One good thing about that VW Cabrio is that even VW back then knew that a convertible needed a white interior, something most manufacturers now seem to have forgotten.

I wonder how @stickguy would look in an '80s big-hair blonde wig and a pair of Vuarnets. Maybe a Members Only jacket too.

I would not want black interior, but hoping more for tan than white. But I could make it work.

Better add a turbo or S/C to my mods list to make it meaner!

Well, following in @stickguy's path, we hope to get my stepdaughter into a new Jetta tomorrow.

With the $750 loyalty rebate, and a new "Jetta to Jetta" pull ahead program apparently just released, I'll be disappointed if the dealership can't get to the numbers I want...but it wouldn't be the first time.

Pens, Denver is not that far. And you have plenty of helpers out there to look at it for you. Could be a nice drive back, or not that expensive to ship. When you want rare, need to go where the cars are!

I actually like the CA one better. probably the colors. but an SH with newer clutch is not too shabby. Probably not a whole lot in the condition that one appears to be in, and not modified.

Fremont is very close to the SF airport. From the airport, you take Hwy 92 over the San Mateo Bridge, then south on 880 to Fremont. 30 minutes by Uber.

Between airfare, gas, hotels, food that's probably a fair estimate.

EDIT: Non-stop on United is $516 one way.....yikes. Aboard Delta it's $167 with a connection so with Delta yeah that's probably in the ballpark. I'd imagine shipping would tack on another $400-$500.

Well I'm definitely intrigued with the idea but the wife needs to be on board with an estimated 4 day disappearing act right as school is starting, fall ball practice starts, planning a Labor Day cookout, etc.

We're heading out for dinner once she gets home so the venue will probably be changed to her choice tonight instead haha

Perhaps Monterey Bay Fish Grotto is in order. The meal will cost almost as much as your car.

SJC (San Jose) is closer to Fremont than SFO or Oakland! And less delay-prone as well (especially compared to SFO).

Yeah, shipping would cost you about $1,200--$1,300 I would guess, using a reputable firm.

@pensfan83 - Well, I already reached out to the craigslist seller so I'll be happy to check it out for you if he/she gets back to me (the chances of acquiring it for myself are slim, so I'm happy to pass that opportunity on to you).

I paid $1,200 to have my Civic Type R shipped out from Kentucky to here, enclosed. On a more traditional open transport, it would have been more like $800.

On a separate note, I just got off the phone with the sales manager at my VW dealership and I'm ending up in the exact same place as @stickguy - the incentives just aren't there on a lease, and the finance/purchase route is much more economical.

Probably don't have time to get the deal done this weekend, but I'm looking to secure the deal for next weekend.

In 2007, I drove my FIL's '91 Subaru Legacy wagon with 140,000 miles from Colorado to California to give it to my son as a HS graduation gift. I think my pre-trip plan included changing the oil and the wiper blades.

Not one problem in 1100 miles. 30 MPG, as well.

@breld - let me know if you decide to hit up the VW dealer this weekend or next. Any excuse to look at cars....
