let me know what you think of the Accord. I will check it out at some point. Hopefully not too much buyers remorse!

Though I did build in an "out clause" in 8 months if I want to execute it! My daughter is all on board for that.

I think you could get the pre-2016 Impala with a bench.

Yup. I listed that, but don't think he'd care for it.

I did send him a Towncar last night, but a 2006 Designer Series with 64k miles for $7990. He said he might go see that today. Has all the chrome spats and carriage top, so it is right up his alley. I know it is older, but looks nice and pampered.
if he is looking that old, here is a Caddy for even less money. I assume this qualifies as a bench seat?

I've been asked for some advice from a friend who is looking to surprise her husband with a TLX A-Spec, and curious what your thoughts are since it's the same car as you two recently acquired.

Here are the initial offers from the dealership (in NC), which I assume are well-padded (as an initial offer):

    MSRP: $44,409
    Sale Price: $40,884

Lease offer at 36 months/10k miles:

$422/month w/$5k due at signing (includes 1st month's pmt and NC registration)
    $511/month w/$2k due at signing

Not sure how much that registration is, but obviously my first piece of advice will be to avoid the upfront payment.

Apparently, there is an additional $2,000 incentive to lease vs. finance.

I'll check into all of it too, but thought I'd at least get your initial thoughts.

    Thanks!

Breld.....separating the trade amount (Q50) I was at $43K, all in...taxes, tags, registration, etc. So, I figure purchase price was somewhere near $40K, give or take, IIRC.

I don’t have my worksheet anymore, otherwise I could tell you the exact deal.

Michael can help on the lease side, as I don’t know what incentives are going on there.

Thanks! I've told her to target around $39k or so. Given they're looking at the FWD version (I initially thought all A-Specs were AWD), that should be attainable - figuring invoice less incentives plus a modest margin.

Our friend is looking to surprise her husband, who hasn't had a new car since he bought a first-gen Solara, which was a bright red that he loved. So, a red over red TLX will be an incredible treat.

    Thanks!

    Sorry for the delay!

    - MSRP on my AWD A-Spec was $45,750 and AWD adds $2,000 to the bottom line so I'm assuming the one your friend is considering is a FWD A-Spec with some accessories added.
    - My negotiated price was $43,500, which is essentially invoice ($43,471). Subtracting incentives ($2,250 lease only, $750 lease/purchase, $500 TLX bonus cash) put me at $40,000 even. It should be noted the $500 TLX cash was literally thrown in the morning before I signed for the car. I don't know if that's a regional incentive but it may be worth looking into.
    - Drive off for me included 1st payment, acquisition fee, and DMV. My payment is $476/month which includes 7% sales tax and 3% PA lease tax.
    - It looks like the dealer may be using all available incentives to get to the sale price with minimal dealer discount so in my opinion there is probably some room for improvement.

It looks like @graphicguy got the same price I did, albeit with a purchase which is awesome because he didn't have all the incentives I did to subvent the price. I'm happy to share more details if needed.

Miles are getting up there for an old BMW, too. Would be nice for the dealer to pull the BMW service records for the buyer, to see what has already been replaced. Seems pricey by about $2500--$3000

@pensfan83 ...I think around $40K is the price on an A-Spec SH AWD version, before taxes and tags.
@breld.....the FWD version should come in well under $40K. I think $39K should be very “doable”.

I also think it depends on the part of the country. I have a friend in the Bay Area who says he can’t touch one for under $43K.

