You need to move the system regulary. If you are in NY (New England) and Im in NH and the salt and other stuff tend to get everywhere. Suggest regular underbody squirts with the hose or carwash.
I now have 26,000 miles on my HSE7 and its been indestructible. Yes there are things I'd improve, but it's hard to find an equal! IMHO
The LR3 goes through a snow drift like butter, my Chevy Silverado HD in 4X4 gets stuck. Go figure!
To all of those wondering if the risk with the LR3 is worth it, here's the answer: It's not. Go spend your money on something else.
Man I am glad most of my customers are more patient then that. One of the air suspension issues we had, on a sport not an LR3 but pretty much the same, took three or four visits over the course of about a month I guess and each visit lasted for a couple of days. Now that guy was fairly upset but we calmed him down as best we could and he hasn't had any problems with the car since.
He loves the car now and I have sold cars to a couple of his friends from his referals.
So, yesterday, I swung by the dealership and I compared their respective cupholder inserts. Interestingly, the late build insert has thicker walls.
My dealer said that the parts weren't readily available, and that the parts list doesn't indicate different sizes or a change in part. But he swapped one of mine for one on a demo car; and coffee doesn't spill anymore.
They also added a rubber mat in front of the Navigation screen. Previously, I bought the rubber mat for the non-Navigation vehicle and cut the back off to fit. Now Land Rover does it for you. :shades: The part number for the small "FACIA BIN CENTER RUBBER NAV MAT" is FAH500032XXX
I have an LR3 with 15k on it and am in the process of getting my money back for it. I have had the truck in four times for Suspension faults that cannot be fixed. The last time I had it in for the traveling engineer to look at and they supposedly found the problem, but the next day, I had another one.
I spoke with the sales manager and he privately told me that this is a real problem for this car and that they have a challenge trying to diagnose why this is happening, because they cannot pinpoint "one fix" for it. It seems that the problem is different for each car that they see.
I wrote to Land Rover North America prior to their last attempt to fix it, telling them that I was going to Lemon Law the vehicle. This got a very immediate response from my dealer, who asked me kndly not to write to them again and they would do anything to get me out of the vehicle.
Good luck.
Do any of you know what this offer is and how I can get my hands on it?
Keep us updated as to what your outcome is. I know it must have been very frustrating for you.
Hopefully, the suspension faults did not follow into the 2006 model. I love this SUV everyday that I drive it! Five weeks of ownership and smooth sailing.
Roving along the highways and byways! Mark
New type of compressor is on the way for the suspension in my LR3 and it will be replaced this coming week. I'll keep you up to date on the solution. BTW, I'm only 5' tall, so I use the access height all the time--and the suspension is a big plus in the regular trips I take from Long Island to the mountains in Vermont. I really like all aspects of driving my LR3 and I climb up mountains with it in low gear and use the descent control on the way down. Think it rocks! It holds a wet road like white on rice. But, coming from 4 Volvos in my past, I'm really disappointed in the service I'm getting at LR, the bad communication and the general cluelessness of the Land Rover folks. Maybe my basis of comparison was too good to be true, but you pay this kind of money, they can give you a little straight information.
Still, I'd be hard pressed to say that I wouldn't make the purchase all over again. I was looking at the Volvo SUV and I wasn't as happy with it.
So far so good. In a bad situation, my trusty LR3 handled better than well. Road side assistance came and executed the change...peachy. Nice young man and the LR phone group did fine.
But, was I SHOCKED to discover that I didn't have a full sized spare. What good would the 50 mph donut do me? (Indeed what good does a donut do anyone except a local driver?) I couldn't continue my trip as I had another 200 miles of highway driving to do. So I looked around for a tire dealer. What a pain trying to find someone with a Goodyear or a comp for an 18" rim! (Imagine if I had the 19"?) I finally got a used tire and it got me to Killington. I discovered it had a slow leak in the sidewall so I was back to square one. I've spent the last day on the phone getting the right tire shipped overnight to a Rutland dealer because it's not a regular Goodyear stock item for most. (There are worse things than being stuck an extra day at one's vacation home. Don't be concerned on my account. )
Lesson: I'm not blaming this one on Land Rover, I didn't read the fine print in my spec. Ford is doing anything possible to cut a few dollars and a few pounds (for gas mileage) and this was a design decision. But it's a foolish one as NO SUV should be without a full-sized spare.
