Would have liked the adaptive cruise, but they force the safety group on you for a total of $1800. No thanks. As for the safety nannies, I’m good. Haven’t had them for 30 years and I’m still alive.

Yeah, but WHAT ABOUT TOMORROW?! :D

So, is yours also a hybrid?

Oh, I guess I had a punch today, too.

I bought a 6'x12' tandem axle cargo trailer. Well, I initiated an order from the factory, which they say should be ready in 10-12 weeks. I must pick it up in North Carolina, though; they said that shipping costs for trailers has gone through the roof this year (didn't say why). When I told him I wanted it delivered in Oregon, he said that it would likely be another $4-5K on top of the purchase price. I had him give me his zip code, looked up the routing from Ohio, and said, "Nah, I can pick it up." LOL

It should work out well. I think we will probably pack up, leave Conneaut, head down to Ohiopyle (PA) for a few days of R&R, then head another 400 miles south to NC to pick up the trailer (and hopefully visit with my brother if he can get the time to drive up from Jacksonville). From there, we'll head directly west to Oregon to visit family, fill up the trailer, and then head home.

Yes. Hybrid is the one that makes sense for flipping thanks to the fed incentive.

Well. I did it. Will be joining your club soon, @28firefighter . Rather than play games, I just reached out to the famous Jeep broker. Custom order, 9% off, minus $7500 rebate, plus a low dealer fee of $220. I’ll have to pay shipping again and the broker fee, but seems to be worth it. I mean, the way I see it, even if I got 7.5% off on my own through hours and days of grinding, I’d still have a $600 dealer fee, and very likely still some transpo cost. So, all in all, it is probably a wash using the broker, and I’m saving lots of time and ordering exactly what I want.

I decided on Sarge Green. Was almost going with Snazzberry but I really want the saddle leather and don’t think that pairs too well with the berry. Green over brown is way nicer as a combo. Plus, my research at auction values shows that green wranglers actually have the highest resale. Getting the black hardtop, headliner, cold weather pack, rubber mats, and grab handles. $54.7k MSRP. Broker has everything he needs at the moment to get it all rolling.

My figurin’ says I should be at about $43.9k total cap cost, including all fees and taxes.

The Sarge Green is a cool color, especially with the saddle interior. Makes me think of all the JGC Limiteds from the early '90's that were all the rage when the SUV boom kicked off. Snazzbery over Saddle is sharp. My cousin has a Gladiator Overland in that color combo. You've got the auction numbers. I'm sure the Green would be easier to flip than the Snazzberry.

This has got me thinking... Maybe I should look into this. I wonder how easy this would be for me if I use my New England broker. I think he's offering 6% up to a certain MSRP & 6.5% off over a certain MSRP. Hmmmm. Something new for me to obsess over and try to convince my wife that this will work. Of course the day I take delivery will be the day that the chips come back and the market floods with cars that have been waiting for chips.

what's the payment going to come out to on that deal? Maybe I should finally get the Jeep I wanted way back! But I still like the 2 door.

But darn, those suckers got really expensive on the sticker.

That might work for a fun toy but I wouldn’t want one for a daily driver unless you are a real outdoorsy type.

I also prefer the 2-door Wrangler but the ride is a bit rough and think it would get annoying pretty quick. Guessing over time, one would get used to the ride but as nice as it loos, just not the vehicle for me.
Wish I could also get something new and flip it to make some quick cash. Seems like minimal work for a decent payout to be honest. But time wise, am spread pretty thin right now with both part time jobs. Truthfully, not sure how long I'll keep the Toyota gig. Think if Sundays came back at Enterprise, I'd opt for that instead because I really did like it. Was a shorter day with a small group of drivers and we all got along nicely. Just like our foursome now. We've been together mostly since Day 1 and we work very well together. We joke easily and poke fun at each other in a good way. Over time, we've learned a lot about each other and it's always a good time, just doesn't feel like work! More like when I was in my fraternity at college and turns out, I'm a frat brother with one of the other guys though w went to different colleges.
Well, must get ready to go to work. Really like the later starting time of this shuttle gig to be honest. Usually get up around 8 or so and take things slow until leaving around 12:15 or so. The dealership is also super close to our house, just under 3 miles, so I can make it there within 10 minutes easy. Parking in the employee lot is close to our office so works for me. The only negative about working in the afternoon, I never know what keys will be there for me to use. I got the older Prius last Monday and seems it's the last vehicle chosen. They also have a Camry and a couple of last generation Rav4's but one is out due to an accident. So never know what keys I'll get and we keep them for the whole shift. I've never liked the Prius, especially the split rear window, though the mpg's are impressive.