We're starting to get 2018 models in. Saw some Altima's, Versa Note's, Chevy Malibu's and Cruze's and Kia Forte's at the unloading area this afternoon. Almost took a new Altima with 62 miles back to the office, but the lead driver told me to leave it. They seem to like us to wait a bit till we get brand new iron.
Got to drive a 2017 Subaru Forrester to the wholesale area today and was very impressed with the power of that 2.5 engine. Just touched the accelerator and damn, I was moving at a pretty impressive clip. Have always liked the Forrester's and Imprezza's and the new 2018 Imprezza is a really nice looking vehicle in either sedan or wagon. Will look at an Imprezza once I start my search and already have it on my short list.
Time to get the side view mirror fixed so will go over tomorrow morning and pay for it so they can paint it blue to match the rest of the vehicle when it comes in. This way they'll only need about 3 to 4 hours to install it and make sure all the electrics work. I drove a Kia Sedona this afternoon and it had a feature that should be standard on every vehicle sold. A button that when hit, both side view mirrors close into the body of the vehicle. Something like this would've prevented me from busting mine last month. Great invention I must say, and really really pissed about having to pay so much to fix the mirror!!!

Folding mirrors, power and manual, have been a thing in Europe for ages. Too eons to arrive here, likely due to our wider parking spaces, which are now becoming narrower as vehicles grow wider. I think a pioneer here was the 2000+ S-class.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,350
I noticed the other day walking the dog around the neighborhood that someone in the back who has an Audi Q5 actually used the folding mirrors to park in the garage. Fine for getting in, not so useful for backing out!

The only way my truck will physically make it into the garage is with the mirrors power folded in. Otherwise, they'd be chopped off. I have a 3-car but with 3 separate single doors.

I broke my passenger side mirror last month and the price to fix the damage is ridiculous! Went to VW and a couple of body shops and all prices were within dollars of each other. Seems they all must get the part from, you guessed it, VW! Absolutely crazy. Only the one I'm going with said if I paid it upfront, they'd get it in and paint it before they actually need my vehicle. This way, I won't have to rent another vehicle for a day or two, it'll take a few hours to complete if all goes according to plan. Sounds good to me!!!

Thanks T. It is OK for my needs. Not quite as full I guess as the one in the Sonata. Probably should have sprung for the premium package if I am keeping it for a really long time, but I can manage with manual CC, base stereo, and carplay for Navi. Besides, gives me more incentive to make a move in the future!

Read all the manuals last night (and there were a lot of them). Learned some stuff. Need to go sit in the car later and play with some of the settings and features, but should be pretty easy to learn. Might actually use all the functions on this car. But I am going to have to learn how to use Siri (in 3+ years of having an iPhone, I think I talked to her once).

I was surprised to see that Hyundai is still "old school" for maintenance. A printed schedule to follow, and no maintenance minder. And much more frequent oil changes required than most cars have now. Normal service is 7,500 or 6 months (sever is 3,750 or 3 months!). Technically I probably fall into severe with a lot of short trips, but I get enough longer runs mixed in that I will just go with the every 6 months option. The intervals for the non-turbo engine are longer (12 months I think), so they are being extra conservative with the recommendations.

Not really a big deal. The dealer has a "for life" program if you buy there. 1 hour drive through express service, with oil changes for $29.95, including a car wash. And buy 3, get the 4th one free, so makes it more like $22.50 each. I can deal with that 2x a year. Rotate the tires every other service, an good to go until 30K at least.

If the daughter inherits this car next year (still a pretty good chance on that!), she will also get detailed instructions on servicing. The Jetta was easy. once a year when she is home, I take it to the VW dealer. Next car, she needs to handle on her own.

When I leased my Elantra GT, i pre purchased the maintenance, as I was still delivering pizza and putting a lot of miles on the car. I followed the 3750 schedule.

Am meeting up with @jpp5862 and @breld this morning - breakfast first, then some test drives. @jpp5862 wants to test drive the RR Velar and (maybe) the Volvo V90. I'll try out the Elantra Sport and, if there is time, the 2018 Accord.

The first three dealers are within a mile of so of each other; the Honda dealer is a few miles from them.

Michael, you are driving my former short list! One of which I never got to . Oh well. Maybe next summer.

I also read for the first time recently (one of the car mags last month) about the next RDX due in the spring supposedly. All new platform (probably the CRV again) but with the 2.0t engine/10 speed trans. If that is true, and it is as nice as I expect it to be, even the wife might by into that upgrade plan.
