Sigh. Looks like all the PNW dealers that were dealing on 4xEs are no more - so I'm looking at shipping from the east coast which significantly complicates matters and adds cost in the form of shipping.

Was really hoping to cash out the equity and get another one, but alas, may not be worth the hassle...I hate shipping cars cross country right now.

They're at about 8%, but markup the MF by .00040 and then I'd still have to ship. Would eat up the savings. I can get 500 under invoice here, but not really worth it to flip for that.

For the second year in a row, I'll have driven just around 3K miles or just a tad over. How should this possibly effect my insurance rates for the following year? Did get a ticket for going around a couple of stopped vehicles not going on the green arrow. I paid a lawyer to go to court for me where I got no fine or points, basically nothing from what the lawyer said.
Hoping that won't have any implication and that my driving so few miles will help lower it a bit. During the year, seems we got a couple of checks back from our company, but not sure why. We each pay under $1K for insurance right now. Not really sure how they rate the north Broward County to be honest. But, I wouldn't mind paying a bit less each year. Do think that eventually, when I stop working, we might go down to just one vehicle but not sure when that will be. At 67, feel like if my health holds out, I might want to keep my job at Enterprise for awhile. We still have a few guys in their mid 80's doing it a couple days a week. And a couple that probably should hand over their keys if you know what I mean! My son asked me over the weekend how I like it and told him it's not like a real job...it's like hanging out with your buddies, having a few laughs, and oh yeah, we have to move some vehicles from here to there. I feel like I've known these guys for years and we just get each other...I can honestly say we laugh a good 80% of the time. The folks I rode with Sunday were from different crews and I could tell the difference immediately. All business & not much joking around so I just went along with the program. Am so glad they kept a part of our old group together after we came back from our furlough but think we all asked for each other when the big boss asked where he should put us. He knows we work well together and get the job done with no fuss...our liking each other is just the icing on the cake, so to speak!
Hoping that I'll be doing more Sundays until season ends as my wife will be working Sundays during tax season anyways and the extra pay is a nice addition. Got a bunch of small projects we need done around here since we're staying for at least another 5 or so years plus our kitchen and master bath both need some serious attention. And am hoping with the kitchen, the wife throws the decision making to me like with the guest bath many years ago. Got it done with my contractor just a bit over budget and it still looks nice. I think with $10K or so, it could turn out very nice & something we could enjoy as long as we're staying put. Nothing like out of a magazine but functional with nice finishes that she'll like. Not over the top though.

I know this is not a popular option, but I've swapped batteries in iphones several times with very positive results. Plenty of youtube videos you can follow, and you can buy a battery on amazon that comes with a toolkit to get the job done.

There are a few repair shops near me that do it. I think by the time it’s needed most people just feel like a new phone instead and take the trade in.

This group really shouldn’t judge for doing that!

The newer phones / tablets that have the displays attached with adhesive, you could not pay me to work on. I think it was $49 at the Apple store to get a new battery put in my old iPhone.

Yup. Comes loose with a little heat. It is surprisingly easy to do.

Was $49 the whole job or just the labor? $49 would be very cheap, and I'd opt for that next time. I thought it was usually at least $99.

Doesn’t help you, but I can commiserate. The S4 DSG SC V6 I had 10 years ago was troublesome from the get go from new. Fun when it ran right. They’re fragile. That’s for certain….especially for an alleged performance sedan.

Yeah, I've done it before. Wasn't my favorite thing in the world and I was paranoid I'd irreparably damage something causing me to (1) not have a phone, and (2) make the phone worth nothing. Seemed worth spending the extra to have someone else do it until T-Mobile offered me some crazy amount of money on trade.

And neither one works without a battery. A replacement battery along with a hammer and chisel is a lot cheaper than a 2 or 3 year contact for a new phone.

@qbrozen - I had them do the entire job. I had a bad experience trying to replace a display on an iPad with the adhesive, and swore never to attempt it again. No amount of heat (with a hair dryer) would make it come loose, even though the iPad was too hot to touch. I ended up sending it off to a specialist.

Did the actual math this morning.

Local dealer is offering me $500 under invoice to order a new 4xE. Assuming December rates, I'd be looking at $564 at sign and $564 a month including tax, everything.

If I used a broker, I'd be looking at roughly 8-9% discount, but would need to add the higher doc fee of $499, broker fee of $499, and shipping of $1000-$1500, which adds $2k-$2500 back to the price. On the low end it'd save me $350 and on the high end, it would actually cost me $900 more.

