that would be tough to justify. Though I guess it is basically what I am trying to get my wife to do! At least for myself, I am justifying it my "needing" a different type of car! Would be a much tougher sell to the power that bees if I wanted to spend money to switch into something like a GLI.

That JSW is cheap basic transportation... It doesn't even have audio controls on the steering wheel.

Not good. We had a 2001 Volvo V70 T5 in a similar shade of blue (I think - I’m colorblind so who really knows) growing up and it looked great on that car.  On this car it feels like it makes the car look older.

Any idea what this 2017 Subaru crosstrek with 3300 miles could be bought for CPO?  A friend is looking at it for his daughter to replace an ailing Mini. It is listed as a Limited model with eyesight and Navi.

Too long ago for me to see what they paid but most are in the $24s. So figure somewhere around $28k-$29k CPO.

    How much are they new??

Looks like 30-32k MSRP but discounted locally to 28-29k. Seems like new and extended warranty  from planetsubaru makes more sense unless he grinds them on price successfully ??

Late model Subaru's generally don't make a used car bargain relative to spending a bit more and buying new.

From what I've read on the interwebs, iOS 12 will make older phones run faster than they did with 11. I hope so, as I want to keep my 5S for another year or so.

Agree with Bean, from what I've read also. it should make our older iPhones work much faster. Mine's a 6s Plus which I got on eBay brand new a year ago this past January and as much as I would love an iPhone 8 Plus right now, keeping what I've got until the right replacement comes along. I think we'll be just fine going forward with iOS 12 folks...think we'll be just fine!!
Saw the G I doc today, he did the procedure to get the gall stones out back on May 1st. He said I was truly very sick and another day, or two, I really could've died. He said my family really stepped up and did save my life! Unfortunately, the infection it caused made it necessary for them to just take the gall bladder out instead of waiting the couple of weeks like they originally proposed. Listening to him today and seeing actual pictures really was a wake up call for me, I was truly stunned! He said once I feel better, need to do the colonoscopy and I will do it just to make sure all is o k in there.
Since I've never been truly sick in my whole life, I will not be so stubborn going forward dealing with my health and I hope everyone in here does the same. Life is too precious to not do the right things for our own health. I know I've posted a bit about this but it really had an effect on me internally and in my mind. But now , think it's time to look to the future and let the past be.
Hyundai keeps calling so will try to get over there tomorrow and drive them. Saw something interesting online, a few used Infiniti QX30's. Mileage not horrible, 24 city/33 highway...wish it were better overall but the interior is pretty nice looking to be honest. And they have both 2017's and 2018's with miles in the mid teens for prices in the mid 20's. Not bad for what one gets actually as it's basically a Japanese Mercedes! Think I could live with that!
But, once I get back into my Golf and drive it, that damn smile comes back again! And there's my dilemma, I really don't want to trade out of my Golf quite yet. I know I need the front brakes done as the pedal is a bit low, the emergency brake is pretty tight so assuming the rears are o k. Just haven't had the time to take it in to my buddy to check it out and if I was to trade it, no sense doing any work!!

The 2018 Sonata 2.0 turbo limited seems to be about $28.5k with discounts. But that's about same price that you can get a 2018 Accord EXL 2.0 turbo--$28.5k, which is c. 4k off of msrp. The Accord seems like the better choice since they seem to be about the same price. Plus the Accord will have Sensing--lane keeping, full stop cruise, cmb, etc. Does Hyundai have anything like that?

If those numbers are accurate I cannot possibly make any case for the Sonata given what the likely resale value of the Accord will be in a few years. Even if the Sonata were to perform better or have a better set of gizmos and gadgets (which I doubt) I don't see how it can possibly compete if the pricing is similar. Maybe a typical Hyundai crazy-deal lease would be the only way.

Important to remember that BMW now offers a pretty stripped entry-level 3-series. Vinyl seats, rubber steering wheel, not fast, very few gizmos because all of them are packaged as extras. I see these on used lots here and while I can understand the appeal to someone caught up in the urge to ride around in something with the BMW badge on it, they do not look like something I would want. Nothing luxe about those versions at all. They seem almost like "secretary specials" and a recipe for buyer's remorse.

I remember when the A3 first came out in the US in 2005/06. They had base/stripper models that were quite compelling. Same drive train, same horsepower, same transmission, same wheels/tires, and more.

The cloth seats were actually very high-quality cloth and I didn't miss the leather at all. It was however, the ugly 4-spoke plastic steering wheel without shift paddles that threw me off. The sport package gave me leather seats with sport bolstering, fog lights, 10 mm lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers, roof spoiler (subtle), summer tires, and a beautiful 3-spoke leather wrapped stitched steering wheel with built-in aluminum shift paddles. That package made my first Audi an Audi, but it wasn't the leather seats that did it.

