Hey gang.. sorry for the drive by post earlier.

So as I’ve mentioned a few times, I was leaning toward a pickup to replace the S60. Ended up seriously looking at Frontiers (decent programs on the 18 month lease if you can find it) and also Tacos which are actually quite plentiful and decent leases for the times. However, as nice as they both are neither were really doing it for me.

GM and Ford trucks aren’t worth leasing right now, however a broker on LH had some really aggressive deals on RAMs.

Ended up reserving an incoming 22 Ram 1500 Built to Serve edition with the E-torque 5.7. Black over black CC short box 4x4 Pretty well equipped but missing some safety nannys.

    MSRP - 58 and change.
    2000 OOP - $496 monthly 36/10. $500 broker fee.
13% discount, 1750 conquest. MF near zero.

Effective $565 including broker fee. I’ll take a sub 1% deal in this environment.

More truck than I’ll ever need, but I’ve wanted a full size truck for some time and said what the heck. Delivery is probably sometime next week. It’s coming out of Florida and picking up in north Jersey. Only hiccup is if it arrives too late for July program and August is very different. It just got to the dealer in FL.

Here is pictures of what I’m getting. The wheels aren’t my favorite, but not jet black so I can deal with it.

    Nice!

I guess I’m not worldly enough to have seen that movie. I’m not much of a movie goer anymore. Although I did see a few Lone Ranger movies when I was a kid and lots of Bugs Bunny cartoons back then too when I went to the movies almost every Saturday morning when the family lived within the confines of the Burgh. Actually walked many blocks to do that but that’s unheard of today.

Made a trip to pickup my uncle's 2018 RAV4, which I need to sell for him. I've had the title for a couple of months, but needed to get the car.

No issues. Look at the title. There is a lien on the vehicle with Toyota Motor Credit. A vehicle that he paid cash for. He was 90 when he bought it. He's never had a car loan in his life.

Call the county clerk for his home location. They pull up the paperwork. Yes, the form has lien information, and his signature.

Call TMC: No, he's never had an account with us. And yet, I still need a lien release from them, before I can get a clear title.

    What a cluster. :/

Somebody at the dealership just threw a bunch of papers in front of him and told him to sign. Pure incompetence on the part of the dealer. You might want to check to see if there are any refundable service plans or warranties that they sold him without his knowledge.

You might also ask the dealer for an explanation of how this happened.

I read where used car prices are starting to soften. Based on my local online search and walk around Car Max yesterday, I don't see it. Two examples, 2016 Q5 Premium Plus with 51k, $27600. 2019 Accord EXL with 45k, visible scratches, cheap tire replacements, $29.9k. We paid less for our 2016 Q5 Premium Plus w/tech with 26k mi on 7/21/19, 3 yrs ago!

The online guys may not be the best place to judge market softening. I was looking at some Nissan Frontiers on Carvana and many of the prices for even 5 year old units were over MSRP.

Maybe they paid too much gathering inventory and now can’t take a loss.

not the retail side maybe but the buy side (so the auctions) are not seeing as high prices.

Got back from our Universal/Disney trip last night. We had a ball. Keeping things car related, this was my first vacation where I didn’t rent a car or even drive & park at the airport. I took a car service to the airport, a bunch of Ubers and LYFT in Fl as well as a couple of other car services, then a Lyft home from the airport (LGA) yesterday.

Have the prices for Lyft gone up by much due to the higher petrol prices? A friend down south here said he was surprised how much they rose. Been a couple of years since I've used their services but they seemed pretty reasonable back then. Now? Just not to sure.

Took a tumble at work on Saturday, slipped in some slippery water, and went flying! My glasses flew off my head, my readers flew out of my shirt pocket, my cane flew in front of me and I fell on my knees and right upper arm. Bloodied my left knee in a couple of places but was able to keep my head from hitting the ground luckily. There was no way I could get up, so the two guys behind me who saw the whole "dance" came over and lifted me up. Walking was a bit difficult and Sunday morning I was really hurting and luckily, I wasn't working Sunday. N/S again today which was a good thing as my body was still hurting and needed to rest.
Not good when one gets older when we get hurt. Do notice my reflexes aren't as sharp as they used to be. But did feel old these last couple of days and it had me thinking about how much longer I'm going to continue to work? Working 3 days a week now but thinking of possibly going down to just 2 sometime next year. I know we have a few guys in their 80's working there but just not sure I'm going to want to be doing this for another 18 or so years. Will just have to play things by ear and see how the body holds up. Some mornings are better than others to be honest!

