Not a big deal really. I was in a turn lane wanting to go left. There were two vehicles in front of me and they had a green light and no oncoming traffic though they both just sat there. I pulled out & around them and proceeded to make the left in front of them. Naturally, all of sudden I hear sirens & a cop with flashing lights behind me, He gave me a ticket after I explained what happened. A bonehead move on my part...yes, absolutely. I got one of those traffic attorneys and have a court date on 9/3. He'll go for me & plead the case so all we can do is wait now. Dumb [non-permissible content removed] move on my part and no longer am I going to be in such a hurry. I'll get there when I get there!

Assuming the Maverick performs similarly to the Escape and Bronco Sport with the same powertrain, I'm thinking it may be the least expensive new vehicle with AWD in its performance category. Figuring a 0-60 time in the low 6 second range, the AWD Maverick XL 2.0T starts at $24,795 with destination. Am I wrong on this?
There's also the same phenomenon with the Maverick vs. Escape/Bronco Sport pricing that we see on larger trucks--if you can live with a bed instead of a taller enclosed cargo area with glass, you'll save thousands.

Have your lawyer claim that the front car was broken down and the car in front of you didn't realize it, so you were forced to do the logical thing which is to cross the solid line and pass on the right
Or better yet, claim a medical emergency... hard to disprove

If it appears on your driver’s abstract it has to be reported before the company does an annual review of your record. When a utility truck backed into my personal car I had to tell them even though their driver admitted 100% fault and they paid for all repairs.
When I was first interviewed they wanted to know about an accident on my record from 2015. I had no idea what they were talking about until I remembered that some clown had bounced off the back of my school bus while I was stopped.
NYS state in it’s infinite wisdom just lists that you were “involved” in an accident without any explanation of the circumstances. You could be sleeping in bed and have someone crash your parked car or you could be speeding 100 mph in a school zone and take out a van full of nuns and your record would just say “involved”.

I’m confused about the “have no control over”. Either you were speeding or you were not. Either you passed illegally or you didn’t.
You have control over your choices.
If you make a mistake, then own it and learn from it and do not repeat it.
Maybe you mean you have no control on how this case will end up. It will be plead down to a lesser penalty with your lawyer there. Maybe you will get lucky and the policeman will not show up and it will be dropped. Spin the roulette wheel.
I’m genuinely confused by your thoughts. You don’t want a new to you car with a bad carfax (accident) but you drive a car with a bad carfax and keep putting off getting a new vehicle with a warranty and no out of pocket expenses.

I agree. The Maverick with the 2.0 and AWD options is going to be a performance bargain. The whole Maverick line is a great deal, but a practical and speedy utility vehicle for 25k seems amazing.
The Civic Si is considered a good deal for a performance vehicle, but the Maverick 2.0 AWD will almost certainly be significantly faster while also costing less.