I haven't driven one, but my guess is that I'd enjoy a "secretary's special" 320i a lot. Back when I was a kid, one of my teachers when I was in Kindergarten had a newish BMW 2002. It had vinyl seats as I recall, and not too much power—just enough. That was about 1971, and I think the 2002 was maybe a 70 or 69. He was proud of that car. My older sister got a serious cut once, and I remember as he drove her fast to the hospital saying something like "oh dear, you're bleeding on my BMW!" lol. But he got here there on time and fast, and that blood wiped off the seats with no problem as I recall. It was a much simpler car, obviously, for a totally different era. But a new 320i, as long as it had a backup camera, would I'm sure have plenty of power for me. It might not have a lot of luxury or gizmos, but for someone who has driven Accords even an entry-level BMW would be a nice ride.

But no way would I ever get that past my wife. Plus I don't really want to buy premium gas....Or have my neighbors stare at me. There was someone on my block several years ago who had an older BMW 5-series, but with that gone I'm not sure if there's a BMW on the block anymore. We do have some newish Hondas, Subarus, Acuras, Toyotas etc. But BMW and Mercedes don't seem to be making serious inroads in my particular neighborhood.

I would not worry about what the neighbors think too much. My A3 had lower operating costs than a lowly Dodge Neon. So while they can get a cheap car on expensive credit paying more in interest than I do buying my Audi with cash. I don't let it bother me.

One legitimate complaint in rural "middle of nowhere" areas is that there might not be an Audi dealer within an hour driving distance. Lexus is easier, just take it to the Toyota dealership.

In terms of luxury/performance cars, my neighborhood has Audis, Acuras, and Lexus, but I'm not sure if I've seen a BMW or MB lately for a few blocks. There are some neighborhoods I've been in where you see BMW and Mercedes on every street, but for some reason not here. My guess is several to many have the income for it, but maybe don't want the "image" that comes with Mercedes or BMW? Just a guess. My guess is that Acura, Audi and Lexus are seen as the "sensible and practical" luxury choice in my neighborhood, even if that's questionable logic. Anyway, here in Louisville KY we have all the major luxury brands represented.

PS When I was a little kid, BMW and Mercedes (along with the VW Bug) were my first fantasy cars. I already told that BMW 2002 story that made me interested in those. But a family friend who acted almost like a big brother to me for a while had a Mercedes 240D. He was about 18 at the time, but I guess influenced by his parents, from whom he'd gotten the car, he was almost religious about the virtues of Mercedes. When I was about 10 or so and riding in his car, he told me that Mercedes was overall the best car in the world, and that properly and carefully maintained they would last almost forever (@fintail!). Somehow my childhood mind was fascinated by this idea of a Mercedes that was bought new and treated with great care, and which could potentially last so long that it would almost be the automotive equivalent of a perpetual motion machine. A few years later I had a fantasy that when I grew up I might someday get a Mercedes with the vanity plate BENSBNZ. But it was not to be.....

stopped at the Audi dealer today to chat with my salesman (he handles VW too at the sister store). Had a very snazzy A5 sportback on the floor, but the darned think stickered for close to $55K. who are all the people that can afford these things? Nice hatchback, but it still had the 2.0T so I imagine you can up the ante and get way more expensive than that.

talked to him about leasing at a NJ dealership as a Delaware resident. They are close enough to the border that they do it a lot, and are tied directly into the DE DMV, so just like buying there. Will likely try to do that with the princess. A lot more convenient, especially for me! She can always get it serviced down there anyway.

Now, they just need to match the price, since she will be on a tight budget! Thankfully leases are nice and easy to shop around.

I've never cared what my neighbors think as I don't buy my cars to make them happy; when I bought my 1973 Bavaria it was one of three BMWs in the entire county. I used to have some other elected officials ask me how I could drive a BMW and continue to get reelected in a rural county and I told them if people wouldn't vote for me because of what I drove that was their problem. In last month's election I never even changed my FB profile picture- a Long Beach Blue M2 executing a perfect tire smoking drift...

Very few people shop for cars the way many of us here do. They are perfectly happy to be "payment shoppers," that put "$2500, $2,999, or $3,500 down" plus tax, title, & DMV fees (between $4K & $5K) and drive out of the dealership with a shiny new car for $199, $299, $399, or $499 per month (or less) and not have to worry about it for 36 months.
