In the 52 years I've been driving (first 5 years were all motorcycles) I've owned 7 cars, plus my Kenworth. The cars were driven a bit over 900K miles -- one MGB, two Datsuns (240Z and 510), two Mazdas (Miatas), one Lincoln LS and one Acura TSX. Only one of them was built in the U.S. Even my KW was built in Canada. I've also driven rental cars a bit over 170K miles.
170K on rentals?! That's impressive.
I think I may be in my 20's now, but I still own a quarter of them. No matter how many I end up owning, I'll never admit to more than 29.

last time it came up I had to write up a list. I think it is up near 40? 50? now. Need to find it. Should put it in Excel so I can easily sort by stuff like brand!
1 VW of my own, 2 more counting the kids (+ 2 Audis). 3 Hondas but 5 Acuras. Plus lots of other stuff. Only major brands I know I never owned are BMW (really should fix that!) and MB. Oh, and everything GM other than 2 Chevies (only 1 registered though). But I did have 2 AMCs!
wait, I did have an Opel so I guess that counts as a Buick.
Yeah, funny enough, I just did the same thing, @stickguy. Horrible, but, hey, as I get older, maybe it will help me remember details (I added a "notes" section).
Including parts cars and gifts (either received or given), I am, somewhat surprisingly, at 19.
I figured that my #1 brand would easily be.... (any guesses?!) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . That's right, Subaru. . . . . . . . However, it's not! At eight vehicles, the winner (by one) is Ford.
2018 Subaru Crosstrek, 2014 Audi Q7 TDI, 2013 Subaru Forester, 2013 Ford F250 Lariat D, 1976 Ford F250, 1969 Chevrolet C20, 1969 Ford Econoline 100
this is extremely cool. But they really should have included pictures with the top removed to see the bulkhead. But what is not to like? great classic engine. 6 speed stick.
With some old trucks and SUVs skyrocketing in value, a really mint Aztek might not be the worst thing to buy and hold, if it is cheap enough. There will be nostalgia for that era, it is growing already.
I see those NASCAR-themed FWD Montes as turn of the century boomer kitsch. Heck, the dustbuster is cooler, especially as nice ones are getting thin on the ground now - nobody saved them. There's an Olds Silhouette in my neighborhood, at a hoarder house, so it kind of looks the part. A real rarity in 2021.
I may start a Pontiac Aztec collection and hold them until the public comes to appreciate their value.

Someone in here was talking about a foam cannon, which triggered my interest. I have watched videos on youtube before, and was slightly interested but never enough to follow through. But this time I did, and I just got through using it for the first time.
The foam is impressive, I’ll give you that. Looks just as neat in my driveway as it does in the videos. But it doesn’t clean that great. You still need a brush for your wheels, and a wash mitt for the low parts where dirt and muddy water splash up when it rains.
And the bad part is pulling all of the wires and hoses around. You have a water hose, and the high pressure hose, and the electric cord. And the high pressure hose is not going to reach all the way around the vehicle, so you have to move the pressure washer and 2 hoses and 1 cord at least twice. Which is a bit of a chore. I think I’ll just stick with bucket washing (or better yet keep paying the neighbor kid).
45 years a driver, cars I have paid for (myself and ex included):

I’m not OCD enough to have kept track of how long I had most of my cars but I think it averages about 8 years. That’s because 8 years is the amount of time a car lasts in the northeast before rust destroys it. Usually it’s only when parts start falling off in the road that I consider selling.

I put you down for one of everything.
Not sure when the manufacturer list was done, but it has changed for a lot of people since then.
Oh, heck no. Still so many I am working on owning, such as Ferrari, Porsche, Jag …
Personally, I do like to count subsidiaries as their own manufacturer. I mean, while there are some instances of badge engineering, many times they don’t have an equivalent from the parent company. I may have to revisit some on my list because I may have some confused. For example, I’ve always counted my CJ7 as an AMC. But I guess it is just a Jeep and I’ve never actually owned an AMC-badged product.

Longest is most definitely my Prelude: 19 years and counting
Average comes out to a tick over 4.5 years. Take the Prelude's full 19 year tenure out of the equation. I daily drove it for 9 years and it averages out to just under 4 years (3.86).
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2025 Camry SE AWD
"1974 N Mazda RX-4 4 speed mt, silver" Reminds me - a 1972 RX2 - only rotary/Wankel I have owned. And 1980 Audi 5000 - only 5 cylinder I have owned. - Ray Oddballs...
Longest: 11 years and 4 months with the Volvo V70 Shortest: 1 year and 4 months with the del Sol (should have been longer if not for a bad lane change by a lumber truck)
Average: just over 4 years, and only counts the time either wife's cars were actually in my household.
Take the Volvo and the current Jetta out of the equation, and the remaining ten cars average right at 3 years, which is also the median for all 12.
My longest ownership was my 1999 Jetta VR6, about 4.5 years. Shortest was the 2008 Pontiac G6, about one year. I'd guess my average is somewhere around two to three years.

My cheapie Harbor Freight cannon just attaches to the garden hose. Very easy
I decided to break out the stats before and after I got married to my wonderful and enabling wife (to whom I’ve been married to for a bit over 10 years).
Pre-Krystal...average length of ownership 28.3 months, which includes an outlier 7 month ownership period of an Infiniti G20t. Longest was 59 months - my 93 Prelude Si.
Post-Krystal...average length of ownership has been only 9 months. Oh boy...we have issues, but we all knew that. Longest was 34 months for our Odyssey. And we’ve had a handful of 2 month ownerships (an Audi TT, my first Durango, and a GLC).
Long and short? Long, I think our first RDX at 8 years. A couple others at about 7 (accord and odyssey).
Sort? Not counting HS hoopties or spare temp junkers (so just real cars), about 9 months on some toys (Miata and integra). Year and a half on a new car (Nissan PU and Scion tC)
Average, for “my” car, maybe 3 years? Family car, more like 6.
Longest is my 1991 Mustang - will be 30 years in August. Shortest, 10 months, a 2013 Escape bought in Jan 2015 and traded in November 2015. Nothing wrong with it, just decided to go in a different direction.
2024 Ford F-150 STX, 2023 Ford Explorer ST, 91 Mustang GT vert
My wife's car is a 2012, she'll drive it until the wheels fall off because it's just transportation to her. I think the longest one I've ever kept is the Pilot, got it in 2016. All the others were leases which I took to term, give or take a few months

Average comes out to a tick over 4.5 years. Take the Prelude's full 19 year tenure out of the equation. I daily drove it for 9 years and it averages out to just under 4 years (3.86).

Shortest: 1 year and 4 months with the del Sol (should have been longer if not for a bad lane change by a lumber truck)
Average: just over 4 years, and only counts the time either wife's cars were actually in my household.
Take the Volvo and the current Jetta out of the equation, and the remaining ten cars average right at 3 years, which is also the median for all 12.

Sort? Not counting HS hoopties or spare temp junkers (so just real cars), about 9 months on some toys (Miata and integra). Year and a half on a new car (Nissan PU and Scion tC)
Average, for “my” car, maybe 3 years? Family car, more like 6.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Shortest, 10 months, a 2013 Escape bought in Jan 2015 and traded in November 2015.
Nothing wrong with it, just decided to go in a different direction.
I’ve had my 63 split window coupe for 3 ish years but it’s a 63, but I was born at the end of 64 so I can’t claim it all sadly