When I return home and get my compressor installed (see my response to Darien regarding my suspension fault)I'm going to suck up the grand and order a 5th tire and rim. (This in addition to what I'm spending now to get the replacement tire up to Killington.) My message to you all is DO THE SAME. If you do not have a full sized spare, make the investment. If you need more than your donut, the 18" or 19" rim will make tire replacement a difficult thing, so be prepared to fend for yourself by solving the problem first.
Forewarned is forearmed.
Has anyone had the "sill tread plates" installed?
Since the sills are painted, I put a piece of wide packing tape across it to avoid scratches.
Enjoying every minute of my LR3!
Mark
The sill treads plates are just pieces of aluminum with double-stick tape. Nothing too exciting... My LR3 has them now, since I got them for "free" from someone that didn't want them. :shades:
By the way, it's now day six in the shop and the dealer still has not identified the problem. I've never seen anything like this, ever.
If the sill plates are that easy to install I just might get them. I have seen them advertised for $167 for all four sills at a car site.
Mark
The manager told me to pick up the LR3 and drive it until they locate a compressor. This struck me as odd but he stated it was safe to drive. It may be safe but it drives like it has no suspension. Rocks over all holes and pavement irregularities.
Has anyone else driven their vehicle while amber suspension fault was indicated? If so for how many miles/days.
Anyone else having a problem locating a compressor? Can't dealer just swipe one from a vehicle on the lot?
Depressed in California....
You have know idea how screwed up Land Rovers part system is right now since they just switched their ordering system over to a new one. We had a key ordered for a Range Rover that only shipped with one from the factory and it took over 6 weeks to get here.
Do you know of any new or upcoming incentives that will be available on the LR3? I have heard that the "direct mail" offer was actually from November that got extended. But there has got to be some new promo getting ready to come out...right??

(and, of course, most car sites)
The top part of the rear door won't close unless i shut it hard. I am not able to open it up properly either. I have to press the button (that is under the black license plate light cover) twice, once to release the lock and 2nd or third time to be able to open the hatch.
All doors (specially the driver's side one) wont shut properly either unless i shut it with some force, dealer said that the truck is air tight thats why. So i did an experiment, left the passengen side door open and then tried shutting the driver's side door and that certainly helped. Any body else experienced this?
And lastly, sometimes the vehicle will sound a chime but there will be no message or light anywhere and its not the park distance control or the temperature drop sound as i am familiar with those. The chime sounds more like the one when you change a setting (suspension height or transfer case speed) or when a warning comes on, etc.
Last couple of days, i have been noticing a squeeking sound when i apply brakes, is that something normal? I have been very very easy on the brakes ever since i picked up the truck knowing that the brake pads need to seat/bed in.
This is the normal behavior. It's actually "press and hold" to open. If you just tap and release, the safety still holds the hatch in place.
"All doors (specially the driver's side one) wont shut properly either unless I shut it with some force, dealer said that the truck is air tight thats why."
Sorry, the truck is not "air tight" -- that's just a silly comment. But yes, air pressure will make doors harder to close. Again, that's normal... you'll get used to the force required to close the last door. If you still think it's "too hard", compare to another LR3 on the lot for reference and then complain if it's a lot worse.
I, too, have the occasional "ding" with no message on the dash. It happened a few times early on but hasn't happened in the last 3 weeks. I would say it has happened about 4 times.
I know the "Freeze" warning will ding, the turning signal will ding after a few minutes, other than that, I don't think I'm doing anything to deserve a warning. I have had a "suspension fault" message on the read-out a couple of times. When I turn the ignition off and back on, the message is gone. The suspension adjustment works perfectly as I use it almost every time I drive it. I like to make sure it works and I'm guilty of playing with it too! (the suspension) :P
I haven't noticed that the doors are hard to close but I would expect our doors to be sealed pretty tight as we can go in water deep enough to cover the top of the wheel. That would put the doors about 1/3rd under water.
My Mercedes ML500 needed a good push to close the doors so I might be used to that so the LR3 is fine.
My steering seems to be straight with no effort at any speed to keep in on the road. I really enjoy the commanding few of this vehicle. I like the straight flat hood because the Mercedes was so slanted you couldn't see it.
Things that I wished the LR3 had:
-motorized pull-in mirrors
-auto up and down for all window buttons at the drivers window control.
-the little tray in the console is wimpy, they should have two separate compartments; one for upper and one for lower.
