That's cool. $22500 seems like a lot, but probably cheaper than restoring yourself.

This car has been at the dealer service center 5 times (across two dealerships) in the past several months for this issue that results in an extended crank time after sitting for several hours.

@mb_enthusiast How have you been? How's your dad?

As to the problem with the Cayenne - how long does it take to turn over when that happens?
I've been generally ok. I had the good fortune of kidney trouble just as the lockdown got underway. That meant that I had a very painful stent for three months. I just had it removed last week. So much more comfortable. But, I am now a opiate addict, and withdrawal from Tramadol, hydrocodone, and oxycodone has been hard on my mood.

My dad got a hip replacement and was in acute rehab for a while. They tried to get him to move in with me. But, it was quickly established that my house was incompatible with his needs. He moved to a sub-acute facility a couple of weeks back. Really hoping that he continues to recover and picks up steam.

I've had a problem with stones since the first one passed when I was 19. Genuinely thought that I was going to die. Since then, I've passed a handful. But, these were simply far too large to pass. I had a 9mm stone removed, and I had lithotripsy to remove the largest stones (also over 8mm) still in the kidney. Fingers crossed that I've moved past it. But, of course, the risk of producing more is more likely than not.

well, it is a Volvo dealer in Manhattan, so entirely possible the asking price is somewhat "ambitious". I do recall that the AWD 6 speed is pretty hard to find so might go for a premium, for a nice one.

You need to keep a stone and have it analyzed and do a 23 hour urine analysis to determine if there is a medication that will prevent stones. Trust me, I’m a doctor 🙃

Big problem with that V50, is it is black over black. Don't care what it is, that ain't happening for me.

doing a national search on cars.com, there is exactly 1 listed. Much better color combo, if you don't mind 100K more miles to save $4,000! Though seems to have had a bunch of work done on it, and comes with some extras. I actually would not mind having this one. At $6k, would mind it even less!

I’ve mentioned this before, but my mother in law’s 2017 Ford Edge SEL’s lease is maturing in August. She asked me a few weeks ago what she should look at. I told her to check out another Edge, an RDX, Passport, Blazer, & Grand Cherokee.

Last week she tells me she wants to look at a Jeep (Wrangler). I tell her that’s great as long as she drives it 1st and is ok with entry & exit. I know she really wants a convertible, but tell her the soft top is a pain to put down all the way and the hard top is difficult to take on and off. She tells me she saw on the Jeep website that they make a power top now. I know her and my father in law think that Jeeps are cheap vehicles. They drove a wrangler with a power top and thought it was OK. Then they were given a stratospheric lease price. They drove an RDX, a Passport, and finally got back to the Ford dealer where they have bought 4 of their last 5 Fords. Drove a new Edge & liked it. They dealt with a green pea who knew less than nothing. Asked to speak with a manager and the GP kept saying SM was busy, but kept going back to check with him. GP gave them a price that was way out of whack. They walked and went to another Ford store. Spoke to a sales person, they got a price that is $51 per month cheaper than they are paying now (for a newer car with more features). They pick it up Wednesday. Dealer (or Ford) is eating their last lease payment.

I asked why they waited and didn’t take delivery on Saturday. MIL said they noticed the rear part of the pano roof was cracked. They are having it replaced under insurance tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer. Not likely to happen.

What is likely to happen is that I'll inherit my mom car - 2003 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 with less than 40,000 miles on it. My sister and I made the painful decision to move my mom into an assisted care facility - a private home with 6 residents and 2 full time staff.

The house she lived in for 50+ years was pretty much packed up this past week. My ex-wife, my son and his wife, and his wife's daughter will be renting the house from us to help defray expenses.

I've talked about the Sonata before - it has some deferred maintenance that needs attention. The cruise doesn't work, it likely needs new hoses and belts, and there is a known problem with the gas fill system that needs to be fixed.

