Planejane I'm sure has even way more miles than that...she hasn't piped about anything bad..so I'd imagine it's Ok too
Wtking,
About less than a year ago GM changed to their VOM ordering system. Every dealer or buyer I ever talked to said it sucked! GM makes the only truck for me..but I hate the company itself. They do so many stupid things.
There has been a shortage of parts that also contribute to this...things like the axle manufacturer bailing out..and the likes.
GM probably also sees like you said....5% of the sales are 2500....so perhaps it becomes less of an important issue?
The new system forces dealers to "wait" until they are "allowed" to order X type of vehicle...sometimes they have "lottery" or "bonus" type orders that a dealer may be able to sneak one in if he is quick enough.
GM's whole theory is "we sell all we build"...problem is they are not going to build enough! They also say.."we are going to sell X amount of Tahoes"....or whatever...instead of saying let's open another plant to keep up...."we sold all we made!"
There is also a desire to squeeze the amount of extra parts around to a nil....so nil they only have exactly what they need for that week. Old days...an order could be changed at the last minute...they had extra parts!
Now if a part is in short supply....even just days...it holds up your order...possibly cancels it...just because they didn't have a couple extra parts around.
I ordered my 2000 in march...it was cancelled by GM in May....due to too many orders..they say..I could re-order one in June...and got it in August..as a 2000 instead of a 99.
99 was a grim year for 2500's....and 2000 looks not much better....4 doors may not even happen for 2000.
I feel for all who are waiting...but don't give up...it's worth the wait.
I know mine will sell like hotcakes in a couple years....that's for sure..
Good Luck
- Tim
This is true...kinda..
Chrome is a harder surface than stainless. A Quick flash coating or dip of chrome will scratch less easy than 304 Stainless....but it's not that Stainless is bad.
Stainless doesn't get a coating..it is just polished to look like chrome. the higher luster will yes...scratch easier...but it's due to the higher luster than chrome.
Because it's not coated or dipped...it will not flake off or if it does get a severe scratch...you won't see black or bare metal...because it's solid all the way through.
I have had the SS boards for about a month now...and yes they have small haze like scratches...but they polished out easy.
I like the SS finish better......just not the price..
Can't have both though...
Happy Holidays

I live in the Vancouver, BC area & most of the dealers here have about 5-6 new 3/4 ton pickups on the lot! Most of the trucks are extented cab 4WD units. The average dealer has about 30 1/2 tons & about 5 3/4 tons.
Good Luck,
AFS
In your post regarding stainless and chrome nerf bars, you stated: "stainless doesn't get a coating..it is just polished to look like chrome".
Westin makes steel nerf bars with two coatings: polished chrome and powdercoat. These come with a 5 year warranty, including the finish.
They also make an all-new Platinum CPS Chrome Plated Stainless Steel nerf bar. It comes with a lifetime warranty, including the finish. I have these nerf bars on my 2000 Silverado and really like them. The main brackets fasten to the cab mounts, and the support brackets use existing holes in the frame. No drilling is required.
Anyone interested in these nerf bars can check them out at www.westinautomotive.com .

I've lost track, did you or did you not order a truck? If so what did you finally decide on?
Dealers around here USED to have a few 2500's back in about Feb/march 99....they have been gone for a while.
The things are built in the Pontiac plant....we are so close to it...yet we have to wait so long. I drove by it a few times while waiting...and wondered if mine was on the line that day?...
Good luck
Gary,
OK....someone makes a chrome plated SS bar....My statement that solid SS does not get a coating is still true.
I would imagine that SS under the chrome would help for rust protection...

Lighten up!
As you get older you will learn to brush more stuff off....right now...you are too easy of a target..
LOL
how many more days until you order?????
- Tim
Tim i dont know im not counting that down like we all used to count down how many more days of school were left. Im going by months. To many i must say.

I'm interested in hearing from real world users of this same vehicle what they've actually experienced, particularly when towing on the highway and driving solo (not towing).

