We really need a punch story. We're due, people.

My wife said her blood pressure goes up when I mention doing one of the following:
    • Trading in my higher mileage (nearly 40K miles) TTS for a TTRS that's very low miles and costs about as much as my TTS did brand new. Would probably cost me 25,000 or so.
    • Trading in my low mile (up to 27K today) '15 A4 for a recent model '16 S6 with higher miles (about 55K). Would probably cost me 12,000 or so. (maybe less; the S6 has rear accident history; perhaps minor...).
So I have more prep work to do on the significant other.

The CX-30 ticks a lot of boxes for sure but you still have Mazda's awkward infotainment system to deal with, and they are clinging for dear life to that 6-speed automatic transmission when just about everyone else has moved on.

Considering the trouble Ford and Nissan have had with alternative transmission designs it might be better to go old school. Unless you’re referring to regular transmissions with 7,8,9, or 10 speeds.

But yes, 28 is on the case here - $18.7K. Not much leverage on a car that was listed less than 24 hours before, but the dealer and I both knew this one wouldn't last long. Lesser cars have been going quickly, and this one is spec'd nearly exactly how I would have ordered one. N52 motor, 6 speed manual, sport package, winter package, no iDrive. In this exact color combo. So when it popped up, I knew the availability window would be limited. I wasn't going to lose my car over a few hundred bucks...

In fairness, I was looking to see what they go for up here. Literally the first result for 2011 Z4 on CL was yours.

    and importantly-

2011 Z4. Last year of the NA inline six. 6MT. 24K miles. My favorite color combo. Local car. Ad went up Monday night, in my driveway Tuesday evening.

Wow, that’s decisive. But when you think about it that’s the only way to go. A great car will disappear quick. The dogs hang around waiting for you to decide.

Nice color btw, that’s the perfect color interior for it too.

My 2014 228i was a bit cheaper than that, but if they had been offered side by side, that would have been a tough decision!

I've heard this one before. It should be called a Tesla Targa. Because it isn't a convertible.

All in how the PO maintained it and if you are handy/have a good Indy. Cooling system (water pump, radiator, expansion tank) is the major weak spot on these aside from usual wear and tear for cars of this age.

I'm hoping things are better in August; I'm planning a road trip to CA to visit family.

17 hour drive vs. a 2.5 hour flight, but I haven't done the drive in 8 years, and I miss it.

Likely rent a car for the drive.

M Performance Power and Sound Kit- a dealer or port installed option. A flash tune and free flowing muffler= more hp and a great sound complete with pops and crackles on the overrun. Warranty and fuel economy are unaffected.

Later BMW sedans have almost imperceptible AWD in normal driving. But, an E46 is not good, in that respect. Of course, finding a RWD wagon is almost impossible.

You don't need a BMW specialist to work on an E46, though. My local indy mechanic did a lot of the work on mine. You just need a good independent. And, parts are relatively cheap.