Funny you mention taking a spill. One of our guys who worked for the company in Florida for 5 years came in looking like 40 miles of bad road. Black eye, scrapes and bruises, you name it.

I once told an 80 something coworker that I didn’t know what I would be doing when I was 80 but it definitely wouldn’t be working. At that point I figure if I’m looking down at the dirt instead of up at it I’ll consider myself lucky.

    Get well soon.

Very nice! I really like that truck. And I agree, a sub 1% deal in 2022 is a heck of a good deal. I might shop for one of those myself if Ford keeps screwing around with their (non) production.

I suspect when the prices do start to fall, the places with a big inventory of used cars (Carmax, Carvana, Autonation) are going to be in a real squeeze. Should be interesting.

I had a similar experience back in 2018, well before the present madness. I had a 2017 F150, a little less than a year old, which I had picked up at a really tremendous price. I mean way the heck under invoice. So, at around 10 months old, and about 3k miles, it was worth more in trade than I had paid for it. That pricing was substantiated by Carmax. But it was a regular cab, and I wanted to go back to a crew cab, so it was time to "make a deal".

I'm at a Ford dealer, not the same one where I had purchased the 2017, negotiating on a new 2018. The salesman I'm dealing with is fairly nice, but the "closer" is being a real a__. That seemed to be the way that particular dealership worked, and he had already ticked me off. I showed him the buy offer from Carmax, and he came back with, "Why should we give you more than you paid for it?"

I thought about that for maybe 5 seconds, and asked him, "How do you know what I paid for it?" He got a blank look, and eventually came back with "I looked up the sales tax amount." Which was totally bogus, there was a trade involved, and I only paid sales tax on the difference. I told him that, in no uncertain terms, and I threw in a few expletives and some comments about his heritage and the horse he rode in on. I abhor liars.

Needless to say, I didn't buy a new truck there. I drove across town and bought a new truck the very same day from a different dealer. There are a lot of dealers out there, no excuse for putting up with a______.

I love when they pull that card. Basically telling me where they get their numbers from. So, in your case, my answer would have been “Oh, so we’re doing that. In that case, you pay me what I paid for mine and I’ll pay you what you paid for yours.”

I’ll always remember the Volvo dealer who decided they would use Blackbook to value my trade. So I said “no problem! Then I’ll use the same to value your car. Oh, look at that, the difference is the same as when I used Galves to value both vehicles. Funny how that works.” He showed me the door. Hahaha.

sunk cost at this point. they paid for inventory, and it is now worth what it is worth. Better to move it for something than have it sit there and depreciate more, not generating any cash flow. Then deduct the loss from their taxes!

Glad you had a great trip. I have come to like using the car services to get to the airport. I’m north of the ATL airport so I have no problem sitting back and letting them deal with traffic and parking anymore. I tend to go to remote areas in the region for business so I usually take a company car.

Wife is getting concerned about our upcoming trip so I had to book a Wagoneer through Turo. Not TOO bad given the current prices. Total came to $1823 for 2 weeks. If the Sprinter appears, I can cancel with no charge up until the day before we pick it up on 8/18.

Wife is getting concerned about our upcoming trip so I had to book a Wagoneer through Turo. Not TOO bad given the current prices. Total came to $1823 for 2 weeks. If the Sprinter appears, I can cancel with no charge up until the day before we pick it up on 8/18.

Yep, me too but this time we’re flying down this Saturday around 3PM. Son #1 is driving down this Friday and will be there to pick us up when we get there. Would have gone with my Son as usual but he no longer has a van so we can’t all fit in his pickup. I’m damn sure not riding in the bed with the luggage and beach gear. :#

I’m going to feel like a guest not having to be in a car 10 hours each way. This must be how the other half does it.

