after 30 miles, I am impressed so far!

I can see why they have been so popular. And I expect they will be even more so after some get out in circulation.

    Well, shoot.

Showed the wife the picture of @stickguy’s Maverick, and got a thumbs down. Too long in front, too stubby in the back.

I don't see how it could possibly be any shorter in the front. If she was looking at the pic of it in the garage, the angle is deceiving her.

I don't think it is really long in front (the hood). Just looks it because it is more boxy. But yes, stubby in the back but even an F150 looks that way from the side (to a much larger scale!) Looks different in person IMO.

this one is probably pretty rare spec. A Lariat (top trim level) without the luxury package, and a FWD 2.0T engine. Added on copilot 360, a moonroof (or course) and trailer hitch.

the other one on order is an XLT, luxury package, hybrid.

I found an M240i xDrive in Illinois. It has everything I want, but two things I don't- AWD and a hole in the roof...

Dealership? Which one? I’ll take your scraps. ;)
Isringhausen- it has the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package and even the illuminated M door trim. The Brooklyn Gray is nice, but I'd want the OTT Thundernight (purple).

My wife told me to drive up there and buy it, but I refuse to compromise.

It looks like I’ll be holding on to the 2er for the foreseeable future as every potential replacement is either unobtainable or too expensive.
So, today I spent some time with the Bronco and Wrangler configurators. As it turns out, there’s not much difference in price when they are comparably equipped. If I go with something new it will almost certainly be a two door Wrangler Willys- with Alpine audio, the Cold Weather Package, and the hardtop. I’d go with the turbo four and ZF 8HP as that combination both quicker and more economical than the V6. On paper the Jeep is $1,060 more than a comparable Outer Banks but I can probably knock that number down considerably.

XM only comes on it if you add the Lariat Luxury package. No navi option at all, which is fine by me. They assume you will use your phone, which I do. Same I assume for the music. That I need to spend some time playing with. I have the XM app but never used it so I might figure that out tomorrow.

Here is the short list for options when the Tundra's lease ends:
    • Buy Tundra lease out
    • Lease a Tacoma
    • Order Ford Maverick
    • Buy used Jeep Cherokee 2.0T AWD
    • Buy new Honda CR-V 1.5T with performance chip (This is the dark horse and might work, but unfortunately, there does not seem to be good data on the effectiveness of the chips that are on the market for this engine.)

The top two are the most likely scenarios, but I'm open to suggestions. I had an EV and a couple of PHEVs on the list (VW ID.4, Toyota RAV4 Prime, 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV), but the usefulness of the tax credits to me is in peril given that they are non-refundable credits and that there have been proposals to limit or eliminate the ability to do Roth IRA conversions, which I otherwise could use to recoup the credit. In the case of the RAV4 Prime, it seems that the only ones being produced are loaded models, and they command a substantial premium over MSRP, and I'd only be interested in a lower trim model *if* I could snag it for sticker price and could claim the tax credit.

Although the acceleration times in most car magazines are somewhat bogus, they are still useful for comparison. Anyway, Car and Driver has just tested a Maverick 2.0 awd, and they got a 0-60 time of 5.9, which is not that far from a base BMW 330i at 5.6. Anyway, for the money the Maverick is a fast vehicle.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a38516737/2022-ford-maverick-xlt-fx4-by-the-numbers/

stickguy: Did you end up going for the 0% financing? If so, those payments of c. 750 a month are steep, but the equity will obviously build up very quickly. Even right now you could probably sell it for several thousand more than what you bought it for.

The latest I heard on the chip shortage is that it will only slowly abate in 2022. According to one article I saw, things aren't likely to truly get back to "normal," whatever that is, probably until the second half of 2023. If true, this will likely mean that there won't be a sudden collapse of car prices. With all the lost production and pent up demand we've got, used and new vehicle prices are likely to remain high for the first half of 2022, and then only slowly start to decline after that. And so in 6 months or so when your Maverick hybrid arrives you should still be able to pocket a handy profit on your 2.0 Maverick as you make the trade.

depends. are you making an offer? Cash talks you know!

I will decide when the hybrid comes in (I am guess Memorial day at the earliest) if I want to trade for that. Will depend on how I like it, and what the $ situation is. Of course, if something else pops up I want (like an Integra) and they make a good enough offer, can swap it for something else.

but I assume I will keep it for a while.

I’m curious, on a restored pollution choked year like that, do they remove the pollution controls and install something better? I believe I asked this before and someone told me that it depends on the state laws but I can’t imagine buying a car with 1974 pollution controls still intact. It would be a drivability nightmare.

I believe I asked this before and someone told me that it depends on the state laws but I can’t imagine buying a car with 1974 pollution controls still intact. It would be a drivability nightmare.

I had an "Expert" in another topic tell me that my 2002 would have run just as well if it had all the OEM pollution controls- of course he had never driven a BMW of that vintage with OR without pollution controls. I have, and you immediately removed the EGR garbage and the vacuum retard on the distributor to make the car an enjoyable drive.

Happy New Year from sunny & hot South Florida! Do us a favor, please send some cold weather down here, it's been a very warm winter so far...too warm!! Luckily, they fixed our a/c this afternoon.

Currently 14 degrees here in Colorado.

Supposed to drop into single digits mid-morning tomorrow, then warm back up to the teens.

Predicted lows tomorrow night are close to 0.

Cold enough for you? Care to move back to NY?
It’s going to be 50 for two days in NY so bring your t-shirt. :p

What’s the fire situation out there?
I think they are under control, or contained.