I know the car has Michelins on it, but don't know the age. How old would they need to be before I consider replacing them? I'm expecting to drive it back 1100 miles from San Diego to Colorado in a couple of months.

The Sonota sounds like a JRgo special. The tires, I thought the rule of thumb is 7 years, but since the car is in SoCal, might be longer since not subjected to winter and cold. Even that is not a hard rule. Just check condition. If the tread is good and sidewall is not dry rotted, most likely you will be fine.

I would be more worried about the belts and hoses. If you are definitely keeping it when you get it back, and it needs this stuff anyway, I would get the important stuff done out there. New serp belt, rad hoses, oil change/coolant/tranny flush, should be easy enough to get done anywhere.

Made an appointment for the 5k tire rotation on the Tundra. I thought I'd give Oxmoor Toyota a try since it's close to me and really, it's impossible for them to screw up a tire rotation, right? Went to their website to schedule, and they wanted to sell me a "premier" service package (adding only an oil change) for $116. When I backed out of that menu and selected the 5k "complimentary service," the website told me it would cost $35. Sounds about right for "free."

I made an appointment with Wyler Toyota with no issues. I will pay the toll and go across the river to Clarksville before I deal with the clowns at Oxmoor.

Yeah, pretty much what I figured.

The car has been garaged its whole life, so I suspect the tires are good. I had it up to 85 last summer when I was out there, so I know the car is strong.

I'll likely take it into the dealer there before heading home and have the maintenance stuff, the CC and the fuel filler neck attended to.

Wouldn’t UV rays be tougher on a tire than snow and ice? I would think a tire that spends a lot of time in a garage vs out in the sun would hold up longer.

AM Rapide parked on the street. Wow, is that thing gorgeous.

I'll try to get pix the next time I see it.

    Speaking of used Volvos, I found a 2010 V50 T5 AWD with a 6-speed manual. 80k, give or take, for $11,995.

    It's at Volvo of Manhattan.

Let me know if you want me to check it out for you. I’ve got to make a delivery in that neighborhood tomorrow.

That could be a quick sale on CL if you want to avoid the hassle.
May do that, as well. It's not that we need the third car, but where else are you going to find something like this for the low price of $0 (well, plus the cost of the repairs - figure $500-1000).

I wouldn’t repair anything that doesn’t pertain to passing a safety inspection. Buyers at that level might actually prefer some defects if it keeps the price down. In my experience any car that passes inspection is worth $1000-2000 easy. Seems to be a huge market for A to B transportation.

Tires - my parents got a warranty adjustment on a five year old set of Michelins on their Honda Element because they had weather cracking and the tires were becoming unstable in the rain. It’s garage kept in an attached garage, and rarely sees extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. Go figure!

I don’t care for the color on that XC60. Also, it’s a T5 - I wonder whether you could put a chip in it?

By the 2017 models they're all the Drive-E 4-cylinder turbo, not sure what performance mods are out there yet.

And I agree on the color... isn't that what people in the biz call "no-sale blue?"

There's a late model/current style Optima of all things, a new arrival to my parking garage, with a fart can. I almost suspected the car either lost its exhaust or had the cat stolen etc, but by the dark (maybe illegal) window tint, dark license plate cover, etc, that it is intentional. Sounds pretty awful, I don't know why someone would do it to a normal family sedan.

JRgo has his latest hooptie, a 2007 M6 v10. Best feature, it has side skirt trim added, which turned out to be strips of vinyl house siding.

Makes you wonder what corners were cut on the expensive mechanicals. Already determined to need bearings (crank?). I’m sure there is more.

Makes me feel better about repair the whole in the floor of my Corolla with a spare house shingle. Actually worked great!

    Car trivia time!

Name the cars driven by the following characters:

    Ferris Bueller's dad
    Ferris Bueller's mom
    Edward Rooney

Bonus points if you can recite the license plates.

Extra special bonus if you know - or think you know - the meaning behind those plates.