I guess I'd be worried about ordering and waiting... and, the market turning south on me.
Mostly, because I have absolutely no need for another car. Even $410/mo. would be a total waste, if I couldn't roll out of it.

Of course, I notice there is zero inventory in the hybrids, around here.

Sales tax automatically kills any kind of lease deal here in Texas, so I'm out.

Sounds like a heck of a deal though, even without "flipping". $54.7k MSRP and $409/mo with $0 DAS sounds very nice.

Congrats on a great deal to @qbrozen!

But $4 or $5k for delivery sounds outrageous. If that's real, it sounds like an excellent money making opportunity for some of our retired friends here in the forums who still enjoy driving and road trips. An all expenses paid road trip to Alaska, and money left over, what's not to like?

So the thought process behind this (today, I understand things can change and go south REALLY fast) is that upon delivery, the Wrangler 4Xe will be worth more than what I paid for it?

Yeah, I thought it sounded outrageous as well, and we're not even talking about Alaska delivery... this is to Oregon! Trailers, in general, are a bit different than vehicles because they don't generally fit on the purpose-built car hauling trailers or in Connex boxes. They basically have to stack them up with a large forklift on another large flatbed trailer. In that respect, it's perhaps a little more specialized in terms of how many carriers there are available to haul them.... ? Still, that's nearly doubling the price tag, so it is quite cost prohibitive. If it was an $80,000 unit and I'm having to pay another $5K, maybe I can rationalize it. LOL

I need to go with an enclosed trailer in order to help ensure that the goods inside remain separate from the weather, and dust, and rocks, etc., that a trip to Alaska will undoubtedly involve.

Yes, @nyccarguy, but I’d be careful if that’s why you’re interested. My $.02 on this is that I think the buyers (carvana, vroom, CarMax etc) will normalize price downward and there will not be the gains folks think (if any) on 4xE. I would not be acquiring one with the intent to flip unless you’re prepared to keep it and drive it for the duration of the lease because CCAP does not allow lease transfers.

I’m prepared to keep it but I doubt I would beed to. Wranglers have absurd resale normally. Getting close to 25% off new is, IMHO, money in the bank.

Yes, was just pointing out to the kids how, if not for the Benz, we’d have an all-FCA driveway.

My MSRP went up. Dealer rep says the proximity key is no longer optional … yet is still charged as an option. So now I’m at $55.4k. Order is in and I should have a VIN this week.

I would jump on this, big time, if it didn't involve leasing. Leasing is a no go here in Texas.

I came out ahead more than $7k on the dieselgate deal, so I would be willing to gamble again.

