I have to agree, it's worth 12k plus under any normal circumstances.

Ahhh -- garage door opener, that's another thing missing on my new Silverado. Not a big deal by any means, I have a little remote to clip on the passenger side visor. But I did rather expect to find one. And I have spent a bit of time myself programming those things. Never on my own cars, those have all been easy, but helping out friends and families.

And speaking of openers, I finally got around to installing a keyless deadbolt lock on my front door. Amazon put one on sale for $49, so I took advantage of that. Came with good instructions, and only took about 10 minutes to install as I was lucky enough that everything fit. Very handy, I definitely should have done this years ago.

And I think my next upgrade will be a keypad for opening the garage door. That would also be handy to have.

Inside my garage, near the outside keypad, I also have a button (like a door bell button) that operates the door. One push - no code. You would be surprised how many times I use it. Just keep your feet out of the way.

Q, I was wondering if you might get lucky this time with a buyer flaking. Still a chance.

I wonder how many auctions there don't actually go through. 1%? 5%?

I don't think I would use that very often. Hard to say, without actually having it available. If I'm closing the garage, from inside, I'm usually going to go through the door into the house, and I already have a button right next to that door.

That's the cheapest full-sized 4-door they've had on BaT since 2020, and this is the cream of the crop in condition and spec.
SIGH. Well, I didn't LOSE money, so I guess it is what it is.
Now what remains to be seen is if he'll go through with it. He tells me he is in CA. Will they even allow him to have it over there?? So y'all who just said "heck, I'd buy it for that," I'll hold ya to it. Oh, and his price was just over $9k with the fee. I'll round it down to an even $9k for you.

Just keep me posted. As long as you don't mind waiting until this summer to finish up the details (like getting it out of the driveway!). :p

I think we'll be flying the kids down to Pittsburgh instead of all of us driving this summer, so I could probably manage some sort of arrangement to get them closer your way, then they could just drive it back from there. Simple.

Only upside is that it will be one less in the driveway for the wife to complain about.

In other news, I put new, larger shoes on the Wagon R today. Quite a bit larger (175/65r14 vs stock 155/55r14). They JUST fit inside the fenders, and only slight rubbing on full lock. They definitely slowed the acceleration, but at least now it isn't screaming at 50mph.

I have a button like that.... it usually works for me just fine, but it won't operate for my wife at all. It's a great source of entertainment for me, because I'll see her over there carefully pushing it over and over again trying to get it to work. Then, I'll casually drift by, bump it, and the opener engages. It drives her crazy. LOL

I don't think I've told my garage door opener saga, but the one in my detached garage ground its plastic gears to bits a few years ago. They sell kits to replace the gears, but it looked like a pain, and I didn't know how old the opener was nor how much other abuse it had taken, since it came with the house. I went to Lowe's and bought the cheapest Liftmaster they had, because it looked like it had all of the features I needed. Their contractor came and installed it, which went fine.

Well, it didn't have Homelink. So that was a $50 kit and a module that takes up an outlet in the garage. It also didn't have Lear Car2U, which is or was used in GM vehicles, and I think I discovered that when I bought the Tahoe. Another $50 kit and another module taking up an outlet. And then I had to get a new keypad and a spare remote. Lesson learned, I would have been better off buying one of the models with more features that had built-in Homelink, extra remotes, a keypad, etc.

I have old fashioned deadbolt locks and a spare key hidden in one of those combination locks that realtors used before they came out with the electronic Sentry door hanger things. It's in a location where it's not visible even if you walked the entire perimeter of the house and garage.

No battery in these. It is hardwired using 2-conductor low voltage cable to the GDO. It looks like an oversized doorbell button. When you push the button it completes a circuit and the door goes up or down. First troubleshooting task is to touch the wires at the button together and see if the door reacts.

My bad. I thought you were talking about an outside key pad.

Yep, touch the wires together where the button is. Make sure the screws are tight and you don’t have corrosion. You can short out the 2 screws on the door bell button with a screw driver to do this without removing the wires. If that doesn’t work short out the connections on the opener itself and see if that works. If it does you have a broken wire. If that doesn’t work pull the plug for a minute and see if it resets. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt to yank the plug first.

    Good luck.

Every garage door opener that I have ever seen has one of those wired buttons. They're just usually installed right next to the door from the garage into the house. Which is most convenient when you're coming or going.

Damn, if you bought another car that wasn’t compatible with your garage door opener you might have had to upgrade your electrical panel to handle more receptacles. :'(

From what I've seen of body shops, it's a bit of a scam that cars can be fixed right. I say all quality cars should be totaled out if more than one body panel is affected.

