a horn that blows dixie. next, i'll paint it fire engine red, with a confederate flag on the roof...and... just wanted everyone to know that i'm having fun waiting for my four door. i love reading the four door vs three door controversy - it fuels my imagination as you can see and oh by the way... can we take the avalanche/power-wagon/terradyne/subaru/toyota/anything-but-silveado-bull-sh*t to a post that isn't titled CHEVY SILVERADO??? sorry, had to kick in $0.04 there. getting kinda crazy lately...must be four door fever... kyle
As I recall, it was the guy who said that (essentially) you couldn't unload a 3-door at any price who started this whole really stupid thread.
No one with a 3-door ever said they wouldn't mind a 4th door. But in general, I don't really care. I HAVE my truck and will have owned it for a full year before you get your 4-door. And since I have a shell on mine, I don't really give a crap about the 3rd door either. I rarely use it. Personally I'd rather have longer doors on front and only two doors, but who am I to design a truck?
UR PUSHING IT the talks of the new concepts are keeping this post alive all this 4 door stuff bores me WHO CARES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh yea to let u know it will be 3 months from this saturday that i am ordering my truck
Weld the doors?....take out the windows??...a horn that blows dixie! That was my idea!!.....Now what am i gonna do?
Rwag,
Amen....I too would rather have two huge doors...but then it makes the parking lot thingee a hassle. I have no kids and most of the time it's just me...or me and a passenger. back has been mainly used for stuff....that could go in back...or if not..i wouldn't care if a seat went up to access or it had a 3 or 4 door. I understand the idea of waiting....but hell...Like it was said...I'm enjoying it now...let the gotta have a 4 door right away's get it and let GM refine it for when you and me get another one.
Thanks gotta have its!!!
Ryan,
we know when you plan to buy....THAT is getting old...Id rather talk about flares or doors than that. Let us know when it's ordered! I feel that never buying a used car and only feeling good enough for new is kinda emily post like though...
I wouldn't trade all the late nights in the garage working on the car back in high school for any new car as a kid. Not too many kids now days have hot rods in high school.....some do...but they are lame [non-permissible content removed] cars. Did ours look that way to people my age now..back then?
... bother me nearly as much as the fact that my '99 auto-dimming rear view mirror only has a compass feature, and the '00's have a compass AND a temperature feature!
Your order is still young. I ordered mine the week after July 4th. They tell me that the order has gone to production 8 times but the computer keeps spitting it out due to non availability of some assembly (but can't tell me what that assembly is).
I dont know about hot rods anymore never really see to many. Kidds nowadays buy a blazer or S-10 and make it a lower rider that kinda disgusts me. Waste of a nice vehicle. I would never buy a USED car you dont know whats been done to it or what could be wrong. I think id rather walk or ride my bike. Thats why i wont buy a truck off the lot you dont know what people have messed with inside and most are filthy dirty inside. Like the one i was in yesterday the carpet floor was all muddy. And for working in the garage in HS on your car i never did that cause i never had a car i played basketball 7 days a wk i was at the gym. I had no job no money but i was happy playing basketball id take that any day. I dont know why u wouldnt buy a brnad new over used think about it its your first vehicle will never forget it. I dont know maybe its just me
I know this dillema isn't as interesting as the 3 vs 4 door debate, but I could still use some input. I now own a 1/2 ton dodge and it has been more than adequate for all needs. BUT, I do plan on purchasing a trailer in the near future. About 20', dual axles. Like most trailers it will sit in storage for 98% of the year. I will probably use for 3 or 4 lengthy trips a year. The rest of my driving is around town, to the store, to the lake, etc. My heaviest payload is a 4-wheeler. Do I need the 2500? What kind of mileage can I expect with the 5.3 vs. 6.0 . What about resale? Does the 2500 come with a heavy duty tranny and brakes? I don't like the idea of getting a truck that limits what I can tow in the future. But, the 1500 can tow up to 10,000 and the better mileage is nice.
contrary to it's title, this post will now host only discussions and threads that ryan approves of. the "four door stuff" has bored him and apparently the title CHEVY SILVERADO can not deter him. please consult with ryan before making a post to ensure that your post will not bore, offend, or disturb him in any way. additionally, all posts must end with the amount of time until ryan orders his truck. that is all, please, carry on.
kyle
***3 months, one day, nine hours, and thirty-six minutes until ryan orders his truck (note: this IS based on the fact that ryan will order his truck at noon est, i'm sure he will correct us if that is not so), dammit, now we're down to thirty-five minutes...***
I am laughing my butt off. You guys have to much time on your hands seriously u think my talk gets old but so does the 4 door issue. I agree me talking about when i am ordering mine is old but so is the 4 door lets put both to rest. Only 4 door talk should be that someone ACTUALLY has one in there driveway. Besides it is getting boring in here no one has anything good to say anymore. Storch right now is the coolest guy he keeps sending those cool pics of new cars. Yes storch thats the picture i have in my magazine. TIM: i know u bought new but u said when u were younger thats what i was talking about. I say we leave this guy Ryan alone now hes taken enough abuse. Please no one quit talking this post is by far the best. I dont care what we talk about its a free country you know so keep it coming ill keep my mouth shut about me until i actually get mine and have it in the driveway ok everyone????? Hows that? Just put yourself in my shoes first vehicle come on.

I have that hitch cover on order. It's like the silverado one, but I like it better.
Like Ryan said, it has the Z71 instead of silverado. It's Z is red & the 71 is silver. The part number for this hitch cover is #34014.
I saw it on a Silverado in the showroom at a dealership, & it really looked good!

Did ours look that way to people my age now..back then?
hmmmmmmmm

I dont know maybe its just me
Ryan
Never said I'd take used over new....but it seems selfish to say used is not good enough?
Most cars I want are not made any more....
70 Chevelle...(why did I ever sell??)
69 H/O
Wife wants a new Cobra....problem is...new ones look like crap!

***3 months, one day, nine hours, and thirty-six minutes until ryan orders his truck (note: this IS based on the fact that ryan will order his truck at noon est, i'm sure he will correct us if that is not so), dammit, now we're down to thirty-five minutes...***
Ryan
She says it is like sitting in a hole though...
I kinda agree....but she is a Ford girl.....so what do I care what she buys?
I like the current Stang convert she has....but a WS-6 rolling at about 45 in 3rd gear sounds soooooooo nice...
We shall see what happens
The 99/00 Stangs are horrible...
Have to look at a Cobra again....