    Makes no sense.

Assuming I conservatively flipped my current 4xE and cleared $10k profit, the $200/month higher price would eat up about $7200 of it....

Only way I could see this making sense for my time is if:
    (1) They could give me a fairly high trade value and figure out how to offset the tax on the lease, which IS technically a think here.

    (2) Doing a 1 Pay to reduce the interest.

If both of those landed in my favor my effective monthly would be about $409.

My son has done this a few times now. He has this nifty electronics tool kit called "ifixit" that has a whole array of very nice options in it, and he makes thorough use of it on a regular basis!

I'm surprised that the process took so long, @28firefighter . It seems like anymore you can just link the two devices and the new one will duplicate what is on the old unit. I think that mine took about 30 minutes, tops.

I suspect my transfer issues were unique to me; I use an authentication app to centralize all my personal logins with two factor authentication, so I needed to move that over. I also had to move over all of my work stuff (email, Slack, apps, etc. ) one-by-one while sitting in front of my work computer authorizing them.

If I go to the store (1.5 miles away), they don't have stock there. They have a 3rd party that hand delivers the phone to your house, and does all the set-up, there. Works great!

Yeah, I will admit that the 2-factor authentication thing didn't play nice with me. I still haven't sorted it all out; I know that Google 2-factor is completely broken. It thinks it is working, but the codes I get are not accepted on the other end. :(

Supply shortages are annoying. Turns out I forgot to order the spray in bed liner (only realized when it wasn’t there),though that’s likely why it got built so quickly. That was very limited availability. And I took the tonneau cover off the order for the same reason.

But, poking around, at least the covers can be found. Very limited stocks do depending on the day, might wait a while or take a 2nd choice. But a PU without a cover is much less useful!

And drop in liners just don’t exist. So it’s either pay a lot more for a spray in, or just run with painted metal and hope it doesn’t scratch.

If I wasn’t possibly flipping in 6 months would be an easy decision! I just don’t want to put the cover on then decide to do a liner since it has to come back off. At least the cover can be removed and transferred over if a new truck appears.

The factory spray-in liner is cheaper than the local places? Surprising, most of that kind of stuff is the reverse of that.

My... stepfather?... has a newer F150 and he was waiting on a spray-in liner (Salem, OR, area). Six months in, with the vendor citing supply chain issues, he happened to be at another company and saw them doing a spray-in liner while he was picking up some heavy equipment parts. He inquired, and they said they could squeeze him in the next day. I don't recall the name of the liner, but it turned out beautifully and seems quite durable. $600.

When I asked the cost, he said, "six." I replied, "Six thousand?! I'm not sure it's worth it." He laughed and said, "No, $600! Are you kidding me? I'm not made of money."

It’s actually about $30 more to do it local. But they might do a better job. Ford farms it out to a supplier near the plant who seems to go for speed not top quality work! Drop in liners are more from Ford. If they could be had.

Stick - if you are looking for a cheap bed liner, get some cardboard and cut it into 2 pieces roughly the size of the bed. It will save the paint from scratching. You definitely need a tonneau cover.

I may be frugal, but I ain’t that cheap! Though with a tonneau on, spreading out some moving blankets could work! I just hate seeing scratches in the bed.

I will probably break down and pay for the spray option. Definitely can’t transfer that though! I don’t have to do it immediately. Still searching for a cover that I will have the liner place throw on when they are done because I’m feeling lazy.

That is nuts. If you get a small discount, your residual will be higher than purchase price!

My guess is that as soon as the production issues are resolved, the 18 month term and the super high residual will go away.

Don't think that is available from NMAC.

Yes, the rent charge is roughly 8x the depreciation, with that MF, assuming $35K MSRP and selling price.

@stickguy , definitely don’t leave it just paint. I made that mistake before. It scratches SO EASY. At least get a rubber matt for now.

I have a tarp and blanket stowed under the back seat. But for now, just not putting anything back there!

I feel bad enough that it got dirty today from road spray.

That’s part of the problem. Stuff gets in there and stays there. So leaves, sticks, bodies, the usual, just roll around in there killing the paint.

FWIW, the RV on the Frontier S Crew 4x4 is now 99% for 18 months, 10,000 miles.

All about the money factor, in that case!