Had the Prius again at work today, those were the only keys left when I got there at 12:25. As I suspected, was asked about doing more hours each week! Told them Thursdays are a definite no go but Sundays only on a dire dire emergency as I really don't want to work 6 days a week. Now, on Saturdays and Mondays, that's going to be a different story. Asked me to come in at 10 Monday and changed that to 9:30 as I was leaving tonight. No problem as we're short Monday. He originally wanted me to do a double shift Monday but working from 7 am to 6 pm was a bit of a long day. 9:30 is a bit easier, and have a feeling that it'll be 10:00 starting a week from Monday which I can do. Saturdays we'll have to talk about on Monday but think 11:00 would work for me. Luckily, they bring in sandwiches for the workers so I'd have lunch on them. Today they had ham & cheese, turkey, tuna fish & a steak one, and the ham & cheese I had was delicious. It's a nice gesture, really. Also got paid for one day this week. Getting $9.00/hour which I can live with and get paid weekly which is nice, same as at Hertz. The weeks goes from Sunday through Saturday, explaining why I got that one days pay. Get $10.00/hour at Enterprise so between both gigs, should do o k. Since I just got the new iPhone 12 and Apple watch SE during the last month, the extra income will come in handy building up my savings.
Best part, get to do something I love doing...and get paid to do it! Now, how cool is that, really!

When I pulled into the employee parking lot, a truck came in with new vehicles and a blue Rav4 XLE. Later in the afternoon, saw a customer driving that new Rav4 and figure she either bought it or leased it as it was in the new car prep area when I was leaving. Not surprised at all, as even the bunch of pre-owned Rav4's has declined since I was last there. Not surprised about this one bit, as my co-worker at Enterprise got his pre-owned 2019 Rav4 there a few months back. A very nice vehicle and he loves it. We plan to bring it over to the house soon to do the garage test and see how it fits. Just so I have a frame of reference for when I find something, hopefully in 2022.

The ads here are ceaseless. Oddly, I don't see a ton of plate frames.

There is a dealer in Idaho that might play ball. You’ve got PM.

Sounds like Dave Smith time. :D
I swear that half the Wranglers in Alaska came from that dealer. And, maybe a quarter of the trucks. :D

People just love those RAVs. My mom has a 2019 XLE. I’ve driven it plenty of times and can’t necessarily say anything bad about it, but still can’t warm up to it nor would want to own one. This is her third one and her millionth Toyota, (seriously it may be her tenth) so it’s apparently just me.

Sandy, it is way bigger than your indicated max length (170"?). So doubtful it will fit on the short side.

I was browsing used car prices. Wow, just wow. 2017-18 models, almost 4-5 model years old with some 2022s now available, priced $3-5k higher than I expected. 2019-20 models priced as if they are new cars.

I think that’s what people don’t understand when you tell them you’re making minimum wage. Most of us would do it for free. :p

@28firefighter I really like the Jeep, great color! I was intrigued by all of the talk about them so stopped to test drive one yesterday. I agree, it's a great powertrain combo. At the end of the day it's still a Wrangler and probably not something I'd be content with for a daily driver but I have to say it's a very impressive package.

I've been sharing with @michaell and @breld that I'm more than ready for my Rivian to arrive, but not completely unexpected it keeps getting pushed back and as a CCBA patience is not a virtue I possess. The Model3 has served it's purpose to show that an EV works for me and is what I want, however a sedan just does not fit with how I use a vehicle in daily life so I'm more than ready to move on to something that works better for me.

I also drove a MachE yesterday, it's a great vehicle and while not as fast as the Tesla it seems to be a better car overall (quieter, better built, more intuitive controls, etc.). It's not different enough for me to switch out but if I were buying new today I'd be hard pressed to choose the ModelY over the MachE.

Overall it's great to see more choices coming to market, obviously there's still a ways to go on the EV front but there's also a lot of progress being made.

speaking of EVs, Costco has $2k this month toward an XC40 Recharge. Add to that $500 Penfed and $7500 Fed incentive for $10k total off. Close to 20% off (for a purchase). 4.5 s 0-60 and 200-mile range. Doesn't sound too bad.

Oh really? I didn't see that. The costco and penfed are good for leases, too.

The XC40 would be my first choice actually, the only problem is the 207 mile range is a bit short for me. Around town and day-to-day it's no problem at all but weekend trips to the mountains make it a bit of a stretch.

just checked the lease. Would not be very good. RV is quite bad. 24/10 is better than 36/10. Comes out to over $500/mo on a base model and with NJ's no tax.