I'm going to pick up a new cell phone today. I have Verizon wireless so I've picked out the Motorola Razr V3c phone that is very thin. It has bluetooth and a camera. I was never a big fan of having a camera but after thinking about it, it is a good idea. If you see someone acting crazy, you can take a picture of their tag. If you are in a minor fender bender, you can take pictures of the vehicles or even the other driver. The picture phone could come in handy.
Paxton... when I get the ding for the "freeze" warning, there is no message but a snow flake will appear next to the temperature readout.
Roving right along... Mark
Got my Verizon Treo700W Phone/PDA working in the car which has great voice command capability hooked in through the AUX input so everything comes in over the Logic7. Also because its through the AUX I can mute the music as needed.
Voice commands can update you on appointments, contacts, whos calling and many other things.
Get my emails and warning beeps via sound system I have messages.
Check it out "its the business"! My LR dealer couldnt believe it when I showed them what it could do and will suggest that for anyone looking at the LR bluetooth kit which IMHO is a joke!
Mark
Alternatively, they use a separate amplified speaker mounted in a hidden location and use the mute lead on the back of the head unit to "mute" the car stereo.
Virtually all 3rd party BT kits offer more functionality, especially if designed for a specific phone/brand.
RTFB "Read the Fxx Manual" everyone knows what the "AUX and Logic7 is"
Nope, no third party kit just plug in the AUX lead to the phone. Get proficient with the voice commands and off you go.
It's spectacularly simple, works great & (sorry my friend) very embarrassing to show off when you are at the LRNA dealership! Hehe!
I have it on my new M5 and the BMW guys still cant figure it out!
I got the Motorola phone today and stopped by the Land Rover dealer and it took about a minute for them to connect it to the LR3.
I cannot believe how well it works and how clear it is. I guess I'll have to store my 8 tracks and 33.3 albums and get with the real world
Leaving tomorrow on my 1,800 mile drive to California... (a week late leaving).
I've got the LR3 gassed up and ready to go! I'm thinking I'll take about 4 days driving out depending on weather.
I'm bringing my lap top so hopefully I can stay "tuned" to what you guys are talking about.
Mark
Apologies maybe I was a bit abrupt!
The AUX is the connection to the audio system plug in at the the rear of the center console.
The "Logic7" is the audio system.
You have to intiate the sound by pressing the "AUX" button once connected.
Sorry
It wouldn't be enough for most of the people I know... they want buttons.
I knew what you meant and I didn't take it wrong. I'm not a "techy" so some of those things come easier to others.
All a person has to know is a "thimble" more than someone else and they become the expert! To some of my relatives, I'm an expert!
Happy Roving to all! Mark
Here is what I am looking to learn. If any dealers on the page or any others...I would like to know.
1) Any new incentives on the way? (I have had a couple of private replies tell me yes)
2) Is the compressor problem limited to the 2005's or is it now also on the 2006's. If it is on the 2006's, was there an after production date to be aware of?
3) For x-plan leases; is it a static rate or is it still negotiable?
Any education appreciated.
There are also folks (like me) that have had no compressor problems in 13 months. There are also people with vehicles built <60 days ago that do have problems... both LR3 and RRS. (I know a shiny new RRS S/C owner with compressor issues.) In other words, don't worry about the year or the build time.
That is why LRNA does not tell us about them ahead of time because those incentives cost them money.
3. I am not sure what you mean by static rate? The residual is set by the bank we can't do anything with that. For X-Plan I think the price is either 4% or 6% over invoice with no reimbursment from Ford. Pretty good deal for zero work on your part. A/S/Z plans I am pretty sure are invoice with a 4% or 6% reimbursment from ford.
As to rate if you mean the lease money factor yeah you can negotiate that some but if the dealer is making no money from the front end what do you think they are gonna do with the back?
No Snow, No Hunting, No Four-Wheeling, No travel,
Just a big fat truck payment!!
replacement car: Pontiac G-6 POS
Another suspension error. The dealer says LR Canada has never heard of this problem and has no idea what it might be. Is that so? No-one else with the same issue?
The ride, steering, cruise control, climate control... everything is working perfectly! I'm getting into the mountains so the temperature is really dropping, so this morning, I was covered with frost and the "Heating package" work wonderfully!
I'm keeping up with the "computer gas mileage" compared to my actual (pen and paper). I'll check it once I arrive at my final destination to see if everything is matching up.
Looks like I'm getting 17 mpg at a steady 75 mph.
Have a good day. Mark