I'm new to this message board, so forgive my ignorance at not having found the gas mileage topic board until after I had posted my message.
However, everyone knows that gas mileage VARIES, so that's stating the obvious. The fact that it does vary is what prompted my question to begin with - I was just looking for some ranges to see what people were really experiencing as opposed to what the EPA estimates are.
I also note that many of the responses on this particular vehicle/engine are from 4x4 owners and/or folks who have the 4.10 gears, neither of which are features I am interested in, so those results don't really tell me what I was looking for.
I get about 13MPG overall....roughly 50/50 for city highway...55 in the city..75-80 on the highway.
12/16 may indeed be a realistic number for the lower GVW less weight truck you have mentioned..
I've heard people say 15 before...but not with the 8600 GVW 4x4 version.
Good Luck

(Don't mind Ryan...he has been here a month and expects people to know everything...like him!...)

The RX300 is a Camry with a taller body. Lousy turn radius to make up for the top-heavy (roll-over prone) design. Basically useless for anything but a small wagon, which is what it really is. Even my Lexus-loving in-laws hate the RX300 they bought. It will probably be the first car (yes, car, not SUV) they keep less than a year.
The Landcruiser is just overpriced crap. But that's my opinion of almost anything Toyota makes.
Why would anyone even put the RX300 and Landcruiser in the same topic as a Silverado? At least when the Camaro was mentioned, you could say something good about it. There is nothing good about a Toyota.
Richard
P.S. If you have an LT, how are the seats holding up? Heaters, switch gear all reliable? Thanks in advance.
- Todd

Ryan
Black..black flares..Ex.cab SB...duhh...Grey Interior
z85 Firm ride...trailer package...oil cooler..tranny cooler..on/off road tires...skid plates....and pretty much everything else comes with an LT....didn't get camper mirrors..(sorry Vince)..cell phone wiring..or trailer wiring...it did come with a wiring harness of some kind though..
Put Skins/rails/boards/bug guard, and Duraliner in also.

Regrets for no locker??....nope!
No it can't hurt...but I doubt even 1 percent of the people here will ever have a need for it....If i could have been sure at the time of ordering that I wasn't ging to have to change the fluid in the rear every 5 months..(10,000 miles)...maybe I would have got it?
next time perhaps?
good Luck

I've got a red and black boat, so I'm trying to come up with a color scheme that will match. Something that will look better than a blue ford.
(had blue boat, got new/used red boat). I'm leaning towards black, I haven't had a black vehicle in a few years.
Tim
Truck looks real nice. I was just looking for some feedback on the locker and suspension, as you said you drove a 1500 Z71 and a 2500, perfering the 2500 for the ride, was curious what suspension gave the best ride, guess it's Z85. I'm going to order an LT so I was curios about the seats. I'm going with the Graphite interior though.
Take care guys!
-Todd
These rigs were fresh off the delivery truck, so I don't think they were dealer painted.
Any ideas!!!
Tim beer? Come on its a weekday. ANd yes i believe u (shaking head NO)that you dont drink.
Ryan
As for Graphite in an LT...the Graphite leather was a little too "black hole" like for me when getting in the seat. The cloth graphite has other colors in the fiber that brighten it up a bit....make sure you see an all leather graghite in person first...if you already haven't.
I would have chose it over Grey...but too dark for me. tan was my first choice....but it looks like orange in person....and tan with Black??...think not.
Med grey seemed the way to go for me....although it gets a little dirty a little too fast some times.....but not bad overall.

....or does that only apply to the noon saying?

How come the toyota guys come in here talking their smack? Do u see me in a toyota post? NO! Why would i have reason to be in one? I think maybe they are researching the silverado because they are to ashamed to admit they are trading in their tundra for a chevy.
The graphite leather is nice in most trucks but the medium grey is the best color for a black truck.
Beast its egg nog and cookies today
pyrodex, bob259 has just lost his way, he's most likely in his 40's having a mid life crisis and is all confused. Once he comes to his senses he will see the light, and coming out of the light will be the mighty Silverado to pick him up and bring him safely home.
pyrodex, stop clicking your heals together with your eyes closed and saying "I wish my Tundra was as good as the Silverado", your wish is NOT going to come true. I don't care if you are wearing ruby red shoes, I didn't work for Dorthy either. Well, on the bright side at least Toto would fit in the Tundra.
