No surprise here, but in Korea, it’s being reported that the Hyundai Sonata, the Kia K5 and Stinger are to be no longer. Production stops this summer.

Too bad….when I had my Stinger, that was large fun. And, I bought it well, when they couldn’t give them away. Sad to hear they are going away.

I figured the Stinger was not long for this world, sadly. You can’t sell a car aimed at the entry-level Euro market in a Kia showroom- never mind the absolutely horrible quality of service. I dodged a bullet by passing on a GTS.

I wanted to like the Stinger but I felt they were doing the American technique of overpricing it so that the real world price was much lower than the MSRP. It was more of a VW interior for me, and felt overpriced because of that.

I had to take a Stinger to the shop Monday with the stated problem “brake problems at high speed”. Indeed, the brakes felt mushy even at not “high speed” but I’m guessing high speed had something to do with it.

I realize that the company has to buy whatever it can to supply the fleet but renting Stingers, 5.0 Mustangs, SS Camaros and Hemi Challengers to the public seems like trouble waiting to happen.

I can see that being an issue. Brakes on my Stinger were a little “mushy” feeling, but they worked fine.

I’m a couple of years removed from mine, but I did like the interior and thought the materials were quite good, and reminded me a lot of Audis materials and design (understandable, given its designers).

Shame it’s going away. I would have loved to see a 2nd gen of it.

As of now, it’s something of a cult car. They didn’t suffer the same Kia bugaboo of poor resale.

I do agree that the biggest issue was selling it in a Kia showroom, with the “what’ll it take to get you into this car right now” attitude.

But, that’s why it continues to exist (somewhat) as a Genesis.

The talk of the Stinger makes me think of the all-but-forgotten VW Arteon. @michaell mentioned to me that it basically gets a version of the Golf R drivetrain for 2022. Hard to believe that model is still around, much less getting improvements.

Having said that, a sleek, 4-door hatchback with 300 hp and AWD is not the worst thing to have in the showroom.

EDIT: I just now went to C&D's website and this is on the front page...

I had to re-read the paragraph a number of times that stated they achieved a 0-60 of 4.6 seconds (with launch control)?

looks like I am going to be "2nd chairing" a purchase soon. The princess just moved into her new apartment (in a condo building) and effective 9/1 will be leasing a parking space (in the garage). she also found out that a street parking permit in that area of Boston is free, and supposedly at normal times parking is relatively easy to find. I might be a touch skeptical on that part! so she wants to start looking next week, and if she finds something sooner she will get it and just leave it at the curb (I shudder to even think about doing that).

no clue how long it is going to actually take her to find a suitable car at a price that she can stomach. But she is Jonesing hard right now. especially since they are trying to do a lot of running around shopping for stuff, and apparently getting a Turo when they need to go to Ikea, etc. is getting to be a drag.

I don’t think I knew him 75 months ago … I’d have to think about that.

But, between him and the missus, at least 40-50 would be my guess.

Looks like the hybrid/traction battery in the Prius is dying, almost exactly a year since the previous owner had it rebuilt by a local Prius expert. I'm going to try to run a test on the Dr. Prius app to see if I can figure out how many of the cell modules are causing issues and then try to figure out what the process is for matching/replacing them.

Chris Fix had a good video showing the process for replacing Prius battery cells.

I saw a couple people (JRgo and 100% Jake I think) mess around with them on a Honda (Civic and Insight). Time consuming, but if you understand what you are doing, not that bad. Really just looked like a bottle holder with a bunch if individual battery tubes in it. Just had to check each one for health and swap out as needed.

    Sorry to hear that.

Did he buy out the lease or would that be an added complication? Sky’s the limit otherwise.

For my area Edmunds says $23,700 trade and about $25,300 for private party. That seems low in this market. I’d almost be tempted to buy it myself if I could figure out what to do with it.

Don’t most of those battery rebuilders offer at least a 12 month warranty? Maybe have the rebuilder check it out??

I think that's true if you buy an entire rebuilt pack vs. taking it to "the man" to have your existing pack rebuilt. I have the receipt for the rebuild (July, 2021) and it says 6 month warranty and an additional 6 months prorated, so basically worthless at this point. It also says the warranty is void if the CEL is on, which mine is due to a catalytic converter which is worn out. This also made me realize that paying someone to rebuild a pack is probably only going to get the worst cells replaced, and the marginal ones left to fail shortly after the warranty is up.

showings start tomorrow first thing. So far I have 14 scheduled over the weekend. Hopefully more will pop up during the weekend. I really wanted to break the 20 barrier. I guess as long as they all make offers that could be enough!

man I am tired of sprucing the place up. just turned it into a model home for the pictures Thursday. Now just finishing cleaning it up for the riff raff to come trooping through making a mess! at least it came out looking great (actually shocked me how good we did).

probably more importantly, the new compressor finally arrived from Lennox and the AC guys put it in today. So the house is now a meat locker again the way the wife likes it (me, I am ready to put on sweats, a hat and my gloves). Probably going to make it easier to show though.

I think you have pulled the plug at the absolute top of the market. In a few months, rising interest rates and a slumping economy might make selling tougher. Good timing.

Been pouring on & off for hours now. Was a pretty wet day at work but luckily, we weren't that busy. Supposed to rain through early afternoon. It's now 2:50 in the morning and the area between my neighbor's house & ours is already flooding! Television said we could get between 5" to 8" when all is said & done, and I believe it now.
Before I even clocked in today, was asked to work tomorrow, Saturday, and possibly Sunday. Said yes for Saturday & will wait to hear about Sunday but will work if asked at this point. The extra income is nice as our home insurance bill is due by months end & it went up about 25%! Hate hurricane season & all hurricane's to be honest & just wish I could get the wife to consider moving out of state!

I think you have pulled the plug at the absolute top of the market. In a few months, rising interest rates and a slumping economy might make selling tougher. Good timing.
I would agree with that. My house is now worth so much I'm tempted to sell, except where would I live then?

showings start tomorrow first thing. So far I have 14 scheduled over the weekend. Hopefully more will pop up during the weekend. I really wanted to break the 20 barrier. I guess as long as they all make offers that could be enough!

That’s the challenge we have. We would love to move out of our neighborhood for a more remote and private location where we aren’t governed by an HOA and can have room for a nice organic vegetable garden. That is not allowed here. We do like our house, however, so that is a plus.

Being lazy and really don’t feel like reading the 4XE Mega thread on LH…. Ship has sailed more or less, correct?

Wife saw one today and has interest, only reason I ask.

Stay safe Sandy. You have me wondering, what does Enterprise do to protect their cars during a hurricane. Do they go into a parking garage or what. Up here in a blizzard we might put cars in an ancillary lot for snow removal but basically the operation keeps going.

Anyway, you may have hurricanes but we have “the white death” up here.

    And the “brown death” too.

It still is pretty good considering the market. Should be in the $17k range for a 36/10k one-pay on a $60k Sahara.

So probably $525 or so monthly. Agree, still good for the market.

Not sure where they go when a hurricane is approaching to be honest. Hope I never find out either!
Working Sunday it seems, the rain was so bad, one of the other drivers turned around & went back home. Yes, it was a very bad 18 or so hours but since the roads were clear, might as well come in. Glad I did as there were 2 of us drivers and we were quite busy, so busy that we left work for tomorrow! Just glad to get some extra hour to be honest, working a couple weekends a month is fine with me as it gives a nice bump to the paycheck. And in these times with the way things are, quite happy to be making some more $ and am willing to do the extra work for it! Got that dollar raise last year with another one coming later this year, so it helps with or bottom line.