Probably going in sometime this week to sign more paperwork. Thought we had already done that! Will hopefully be talking it over with my "Chevy kids" tonight but think they'll be all for it. Still liking the ice blue color the best so far as I've already done a silver & white before. Like the red but not enough to pay the extra cost for it and black over black leather here in South Florida just ain't gonna cut it. Truly wish that there was one light color offering but like Ford's of old, any color available is black. I already have a cover on my seat back and a cushion for the seat so I'll just move those over.
Was in their sister store this morning but alas, no Bolt's in the showroom for me to sit in. And since I've never driven one, I just hope I'm gonna like it once it comes in. Assuming it'll drive similarly to the Tesla I drove months ago and think it's something I'll get used to very quickly. Also assuming the increase charge in our electric bill won't be that much as I won't have to charge it every night since I'm lucky if I drive more than 12 miles on an average day. With work being under 4 miles away and the supermarket on the way, really don't drive more than 50 miles each week, if that much. And to be honest, think when the wife learns & gets used to driving one, she'll want it for her own since she drives to Ft. Lauderdale a couple days a week depending on which office she's going to. Really think she'll like it a lot once she gets over the fear of it dropping like a rock once one takes their foot off the accelerator. She'll have to learn how to feather the gas pedal to get the proper driving dynamics she wants. And she's pretty smart, only took me a few minutes to figure it out so she'll be just fine. Since she hates pumping petrol, this ought to be a no-brainer for her. Plug-in and done is about as easy as it gets!
But, plan is still to put a down payment on one hopefully to take possession of in mid 2023 or possibly get a 2024 model later next year.

No it has red/orange stitching and pattern. Here is a better picture

I'm firmly in the "stitching doesn't make a black interior a different color" camp.

There might be some slightly non-black bits in that fabric but even blowing up the pic it still reads as black to me. I can't understand why car manufacturers are allergic to color in interiors.

That sounds about the same (on a daily basis) as we paid for the rental in Washington a couple months ago.

odd. My monitor must produce a very different pic. I'm very clearly seeing reddish/brownish/orangeish inserts in those seats. The black are just lines. So the inserts are like 80% non-black.

I see it too and in videos it is even more pronounced. What I was agreeing with is the overall lack of color in today’s interiors as a rule.

The only reason I went with this black interior was due to the orange/red highlights. When I get it I’ll take some good pics in the sunlight to show it off better. There aren’t many good pictures on the web of this package.

This video shows it off a little bit. Same truck and package but the other exterior color they offer.

I forgot to mention that my Son is taking our luggage. We’re flying with Spirit Airlines and they are a bare bones airline and are getting very petty with luggage fees and the size of carry on bags. They even want you to buy seats for a few bucks to scare you into sitting with whoever you’re flying with otherwise you could be sitting separated.

I hate to say this because I don’t want to jinx myself but I have flown with Spirit countless times to visit my Delray Beach widowed SIL and never had a problem. They seem to be getting desperate lately with all their petty fees, though.

I'm pretty sure that Spirit ranks as the worst US based airline. I wish you luck, though. Frontier was trying to buy them, but that might have fallen apart. Frontier might be the 2nd worst airline (but, we flew on them to RSW in April).

@kyfdx nailed it. Spirit is often what you get stuck with if you don't book with a better carrier before its flight fills up.

Spirit has had a bad rep for quite sometime but I’ve never had a problem with them and a big plus is that I don’t have to fly out of Greater Pittsburgh airport. I can take Spirit from Latrobe PA which is better for me and I don’t have pay for parking at Latrobe. Sooner or later I’m bound to have a problem but I’ve had those with the big name brand airlines too. If I have a problem I’ll post it here so everyone can say, “I told you”.

Let me wish you all the best with your new purchase. If it wasn’t a Chrysler product you’d be the envy of this site. My Son could have gotten a RAM much less than the GMC he got last year so he asked his indy shop what he thought of a used RAM with the mileage it had on it. The guy said, “they have a great interior but you’ll be living in here if you buy that one after another 10K miles”. But for you it’s a lease, with a warranty. My Son was thinking long term without a warranty.

I can very occasionally see something in the video where the seat fabric doesn’t look pure black/gray but not consistently. It mostly looks like black/gray cloth that has some dust on it to me. Not any color I could ID. Maybe it is one of those shades I’m colorblind to.
