The new Civic looks good and is getting decent reviews. Seems the new version is a little slower than the previous version (perhaps needs to be broken in) and road noise is still an issue. Looking at the Honda site all Civics come with an impressive suite of safety features and overall standard features. Too bad XM radio is only offered in the top Touring trim. Interior color looks very restrictive to mainly black and some exterior colors (very few) are available with a two tone light gray/black interior.

I think SiriusXM satellite radio is going out of fashion, at least with the younger crowd. It is becoming seen as an “old folk’s” thing. And no one wants to cater to the “old folk’s”.

One clue is that SiriusXM is now making it possible to subscribe with only minimal effort to a plan at $6.48 per month, which is even less than Spotify or Pandora. And with this plan, you can stream to your phone (or to your TV if you have an Android device such as an Nvidia Shield).

Another clue: looking around on Crutchfield for a new head unit for my 2013 F150, if I restricted the search to head units with SiriusXM capability (via added tuner), the list became very short. Most of the units available today do not allow for SiriusXM, even the $500 and up units. There are a few, but not many.

It would seem that satellite provided entertainment is on the way out, radio and TV. AT&T now owns DirecTV and they are trying to get everyone off DirecTV and on to their new streaming service. They have announced they will put up no new satellites, so the service will eventually die out.

I like a lot about it. Good point about interiors though. And typical Honda, they keep 1 of my must haves out of the trim level I prefer so have to spend a lot for the top trim, and get something I don’t want.

I agree, Honda has for many years made it impossible to get what you want, only what they want to sell. About 5 years back I was very interested in a CR-V, took several test drives in different models over a period of several months. Eventually I was unwilling to make the compromises necessary to do business their way.

I am going to disagree with you here. Baby boomers (senior citizens if you will) make up a very significant part of the population, and we have a very large part of the discretionary income. If companies want to ignore us and cater to the younger crowd, that is their loss and I will not hide under a rock. I will make my voice known, and you should as well.

I noticed that they no longer offer the EXL trim level of the Civic, you jump from the EX to the Touring. The EX is the sweet spot. I agree, a power seat is a must.

My wife would not handle it well if the normal cable disappeared and she had to navigate multiple streaming services and devices to watch TV. Especially if she couldn’t watch a show live. Even though both our kids long since cut the cord.

Also why having XM is nice. Turn the car on, radio comes on, and she can just thumb through the 12 presets of her preferred stations when she doesn’t like a song (which seems to be most of the time!)

I’m surprised XM hasn’t added custom channels to replicate a Pandora service. Maybe they have that on the streaming app (which I normally don’t use).

True. My accord was an EXL. That was perfect. Added XM and power seat. I think on the civic they are letting the touring replace it. Which is fine if the EX had a power seat!

Including my current vehicles, my average length of ownership is 7.2 years.

Longest: 1969 Ford Econoline at 27 years and counting (I split up this one, which I acquired in December 1994, from the 1971 Econoline, which I acquired in August of 1991. I really only ever had one van because the '69 was bought for parts, but the "parts" included the whole unibody!).

Shortest: 2008 Ford Focus at five (5) weeks. I bought this one in late May of 2019, did some reconditioning on it, and then gifted it to a friend a few weeks later.

My favorite Ford dealer in the area has this. Insane price. These were, what, $55k new before discounts? And this example is almost seven years old. You can probably buy a comparable used 5-series for less.

My wife adapted much better than I thought she would; everything streams through the ROKU stick that is plugged into the AVR. All she has to do is turn on the TV and AVR; she usually doesn't even have to switch inputs.

My wife had a R18i when we met. Fun car, but reliability was an issue. I loved the Fuego but wasn't comfortable buying one after the issues the R18i experienced.

I’ve been reading over in one of the Forums dedicated to the Ford F150, and there is a Ford dealer up in Iowa who will order a new Ford for you at invoice minus the 3% dealer holdback. Of course, at this exact moment in time, the delivery date is “up to the gods”. But still that gave me thought.

I have never custom ordered a new vehicle. I have bought any number of new cars and trucks, but never once custom ordered. This is something I just might do, once things return to normal.

I have been playing with the ordering / pricing options on the NADA web site. I can get a new 2021 F150 XLT Supercab with a lot of nice things included for around $45k. The 3.5L ecoboost engine for one. I have owned 3 of the 2.7L ecoboost engines, but never had a 3.5L and would like to try one. And I think I would like the supercab this next time, I always used to buy Supercabs until the dealers only started keeping SuperCrews in stock.

And this is with the 302A package (highest available on the XLT), and sliding rear window, power adjustable pedals, 360 degree camera, navigation, trailer towing package and other goodies.

MSRP $48,525, invoice $45,270, minus 3% dealer hold back leaves $43,865. I just sold my 2018 for $37.5, and that lacked several of the nice features on this one. It was a supercrew rather than the supercab, but I think I would rather have the supercab. Hmmm….

What’s the story on ordering? How much do you put up? And is that money “at risk”? And what if 6 months from now the truck still hasn’t been delivered?

This would require an airplane ticket and a road trip, but I think I have one more road trip in me before I die. And several of my female acquaintances claim they are addicted to travel, so a companion for the trip is always possible.

The 3.5L ecoboost engine for one. I have owned 3 of the 2.7L ecoboost engines, but never had a 3.5L and would like to try one. And I think I would like the supercab this next time, I always used to buy Supercabs until the dealers only started keeping SuperCrews in stock.

And this is with the 302A package (highest available on the XLT), and sliding rear window, power adjustable pedals, 360 degree camera, navigation, trailer towing package and other goodies.

MSRP $48,525, invoice $45,270, minus 3% dealer hold back leaves $43,865. I just sold my 2018 for $37.5, and that lacked several of the nice features on this one. It was a supercrew rather than the supercab, but I think I would rather have the supercab. Hmmm….

What’s the story on ordering? How much do you put up? And is that money “at risk”? And what if 6 months from now the truck still hasn’t been delivered?

This would require an airplane ticket and a road trip, but I think I have one more road trip in me before I die. And several of my female acquaintances claim they are addicted to travel, so a companion for the trip is always possible.

The process for placing the order is up to the dealer - they may require a deposit, but it would be up to them whether it's refundable or not. If you pick decent options and colors, they may make it refundable, thinking that if you back out, they still have a good shot at selling it off the lot.

You and the dealer would have to come to an agreement on the delivery window - get something in writing that states that if the truck isn't delivered in a specific amount of time, you get your deposit back.

A call to the dealer in Iowa should answer most of these questions.

Agreed; it is a painless process in my experience. Deposits on my vehicles were $500 (purchase price at about 50% of that F150), though I never asked about refundability as I never considered that things might fall through.

And, I have usually been able to get a ride from the dealership, so flying in and picking up has been a pleasant experience. Plus, that road trip? Just enough to give you a bit of an appetite for more road....