I'm confused. Why is everyone saying "AWD"? It will be cheaper, lighter, and faster without AWD.
Maybe. But AWD, of course, allows you put down all the power without spinning your wheels.
In my TLX, as humble as it is when it comes to power these days, if I floor it in Sport mode from a stop the tires will squeal almost like I'm in a 70s cop movie. But my wife's CR-V with similar power with the 1.5T and AWD can put all the power down without squealing the tires.
Mercedes says it's going all electric in ten years. This is happening faster than I expected.
Still seems like there are questions about whether all of these batteries are actually going to be recycled at the end of a vehicle's life. It's technically possible, but is it actually happening? And there are environmental costs for mining the materials that go into the batteries.
We all know that gas engines have big environmental costs. Electric vehicles are seemingly better overall, but there are still going to be some significant environmental costs in terms of making the batteries and dealing with them when they are worn out.
If electric vehicles really take off in the next few years then demand for gasoline will slowly start to fall. At some point will this bring falling gas prices?
"Mercedes-Benz Plans to Go All-Electric by End of Decade Daimler’s flagship auto maker intends to invest over $47 billion in battery electric vehicles by 2030 By Dave Sebastian Updated July 22, 2021 12:35 pm ET
Mercedes-Benz AG said it is gearing up to go all-electric by the end of the decade, the latest move by an auto maker to accelerate its transition to plug-in cars.
The Daimler AG flagship said Thursday that it plans to invest more than €40 billion, or more than $47 billion, between 2022 and 2030 in battery electric vehicles to reshape its business around producing electric vehicles. The target signifies a shift from an electric-first to an electric-only approach, the company said.
As part of that plan, the company said all newly launched vehicle platforms will be electric-only from 2025, and customers will be able to pick electric versions for every model the company makes. Combustion-engine vehicles will still be available for purchase as long as there is demand, but Mercedes-Benz isn’t planning to develop new models of fuel-powered vehicles beyond 2030, Daimler said.
The company said eight Mercedes-Benz electric-vehicle models will be made at seven locations on three continents as soon as next year. Mercedes-Benz said it plans to set up eight factories for producing battery cells, as it will need a battery capacity of more than 200 gigawatt hours for the entire vehicle fleet.
Part of the plan is to expand the company’s charging network for vehicles, it said. Customers will get access to Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s more than 30,000 charge points in Europe, China and North America by 2025, Mercedes-Benz said."
Gas might get more expensive since it costs the same to drill, Pump, ship and refine. With a lot lower volume to cover overhead. Plus many gas stations will fold.
Still a long term issue. The existing stock of ICE will still dominate for a long time, even if some relatively low volume makers stop selling new ones.
But then I'd be lying and I'm just not a good liar...never have been and guess I never will be. Honestly, have no idea how this will all play out in court but will just have to wait & see. One thing that concerns me about electric and to a certain degree hybrid cars, is if they catch on fire, the intensity of the fire seems to be much greater and much harder to extinguish. I don't pretend to know what % that this is happening, but with more on the road this could be a greater problem than anticipated. Our first responders will need to be equipped to better handle these situations.

That’s fine and a noble effort just as many automakers are doing. I still need to see a plan on covering the US with charging stations. How can we make the family road trip to Disney without charging stations along the way? I guess there will always be a handful of holdouts. Trucks will probably be the last to go full electric so as long as they are making ICE trucks an SUV can (fairly) easily be made off that platform. It will be interesting to see how long American performance icons the Corvette and Mustang last as ICE only.

The Goodyear Eagle tires on my TLX are not surprisingly showing considerable wear at 44,000 miles. Still, my amateur eye says maybe 10,000 more miles?
How old are those? Look more aged than worn to me.
I'm going to guess 4 or 5/32nds at this point, which is still usable tread. Not the best tires to begin with, however, IMHO. I'd replace before winter. Or sell the car.

Note the fine print in the MB electric announcement is along the lines of "where conditions allow".
My question about this push is personal charging infrastructure. Those who rent virtually never have it, and my anecdotal observations in recent house shopping also show effectively nothing.