I like that Lexus though a bit too big for our purposes. Remember growing up in northern Westchester that there weren't that many dealers near us. My mom did buy her folks that '67 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme which I ended up with in Ossining but most of our leases & purchases were out of White Plains or New Rochelle. Living in Southern Florida, we have a dozen dealers within 2 miles of our house, heck, or Audi store is inside of our development which is super convenient. The Hyundai/Mazda/Chevy dealer is right across the street and the VW store is just past there. Unfortunately, the Honda, Nissan, Buick & Kia stores are on the other side of town but still, only like 15 minutes away. Hoping to get the Hyundai next year so won't have to drive far for service.

Our outside key pad finally gave up the ghost last year so we had a new one installed. Like not having to use the front door to be honest though I still keep a house key on each key chain just in case the power goes out as when that happens, our Genie garage opener is inoperative until I unplug the plug & re-insert it. Crazy if you ask me and none of our Sears units ever had this happen to them. When I asked the folks at Genie why this is happening, no one could answer me which I found very strange. Obviously it must be a built in safety hazard or something but still, very confusing & frustrating as I have to pull the ladder out & climb it to get to the power plug.

On another note, our pharmacist daughter has informed us that she's planning on moving to the Orlando area within the next two years, wants to be working there sometime in 2025. Has decided not to purchase a property here in South Florida which was her original plan. Not surprised with this plan as she wants to live closer to her sister & brother-in-law. So, looks like we'll be moving to Central Florida when she does or soon after. Have no reason to stay down in this area if both girls are living in the center of the state. After living here so long, moved down in October of 1969, will be very strange to pick up & move to a whole new area. I knew she was thinking about this but figured she'd against that & put down permanent roots here. Moving is not something I look forward to as I've accumulated a lot of "stuff" over these past 36 years & have a lot of purging to do. Just not something I'm looking forward to...I'm a bit of a saver of things so this purging will be hard! But, it's probably something that's long overdue!

that is gorgeous. Almost perfect. No backup camera (or parking sensors), but it does have a CD player! Guess just need to keep the top down at all times.
How do you know about the backup camera? Because I can't imagine a 2015 BMW without that.

It's gorgeous, though. We had a 2011 model for a month.

I have been in this house for 12 years now, and I have accumulated far too much junk. But on the other hand, I'm not planning on moving. I couldn't possibly live anywhere else as cheaply as I'm living here. No mortgage, unbelievably low property taxes, just basically pay the utilities.

Interesting article on an issue with electric car batteries and insurers. Tesla doesn't come off so well here:

    https://www.autonews.com/automakers-suppliers/ev-battery-damage-might-force-insurers-write-entire-car

From what I've seen of body shops, it's a bit of a scam that cars can be fixed right. I say all quality cars should be totaled out if more than one body panel is affected.
Only if you're willing to pay triple on your insurance premiums, I'd bet.
I have heard of Tesla's sky-high insurance premiums. So high in fact, that Elon Musk and Tesla started their own Tesla insurance company to insure Tesla's more reasonably.

Sandy, having just gone through it, the purge to move feels really good once it is all over, and you have a nice new place with a lot less stuff. Especially for me, since, well, 95% of it wasn't "my" stuff.

get a dumpster and start pitching. But start now instead of waiting until the end. and get the kids to come down and do the heavy labor.

I’ve been in the same house for 40 years. Back around 2008 we wanted to sell and move to Florida but the developers kept low balling us. Now we’re just fixing the place up so the kids have a nice place to live in or sell.

Yesterday, as we were sitting down with a bathroom renovator there was a knock at the door. It was a real estate agent wondering if we were still interested in selling. What a coincidence.

Pretty much the same story with me. I do need to undertake a purge though. That hit home last week when I hired a crew to rip out the old wall to wall carpeting in the LR, DR and MBR which I understood dated to the early ‘70s. It was still presentable but I knew there was hardwood underneath though I had no idea of its condition. The amount of stuff the crew had to move and replace surprised even me. There is even more in other rooms they didn’t go near and down in the basement.

As for the floors, they are 1950s maple. In the LR/DR they are gorgeous and just about perfect. In my bedroom they are almost as nice where the original occupants had a 9x12 rug in the center, but for some reason they put gloss varnish or poly around the perimeter and it doesn’t look quite so good. I think that might be fixable though. The only downside is that I suspect the original finish is amber shellac with wax over it, so I don’t know how long they will stay looking the way they do.