I know that we will have many volunteers to sit there for the 45 minutes or so it takes to charge the company vehicles.
More seriously, with the frantic push to take fossil fuel production off line I worry that we will get to a point where existing electrical production won’t be able to keep up with demand. I know the response to that is that most people charge at night during off peak but at some point with millions of EVs that won’t be the case. Hey guys! Just returned back from a 2 day trip to Hershey Park. We had a blast! The Pilot performed flawlessly as it crossed over the 73,000 mile mark somewhere on I 78 East last night.
On the topic of electrics. I believe they would satisfy 99% of mine & my wife’s driving needs. We could fill up/top off every other night. Even our past 2 road trips (CT to NH/ME/MA & CT to Central PA) would have been done without having to stop. I’m sure infrastructure & battery technology will keep improving. I’m not against the adopting of the new technology. 2030 - 2040 seems far enough away, but very close at the same time. I’m not against electrics. I’ve driven a friend’s Tesla Model S 75D and was thoroughly impressed with the way it accelerated.
Like it or not, oil is responsible for a lot of jobs. Big board room executives, workers at the refineries & who work on the rigs, truckers, diesel mechanics, gas station owners, & their workers. When I fill up with gas, I know (think) the tax revenue goes to improving roads and transportation in my state. The gas station owner is most likely a small business owner like myself. When I charge my car/truck up, I’ll just be giving more money to The power company.
It’s got me thinking about a “last hurrah” sometime in the next 10 years. A Boxster/Cayman/911 that I’ve lusted after for decades is just out of the question. Maybe I’ll have to give one of these new FR86/BRZ Cars a test drive.
Dropped my truck off at the dealer the other night before we left. I told my Service Advisor about my accident and showed him the physical damage. Then I told him that the right rear end felt very loose and bouncy since the accident. He had his techs check it out and he found the right rear shock was leaking. He also asked what body shop I was using. When I told him, he said the truck will be better than new when it comes out and that’s where he’d bring his own personal car if it needed body work.

Right as we were pulling out of the driveway to leave for our PA trip, the Service Light (A1 - oil change/tire rotation) came on in our Pilot. 15% oil
Life remaining. Down to 10% by the time we got home last night. Got a $59.95 Oil Change/Tire Rotation coupon from the new Acura dealer that opened in town. They moved here from Greenwich (1 town south, once the largest NSX dealer in the world). I called and asked if they can do an oil change & tire rotation on a 2017 Pilot which is the mechanical twin to their MDX. “Sure, bring it down.”
They have a gorgeous TLX Type S (White/White & Black Interior) sitting outside. A few new MDX Techs & RDXs. The sales manager is outside helping his guys shuffle cars. “How do you like your truck?” I tell him I love it and how it’s my 1st pickup…. He says he’s got a 2020 GMC Sierra with the Duramax. Loves it. He then asks what I’m looking for. I tell him I’m bring our Pilot in for service. “Thanks for stopping by. If you are ever in the market…”

10k / year. When I got it I was at my old job driving into the office everyday.
No way I’ll come even close to 30K by next August.

Or better yet, claim a medical emergency... hard to disprove

The Civic Si is considered a good deal for a performance vehicle, but the Maverick 2.0 AWD will almost certainly be significantly faster while also costing less.
In my TLX, as humble as it is when it comes to power these days, if I floor it in Sport mode from a stop the tires will squeal almost like I'm in a 70s cop movie. But my wife's CR-V with similar power with the 1.5T and AWD can put all the power down without squealing the tires.

"Mercedes-Benz Plans to Go All-Electric by End of Decade
Daimler’s flagship auto maker intends to invest over $47 billion in battery electric vehicles by 2030
By Dave Sebastian
Updated July 22, 2021 12:35 pm ET
Still a long term issue. The existing stock of ICE will still dominate for a long time, even if some relatively low volume makers stop selling new ones.

My experience has been that rain and snow traction becomes unacceptable far before the tread starts to look bald.
I'm going to guess 4 or 5/32nds at this point, which is still usable tread. Not the best tires to begin with, however, IMHO. I'd replace before winter. Or sell the car.

Will wind and solar pick up the slack and if yes, at what cost?

On top of that the last little bit of tread wears much faster than the first bit of tread. Who’s going to tell him that? I hope he’s ready when the bill hits.

@Sandman6472 - Can we petition the moderators to change your name to rebelwithoutacauseFL? Just kidding. Don’t beat yourself up about it anymore. We all do stupid things when we are in a hurry. About 15 years ago at 7:00 on a Saturday AM in a snowstorm (in my Prelude), I drove around a white Ford Expedition that was literally going 5 mph. Guess what? It was an unmarked police vehicle. I got a ticket for excessive speed (I don’t think I broke 20 mph) & for having a loud muffler. $100 parking fine and no points. Guess how careful I drive in that town to this day?
